Atletico Madrid 2036/37

Competitions

La Liga - League Table    Results 1    Results 2

We led the table for the majority of the season and going into the last game were top, level on points with Madrid but with a +2 goal difference advantage. We won our game 4-0 they won theirs 11-0, YES 11-0 in a result that needs looking into by the authorities. Even so we have had a great season that has shown how much the team has progressed.

Copa Del Ray - Results

A Semi Final exit to Vallecano was a major disappointment.

Supercopa - Results

The only one that doesn't matter and yep, we won it.

Champions League - Results

A great run to the final where we led 1-0 in the 88th minute and ended up losing 2-1 AET just to add to our season of coming so close.

Playing Squad

Squad    Transfers

2 and a half years after joining we now possess a very talented team with some youngsters who look like they are going to be world class players. Top boys this season were:

Djoukalou Fofana (CB) - The centre back has gone from strength to strength since we joined is a major force is our back line. 8 goals and an average rating of 7.64 from 43 starts.

Jose Sanchez (RW) - The Columbian winger is a superstar. 11 goals and 25 assists in 38 starts this season.

Sascha Ahrenstedt (LW) - Its been a breakout season for the young Greek winger who is looking like he is ready to play a major part for us next season.

Next Season.

I have agreed a one year extension with the club due to my contract being up this summer. We have the Club World Cup in June and I havent competed in that yet in this save. and I feel that we are so close to ending Reals dominance and can have another good crack at the Champions League next season also.

@BigJackAnother gutting end to the season, (along with @Skills finishing runner up in everything earlier).

As I'm currently reading your post to try to de-stress from my own pointy end of the season end (albeit in a different challenge), you're not really helping.

When I last did this challenge, I won the league every single season for the last 15 or so seasons (apart from when I took over clubs mid-season). That was probably a year and a half ago, and now i come to think of it, that might be the last time I won a top division title.

Hopefully something that's going to change in the next 10 or so minutes.

Frustrating is an under statement. I went 4-0 and thought "job done" they cant be 7 up. Looked, and it was 8-0. In my younger days i cant promise my laptop would have survived but you just have to laugh.

Fingers crossed your run comes to an end or already has. 🤞🤞

POST 38: Yaala Hapoel

Hoping for better results than last year. Have brought in some reinforcements, so want to see an improvement.

Couldn't stay away from international management forever, and when the Mexican side lost their manager, I was more than keen to step in.

image.png.82a544ff42041f3a56fa7c13d026144f.png

After getting past Olympiakos in the previous round, I thought Spartak Trnava wouldn't be an obstacle to us getting to the group stage.

The first leg finished 0-0, and we traveled to Slovakia with all to play for.

Definitely didn't expect to see 11 goals be scored in 120 minutes. But at least we came through it and are within touching distance of the big boys in the Conference League.

image.png.8ae59cfa5fc5cda23104d48393f7b718.png

But our European journey was soon over, as Troyes proved to be too formidable for us, winning 3-0 and 4-0 to send us out the tournament in the last qualifying round.

image.thumb.png.da1596de504eb6ef99795c9dfbdff794.png

They say men can't multitask, but somehow I managed to get Mexico qualified for both the NA Nations League finals and the Gold Cup with a win from the same match! Never seen that before.

And even more importantly, I then got news that Mexico, and USA, were to be the extra teams in the upcoming Copa America.

So what started as just a stop gap job, and returning to a country where a club calls me an icon, may actually help send me into retirement. We are the highest ranked team, so surely we are the favourites, no?

image.png.596f94f0d5cf343dfb8ed683968b8773.png

In the league, as we hit the split with 10 games to go, the 10 point gap to our nearest and dearest just seems to big a gap to overcome.

But we are still in the cup and will focus on that instead.

image.png.dd0f1b61b321502476460c9a287733fb.png

With a few league games to go, we had guaranteed 3rd in the league. Maccabi Haifa had secured the title.

Since both 2nd and 3rd enter the Conference League, and with 2nd only earning a bit more in prize money, I let the kids face our rivals in the league match, just days before the cup final.

Their 7-0 loss was to have no detriment on our first XI, as they went out in the cup final and brought home the goods, with an early goal in each half.

Wasn't how I wanted the league to go, but the target in Israel was always to win the cup first and foremost (just don't tell the board that).

A summer with Mexico to follow. Have two different cups to play for, in two different continent's tournaments! Exciting times.

POST 39: A Mexican Summer

A bit of a weird summer awaits. Start with the NA Nations League finals, and then we, together with USA, travel to Paraguay to take part in the Copa America.

Is this going to be another lucky break in our career? We are currently ranked 6th in the world, the best side on paper at the Copa America...

