  1. Ignore this. I decided to go with the Dell in the end for the SSD.
  2. Apologies, I'm back. So I bought this laptop from Currys today: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-nitro-5-15-6-intel-core-i5-gtx-1050-gaming-laptop-1-tb-black-10180720-pdt.html I'm just wondering if you think it's worth exchanging it for this one and paying an extra £70 just for SSD: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/dell-g3-15-15-6-intel-core-i5-gtx-1050-gaming-laptop-256-gb-ssd-black-10182913-pdt.html?store=2318&&istCompanyId=bec25c7e-cbcd-460d-81d5-a25372d2e3d7&istItemId=-xixiqtlxpt&istBid=t&srcid=198&cmpid=ppc~gg~0073 (PLA) Black Tag 18 - PC Gaming Hardware~0073 (PLA) Black Tag 18 - PC Gaming Hardware ad group~Exact&mctag=gg_goog_7904&kwid=GOOGLE&device=m&ds_kids=92700038736316395&tgtid=0073 (PLA) Black Tag 18 - PC Gaming Hardware&&gclid=CjwKCAiA0O7fBRASEiwAYI9QAnvWtmXGzyXi-onRSAQacmIX1hvOflvi2u-AtCpOxgdc-HrHvgrx_RoCCyQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds I was told by Currys that I can't upgrade to SSD under warranty (although this is only 1 year, so I could probably upgrade after this time anyway). I know SSD isn't that important for FM but just wondering if it's worth it for all around performance. I do seem to prefer the Acer overall. Sounds awful but one of the main reasons is the red colour (which is important to me as a Liverpool fan).
  3. I've just reserved the Currys one, going to pick it up in store tomorrow. I'd just like to thank you for all your help, Smurf. Maybe I'll see you again in a few years when I'll need new advice. Hopefully that will be later rather than sooner.
  4. Hiya Smurf, Apologies but I'm back. I was so close to getting the laptop you recommended: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-nitro-5-15-6-intel-core-i5-gtx-1050-gaming-laptop-1-tb-black-10180720-pdt.html Then came across this: https://ao.com/product/1tt86eaabu-hp-laptop-black-62626-251.aspx It's £599.00 with the £50 discount. I'm wondering what you think of this one and how it compares to the Acer one. It has an SSD which I would prefer because FM is the only game that I really play (not sure if this means SSD or HDD would be better for me). Apart from FM I mainly use it to watch YouTube/Netflix. Also, I currently have an HP Pavilion laptop which has lasted me over 4 years so far (although started to deteriorate after a couple of years). The Acer one would be perfect for me if it had an SSD. I suppose I could always get an SSD in addition but I'm just a bit concerned over how much this will cost me to firstly buy it then secondly I'd probably have to pay for a technician to install it. Not really sure how the graphics card etc compares as I'm not much of a techy. Cheers!
