Another International Tournament Ticked Off

image.thumb.png.ed35e738d6240cb451f615d0f31ee521.png

Despite having 2 players sent off in extra time Qatar managed to win the Asian Cup through a 5-4 penalty shootout vs Iran in the final.

Hertha Berlin 26/27 & 27/28

 spacer.pngspacer.png

 spacer.png

26/27: When I took over at Hertha the squad I inherited was severely lacking depth – just 13 outfield players in total give or take. Due to this I spent £200m in the January window to give the squad the much needed depth. Overall, from where the team were when we took over, we didn’t make a whole load of progress on the pitch as the season went on finishing roughly where we were when I first took charge, 7th, but I was fairly happy with the overall progress I had made in setting up the team to challenge better next season.

27/28: Despite spending £200m in the previous window I again spent big with £178m of players coming in but that was this time offset by £110m of sales. The transfers we brought in allowed us to fully shape the squad into a much better prospect going forward with the main outlay actually me returning to Coventry to purchase Andres Garcia for £85m. The season we had was great, Bayern obviously posing a huge threat but half way through the season we found ourselves behind them only on goal difference. We had a genuine shot of winning the league by continuing our form but just had to hope that Bayern would slip up a little. In the end that’s what happened, they slipped up, we went on to win the League eventually by 10 points which is a great achievement and somewhat justifies the £378m that I spent to do it! We did have a good season in the cup competitions too this season but unfortunately we lost in the DfB Pokal final despite our opponents being reduced to 10 men. We did win the Euro II cup though which is a nice bonus.

Key Player

Hakan CalhanogluThe 34 year old joined us for £20m from Arsenal but, proved worth it with 24 goals and 19 assists this season a key part in our success.

Top Scorer

Luan RamonOne of our signings in our first window, and scored plenty for us last season with 10 league goals in 15 games. This season he managed 17 league goals from 25 games but in the Euro II he managed 15 in 12.

France

Since I started at France we’ve been generally pretty good as is to be expected with the quality that we have at our disposal though it was a bit iffy at times. We did manage to win the Nations League last season and qualified for the European Championships though didn’t actually win our group which was a big disappointment. The EUROs are this summer so I’ll update in due course and I would imagine anything other than the Final at least would result in me being without an international job.

Amazulu 26/27 Season Review

I managed to win the last thing I needed to win in Africa and that was of course the African Champions League with Amazulu. I dominated in literally every game with a very good team I had.

France 2028 EUROs

1200px-Flag_of_France.svg.png

The minimum expectation from the French FA is for us to reach the final, and whilst we should have the players to do it knockout tournaments are a scary prospect with just one bad game can see you packing your bags.

Group Stages

Spoiler

We were drawn with Belgium, Serbia and Ukraine in our group with Serbia being a team we had beaten in both our encounters in the qualifying phase and with Belgium being the main stand out as a threat. We needn't have worried too much though as we put 4 past each team with Serbia and Norway each scoring consolation goals as we emphatically topped our group with a +10 goal difference.

image.thumb.png.81ff6e897d5ba5a678197a7d084fa20f.png

Second Round (if applicable)

Spoiler

We were handed a favourable draw in Wales for this round who had qualified due to being one of the better 3rd placed teams and our quality shone through with us beating them 5-0 continuing our goalscoring prowess that had seen us through the groups.

image.png.bb7dfd9132ba344c38eebfba5ed5dec5.png

Quarter Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

We were drawn against the hosts here in Italy which was surely our toughest game yet. It transpired as a close game in the end, but we managed to grab two quick fire goals in the 80th and 81st minute to send us to the Semi-Final. Italy also saw a red card late on, but the game really could have gone either way here.

image.png.c2827b64d0fb2fed880bef0758f3ca5f.png

Semi-Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

England were our opponents at the semi-final stage and I was anticipating a similar tie to what we had in the Quarter finals against Italy, but the team had other ideas. Two relatively early goals allowed us the opportunity to control the game and we killed it off late in the second half with two more goals making the Italy game the only one to date where we'd scored less than 4.

image.png.1010ebe23d866835e1036a8d8b349d2d.png

Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

The final had us pitted against a Croatia side who had finished 3rd in their group and had only scored 4 goals in the entire tournament so I was hoping it would be a straight forward affair, but it was anything but. They took the lead in the first half and (as probably could be expected) were playing a pretty defensive formation, thankfully we were able to get back into the game early in the second half but at 1-1 it was anyone's final. They eventually forced us all the way to extra time before we managed to score a header from a deep freekick in the 111th minute to secure the European Championship for France.

image.png.42c8595741132fc9e28d832a233f7bf0.png

What next?

Spoiler

Winning the whole tournament is a huge boost and means of course I will be able to keep my job should I want it - I do. I will hope to be able to make my mark at the World Cup in 2 years but there's a lot less pressure on me to keep my job with France now (though I think they would have a good chance at doing well in the World Cup)

Also, on the club side of things I have agreed to join Inter Milan from Hertha Berlin so can hopefully work towards ticking off another of the 5 main leagues and maybe challenge for the Champions League and Italian Cup whilst I'm at it.