After beating Canada in our semi final, was surprised to find that USA had lost to Jamaica in the other one, and that we would be taking on the Reggae Boyz in the final.

Things looked positive when they lost a defender to a red card inside the first 10 minutes, and that was pretty much game over. We converted a penalty shortly after, and Jesus Perez had a hattrick after just 22 minutes.

We were 5-0 up at half time.

image.thumb.png.a1cea34bf15d68b13c863f79885958b7.png

Not the most competitive of finals, but our first piece of silverware for the summer. Can we add to it?

We were the confident heading into the Copa America and things went well in the group stage.

Started by seeing off Venezuela, winning 3-1, before demolishing whipping boys Bolivia 5-0. Came from behind to beat Argentina 3-2, before a controlled 1-0 win over Uruguay. Ended with a 0-0 draw with Chile, where rotated the side having sealed top spot already.

image.png.66cbb8bd791580e44e69e61c5ca710ba.png

Had a week off before the knockouts, so we were all refreshed and ready to march our way to the tile (hopefully).

But things never seem to go the way they are meant to. Were comfortably the better side throughout the match, with all the decent chances falling our way. But it took a late penalty to actually get the ball in the back of the net, and to book our place in the semi finals.

image.thumb.png.0553f498cf4a0696967416e1da14b3c1.png

Not too sure what happened. We just never got going. Attackers were all having off days, but luckily the defence held us together - in fact, their goal only came from the spot (which explains the xG).

Ended up winning on penalties, after Everton defender Cristiano Ronaldo missed from 12 yards.

image.png.9883b6bf8fa43ab00d448a9f85bfaf33.png

Ended up playing Colombia in the final, after they beat the other guest team, USA, in the other semi final.

Went 1-0 down straight after half time, before hitting back immediately.

Then scored 2 goals to basically seal it. And they scored a consolation goal with virtually the last kick of the game.

image.thumb.png.cdd54eabdd27e790d5f5db98634944b8.png

But that's it. We have done it.

image.thumb.png.31fce6ebeb6d8f2687da1afd21017c05.png

Mexico's second Copa America title, having won it in 2024, as well as this being the 4th time they reached the final in the last 6 editions of the tournament.

And how weird, to have won the 5 national continental tournaments with just 4 different countries!

But that just leaves us needing one last domestic cup title.

And the most important bit, is that we're up to #4 in the Worldwide HOF. Not sure will make it to #1 by the time I retire from this save. Especially not with Julian Nagelsmann ahead of me. The man is still at Bayern Munich, having taken over way back in 2020! I've managed 16 teams in that time!

image.png.5f504829d988a9d9e339b6f0ef448621.png

Still at Hapoel Haifa for now as no good jobs have become available, but will move as soon as I can.

On the home stretch now!

Tanjong Pagar 2021 & 2022

Our first season was pretty much just to feel our way into the job, 6 games in total, 3 in the league to end the season and then 3 in the group stage of the cup where we were unceremoniously dumped out.

A summer of change as a couple of our better foreign players decided to move to pastures new and I set about replacing them where possible with Singaporean players to aid the squad registration rules (max 4 foreign players, 1 of which must be Asian) and felt I did an decent enough job although we were also limited significantly by our budget – though that was on par with most of the rest of the league.

We had a pretty good season all told, though Lion City Sailors were comfortably the best team in the league, the PSG of the Singaporean league I would say. Though midway through the season they did sell their best two players (for a combined total of £3m which is much higher than what anyone else in the league would be able to demand). They were the team who dealt us 3 of our 4 defeats in the league which ultimately ended with us finishing second.

The cup, on the other hand, was a huge success. We topped our group winning 2 and drawing 1 of our games but that didn’t spare us facing none other than LC Sailors in the semi-final. We did much better this time out though beating them 3-0 in the home leg which was quite the surprise considering their dominance in the league. We did draw away but the first leg was enough for us to secure a place in the final of the cup. The cup final was actually relatively straightforward as we won 2-0 to tick off the first trophy of the challenge.

image.png.9b239ba3cf9db170292494f8c7bec825.png

I have so far turned down the advances of the board to extend my contract which expires this summer, and winning the cup probably makes me more likely to leave this off season. I do not see any chance we can usurp LC Sailors without 2 or 3 seasons to do so. I think I may try to stay within Asia, but I shall see what jobs become available to me.

Key Player

Harry BirstwistleOn loan from Wolves Birstwistle had a fantastic season for the club. 7.49 average rating in the league from right back. I managed to extend his loan so he will be with the team going into the new season which is a big positive.

Top Scorer

Ilhan FandiBrought in on a free this summer the young Singaporean had an ok season with 8 goals in the league and 9 in total, but was far from prolific.

