Yes that would be fine.

Definitely get better thermal paste. And i think a dedicated graphics card if playing matches in 3d.

Otherwise its pretty good on paper. Sorry not at laptop (on mobile) cant check out mobo and power supply till i get to my laptop later today.

@Smurf thank you for the feedback, it is very much appreciated. As you can tell from the spec, I am not after a high end gaming machine, purely something that can multi-task (playing music and browsing the internet) whilst playing FM to a decent level. I've read the integrated card is to a decent level and should hopefully suffice, I could always install a graphics card at a later date. I'll upgrade on the thermal paste  Hopefully the 350w power supply is sufficient for all of this, there is room to upgrade to a better one if need be. I'm still undecided whether to spend more on the motherboard or if it really is needed.

Which one would be better? In terms of price, are they probably the best I can expect? Would only play English leagues on large database.

Personally, I'd go for better processor one as the graphics card is plenty for FM.

Not really sure if you should spend more on the mobo.

Hello all,

Budget: £600 (willing to go a little bit over, but not if it's unnecessary).

So I've had my current laptop for 4 years now and it's time for a change. It's had a good run, but it's only got an i3 processor and I've been having some problems with it (mostly running videos smoothly). I was looking to buy a new one in the Black Friday sales. Problem is, at this moment there don't seem to be good deals (at least in UK stores/online retailers). I might just go with one that isn't on sale.

I mainly use my laptop for watching videos, Netflix etc., as well as playing Football Manager obviously.  I would preferably like an i7 or i5 processor. I'd like to ask also if there's a massive difference between the two processors, so much so that you would recommend I pay more money for an i7. I've been told (I'm not that good when it comes to laptop specs) that I'd be best off with SSD rather than HDD. However, I'm slightly put off by the fact that I can only get 256 GB SSD (although, tbf, I've only used around 83 GB on this laptop in 4 years). This posits a question which I would appreciate if somebody could answer: is 256 GB SSD better than 1 TB HDD (I know it's a vague question, but I mean in terms of general performance and for an FM player). A combination of both would be great. However, I know this might not be possible within my budget. I would also preferably like 8 GB RAM. I am willing to compromise either on one of the specs or the price a little bit.

These are the ones I've found as potential suitors:

https://ao.com/product/5ku43eaabu-hp-laptop-silver-62678-251.aspx

Let me know if you can find anything better, or whether I should wait until Black Friday itself to see if there are any better deals. As stated, my budget is £600. I am willing to go a little above it (maybe £650 at a push).

Cheers.

Hi Smurf,

Been browsing this and the previous thread for the past year or so due to needing a new laptop for FM 19. No clue on specs etc etc but looking for speed rather than watching 3d. Budget of £800 give or take.

Thanks in advance, Scott

256gb is ok - you could probably add another drive at another stage, or get external storage.

First on the list of decent quality in price ascending order

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.GP8EK.003-Acer-Aspire-7-A715-71G-57YT_2156569.html

Next on the list - and only difference being storage/weight/battery life

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J962-2073-MSI-GL62M-7RDX-2073UK_2245212.html

Another one - except the battery life is a lot longer

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/1RJ98EAABU-HP-OMEN-15-ce001na_2147420.html

And another with the battery life being different

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J962-1869-MSI-GL62M-7REX-1869UK_2191608.html

And yet another one

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J942-079-MSI-GP62-7RD(Leopard)-079UK_2068374.html

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.GP8EK.006-Acer-Aspire-7-A715-71G-50WU_2177979.html

Of all the above, I suppose more storage and a better battery life would be better, I suppose (by battery life I mean how long the battery lasts when not plugged in) Price varies a lot - so you could go the cheapest one and get a good deal for the same laptop.

They are all exactly the same specs, except storage/battery/weight.

This now has a better graphics card
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/FX503VM-EN184T-ASUS-FX503VM-EN184T_2315679.html

Better processor - slightly lesser graphics card
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/FX504GD-DM346T-ASUS-FX504GD-DM346T-Gaming-Laptop_2387834.html

This has the best specs but it's an extra 100 - which I would personally go for

https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/FX504GM-EN151T-ASUS-FX504GM-EN151T-Gaming-Laptop_2344468.html

If it was me - I'd look at this seriously in the 800 range
https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16R112-255-MSI-GF63-8RC-255UK_2410406.html

There's a lot out there with very similar specs - I guess you need to weigh up if the battery life (are you going to be plugged in most of the time or is it for travel) and if it's for travel would the weight be ok?

Hope that helps.

The extra 100 is for a 1060 6gb - and the i5-8300h would be perfectly fine for FM.

And I think it's worth going for the 1060 for an extra 100.

Is it necessary? Absolutely not.

The i7 is a better processor, and the 1050ti 4gb is perfectly fine for FM.

It's really up to you if you want to spend the extra 100 quid and have a better graphics card

Or pay the 800 you wanted to spend and get a slightly better processor, and a slightly lesser graphics card

It'll run FM, but for the cost, you can get a much better laptop that can play AAA games too.

I think it comes with an underpowered cpu and an overpowered graphics card that don't play well with each other.

Upgrading my PC soon and wondered what's the best processor to run FM and future FM's?

AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

Intel core i9-9900K

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2920X

Obvously the 2700X is about half the price but wondered which CPU maybe more future proof.

As per opening post - you can find a list of the processors ranked here - the higher the better

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html

If you're looking for the best processor for FM - at the moment it's the 9900k - as it's the best single thread performance and FM is still largely geared to single threads.

Futureproofing-wise - they are all high end and would be pretty much great for a long while.

Hi, I was looking at the below laptop. Just wondering how well this would run FM. Or if there any laptops around a similar price that would run it better.

I'd actually go with this one, which is actually £5 cheaper.

The processor is similar - it has a much higher base speed, but slightly (but not noticeably) slower boost speed, with a better graphics card, just as much RAM, a bigger screen, and a 1TB Hard drive as well as the SSD to boot off.

Any reason for a 13.3 inch laptop? Circa £1,000 budget would get you much more in a 15 inch.

I built the same computer for £1300+

The thing with PC Specialist is you can choose the extra thermal paste, extra cooling options etc. It's a bit more.

PC Specialist is custom built and won't come with bloatware.

If you want you can get on to PC specialist and see if they can do the build for roughly the same price.

The currys one is absolutely plenty - so no reason to not to either if you want to save money.

And the one you configured on PC specialist - I would go for - except change the SSD to be the M2 drive and have the 2tb as the 1st drive.

All way overkill for FM.

The currys one is absolutely plenty - so no reason to not to either if you want to save money.

And the one you configured on PC specialist - I would go for - except change the SSD to be the M2 drive and have the 2tb as the 1st drive.

All way overkill for FM.

I'll be using it for other things other than playing FM such as basic video editing, watching films, office work and I've got a big iTunes library. I'm concerned about future proofing more than anything to be honest as I probably won't be able to upgrade. That is why I'm thinking of getting a desktop for the first time in over a decade as it would be easier and cheaper to upgrade little bits in 5-7 years if I need to. Budget is £1,500-1,700.

I can't beat that one on currys. It's pretty good.

Only really use my laptop for FM so not looking to spend a ton of money on one, saw this and wondered if it'd run the top 5 leagues okay? My current laptop is about 5 years old so a bit outdated.

For that price pretty good. Take heed of the opening post of this thread though.

Both would be perfectly fine for FM.

But I'd be seriously tempted with the 1060 graphics card.

I had to look hard for it, but it's the 1060 6gb model, much better than the 3gb variant.

If FM is the most intensive thing you use then the cheaper one is fine. The i5 vs the i7 are similar enough except for amount of cores. And FM is still mostly single core, meaning adding more cores doesn't really make much of a difference for fm.

There's a site for comparing the single core performance for FM

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

As you can see there's little difference in the i7 8750H and the i5 8300H

1574152575_singlecoreref.thumb.PNG.4d869fdbd89f66d8ddeeeabe7b71219f.PNG

If you wanted to save a few quid - then the cheaper one is perfectly fine.

However, again, I'd be mighty tempted by the 1060 6gb graphics card!

Dilemma or what!

How big of a difference would a 6GB vs. 3GB GTX 1060 card be in terms of FM 3D match performance?

FM is one of the only games I play, and I'm trying to "future proof" my purchase as much as possible.  I will also do some web browsing, watching of videos, and maybe some sporadic video conversions.

Other specs for the laptop are either an i5-8300H or i7-8750H (not much of a difference for FM), 16GB of RAM, and an SSD for the OS and FM installation, with a larger HDD for other files (including FM add-ons).

Thank you.

could you please recommend the best laptop you have found within a budget of 500-640 in terms of running leagues.

I have recently got a refund on a Medion Erazer due to it being faulty so that's the only brand id avoid.

Not really bothered about 3D graphics, essentially as long as it works smoothly it's fine, if every player is white and blonde or something then so be it.

However i'd expect if i'm paying 600 the graphics will be decent enough for a game like FM anyway? I enjoy running a lower league database and know this can kill a computer if the processor can't handle it - Thanks

I’m building a Windows 10 desktop pc and plan on buying a 32 inch monitor with a resolution of 2560x1440 (aka WQHD or 1440p or 2k) and will have a graphics card sufficient to power it.

My question is, does anybody know if I play FM2019 on it will I have any problems, such as text too small to read, blurry text/video, other scaling issues, or anything else I should be aware of?  As I recall, 1080p is the game’s maximum resolution.  I’ve read differing things about running 1080p applications with Windows on higher resolution monitors.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Not a huge difference in the 1060 3gb vs 6gb - about 10% gain for 30% extra in price.

In the future you may need to set anti-aliasing to a lower setting, is it worth it, I'd say the 6gb is worth it for future proofing. But it's not a massive deal.

The last one - but no surpise as it's over £100 more than budget.

Failing that - the middle one.

An gtx 1060 6gb and either:

Samsung 32” WQHD LED Monitor (S32D850T)

or

Philips 328B6QJEB 32” LCD Monitor, IPS Panel, 2560 x1440

I’m after a new laptop for family use but also good enough to play fm. I’m at a loss with all this processor, ram and hard drive talk. I’ve seen a few laptops suggested on here and a bit over my budget of around £400. I’m used to having Acer Aspire laptops. Are there any that someone could recommend please?