Our best Prem finish so far as we managed to grab 5th. We started hot and cold and it looked like it could be a tough season through Decembers bad form. But a few tweaks and we were up and running and come February we started to look unplayable.

Playing Squad

Squad    Transfers

We are building what I think is a team that has the potential to challenge for everything in the next few years. We overhauled the clubs coaching staff last season and this has now really started to bear fruit with the players making some serious gains over the last 12 months. Our work into the clubs facilities has also come good as we have produced a player who has the potential to be one of the best of his generation. Mitch Dunbar (AML) looks a great prospect and I was planning on signing a new AML this summer but will focus on his development instead. This seasons key men were:

Heron Ricardo (CM) - Signed a few seasons ago and then loaned out due to no work permit, the Brazilian CM returned and walked straight into our first team. He was brilliant in the middle of the park and looks like he can be an absolute superstar.

Dario Moccia (AMR) - Signed in the summer the Belgian winger is everything I needed. He took a few months to settle but has been unreal since after Christmas. He finished the season with 14 goals and 9 assists.

Nick Cooper (CB) - Another stellar season from the English centre back and he looks a player we can rely on for the long term. Him and Steindl have formed a really good CB pairing and I am hopeful of keeping them or a few good years yet.

@BigJackLooks like you might just need one more season, despite your never wanting to leave us.

Im hopeful but not that confident. The extra games Europe brings, we should cope with better than last time due to a bigger squad etc but i really need to find a goal scorer if i am to challenge. My top scorer in the league last season was 13.

Shanghai Shenhua 26/27 Season Review

download.jpg.b156d3feaa9c70c723a8311072ef8b33.jpg

Not a good first season with Shenhua but it is my fault as I had too many foreign players despite me signing loads of Chinese players I could get around the squad registration so I holidayed a day to let the AI do it and they ended up unregistering all of my best players so I was left with a team of grey out players.

I was lucky to stay in the division and finished 12th.

Polokwane City promoted to the DStv Premiership

Spoiler

20220606161107_1.jpg.4bedf88c4d1ece38315b25e3596fab2c.jpg

In our two seasons at Polokwane City, we've done incredibly well. We've won multiple periods and looked like we'd go far in our first full season. We made the Playoff last season despite being last when I joined the club. The club wasn't that bad but just needed some players to be comfortable in their roles and they looked nearly unbeatable. After 26 games, we've had one loss in the league this season in a game against a relegated team with a couple of injuries for us. It was 1-0 so I'm looking forward to the DStv Premiership.

If you want more updates, I'm covering this challenge here.

FC Barcelona: 2041/42 Review

Having won a surprise Bundesliga and Champions League double in Germany I packed my bags and headed off to the great city of Barcelona to take on my new role with one of the most famous clubs in world football. The Catalans have played second fiddle to Real Madrid over the past few years although did pick up a La Liga title just two years back. I inherited a team full of attacking quality but only three recognised defensive players. I had to focus my attention on that area and managed to bring in four new defenders including young right back German Muller from former side RB Leipzig in a £57,000,000 deal. For good measure we also brought in exciting 19-year old goalkeeper Pericles from Brazil in a £16,000,000 deal.

We produced a pretty impressive performance across the league campaign although we would fail to topple Real Madrid and recapture the La Liga title. To pick up 94 points and finish second was disappointing though, losing twice to Real Madrid certainly not helping our cause. I was pleased with how my new arrivals settled in though and we also saw a breakthrough season for young striker Eduardo. He’s a product of the youth academy here and was recently revealed as the number one wonder kid in world football.

Outside of the league we had a frustrating season though as we failed to really make any waves. We lost in the final of the Spanish Super Cup and the quarter finals of both the Spanish Cup and the Champions League. Atletico Madrid saw us off domestically and we narrowly lost 1-2 on aggregate to Manchester City in the Champions League.

After one campaign here it’s fair to say I now see the challenge that I had taken on. Real Madrid are by far the strongest team in Spain and chasing them down is going to be no easy feat. We’ve got a good squad here but it did take me some work as it was so unbalanced. With a positive summer here though I am confident we can come back stronger next time around. I’m hoping we can be much more competitive next season and with any luck we can pick up a trophy in the process as well.

My time with South Korea has continued in a positive way now, and having been here for just under four years we’ve suffered just one defeat. That defeat came in the semi final of the World Cup as we put together an unbelievable run of form and saw off some really good sides.

That run saw us climb all the way to 14th in the world rankings and we have a really strong selection of players. We recently won the East Asian Cup for the second time in a row and now my focus shifts to the one tournament I took charge for. I’ve waited for nearly four years for the Asian Cup and it is now nearly upon us. We will enter it as favourites and we simply have to go on and win it. I’ve been in charge for four years and winning that would be the perfect position for me to walk away from them with my head held high.

South Korea: Asian Cup 2043

For all the fairly regular successes my career has found at club level it’s fair to say that international management hasn’t been so kind. I took over South Korea in the aftermath of the last Asian Cup though, and it’s been a long four year wait to lead this side into the tournament. We’ve won two East Asian Cups and reached the semi finals of the World Cup, but this was the one I have waited patiently for.  After four years of management and just the solitary defeat in charge I took my team to India for the Asian cup.