--- EDIT --

We did end up resigning from our post (we had about a month left on our deal) and we've ended up in England with Curzon Ashton. I think I maybe have jumped to quickly for a new job, but I'm hopeful that this will let me have a decent springboard due to the deep pyramid in England, we've 6 months to see out a relegation battle if I fail in which, I'll be sacked as there isn't a below playable league.

Atletico Madrid 2037/38

Competitions

Overview

La Liga - League Table    Results 1    Results 2

We finally done it. Real Madrid have been an absolute nightmare for me. Last season they nicked the title on the final day but this season we went into game 38 level on points again. The difference was we had the head 2 head advantage and just needed a win to seal the title. In the end they only managed a draw and we romped home to finally seal the league title. It was a tough season with Barcelona being the pace setters and remaining unbeaten for 27 games before tailing off. We had a wobble at the end of November/start of December but managed to pull through.

Copa Del Rey - Results

A easy run until the final where we faced Real Madrid again. But this time we had the edge and managed to win 2-1.

Champions League - Results

Another great run to the final but we fell short for the 2nd season in a row. 1-1 after ET the game went to penalties and we were awful to put it simply.

Suppercoppa - Results

Club World Cup - Results

This technically was last season but we didn't win it. The timing is weird with players unfit or on international duty but someone has to win it still.

Playing Squad

Squad    Transfers

The squad is class, great players mixed with fantastic youngsters and has the potential to dominate for years to come. Key men this season were:

Nicolas Mionnet (AMC) - Signed 3 seasons ago for £28m he has really grown into a star. Was at his creative best this season with 8 goals and 20 assists in 40 starts.

Angel Angulo (ST) - The young Spaniard is going to be an absolute beast in a few seasons. Has been back up to our main striker but always does his job. 18 goals in 24 starts this season.

Jose Sanchez (RW) - The Columbian right winger is so important. You will see he only started 22 games this season because he broke his leg on the opening day. As soon as he was back to fitness he was in the side and 9 goals and 10 assists shows how good he is.

Next Season

I am walking away from Spain. The league and cup double is in the bag and I would just be staying to try and win the Champions League. I am hoping a big job comes up so I can get a couple easy titles. (Bayern and Psg) would be ideal as my last 2 clubs I've chose to compete against dominant sides and a easy season or 2 would be nice,

I have the 2038 World Cup this summer with England and I am hoping to really give that a good go as we have a seriously talented squad packed with world class players. I will do a separate update for that and also will add my hall of fame players into this post soon.

Hall Of Fame

Cape Town Spurs

Ibrahim N'Goran (AML) - was only with us for one season before moving on, but what a season it was. He was the main man as we managed to win a first DSTV Prem title.

Romuald Traore (AMR) - Another player who I managed for just the one season. But with N'Goran moving on, he made up for the goals and assists loss to lead us to a league and Champions League double.

Brandon Peterson (GK) - Signed on a free at the start of our first season in the Prem, he went on to make 144 appearances in total and was a mainstay as we conquered Africa.

Neil Zondi 22a (ST) -  Part of first youth intake, he went on to become our main goal threat. He scored 63 goals in 93 games in all competitions.

Tigres UANL

Aldair Benitez (CM) - Only been in charge of him 6 months but this kid can go on to be something very special. Will look to resign him at some point in the future.

Dejan Joveljic (ST) - Was here when I arrived and has been sensational up top. 37 goals in 36 games meant he was a key part of our treble winning team.

William Ramos  (AMC) - The American was one of our first signings at the club. 9 goals and 20 assists in 52 games doesn't justify just how important he was to us.

Miguel Rodriguez (CB) - Another player who was only with us 6 months. But the big centre back deserves his place, an average rating of 8.09 and 10 goals from 21 games is superb returns.

Guangzhou

Ibrahim N'goran (AML) - He was sensational for me at Cape Town and he has been on another planet ever since bringing him to Guangzhou. 85 goals alongside 69 assists in just 76 games is unreal.

Zhan Zhiqiang (ST) - Another player who's goal return has been spectacular. Signed for 1.8m the Chinese striker has hit 92 goals in 78 games.

Lee Tae-Suk (LB) - Wing backs are a vital part of my tactical system and the South Korean has played the role to perfection. 40 games and 17 assists is a nice return.

Neil Vargas (CB) - The American CB was one of the first players I signed as when I took over the side had no quality in defence at all. Alongside Tae-Suk, Vargas has been a major part of a defence that has broken records. we conceded 8 goals in 34 league games last season and at one point kept 14 consecutive shut outs with Vargas playing a key role.

Corinthians

Tafael (AMR) - Was a key player from the day I arrived, Scoring 60 and getting 34 assists in 92 games.