  5. Hiya Smurf, Apologies but I'm back. I promise this will be my last post. https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/1RJ98EAABU-HP-OMEN-15-ce001na_2147420.html What are your thoughts on the above laptop? How would you rank it amongst these: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-nitro-5-15-6-intel-core-i5-gtx-1050-gaming-laptop-1-tb-black-10180720-pdt.html#srcid=11026 https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J962-2073-MSI-GL62M-7RDX-2073UK_2245212.html?fbclid=IwAR1W0rva1Wswic2HJjXN9vtbNdEK6nnruDvFz7NfLOsuEICpNY8834z-srk
  6. Hiya Smurf, Apologies - I've already commented on this and I really appreciate your advice. I popped into Curry's after work today to see if they have any decent deals - it doesn't look like they do tbf. My budget is £600, although I am willing to go a bit over it. These are the ones I've found: https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/NX.GP8EK.003-Acer-Aspire-7-A715-71G-57YT_2156569.html https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J962-2073-MSI-GL62M-7RDX-2073UK_2245212.html https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-nitro-5-15-6-intel-core-i5-gtx-1050-gaming-laptop-1-tb-black-10180720-pdt.html#srcid=11026 https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/dell-inspiron-15-3000-15-6-intel-core-i5-laptop-256-gb-ssd-black-10186254-pdt.html#srcid=11026 https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/dell-inspiron-15-5000-15-6-intel-core-i5-laptop-2-tb-hdd-silver-10181483-pdt.html#srcid=11026 https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-ideapad-330-15ikb-15-6-intel-core-i5-laptop-1-tb-hdd-grey-10185216-pdt.html#srcid=11026 You told me previously it should be between the first 2. The thing is, I had an Acer before which only lasted 3 years (although tbf this was probably due to poor maintenance). In terms of MSI I have heard mixed reviews about them. Moreover, I'm always quite sceptical about buying from online retailers as I'm unsure on their warranty and procedure for if e.g. I have some hardware problems that I can't fix. So a few questions I hope you don't mind answering: 1. Which of the above laptops are the best value for money? 2. What is better - an i5HQ processor or i7U processor? 3. Is it worth getting a gaming laptop even though I will probably only be playing Football Manager? 4. If I were to get a laptop with just SSD (like the Acer Aspire 7 one), how easy would it be to buy an HDD later on if/when I need it and use that as well? 5. What is faster in general - SSD or SSD and HDD? P.S. I've recently found this one: https://www.ebuyer.com/862353-msi-gp62m-7rd-leopard-gaming-laptop-9s7-16j972-425?wgu=267255_56573_15429252100427_525647820c&wgexpiry=1550701210&utm_source=webgains&utm_siteid=56573 It's a bit out of budget, I'm not sure if I'm willing to spend £700 on a laptop. In my experience the ones that I've owned have only lasted for 3-4 years. I'm just quite sceptical when it comes to spending so much. Is this worth the extra £50 for an i7 processor and 16 GB RAM?
  7. Thanks a lot man. Would you recommend that over the MSI one? I'm just a bit sceptical over only having 256 GB (although as I said I've only used around 83 GB on my current one). Also I'm not sure what MSI laptops are like. I'm not big into tech and I hadn't heard of them before hunting for a new laptop. Thanks again.
  8. Hello all, Budget: £600 (willing to go a little bit over, but not if it's unnecessary). So I've had my current laptop for 4 years now and it's time for a change. It's had a good run, but it's only got an i3 processor and I've been having some problems with it (mostly running videos smoothly). I was looking to buy a new one in the Black Friday sales. Problem is, at this moment there don't seem to be good deals (at least in UK stores/online retailers). I might just go with one that isn't on sale. I mainly use my laptop for watching videos, Netflix etc., as well as playing Football Manager obviously. I would preferably like an i7 or i5 processor. I'd like to ask also if there's a massive difference between the two processors, so much so that you would recommend I pay more money for an i7. I've been told (I'm not that good when it comes to laptop specs) that I'd be best off with SSD rather than HDD. However, I'm slightly put off by the fact that I can only get 256 GB SSD (although, tbf, I've only used around 83 GB on this laptop in 4 years). This posits a question which I would appreciate if somebody could answer: is 256 GB SSD better than 1 TB HDD (I know it's a vague question, but I mean in terms of general performance and for an FM player). A combination of both would be great. However, I know this might not be possible within my budget. I would also preferably like 8 GB RAM. I am willing to compromise either on one of the specs or the price a little bit. These are the ones I've found as potential suitors: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/dell-inspiron-15-5000-15-6-intel-core-i5-laptop-2-tb-hdd-silver-10181483-pdt.html https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/1RJ98EAABU-HP-OMEN-15-ce001na_2147420.html https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J962-2073-MSI-GL62M-7RDX-2073UK_2245212.html https://ao.com/product/5ku43eaabu-hp-laptop-silver-62678-251.aspx Let me know if you can find anything better, or whether I should wait until Black Friday itself to see if there are any better deals. As stated, my budget is £600. I am willing to go a little above it (maybe £650 at a push). Cheers.