34760321_AsianNationsCup_Stages-2.png.78751ff8482eaa74afd1609f91d8a966.png

As expected we breezed through the group stage although we did face an unsurprising test against Qatar in game two. After dismantling Bahrain in our opener we fell behind to Qatar early on in the second half. Two late goals thankfully saw us turn it around but it had definitely given us a scare. Turkmenistan were completely outclassed in our last match as we qualified from our group with three wins out of three.

Unsurprisingly we breezed our way through to the final, dispatching teams including the UAE and China with ease and scoring plenty of goals. Making the final was basically a minimum expectation and to do so didn’t really feel like much of an achievement. Australia stood in our way as we looked to win the final and pick up the silverware.

2036441587_GezSaunders_Inbox-42.png.917c5f9a121017f9ddf93925b201768b.png

The final was a tight affair that we did well to fight back from in normal time. We controlled the game but conceded and then had to fight back hard to find the equaliser. During extra time we looked capable of going on to win but didn’t and the lottery of a penalty shoot out wasn’t kind.

Defeat broke me a little and having waited for four years to get my shot at this tournament it was extremely disappointing to fall short. Only the second defeat of my four year spell in charge but an extremely costly one. I couldn’t handle staying another four years so handed in my resignation to focus on my club career. I’ll probably stay clear of international management now until the next World Cup has been and gone and the usual managerial merry go round takes place.

A very successful season! I was able to win the league comfortably, win the cup (although nearly losing in the semifinals to a 3rd division side), and even guide Congo RC to their first ever world cup appearance!

Club

After guiding Persib to an unlikely AFC Champions League knockout stage place, I resigned as I had accomplished everything in Indonesia I wanted to and couldn't see myself winning the Asian champions league with an Indonesian team. I took on Orlando Pirates and quickly built a strong team, but I didn't think it would be as strong as it's proving to be. So far, we haven't lost all season and have taken trophies in the MTN 8 and Telkom Knockout competitions, and it's looking very strong. I brought on my Indonesian wonderkid Agus Santoso with me from Persib and have helped develop a few key players for Orlando, and have not one but two players now playing in Portugal with 50% sell-on clauses.

International

After Senegal failed to win AFCON 2025, their manager resigned and I filled in. A successful World Cup campaign saw us drop in the third round to Brazil, but an easy qualification group set us up for an appearance in AFCON 2027.

The group stage was very straightforward, as we were handed another easy group involving Mali (3-2 win), Tanzania (0-0 draw), and Angola (2-0 win)

The Round of 16 matchup saw me take on my former Congo RC, and Mamadou Coulibaly scored a brace in our 3-1 victory.
The quarterfinal matchup was the hardest, being drawn against Ghana. A penalty kick in extra time from Ismalia Sarr set up a wonderful 2-1 win.
The semifinal matchup saw us against Tunisia, and an early goal from Boulaye Dia put us into the final after a very strong performance from Edouard Mendy.

The final, against Morocco, proved to be the easiest match of the entire competition, with a 4-1 cruise to victory and a hat-trick by Boulaye Dia.

The win saw me enter the American managerial Hall of Fame (9th)

Where next?

Of course, I will be staying with Orlando Pirates for the future until we win the African champions league. Internationally, depending on what openings are available, I may try to take over with the US National Team in an attempt to win the gold cup, or even try the Asian Cup with a team like Australia, Japan, or South Korea. It all depends on who gets fired.

A nice league and cup double for Shenhua in my first proper season in charge. We recruited well and also managed to sort out the squad registration issue by getting rid of some of the old foreign players.

I am trying to bring in as many good Chinese players as possible.

Best Player - Victor Fakude - 22 Year Old South African Striker

Fakude who I signed from former club Amazulu has settled in nicely in China and smashed it on the pitch with a whopping 35 goals from 30 games. I hope to keep him at Shenhua until I win the Asian Champions League and then I can try take him with me to my next destination.

Annoying I have upset the board somehow even though I won the double I failed to become the most reputable team in China and grow the club's reputation.

Bit of a rubbish start with Venezuela but I wasn't expecting miracles as there are a lot of teams way better then me in this group.

Absolute madness having one big group of 10 teams.

Still got a few games left to try get qualification but it will be a big ask from the team.

Real Madrid Season 2040/41  Review

LeagueThis is such a rare thing for me in this journey to take over the best side in the country, only other times it's happened has been back in the early days with Sundowns and then again with Salzburg, so taking over a Real side that had won the past 3 titles this wasn't as tough as it could have been. We lost my first game in charge before winning 23 of the next 24 games before we just kind of fell apart. I assume it was age catching up us, we had a very old squad, but after such a run we lost 3 of our last 12 while just about beating sides we should have been smashing but it was enough to secure the title with 3 games to go.

CupWas a good run before a narrow win in the final

Champions LeagueI'm starting to hate this competition now. I just can not do anything in the knock out stages. The Red Bull game was our only defeat in the cup and wa sone of those games where they had 3 shots and scored each one while we couldn have played for a week without scoring the goals we needed.