Jose Campos (RB) - The 16 year old played over 40 games for me and was brilliant.

Cristiano Moraes (ST) -  Signed at the start of the second season for £6.25m he proved an absolute steal as he scored 44 goals in 60 games.

Feyenoord

Marko Culum (ST) - The striker was at the club when I arrived and instantly became a key player notching 99 goals and 20 assists in 115 games.

Mohamed Amine Belhajjam (GK - The GK was signed from Ajax just days after I arrived and proved a solid foundation of the teams progress. He averaged a clean sheet every other game over 3 seasons playing 98 missing just 4.

Ruben Mesquita (CB) - Was at the club when I arrived and proved to be a class act at CB or CM. Almost left after my first season but I managed to convince him to stay and he has been happy since.

Louis Hughes (AMC) - Another player who was at the club when I arrived and has been sensational for me. Has filled in at AMR and ST when needed and always done a solid job.

Atletico Madrid

Djoukalou Fofana (CB - The Spanish Centre back has been a mainstay of my time in charge. In my 3 full seasons he started 98 league games and averaged a 7.75 over them games, and also chipped in with 31 goals.

Daniele Greco (GK) - The American GK has been another mainstay of my side. Only missed 4 league games of my time in charge and I could make a highlight reel of some of the saves me makes.

Gabriel Munoz (CM) - Another player who was her when I arrived. He was part of 4 players on over £500k a week at the time and he was the only one I didnt get rid of. Proved a good decision as he has been excellent year on year.

Mauro Sanchez (ST) - The Mexican striker was the only one of these 4 I signed and he proved an absolute hit in Spain. 96 league goals from 120 games.

Curzon Ashton 2022/23

I was not really planning on having a seasonal update for this season with Curzon Ashton as I only took charge midway through the season with us lying just outside the relegation zone, but not one of the big favourites to be relegated. So in spite the team in bad form hence the change of manager the morale was actually pretty good.

We hit the ground running and shot up the league even if we were lacking a consistent goalscorer. Most of the season was spent around midtable with us slowly but surely closing the gap on the playoff positions. We maintained the form through the season and with 2 games to go we were actually in the pole position sitting in 7th place. Unfortunately we lost one and won one of the two remaining games which ultimately saw us miss out on the playoffs by a single point.

image.png.a05a36f941a1a17ea161c3123fc898e0.png

Next season I’m actually going to try and aim to win the league – the form since I took over extrapolated over a full season would actually see us comfortably winning the league. Alas, as is usually the case in the lower leagues, the summer will also see a big squad overhaul as the majority of players are just on one year contracts and many probably not worth an extension.

Key Player

Jordan RichardsI am having a lot of luck with right backs performing very well – Richards consistently being the best player in any given game. Some of his goals and assists will have been prior to me taking charge but I feel most were since 5 goals and 7 assists. He’s contracted to another season which I’m happy with.

Top Scorer

Jay RollinsSince I’ve started this save I’ve not really been blessed with prolific goalscorers, Rollins got the most for us this season with 10 but he was the penalty taker (albeit he did miss half of them)

POST 40: I Know Portuguese

Still at Hapoel Haifa, waiting for the right job to become available. Making more leagues playable hasn't really helped as it takes time for jobs to open up in the new countries.

Although I was enjoying our time in the Europa Conference League (we won our group), we were struggling a bit in the league (as I hadn't recruited so well as I was really just waiting to move) and were in 6th in mid-December.

And then I found the job I was waiting for, and we were off, sailing down the Med to our new job...

image.png.01589b8a107f6ddee6e7c74c0e9c895b.png

...and, hopefully, we will finish up this challenge and our career at Braga, in Portugal.

Not one of the big 3, but with enough going for them that a cup win is definitely on the cards.

In the league they are just 4 points behind the leaders as we approach the halfway point of the season.

image.png.76f5b89d48f0de01b87365ae79b5d842.png

And they are also still in Europe, having finished 2nd (just) in their Europa League group.

image.png.c9e3128d1b3b4163628bf87dfee981f2.png

And they are still in both of the domestic cups (although I think only 1 counts for this challenge, as the other only for the top 2 leagues).

The team also basically has the personnel to fit my favoured Direct Counter Attacking football, and the January transfer window is just around the corner to bring in the reinforcements to shore things up.

