  1. My next tactic I suspect replies like this would drive you and Cleon mad!
  2. you are probably right janitor, i just thought that the RPM will roam around looking for the ball and the BWM will search out the ball trying to win it back. I thought it may leave nobody in CM at times. But hey ho, it is working so i guess i am wrong!
  3. Many people say basic gegenpressing works well, but I am a bit surprised of your success with that midfield! it seems to me that they would just disappear at times leaving a hole! but hey, if it is working then i am obviously wrong!
  4. Hi, so a few things I wonder if they might be affecting results: You have a high defensive line and a low block. Usually a low block is for sitting deep and hitting on the counter and you would expect a lower defensive line, whereas a high block us for pressing higher up the pitch so for a high block. I am not sure on this next one especially with a defensive role, but the BWM role usually doesnt hold position, this means they go looking for the ball to win it back. There could be a hole in DM as that player leaves the position. Maybe switch kante and enzo around? then kante can do some damage whilst enzo holds position and can spread the ball around? Another thing i am not sure on but i have questions over is the combination of play out of defense, work ball into the box, and counter. I wonder if they are at odds with each other? Play out of defense and work ball into box suggests a slow build up, whilst counter is looking for more quick transitions. Anyway, just some thoughts i had, good luck with it!
  5. hehehe i saw the headline and thought this was about miles jacobson!
  6. star rating is compared to your team. so maybe your team is already very good and the scout is struggling to find better players? 4 star potential is a definitefuture starter for your team. Not a lot of people in the real world from China and South Africa starting for teams like Celtic. Maybe consider other regions? or lower your requirements?
  7. I wouldnt be too quick to dismiss ChatGPT, it is another tool that people can use to get enjoyment out of the game. At this point @rootcoors and others are just playing around with it to see what it can do, and if this makes the game fun then cool. See also this thread for how some people are using it. ChatGPT (in my understanding) is only as useful as the questions being asked. I would assume if the user spent the time explaining the attributes of players then it could give more accurate results. So @crusadertsar you have had many amazing threads on FM for like a decade, but until you read this thread you did not know what ChatGPT was. Maybe give it a second look before dismissing it. Obviously you know more than most on how to play FM, but new tools can be of use if we just play around with them and see what they can do. On a side note, i work in education and I wonder how many students have given me reports made by ChatGPT. I am pretty sure I could not tell the difference yet!.
  8. The thing that really stands out to me is that this is a counter attacking tactic with a target man. so that suggests to me that every time you get the ball it will be lumped up to that target man completely bypassing Messi as the wide midfielder. With messi's work rate and stamina, he would rarely see the ball. My thoughts would be to redesign this tactic but start with messi and how you would want him to play. I would suggest you might want him to be the focal point, like get the ball forward as quickly as possible to him and just tell him to do something with it. These days, based on the amazing article here, I try to get my players in the attacking phase to look like this: So essentially 1 player attacking the goal, 2 out wide, 2 in the centre with 2 providing support and 3 defending. The first thing I would do with your tactic is think about where messi would fit in. I would suggest playing him centrally with a role that is a ball magnet (the playmaker roles). Perhaps a Trequartista or an enganche: Next I would build around him. You need someone for messi to feed, I would get rid of the Pressing forward in a counter attack as he would likely be pressing on his own (the others would be sitting back, and messi doing nothing) so I would change Djuka to an advanced forward. I do not know who you have in the team beyond the starters, so I will also keep Nuno in but remove the target forward role as I want messi to be the focal point. Next I like to focus on my width. You seem to have a few Left midfielders so I would keep that, and an attacking RB. So I will use those for the width. (ignore the other positions, there is nowhere else i can put them on that website!). I am not sure of either of the duties, but that would be my start point. So now we have the 5 advanced roles taken care of (roughly) and now i am looking to the support roles. I see you are using an IWB for LB. I am not sure why so this may break down a bit. If this player is like a CM playing at LB, then I would keep that role and duty as it can act as one of the support roles. The other support role can be the other CM as you have one young player you like. I am not sure what to do with that role, so I will keep it as a CMS as I worry that a BWM might not be ideal in a counter attacking style, but i could be wrong there. I would also consider a carrilero as it can give support to the right side. You have a DLP so maybe keep that as the most defensive midfielder, you can use this person to get the ball forward quickly. This will leave me something like this: (again I am not 100% on the roles and duties, just showing you my thought process) With the roles and duties doing these functions: Having done all that, I do wonder if it would be better to remove one of the strikers and move them back, as you are working on a counter attacking tactic so it might be better to have more behind the ball. That could change my aim to something like this: You could have an extra in DM, or reduce the attacking capabilities of the RFB and add a Rmid, or another CM, or an extra CB and use players in the WB strata. Just brainstorming. Anyway, TLDR: I don't think your current tactic will get anything out of messi as the team will just bypass him. Try to think about building the team around him and see what you can come up with.
  9. @whyidie perhaps also consider your budget. FM23 will go on sale and only get lower in price. FM24 will hit at full price and remain that way until about this time next year. If you are happy paying full price and can wait til roughly November, then perhaps wait. if you are like me, a bit of a thrifty shopper for games, then perhaps wait for a sale and get FMN23. Edit. I picked up FM23 in the last sale and I am happy with it. The criticisms I have seen on youtube have been more about how much it has developed rather than particular issues.