SuperCupCouple 1-0 wins at the turn of the year won us this and in fact was part 1 of our domestic treble

TransfersThere's not a lot of money here and it's an old squad so all the transfers I made were in Jan and were all youngsters

SquadLike I say, it's an old squad and I think this was their last hurrah as it's going to require significant rebuilding this summer

I really don't know what to do now. I need the French league (and another cup) along with the Champions League so the sensible thing would be to stay here for another crack at it but the finances are so bad that I'm thinking of leaving and waiting for a job in France.

I have only gone and qualified to the World Cup with Venezuela. I call it a miracle as we had no chance at one point but somehow the players just hit it off and gelled well together.

We had to beat Uruguay to do it and they have Darwin Nunez and Matias Arezo up front for them but we still managed to beat them 2-1 to qualify.

Charlton Athletic 2048/49

Final Season/End of Challenge Report

Competitions

Premier League - League Table    Results 1    Results 2

I can only describe this season as an odd one. We finished 5th last year, 11 points of Man City. In the summer City's manager left to take the Chelsea job who finished 7th which was odd enough. Even more odd was we absolute ran away with the league. A great start, beating last season 1st and 4th placed teams had me feeling positive and we just kept getting better and better. The fact none of the other sides seemed to really be playing well helped and at one point we were 18 points clear of 2nd place after a 15 game win streak which included conceding a single goal in 2 of those 15 games. We had a bit of a wobble when the Europa League knockouts started, losing to City, Chelsea, Watford and Everton but managed to pick our form back up to sealed the title with 3 games left.

F.A. Cup - Results

Disappointed to only get to the 5th round but the game came when we was in our wobble and Everton were the better side on the day.

EFL Cup - Results

A decent run to the last 4 where we faced a Southampton side who are inconsistent but really good on their day. They got the better of us on penalties in the end.

Europa League - Results

We had a tough group alongside Monaco, Sporting and RU Saint-Gilloise. We managed to brush aside Sporting and Saint-Gilloise but the games with Monaco were a lot tougher. We went through after coming 2nd and the dispatch Granada, RB Leipzig, Ajax. We faced Villa in the last 4 and after a 0-0 draw at home we drew 3-3 away and they managed to beat us on penalties.

Playing Squad

What can I say about this bunch. I have managed some excellent sides along this save and although they aint quite at the level of my Juventus and Atletico sides, they are definitely one of my favourites. The level of improvement over the last 18 months has been phenomenal and I may just keep playing on with them just to see how dominant they can become.  Key men this season were

Darrio Moccia (AMR) - The right winger has been the catalyst in us going from mid table side to champions. His signing seems to have inspired the squad and he has had another fantastic season.

Anders Bonde (CB) - The Danish CB isnt one of my first choice pairing but with the extra games Europe brings has had plenty of game time and has been excellent when called upon.

Ruben Real (AML) - Was out of favour at times last season and at the start of this one and came close to leaving. I am glad I kept him though as he was brilliant this season.

Hall Of Fame

This has been super tough to do and I am not going to go just by ability but also by how influential they was at the time of me managing them.

GK - Daniele Greco (GK)

RB -  Jose Campos (RB)

LB -  Lee Tae-Suk (LB)

CB - Djoukalou Fofana (CB

CB - Jonathan Steindl (CB)

CM - Gabriel Munoz (CM)

CM - Heron Ricardo (CM)

AMR - Tafael (AMR)

AMC - Louis Hughes (AMC)

AML - Ibrahim N'goran (AML)

ST - Marko Culum (ST/AMR)

Cape Town Spurs

Ibrahim N'Goran (AML) - was only with us for one season before moving on, but what a season it was. He was the main man as we managed to win a first DSTV Prem title.

Romuald Traore (AMR) - Another player who I managed for just the one season. But with N'Goran moving on, he made up for the goals and assists loss to lead us to a league and Champions League double.

Brandon Peterson (GK) - Signed on a free at the start of our first season in the Prem, he went on to make 144 appearances in total and was a mainstay as we conquered Africa.

Neil Zondi 22a (ST) -  Part of first youth intake, he went on to become our main goal threat. He scored 63 goals in 93 games in all competitions.

Tigres UANL

Aldair Benitez (CM) - Only been in charge of him 6 months but this kid can go on to be something very special. Will look to resign him at some point in the future.

Dejan Joveljic (ST) - Was here when I arrived and has been sensational up top. 37 goals in 36 games meant he was a key part of our treble winning team.

William Ramos  (AMC) - The American was one of our first signings at the club. 9 goals and 20 assists in 52 games doesn't justify just how important he was to us.

Miguel Rodriguez (CB) - Another player who was only with us 6 months. But the big centre back deserves his place, an average rating of 8.09 and 10 goals from 21 games is superb returns.

Guangzhou

Ibrahim N'goran (AML) - He was sensational for me at Cape Town and he has been on another planet ever since bringing him to Guangzhou. 85 goals alongside 69 assists in just 76 games is unreal.