Braga were in the Quarters when we joined in the league cup, and we got them to the final, before being outclassed by Porto. Slightly disappointing, but motivating heading into the second half of the campaign.

image.thumb.png.8663e1c3c35bbbb5a7201e0ca3694be3.png

The Europa League was a disappointment, being dumped out straight away by Celtic, losing the second leg having been held to a draw in the first.

image.thumb.png.47b4700b61e21c843bc024eb19abd20c.png

As Vitoria faded in the second half of the year, Sporting were the team hunting us down for that final Champions League spot. The team who sacked their manager in November whilst underperforming and brought in Braga's manager to rejuvenate them, freeing up the job I now have, were looking like overhauling us. But a clutch 2-0 win in Lisbon helped us stay ahead, and improved our goal difference over theirs, and ultimately we managed to hang on and finish a respectable 3rd, and not too far behind Porto and Benfica either.

image.png.0a4701f2b636f151c223b2a2303ccefe.png

And in the other cup, we also made it to the final.

But after dominating the game, Sporting held us, took us to penalties, and then beat us, to lift the trophy and get revenge for us taking their coveted spot in the Champions League for next season.

image.thumb.png.dd9793fad8c6989fec8663800edc99bf.png

In the summer, we headed to the Gold Cup with Mexico.

With such disparity in CONCACAF, the group was a formality. We scored 10 goals in 2 matches and finished with a goal difference of +22.

image.thumb.png.0be135172a254472821744cdfccf45de.png

Wins over Costa Rica, another one sided showing, and Canada, and we are into another final with Mexico, our third in two summers.

image.thumb.png.9d4825b1a1b0a02b7c1c4555f0243d9d.png

image.thumb.png.a6ab98884bc6c6639f50e5c1690ae4f2.png

Up against our rivals USA once more (typical of the Gold Cup for these two nations to meet in the final), we dominated the game. Didn't quite take our chances (strange to have got to this from all those goals earlier in the tournament), but a penalty was what got us a goal, and our hands back on the Gold Cup.

image.thumb.png.9f36ed3fe361e73f148bffedaf234e86.png

image.thumb.png.5d9d3071094eef565697a38e4e6fbc64.png

Having not even made the final 4 years ago, the Copa America champions have their hands back on the coveted Gold Cup trophy!

Now back to our day job, and securing this cup win with Braga. Brought in a couple of new recruits, and the odds from the media between the best teams in Portugal are all more or less the same. Going to be a fun year ahead.

World Cup 2038

Group Stage

Spoiler

Drawn in Group B alongside Columbia and Algeria it could have been a tricky time. The 1-0 win over Columbia was a tight game that we edged but the Algeria game proved easy as we thumped them 5-1.

Second Round

Spoiler

In the 2nd round we faced Australia and we went in confident and rolled them over 5-0.

Third Round

Spoiler

In the 3rd round we faced China surprisingly, who had just beaten Germany 1-0 in the last round. They proved just as stubborn as we needed ET to see them off 2-1.

Quarter Finals

Spoiler

In the last 8 we faced Chile who we played and beat 1-0 in a warm up game a few weeks back. This time it was a much easier game as we struggled to miss when presented a chance and romped home 7-1.

Semi Finals

Spoiler

In the last 4 we faced a fantastic France side and I thought this is where we would come unstuck. A messy 1-1 draw after 90 mins meant extra time and we just about edged it 2-1 to get to the final.

Final

Spoiler

In the final we faced Spain. I know all about the depth and quality of this side and couldn't believe it when we went 2-0 up on the stroke of half time. The second half was a completely different affair as we just stopped playing and faced a bombardment of Spanish attacks which we couldn't cope with. A 84th min strike by Pedri put them 3-2 up and sealed it for Spain. A gutting way to lose a World Cup final but the FA's aim was the last 8 so we wont be getting sacked and I am more than happy come back in 4 years time and try again.

Results    Tree    Squad

I wont be walking away from England any time soon. Its the end of an era as far as Bellingham, Saka, James's generation etc are concerned and with some really good young players coming through its time to start building a new squad for the next Euros in 2 years time. Club wise I have applied for the Monaco job. They aint PSG but only finished 3 points behind them this season and won the title last season so clearly possess a talented side I could maybe challenge with. I may just hold back for 6 months though and see what happens. Psg still have Poch in charge and Bayern still have Nagelsmann in charge which is crazy when you consider its been 17 years in game. My current plan is to finish the challenge in England with my beloved Charlton Athletic so the only 3 places in really looking for a job are Germany, Italy and France atm.

Just a quick update, I haven't really been following this thread lately, but I have still be playing my challenge. I have now reached my furthest point in game ever, and have also completed more of the trophies in this challenge then ever before.

2042_Trophies.PNG.6d2d9594d911083f937dc3ae6760b170.PNG

I've been hoping to complete the big 5 European leagues and the UCL before moving on to the remaining Continental club cups, but PSG's manager has been there for 15 years and has won the damn league every time. I've returned to Inter Milan in an effort to win the UCL and if the PSG job comes up after that I'll take it, if not I'll move to Australia or South Korea and start the Asian leg of my journey as it's the only International trophy I need to collect.