  10. I don't have answers to your specific questions (sorry!), but the first thing i would look at is the personalities of the players. Are the players complaining newer to the club? Perhaps they are not as professional (or some other hidden attribute) and are unable (or unwilling) to train like the other players? Note: I have used liverpool before and i had players complaining about the extra training not benefiting them. I think i read on here that many people just ignore this unless they really kick up a stink about it. Note 2: to be honest, these days i just leave training up to the assistant manager. Is it getting the absolute maximum out of training? probably not. Is it reducing the amount of tasks i have to do and meaning no complaints? yes. Buit of course we all play the game differently!
  11. I imagine you can edit this via the pre-game editor. I assume somebody will do this and release it through the usual websites. Note: the 15 points is not removed completely, just (as trhe headline you added says) revoked until the new trial. It could be back. The fact that the punishment to some individuals remained is perhaps not a good sign for the 15 points and Juventus.
  12. Hi, a long time ago Fm had this (called wibwob). It was highly exploited at that time. This link: has a bit of a discussion on it .
  13. This was my first thought also. The number of times I have forgotten to do this is embarrassing!
  14. I am certainly not an expert on these things but i will think you will find a few of the big posters on these forums will say something like: they don't change their tactics based on the opposition. they like to play their own way - enforce their tactic onto the opposition. They would also suggest watching the first 15 minutes and makes changes based on what you see. Anyway, I would also add: you seem to be looking on changing your tactic based on how you press. I would also consider changing your tactic based on how you use the ball in possession. I mean think about the tempo and passing directness based on the opposition pressing system (how much time you have on the ball) and how much space the opposition leaves in behind. If you are getting caught in possession then quicken up the tempo (and vice versa), if there is space behind then consider increasing the directness (and vice versa). But again, this all depends on how you want to play.
  15. I don't know if this is coded in the game, but have a look at salaries in champions league teams. I know that if I win the premier league and champioons league then half my team comes asking for a pay increases, so perhaps its the same for reaching the champions league. Especially if they are on lower salaries, and 45,000 for a starter in the champions league is not high, and you are in the champions league 2 years running!
  16. @Dokes I might be misunderstanding what you want to do, so apologies if i am. Try clicking on "Transfer Centre" on the top left. that might give you want you want.
  17. if you want to play people in a new position (to gain experience there) or play a younger player, then they will often get subbed at half time by the ass man. The ass man also is really unlikely to sub on youth.
  18. There are some people that like to play the game as a DOF. So they handle transfers but hire an assistant manager to be the real manager and leave lots of things up to the assistant manager (training, the games etc). then they sim games. it is another way to play the game.
  19. interesting question. a thread on this a few years ago: It didn't come up with anything concrete but a suggestion of friendly match expenses was put up. I couldn't find anything else in my searches. The Manual doesn't help much.
  20. https://ratemytactic.web.app/ Note: the website is not perfect but fun to play around with.
  21. actually, i don't mean to put them in the MC position, I mean to consider what you want them to do. This player can play DM but as a player that uses the ball and dont expect them to be your ball winner. As XaW says - think of Pirlo. He played DM but had Gettuso next to him to get the ball. So if you want your DM to be an anchor man or a defensive midfielder, and your CM to be a playmaker, then sure put this guy as a CM. But that is not the only way. Imagine a 4-2-3-1: (NOTE: I am not saying this is a good complete use of roles and duties, I am just using it for now) Look at the DM line - there is a DMdef and a DLPsup. They would require different attributes and your player might be very useful as the DLPsup. However if you are playing something different like this: Then yes - he would be better as a CM.
  22. i think over the years the general consensus has been that the 4-2-3-1 geggenpress was overpowered.
  23. so try this: see the 'positions' section? click on the DM. then have a look at the 'role and duty' section and click on a different role (perhaps a deep lying playmaker role with a support duty). then it will highlight the key attributes for that role. the player you are using has good vision, technique, balance and first touch. with pretty good passing, decisions and anticipation. He is a good player 'with' the ball. HIs tackling and marking are a bit poor, and his positioning is not great too, so as a defensive destroyer he is not useful, but use him as a 'passer' and partner him with a 'destroyer', he has lots of value. Try not to think of a DM as a 'role', it is a 'position' on the field. the 'role' is what you want him to do - eg 'deep lying playmaker', 'anchor man' etc. Edit: in addition have a look at the player traits. You can see 'tries killer balls often' and 'likes to switch ball to other flank'. These are definately traits 'with' the ball. They can show you what kind of player this person is. Edit 2: I have just seen you have many posts in the forums, so I am sorry if I have made this a bit too obvious!
  24. Is his PA variable? Young players often have a PA range (EG 150-180) and maybe in this save his PA is just not as high as other saves.
  25. I hate to be that guy: but there is a thread at the top of this forum for just this! I personally recommend Lines and Diamonds by Thog And look at any thread started by Cleon. He recently started: Anyway welcome to the game and i hope you enjoy it. It can take a long time to work out all the ins and outs for the game (I am not even close! I struggle through ;)).