Zhan Zhiqiang (ST) - Another player who's goal return has been spectacular. Signed for 1.8m the Chinese striker has hit 92 goals in 78 games.

Lee Tae-Suk (LB) - Wing backs are a vital part of my tactical system and the South Korean has played the role to perfection. 40 games and 17 assists is a nice return.

Neil Vargas (CB) - The American CB was one of the first players I signed as when I took over the side had no quality in defence at all. Alongside Tae-Suk, Vargas has been a major part of a defence that has broken records. we conceded 8 goals in 34 league games last season and at one point kept 14 consecutive shut outs with Vargas playing a key role.

Corinthians

Tafael (AMR) - Was a key player from the day I arrived, Scoring 60 and getting 34 assists in 92 games.

Jose Campos (RB) - The 16 year old played over 40 games for me and was brilliant.

Cristiano Moraes (ST) -  Signed at the start of the second season for £6.25m he proved an absolute steal as he scored 44 goals in 60 games.

Feyenoord

Marko Culum (ST) - The striker was at the club when I arrived and instantly became a key player notching 99 goals and 20 assists in 115 games.

Mohamed Amine Belhajjam (GK - The GK was signed from Ajax just days after I arrived and proved a solid foundation of the teams progress. He averaged a clean sheet every other game over 3 seasons playing 98 missing just 4.

Ruben Mesquita (CB) - Was at the club when I arrived and proved to be a class act at CB or CM. Almost left after my first season but I managed to convince him to stay and he has been happy since.

Louis Hughes (AMC) - Another player who was at the club when I arrived and has been sensational for me. Has filled in at AMR and ST when needed and always done a solid job.

Atletico Madrid

Djoukalou Fofana (CB - The Spanish Centre back has been a mainstay of my time in charge. In my 3 full seasons he started 98 league games and averaged a 7.75 over them games, and also chipped in with 31 goals.

Daniele Greco (GK) - The American GK has been another mainstay of my side. Only missed 4 league games of my time in charge and I could make a highlight reel of some of the saves me makes.

Gabriel Munoz (CM) - Another player who was her when I arrived. He was part of 4 players on over £500k a week at the time and he was the only one I didnt get rid of. Proved a good decision as he has been excellent year on year.

Mauro Sanchez (ST) - The Mexican striker was the only one of these 4 I signed and he proved an absolute hit in Spain. 96 league goals from 120 games.

Bayer Leverkusen

Jesper Andrell (AML) - The Swede is a legendary figure in the game. I first signed him for Tigres years ago and he moved on to Man City and then Barcelona, winning 2 Balon d'ors and 2 Fifa mens best player awards along the way. When he came available for just 11m I couldnt say no, especially as we lost N'Goran in the summer and he was a direct replacement. He contributed an impressive 26 goals and 18 assists in 36 starts.

Nicolas Lopez (CB) - A Rolls Royce of a centre back he has been outstanding for the 2 season I have been in charge.

Joseph Mohammed (ST) - Led the line well and looks like he could be a real goal threat if he keeps on improving.

Juventus

Marko Culum (ST/AMR) - He was a monster for me at Feyenoord where I played him strictly as a striker. He has played there this season but also filling in at RW when needed and is a real superstar in either position.

Alexis Aguilar (AML) - The other baller from my Feyenoord side, the Mexican left winger has developed into one of the best players in the world and is so influential. Managing so many different sides and using basically the same tactics minus a few tweaks here and there has really opened my eyes up to just how valuable the left winger is in my system.

Greivin Jiminez (CB) - The Costa Rican CB is an absolute unit in the defence. Playing a key role in our 27 clean sheets in 38 league games.

Marseille

Simon Junghans (ST) - Signed as a back up but played a key role once settled into the side.

Marcelinho (CM) - The Brazilian has been brilliant in the middle of the park for us and runs games at times.

Sebastien Pinero (RB) - The young Spanish wing back is really developing into a brilliant player. Another season or 2 and he could easily be a world class player. Chipped in with 12 assists.

Charlton

Darrio Moccia (AMR) - The Belgian was the catalyst behind our title charge and had 2 fantastic seasons for us.

Jonathan Steindl (CB) - The Serbian CB has been a mainstay of our 4 seasons in the Prem and has developed into one of the best in the world.

Heron Ricardo (CM) - Another player who helped take us to the next level. The CM came in and shone in the middle of the park for 2 seasons.

James McAlister (AML) - Initially signed on loan as we sealed promotion to the Prem he played a key role for 5 seasons.

So yeah after Madrid I did resign in the hopes of starting a manager merry go round that would leave me a role in France. The first part went well in that it did cause a merry go round but sadly only in England and Germany :D So I had to wait out an entire season but finally got the PSG job. They're not the team we all know from the start, the owners have moved on and in fact Lyon have won 6 of the last 7 league titles and they've never won the Champions League so the plan is to make this my last role and build this club up to the top.

Well done, @BigJack I'll add you to the hall of fame tomorrow. It's an impressive way to finish, and I love me some challenge Elevens.