UPDATE

I managed to win the UCL with Inter, along with another Scudetto and Copa Italia along the way. I'll hang with Inter for another 6 months while I await the CWC. In the meantime Australia won the Asian cup so I don't see myself picking up that job, but a miserable showing by the South Koreans left that job open and I've taken it. 4 years is a long time to wait, but it's the final international trophy I need.

New Job

Appointment     Transfers

I was planning on waiting a while before taking a new club job but Zidane resigned to take the France job after the World Cup and I applied just curious of the budgets etc. When I saw the transfer budget was £268m I was sold. And on 29/07/2038 we was appointment manager.

We have wasted no time in spending a big chunk of the money either, raiding old club Atletico for 3 players as well as signing a couple of others. Ironically I didn't sign Parra, but he is my old RB from Feyenoord which means along with N'goran, Ca and the 3 signings from Atletico, we have 6 players in the Squad I have managed previously. I have a couple more deals lined up also and am hopeful of given Bayern a run for their money. We faced them just 4 days after being hired in the DFL - Supercup and it was a tight 1-1 draw even though we had 10 men for almost a full half. We lost on penalties but its given me hope for the season ahead.

We're on the move again, the 3rd club in as many seasons. I was happy with my position at Curzon Ashton, however, in non-league terms the difference between Curzon Ashton and my new club in AFC Fylde is night and day in terms of pure resources. It is a huge risk though as they want me to win the league despite them currently being positioned in 23rd in the Vanarama National League. I am hoping that if I put in a good showing, even if we don't win the league (I very much doubt we will) I will still be able to keep my job and push on next season with enough money behind me to comfortably mount a title challenge. My Curzon Ashton side had just reached the first round of the FA Cup and were hovering around the playoff positions in the league below where I am now so we were having a decent enough season even if a little unspectacular.

WELP

In the first year of my career I was able to latch on with Ghana and Qingdao Jonoon (Chinese 2nd Tier). With Ghana, we were able to have a dominating run through the Cup of Nations by winning every single match (7-0-0) with a goal differential of +11.

image.png.374e2fd1f247a3954956500f5bdd09e7.png

In China, I was not so lucky. QD Jonoon was a recently promoted side and did not have a particularly impressive roster. While I was able to find a number of free agents that would have juiced my squad up nicely, the Chinese transfer windows are the only time you can make any signings, period. I had to wait until the summer window to get the free transfers in and my board ended up firing me on 6/18, just five months into my tenure, after getting 16 points in 18 games. Joke's on them though, I was able to squeeze a National C license out of them and am already on my way to my National B license. When I initially asked for the National B license, they said they were worried that if I got my next license I would leave them. I guess they were kind of correct.

Season 2036 / 37 - Real Madrid

Ended up taking the easy way out and accepted the Real Madrid job instead of trying again with Lazio. It was somewhat justified as I had a 10 point gap after just 14 games and it looked as if Barcelona would struggle this year.  We ended up winning the league with 7 games to spare. We won both el classicos 4 - 2 and 4 - 1.

The Spanish Cup was just as easy as the league. Our toughest game was against a second division team Lagrones as we played our second string side. Really did one over Barca this year.1656100111_2022-03-29(1).png.dabf1c5cce1b7e909c675fedb7cbb119.png

Going into the Champions League as the holders, we were paired up with last year's finalist (and my last managerial role) Lazio along with AEK and Sporting.  3 wins and 3 draws was enough to land us first spot however we were paired up against PSG who finished second in their group to Man City. First game away we were down 2 - 0 after 17 minutes. After throwing a water bottle at half time, we managed to get an away goal and go into the home leg down 2 - 1.  Smashed them at home 5 - 1. Up next Chelsea who were third in the premier league. First game away again, we came from behind twice to lead 3 - 2 however conceded an equaliser in the last minute. Was confident on the return leg at home after destroying PSG however we simply didnt turn up and lost 2 - 0.  Very disappointing!

Club World Championship kicked off in June and our group was Flamengo and Al-Hilal. Barely had any players available and had to start a number of greyed out players along with some juniors against Flamengo.  We fought back from being 3 - 0 down to bring it back to 3 - 2 but just didnt have enough talent at our disposal.  Beat Al-Hilal 7 - 0 as my starting team had returned from international duty.  Out we go in the group stage!!

