CSE UNITED FC - PRE SEASON NEWS

Here we go then ...

The players arrived at the club's top quality training facilities ready to begin their preparations for the upcoming season as they met the new manager, Paolo Di Canio, and his backroom team who all followed him from his previous club, Swindon Town. The Forumites have been predicted by the media to be heading for bottom place in League 2 despite their potential stars and many are speculating that Di Canio may well opt to bring in some experience on loan to boost his options for the start of the season. With friendlies at Eastleigh and Bedford and at home to Bury, Kidderminster and Millwall to come, United will be hoping for a positive start ahead of their first league match on August 6th when they welcome AFC Wimbledon to The Forum, the 10000 seater home of CSE, looking for a good start.

July 6:

In pre-season training, central defender Dench Frimpong suffers a setback as he strains his calf. Although he will miss just three weeks and should be available for the opener with AFC Wimbledon, the injury is set to hamper his progress as he seeks to earn a place in the starting line-up.

July 9:

As expected, manager Paolo Di Canio does look to bring in more experience and makes his first signing, former Barnsley striker Jamil Adam on a free transfer. The 20-year old Irish striker has only played 4 times for the Tykes though, 0 goals, and Di Canio may be looking for more signings ahead of the new season. CSE United also travelled to Eastleigh tonight for their first pre-season friendly and the club's first match. After a disastrous start when Eastleigh took the lead on 4 minutes, the honour of scoring CSE's first goal fell to Jake Stothard as he levelled on 34 minutes. American striker and man of the match Mike Nevo put CSE in front on 43 minutes but Eastleigh levelled before half time. In the second half, Geraint Alacarde, the Belgian striker, put CSE back in front with what turned out to be the winning goal. However, Yaqub Al-Billionairy picked up a second yellow card late on and was sent off to put a dampener on the first CSE United win. United dominated the possession and had far more shots than their hosts but just 4 shots on target from 17 suggests that some shooting practice is needed ahead of the new season. Eastleigh 2-3 CSE United

July 11:

The second pre-season friendly as League 1 side Bury travelled to The Forum for the opening of the new stadium in front of 2172 people.

TheForum.jpg

The contest was even with both sides having plenty of efforts on goal and Di Canio will be pleased with CSE dominating possession again, 66% of the ball with the new League 2 side. However, Shaun Harrad showed the League 1 sides quality as he hit two first half goals that sunk CSE. Mike Nevo scored late on with his second goal in two games to give United hope but the game ended in a 2-1 defeat despite the promise shown. CSE United 1-2 Bury

July 17:

Season ticket sales for the upcoming League 2 season top 3300 with the club expecting to sell another 700 to take the number of season ticket holders close to 4000. A good effort for a new League 2 club.

July 18:

A trip to non-league Bedford for the third of five pre-season friendlies and a convincing win for CSE as they finally found their shooting boots. With 70% of the possession this time out, Marcus van der Cook put United in front on 34 minutes before Mike Nevo made it 2-0 just before half time, 3 in 3 for the American forward already. Bastian Schweinstiga made it 3-0 early in the second half before Di Canio's new signing, Jamil Adam hit a brace late on to leave United 5-0 winners and looking good ahead of home friendlies with Kidderminster and Millwall in the coming days.

Profile screenshots will come at the end of pre-season. Competitive games will have more detail and line-ups included but pre-season is just a quick recap. Hope you've enjoyed the first half of pre-season and I'll get the second part up ASAP. GCB

Looks like i'm doing an amazing job for CSE :D Great updates KUTGW :)
Woo a goal vs Bedford. KUTGW.
Oooh, not bad, scored a winner.. =)

In terms of us all understanding who is who, make sure you include your player's name somewhere in the posts. Then we know who you're talking about.

Like the stadium.. By the way how big is the squad with the new signings?

The only signing is Jamil Adam which leaves us with 19 players. I set the budgets low to ensure the created players would get game time.