Cheers. It has come a couple seasons earlier than expected. The game almost felt glitched during the 15 game win streak. We beat spurs 9-1 and were 7-0 up at HT having had 8 shots which is crazy. But its a great challenge.

They warned me before when I declared interest in the Brazil and Argentina jobs when their manager's were on the verge of getting sacked and then when I applied for the jobs they sacked me even though I am already the manager of Venezuela so it makes no difference whether I changed my International job.

Stupid bug on FM that don't make sense.

Anyway I applied for other club jobs and I am now the manager of ......

Polokwane City WIN the Telkom Knockout Final

Spoiler

20220608153825_1.thumb.jpg.2ea6811f04af0da4b6dd922e104cd4c8.jpg

With that win, we've completed the first of the 32 parts of this challenge. In our second full season, we've won the Telkom Knockout against Orlando Pirates. The scoreline makes it look more easy than it was. The ball pinging around the box from a Thobejane cross eventually fell to 20 year old Hlangabeza for an open goal to make it 1-0 for the result at half time. I was happy with that. We were on top and comfortable. Orlando Pirates never really got started in that first half but I expected it to come.

A fantastic low through ball from Left Back Ntsane put Thobejane through one on one to make it 2-0 in the 55th minute before a corner gave Orlando Pirates a chance only 5 minutes later. What followed was a steady increase in xG for Orlando Pirates but nothing enough for a highlight until the 85th minute when substitute Thopola brought an Orlando Pirates player down on the edge of the box. I feared what was going to follow it but it was a comfortable save by Sixhaso. The highlight felt like an age to happen but what eventually happened was a through ball to Thopola when one on one with the goalkeeper to make it 3-1.

After that, we shut up shop planning for no more highlights. Then one came. SIxhaso was passed the ball and punted it down field. Ramatlo judged his run perfectly to make it yet another one on one with the goalkeeper and 4-1 in the 92nd minute. I didn't think there was any coming back from 3-1 down but 4-1 just made it even sweeter. 1/32 with the Telkom Knockout. Onto whichever comes next.

This season was a write off for me as I only took over with 15 games to go. This season was just getting used to the squad and getting the players to get used to my tactic.

My aim next season is to try win some silverware as I hate wasting a season with no silverware.

Best Player - Luca Martinez Dupuy - 29 Year Old Mexican Striker

image.thumb.png.2c0ef02a643e494c464fa6ea66ab8c63.png

Dupuy seems like a good striker to build the team around with 17 goals this season. He has been at the club for 13 years at this point so I will be hoping he can do better next year and get us to qualify for the Copa Libertadores.

Ah, fantastic!

So as I mentioned, I am a year or so in. I got the DR Congo job off the bat, could not get a decent club job though so decided to go down the route of trying to do something with DR Congo as their squad is actually pretty good by African squad standards and see if that meant I could get a better club job.

A year in and I got offered the job at Cape Town All Stars, freshly promoted as Champions from the South African second division to the Premiership. Really annoyed the board by going against their U23 policy wishes to sign loads of senior players because their squad is really bad but we see if the gamble pays off.

Just after doing that round-up, I was taking a look at the Club World Cup and how the South American sides were getting on... to which I noticed the Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana hasn't been playing properly. I've had a look through the forum, but not sure there's a fix.

Anyone know if it's fixable? Otherwise I'll have to try and restart the whole challenge I guess.

"To know your enemy, you must become your enemy"

So I started in South America (primarily to keep an eye on the pesky Copa Libertadores) and surprisingly was offered the job at Chilean top flight side Deportes Melipilla. Although predicted to go straight back down, they had had a decent start, sitting 11th with just under half the season to go.

League - Cup (N/A)

Campeonato AFK Planvital:

Stayed up by the skin of our teeth! Finished a point above the relegation playoff, so we've managed another season in the top flight. Not a whole lot to say here with only half of the season under my belt. Straight after the last game, I started dismantling a lot of the squad and targetting new players, so it'll be a pretty different team come the start of the 2022 season.

Copa Chile:

N/A - Deportes Melipilla were knocked out before I joined sadly.

Manchester City FC: 2043/44 Review

I arrived in England hoping for a brief and successful stay, especially having joined Manchester City. We were the bookmakers favourites to win basically every trophy and I was expecting us to be competitive across all fronts hoping to dive in and out of England as quickly as possible.

To strengthen the squad I spent over £150,000,000 on new faces although managed to recoup more than that in player sales. The biggest signing was young central defender Ezequiel Mandile who arrived from my former club Red Bull Leipzig in a £87,000,000 deal.

1363893530_EnglishPremierDivision_Stages-4.png.434d2c620c79708c8e120b6ef6a3403e.png

We actually started the league campaign fairly slowly before picking our form up around the midway stage. From there we went to the end of the season unbeaten and gradually saw ourselves pull away. Title challenges by Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham were all derailed by defeats to us and we ended up clinching the league title with three matches to go. The 32 league strikes by legendary striker Arnel Lakota a significant benefit for us. Of note was Tottenham striker Oier Ramos though. He left Barcelona with me and joined spurs in a free transfer dealing. He would score a league record 40 goals in just 33 appearances.