Next season has starting early, as Gabriel Milano decided to retire as the manager of Juve after 16 years at the helm. You're now looking at the new manager of Juve (please dont scroll up to where i said 'I hate Juve').  And guess what, we are still in the Club World Championships :brock:

In my final season in Brazil I tried to attempt a new tactic which backfired, I enjoyed the way my team played using it though so I decided to persevere. We managed to finish the final 16 games of the league season unbeaten with our only loss coming in the Nedbank Cup to the league leaders at the time. I'm encouraged by what I've seen and with the right additions I think we can push for a title challenge next season. We also went on to with the CAF Confederation Cup, which we mostly used our back up players in, I'm assuming South Africa is quite strong compared the the rest of the continent.

I was able to pick up a job with HLJ Ice City, also in the second tier of China, after getting unceremoniously fired from Qindao Jonoon. I took over the team in 12th place and 21 points to finish at a respectable 7th place and a record-setting 55 points. I take no pleasure in reporting that Qingdao Jonoon only gained 8 more points in 16 games after firing me. This dropped them from 16th, outside the relegation zone, straight to the automatic relegation. A real shame.

AFC Fylde 2023/2024

We took over AFC Fylde with them sat second bottom with 11 points from their opening 15 games, I do not know what their previous manager was doing as they were already league favourites and still had a spare £15k p/w to spend – which is higher than many clubs at this levels starting budget.

The squad in fairness was lacking overall balance which I went about rectifying, but the team showed why they were the league favourites as they powered up the league winning the vast majority of our games. We were, however about 30 points down on the team at the top when we started our run (the position I promised the board we’d get).

Thankfully we never really let up in our dominance, we did lose a game or two through the season and drew a few others but top of the table Notts County were faultering somewhat, they were fantastic the first half of the season but were falling off and we were edging closer and higher up the league. This season had some parallels to last season with Curzon Ashton, on hot form and then with 3 games to go get into the position we wanted (last season was 7th for playoffs this top sot) with just two games left to play. We missed out with Curzon Ashton so I didn’t want that to happen again and with a home game against a team low down in the league I was confident we would at least keep top spot for the last game.

I was wrong, we were comfortably leading 1-0 (or as comfortable as you can be with a 1 goal lead) with the game drawing to a close before our centre back decided, completely unmarked, to attempt a diving header back to the goalkeeper who had to react to prevent it being an own goal only for the ball to fall to an onrushing opponent as they equalised leaving us 2 points behind first placed Aldershot with just one game to play – away against none other than Aldershot.

My players did their best to bottle it, we created so many chances but they just did not hit the target even where they really aught to – thankfully this was after we had taken the lead from a 16th minute corner. But as with last game I didn’t want to be holding on to a 1-0 scoreline against another team who were in great form. Thankfully we managed it and secured the title on the last day – a colossal turnaround from where we started and frankly I am surprised Notts County didn’t win the league and in the end only finished 3rd, they were 16 and 25 points ahead of Aldershot and us respectively at the half way stage of the competition yet managed to capitulate so much to finish 4 points from the title.

Next season my main task will be to stabilise AFC Fylde as a football league club hopefully with the club letting me go on coaching courses all the while. I will never say never, but I think I will keep on at Fylde for the whole of next season instead of finding my 4th club in as many years.

Key Player

Nick HaughtonA sensational season for Haughton who played every time he was available for me in the heart of midfield. He managed to accrue 5 goals and 17 assists in our title charge which is a good showing.

Top Scorer

Jahmari ClarkeMy first striker that could be argued as prolific, 23 goals for us in the league playing up front in a 2. His main strike partner did manage 17 goals so he was a little ahead of him really.

We managed to continue our great start last season at Cape Town City. We went on and done a clean sweep domestically and in Europe, which is no major surprise with the form we had last year only losing one of my games in charge and I'd managed to improve the squad quite well since then too. South Africa seems a little too easy to me but I'm not complaining this challenge is officially up and running. I'm hoping the CAF Champions League is just as easy as the CAF Confederation Cup. My only focus this year will be on the Champions League so I can complete this leg of the challenge and then move on to Asia or North America.

POST 41: Over and Out

Back for another shot at winning this cup final.

Had a really dramatic semi final in the other cup though. We were 2-1 down after 50 minutes, and when pushing for an equaliser, conceded again with just 2 minutes left. Pulled one goal back in the 92nd minute, and won a penalty in the 96th. But we missed it.......and then scored the rebound! The game went straight to penalties, and we won that, to make the final.

image.png.55c0a9341ffd80c7815324ea034e5c9d.png

Where we once again lost to Sporting.

image.png.07753157535bc38ab8038d82f12b8309.png

Once again we finished the league behind Benfica and Porto, and although the gaps were quite large, we were also 11 points ahead of Sporting.

image.png.ef1ca5efff719a7727d864444f5b5cb4.png

Thankfully we weren't up against Sporting in the cup final, just the small task of dominant Benfica instead. We started really well and had the better chances.