Who started those friendlies keeper wise, i know we probably had a half each, hoping to have a solid pre season and hope my hero di canio will make me first choice

I'll go into more detail with the pre-season stats later so you can see that. For now, I just wanted to get pre-season out of the way with a quick snippet of news.

Trust Yaqub Al-Billionairy to get the first red card for the team...

Yeah, not good! Not sure yet if he will be suspended for the first game of the season. It isn't showing up yet but I guess there is still time. He is also the first to be called up to his country's squad though.

CSE UNITED FC - PRE SEASON NEWS

July 21:

Experienced - and some might say pint-sized - right winger, Chris Shuker, a former Barnsley and Tranmere Rovers player, signs for CSE United. The 29 year old becomes the second signing since Paolo Di Canio's arrival at the club and increases the squad to 20 players as the end of pre-season comes into sight. In the fourth pre-season friendly, a home game against Conference side Kidderminster Harrers, goals from Austin Hodge and a hat-trick from that man (again), Mike Nevo, ensure a 4-0 win for the Forumites in a game that they completely dominate from beginning to end. With just one remaining friendly at home to Championship Millwall, Paolo Di Canio will be hoping for a strong finish to pre-season ahead of the season opener against AFC Wimbledon on August 6.

July 23:

CSE United's squad numbers for the upcoming season are announced - question is whether or not the numbers give us any clues over Di Canio's preferred starting line up for the season? The numbers are as follows: 1. Edoardo Lorenzo; 2. Omar Brown; 4. Kalju Valjas; 5. Dench Frimpong; 6. Austin Hodge; 7. Elliott van Barthold; 8. Charles Beams; 9. Marcus van der Cook; 10. Mike Nevo; 12. Jamil Adam; 13. Matt Swain; 14. Chris Shuker; 15. Jake Stothard; 16. Josh Wilson; 17. Yaqub Al-Billionairy; 18. Geraint Alacarde; 19. Tin Tin Tin; 20. Draco Longbottom. As yet, Seamus O'Bowman and Bastian Schweinstiga have yet to be assigned a squad number and find themselves currently waiting in the reserve squad. Yaqub Al-Billionairy, despite his red card for CSE in the opening friendly, makes his international debut for Qatar in a 3-0 win over Lebanon.

July 24:

4000 season tickets have now been sold ahead of the first ever season for CSE United in their home, The Forum. The club expect to sell another 100 before the AFC Wimbledon game.

July 27:

A goal from Marcus van der Cook is enough for the League 2 side to cause a shock in their final pre-season game as they defeat Championship Millwall by 1-0 at The Forum. In an even, tight game, Van Der Cook manages to score the only goal with 17 minutes remaining to give CSE United a major boost heading into the first game of the League 2 season next week.

July 29:

Millwall will not have to wait long for a chance to gain revenge on CSE United for their pre-season loss as the two sides are paired against each other in the League Cup. The Lions, who lost 1-0 to CSE only two days ago, will again travel to The Forum hoping that a competitive match will inspire their players to show their quality and secure a place in Round 2. The FA also inform CSE United that goalkeeper Edoardo Lorenzo is suspended for their League 2 opener after a youth team red card at the end of last season.* This will give Matt Swain first chance to secure his place in the starting line-up as he will be the only available goalkeeper for the first two games of the season.

August 5:

In his pre-match press conference, CSE United manager Paolo Di Canio says he is looking forward to starting the League 2 campaign tomorrow. He declares that CSE are fully prepared and that he is confident of a win but refused to say what scoreline he expected. When asked about his preferred line up, Di Canio said that he wanted a good performance tomorrow and refused to be drawn on his team. He also told the BBC that the League Cup draw against Millwall would be a challenge but one he believed his side could win. Di Canio refused to comment on his team's chances this season but did predict Burton Albion to struggle this season whilst naming Swindon Town as his pick for the League 2 title - makes you wonder why he left them in the first place!

Pre-season is over, here are the stats:

* Obviously, I made that up. Lorenzo's base player must have had a two game suspension hanging over him at the start of the game. GCB