EFL.png.cb7bffc6513244d32d09192a79b7b88b.png

Outside of the league we picked up the domestic cup I wanted early on by winning the League Cup. We breezed all the way through before producing a nervy but victorious display against Tottenham. It didn’t matter though as winning the competition was all that mattered really. We also made it to the final of the Champions League before losing to a late penalty in a 0-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund. The FA Cup was the only disappointment as we fell out at the first hurdle to Chelsea after a defeat on penalties.

CL.png.b637a2f1068033a514dede457dae92cd.png

With the successes of a domestic league and cup double fresh in my mind I handed in my resignation and left the club hunting for a new challenge. I wanted a short and successful spell here and we got all I needed perfectly in one season. Losing in the final of the Champions League was a painful final match in charge for me but it wasn’t important really as it’s a trophy I already lifted during my time with Red Bull Leipzig.

Awaiting new challenges at club level I did however sign on to return to international management.

England_-2.png.971529815b069fe362993edaa7e105cd.png

Having just won the European Championship the manager left his post and went on to replace me at Manchester City. Almost immediately I was offered a host of international roles and England was a relatively straightforward choice. Ranked second in the world it’s a perfect opportunity for me to hopefully chase both the World Cup and European Championship crowns although success will be my only saviour.

I did attend an interview with Juventus for their vacant position but somewhat shockingly they went on to employ somebody else. I’m hunting a role in either France or Italy really but with the new campaign now up and running I’m going to have to wait and remain patient.

A perfect season without a single loss in any competition. I've never accomplished such a feat in FM before and have my star players to thank for the most incredible season I've ever managed.

I managed to also develop and sell three wonderkids to Europe, all near Minimum Release Clause values: Thabang Jaftha (450k), Thapelo Badboy (around 800k), and Fortune Basadien (around 500k)

I brought on my favorite player from managing at Persib, Agus Santoso. Santoso and I together broke into club history as "Favored personnel" in the first year. Agus had a stretch of 9 games where he scored in every game he played, despite being a central midfielder. He also developed into the best player on the team. I need to keep him for another year, win the champions league, and then bring him wherever I can go.

A squad with some familiar faces in Reece James, Curtis Jones, Jude Bellingham, Jadon Sancho, Mason Mount etc.

I should easily win the World Cup and Euros with this squad.

England are currently ranked 2nd in the Nations Rankings.

Now I need to find a club job preferably in England.

2/32 - Polokwane City win the DStv Premiership

The first title of the save is done. After taking over them when bottom of the GladAfrica Championship, we showed that we had the fight and desire to win the title and cup we needed. Since AmaZulu won their game, we needed to beat Swallows. We were already leading 2-0 and comfortable when AmaZulu took the lead in their game. Orlando Pirates and the Kaiser Chiefs bottled under the pressure and will take part in the CAF Confederations Cup next season as we go for the first of the 5 Champions Leagues to complete Africa at club level.

They haven't won the French League since 2008 I plan to change that.

Aouar and Caqueret are still at the club which is nice to see.

Lyon are currently 9th in the league when I took over with 12 games played so far. PSG are unsurprisingly top with 30 points. I don't think we will catch up with them this season but I would like to win the French Cup in my 1st season in charge of Lyon. Anything else is a bonus.

In the last 10 seasons PSG have won the French league every time with Lyon finishing runner up 4 out of them 10 seasons.

POLOKWANE CITY WIN THE CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!

Spoiler

20220616043325_1.jpg.ec705ff8605a343160c8c4a49544a2f3.jpg

African Club Football is complete. We managed the squad to compete in cups and sacrificed our league position for it. This season, we won the MTN 8, CAF Super Cup, Telkom Knockout, Nedbank Cup and the CAF Champions League. Against Asante Kotoko, we were dominant but just didn't score until Summer Signing Max McMillan scored in the 88th minute. They had two shots all game and none in the first half. The game should have been over. I was nervous for a sucker punch. But we've done it.

Credit to Asante Kotoko because they made it this far. Two 0-0s and a penalty shootout in the Semi-Final is how they got here. I didn't expect them to beat Wydad Casablanca but they set up well. They tried the same plan in the final and were so close to pushing the game beyond 90 minutes.

In terms of the club, they have 4 million in the bank and a clause on Aidan Mfulwane. I've set them up for the future and the now. They could become a solid DStv Premiership Team and I hope they do after I leave.

I don't know what the next step is. There are some Mexican Expansion Clubs available but really, I have the pick of everything.

Torino FC: 2045/46 Review

Having clinched league titles with Manchester City and FC Barcelona in the past two seasons I moved to Torino FC hoping to complete a surprise hat trick. Although major honours had eluded the club they had one of the stronger squads in Italy and I joined them shortly after the bookmakers had named them their surprise favourites to lift the Serie A crown.

To aid my chances I was armed with a transfer budget a little over £70,000,000 and looked to bring in a few new faces to offer some depth in some problem areas. Having cleared out some dead wood and bringing in funds I focused on finding a holding midfielder and a new goalkeeper. The former was filled with the £13,000,000 arrival of Andre Tokich from Club Brugge. Goalkeeper wise I signed a player I knew well after he was transfer listed by Barcelona. We parted with £43,000,000 to bring in 26-year old Pericles in a club record deal. He had fallen out of favour with the Spanish side but was first choice stopper for me when I took Barcelona to the La Liga crown.

