Heh, didn't realise anyone had responded until today, good to see that the updates will be read icon14.gif I know my bad-start timing has ruined the sign-ups smooth running-ness (if that's a word?), but hopefully it can get up to much better standards again in a few weeks time.

Lisburn seal deserved cup victory with de Goal goal

Intermediate Cup 1st Round - 3.11.07

A good result for Lisburn, but the game was marred by Tom Healy being stretchered off with a serious looking injury. Sporting got the win late into the 2nd half, Ryan de Goal using his pace to get to the ball first, and slot home into the bottom right hand corner from the edge of the box.

Intermediate League Cup Final Build-Up

If you cast your minds back a few months, Sporting Lisburn defeated Ballyclare 4-1 in the Intermediate League Cup (not to be confused with the Intermediate Cup!) Semi-Final, and today they face 1st Division Ards in the final, a game in which Sporting are being written off as likely losers. The game takes place at Ballyclare's Dixon Park, which will host 4000 standing fans (and around 200 seated in the nice corporate area). It will be a fantastic day for Sporting Lisburn in their debut season in the Northern Irish 2nd Division, by playing in their first cup final in their history, and hopefully there will be many more to come.

Sporting miss two players for the game, with Bloodhound away on international duty, and Healy out with a broken leg.

Bleak prospect for Lisburn according to the media

Tough odds for Sporting

However, it will still be a historic day for the fans regardless of the result

The Intermediate League Cup Final

Andrews the hero as Lisburn seal shoot-out victory

Intermediate League Cup Final - 14.11.07

Just less than 4000 fans crowded into Dixon Park this Wednesday evening, and as Gary Sharratt sent his penalty over the bar, over 2000 fans went into raptures and streamed onto the pitch. Why? Because his miss had given the Intermediate League Cup to Sporting Lisburn for the very first time, and their win was in no small part thanks to the contributions of their defence, mainly Ryan Andrews and Alex Drew.

The game began with Sporting in the ascendancy, with Drew heading over several chances from corners, and Kingston poking a few shots wide. But, the break came on 20 minutes, Ards failed to clear a corner which Drew slipped into Bennitto in the left corner of the pitch, and his low search cross looked to be finished by Kingston, but in fact it was Ards striker Ricky Billing who had got there first, and converted into his own net. Ards immediately fought back and enjoyed the majority of the highlights (despite what the stats say...), and they got an equaliser on the stroke of half-time, a looping ball being controlled by Billing between two defenders, and slotting home well.

The second half was a story of brilliant defending by the Lions of Lisburn, with Ryan Andrews making 2 top-class saves, and Alex Drew winning every header and tackle that came at him. Lisburn also had their chances, but noteable Birdy Dos Santos fired over. The 90 minutes were ended, and after a non-event extra-time, the game went to penalties.

Lisburn went into the penalties with 90% of their players having '1' for Penalty Taking, but they got a break as McBride fired high and wide. Drew, with the highest penalty taking stat of '13', stood up to try and put Lisburn ahead, but his tame penalty was saved. The Sporting Fans feared the worse as Newberry stood up to take the penalty, but Andrews pulled off a fantastic save low to his left. James Knowles calmly took the next penalty, and scored the first of the game low into the bottom right hand corner to make it 1-0. However, Ards immediately levelled it with Wilson putting the ball in a similar area. Pablo Gonzalez reinstated the lead, sneaking the ball just inside the left hand post. McKee looked confident to make it 2-2, but Ryan Andrews made another crucial save, meaning Birdy dos Santos could win the shootout for Lisburn. Unfortunately he blasted his penalty over the bar. Now, it was down to Sharratt of Ards to keep them in the shootout, but he fired over, sending the Lisburn players on a mad sprint towards their fans, and they celebrated their first cup victory long into the night, Andrews hailed the hero of the shoot-out.

He trickled in his 2nd and Sporting's 3rd on 53 mins which the keeper just couldn't reach in time, before Bobinho da Silva rose highest at the near post for a wide free-kick to head home a 4th.

Lisburn battle for tricky away win

Northern Irish 2nd Division - 21.11.07

With Ballinamallard Utd seeming to be the main contenders for promotion along with Sporting Lisburn, a victory on their own turf is vital, and that's exactly what the Lions did tonight. Birdy dos Santos had his shooting boots back on today, grabbing a double. He opened the scoring with a far post header after Ballinamallard failed to clear a corner, and Diego Polo added to the score with a 25-yarder into the top left corner. However, the home side looked threatening and got a goal back at the start of the second half, but dos Santos killed the game off with a good goal after latching onto a cross from Marinelli. The home team got a late consolation, but it changed nothing.

Lisburn furious at referee after penalty not given in shock Cup defeat

Intermediate Cup 2nd Round - 24.11.07

Sporting Lisburn were left astounded and angered after a 2-1 away defeat to non-leaguers Newcastle (NIR), and they claim that the referee's decision not to give a penalty for a blatent foul on Robert Boyle changed the game. A furious Connor Murphy spoke to SLtv tonight, telling us "I'm not at all happy with today's preceedings. Robert was clearly obstructed, the referee is 5 yards away, how did he not notice? Booking Robert aswell was just another stupid decision, but it was in keeping with his performance that game - the referee gave us nothing, I felt it was extremely harsh to send off Ryan de Goal (who recieved a red card for simulation), but these things happen, we didn't do anything after that until the game was already lost. I guess it's better luck next year for us". Murphy's complaints have been widely ignored by the FA, which increases weight to the belief that the referee had made the wrong decision.

So after a penalty appeal was turned down and de Goal sent off for diving, Newcastle dominated into a 2 goal lead, before Ninja hit back late on, racing clear from a long Da Silva ball to slide in from just outside the area.

FA Silent over Murphy criticism

Sporting easy to victory over poor Wakehurst

Northern Irish 2nd Division - 28.11.07

Sporting Lisburn cruised to an easy home victory, but if their finishing had been better they could have scored several more. After a half of pressure, Stuart Saville nodded them into the lead from close range (and a keeper error), with Birdy dos Santos sealing the result late on, clipping a shot over the keeper into the right corner.