1745552745_ItalianSerieA_Stages-8.png.5fd5e6bc5753205b763bdd34b9dcc105.png

We ended up romping to a really surprise title win and the clubs first league crown since 1972. The 20+ goals of Shuichi Kudo on the left wing and striker Tomas Torres helping us on our way. Winger Elias William was a revelation too, after I spent £22,000,000 to bring him to the club from Rennes. Defensively we were sublime throughout and we produced a tremendous 28 match unbeaten streak after being thumped 0-3 at Juventus in our only loss of the campaign.

Unfortunately the League was as good as it got for us though as we faced quarter final eliminations in both the Italian Cup and the Europa League. Sassuolo defeated us in the Italian Cup after an extra time goal and in the Europa League we were thumped by Arsenal over two legs. In my defence I did play a much changed squad for both legs though as it came at a crucial time of our title race and the league was my priority.

Although I haven’t yet, I will be resigning from my club position and looking for somewhere else. I’m really keen to get the PSG job as they are so ridiculously dominant in French football. Unfortunately it looks unlikely that position will come available though and so for the time being I am just going to remain patient. I’m about to lead my England side into the World Cup and I’m desperately hoping to lift the tournament. Internationally my challenge has been slow and i could really do with winning a few of the necessary tournaments. My hope is to win this World Cup and then have a crack at the European Championships in two years time with this England side. We’re ranked 2nd in the world and coming off the back of winning the Nations League last summer. I’ll return after the tournament with an update on how we get on.

A decent first season in charge of Lyon with us finishing well behind PSG. Winning the French league may take a few seasons. I might have to keep an eye out for the PSG job if it comes available but I at least won the French Cup with Lyon with us beating RC Lens 4-3 in the final.

Star Players - William Lehmann and Ektoras Zeniou

William Lehmann - 27 Year Old French Left Winger

My French maestro on the win Lehmann was amazing with 23 goals and 11 assists. I managed to tie him down to a lengthy contract.

Ektoras Zeniou - 23 Year Old Cypriot Striker

Zeniou was a goal machine with 23 goals and 7 assists. Still very young and not hit his prime yet.

SENEGAL WIN THE 2029 AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS!

A comfortable qualifying run was rewarded with a simple group of Congo, Guinea and South Africa. None of them were a challenge as we won all three games and conceded no goals. First in the group meant a third placed team in Angola which we won 2-0 followed by an Egypt side who have lost Salah. We've lost Mane so it's not exactly uneven in our struggles. The Semi Final was a battle of the goalkeepers as Onana and Mendy were star starters. A comfortable win set up a final against hosts DR Congo. Two doubles at each end of the game meant we win the African Cup of Nations with no goals conceded.

PSG Season 22042/43 Review

Super Cup - Our first game in charge was the super cup against Lyon. A good 3-0 win gave me confidence for the season

League - We dominated this season, we won out first 10 games and only conceded 3 times, our first defeat in the league was game 19 in late Jan. No one came close. Most reading this is what you expect from PSG but this PSG isn't the one from the start of the game, the owners have moved on and they had only won 1 title in the last 7 seasons, Lyon are the dominate team here so winning this so easily came as a bit of a shock for me.

Cup -  This was a let down, comfortable early round wins before being knocked out away to Lyon.

Champions League - not being champions meant we were 3rd seeds in the draw which gave us Real and Man City who were too strong for us, we ended 3rd so dropped to the Europa league

Europa league - Had a really good run here, I wanted to win it just to give confidence to the players but Chelsea in the Semi finals were too strong, we battered them at home after losing the away leg 2-0 but just couldn't find a way through

Transfers - I went into full Harry Redknapp mode here (probably why it took me so long to do this season) as I took over a aging squad, I shipped out as many old players as I could and tried to bring in better or at least those with potential. the work is far from done though so i expect another big turnover this summer.

Squad - The issue here is that the squad I took over was the oldest in the league. We had 13 players aged 32 or older with another 2 or 3 coming in on free transfers before I started. We shipped many off but still had 8 left during the season. Most will be gone this summer either moving on or because they're retiring. The other issue with so many older players is that they were all on massive wages so the savings we'll make there this summer will allow me to splurge again in the transfer marker. We don't need much really, new keeper and some squad depth mainly.

International

After the World Cup a few international jobs came up as usual and I was offered roles with Holland, Spain, and France. As I was already PSG manager I felt France was the way to go. It's not been plain sailing here as for the first time in a while I've really struggled to find the right players to suit my system so used the nations league to try different systems and players out. It did not go well. We finished 3rd and lost all 3 games at home and needed a win away to Romania in the final group game to ensure we stayed up. Since then I've gone back to my routes and playing with the system that has won me everything in this save. We have the Euros next summer and it's the final international trophy left for me. Qualification is really just starting now so will update on that at the end of the next PSG season.