Although we only won on penalties (FM giving me one last minute of torture), we were the better side and did deserve the win.

image.thumb.png.cc8334fde016b8c4de247331cd4761ef.png

image.thumb.png.576ed4b54bc8e2f4df2fc42c91d73d76.png

And that is #32!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disappointed that don't also end the save as #1 in the HOF, but Allegri had a long dominant spell at Man City, and Nagelsmann is still in charge of Bayern.

Will play on through World Cup 2046 with Mexico as we qualified for that, but will be retiring after that.

Tried this pretty much every year, but always lose interest due to going the same route every time. This time I'm going to try and avoid lower leagues in Asia. Also, I am a man of few words, so screenshots will mostly do with a brief comment on each part.

PART 1: ACS Petrolul 52

I ended up getting my first job in November, with ACS Petrolul who were predicted to win the league but were struggling down in 10th.  We'd already been knocked out the cup, so only the league to focus on.

Season 2037/38 - Juventus

One of my most dominant seasons in FM ever. This team was stacked with the best strikers in the world so slightly changed my formation to suit playing two strikers. Only the one loss to former team Lazio away in the league at round 25 or so. Cursing as i really wanted an invincible season! Juve have been super dominant in my save, only not winning the league twice.

We defended our Champions League title quite comfortably. The two legs against Bayern was not as close as it looks, we won 1 - 0 at home first up, then had a 3 - 0 lead in Munich before I rested some players which we ended up drawing 3 - 3.

Ive resigned as manager of Juve which hopefully kicks off a merry go round of appointments and will look to go to either England, Germany or France next.

Its World Cup year and we are ranked 14th in the world with South Korea, but dont really give us much chance, our defence is a bit thin.  We also have Asian Cup in Jan next year, been waiting four years for this.

I will never say never, but I think I will keep on at Fylde for the whole of next season instead of finding my 4th club in as many years.

Things are going well at Fylde, we're comfortably top of the league and heading for our second consecutive promotion, but, I am yet again on the move. I did actually have a few clubs come through and offer me interviews including the club marooned at the bottom of the league we're in (yeah, no thanks). But, we are going to be taking a two league step up to Coventry who have a tycoon owner it was really a no brainer to take up the offer.

image.thumb.png.ebf98db3efe08022a44c4995731d5705.png

Coventry are current sat just outside the playoffs in the Championship so we could conceivably manage to get to the premier league by the end of the season. Despite having a tycoon owner we don't have crazy money in transfer budgets but we do allegedly have the best youth system in the world based on the club vision so this could be a very interesting club to work with.

Ended the save with one final World Cup.

Mexico are ranked 4th in the world...

image.png.effe2fc21632300294f044684a800156.png

Played some big countries along the way, including former team, defending champions and world #1 England.

But nice to end the career in style. We controlled every single one of our games during the tournament. This Mexican side was just littered with stars. Was basically just about setting up the team so all the big names were in roles they were comfortable in.

Was also quite cool that the final against Germany was our 1700th game in charge! A coincidence, but a nice way to end things.

image.png.0d5dc3afd9a52d7e22db2dda924de6c8.png

That second World Cup win has bumped us up to 4th in the Worldwide Hall of Fame.

Behind a couple of legends of the save. Massimiliano Allegri, after winning seven Serie A titles, went on to become a legend with Manchester City, winning 11 Premier League and four Champions League titles, before retiring in 2037 (when we took over the team for a short spell). Julian Nagelsmann has been Bayern Munich manager since 2020, helping them to 20 Bundesliga,  13 DFB Pokal and three Champions League titles! And Pep Guardiola has been on his own journeyman save since leaving Manchester City after the successful league campaign of 2023, leading Juventus to three league, cup and supercup trebles, Atletico Madrid to Champions League glory, and both Wolfsburg and Dortmund to Europa Conference League success!

None of that compares to us managing 17 different teams, but we're still over 1000 points behind Allegri's total. Maybe one day I'll come back and try ascend the last few rungs of this ladder.

image.png.1984e4e9ff82aee5968f92d1bbaa04b1.png

@vikeologist this save has been so much fun, taking me (at least at the beginning) to some places I've never managed before. I really enjoyed this challenge.

Very surprised that I managed to complete it on so few seasons. But imo that's done to starting off switching between summer and winter leagues, so I got through more seasons in the same space of time; plus I didn't always take the first job available, waiting for the big jobs in certain countries (like PSG, Man City) to become available, so I could complete the league in a single season as the team was already challenging or dominating.

Good luck everyone else with your saves.

Asian Cup 2039 - South Korea

Second attempt to with the Asian Cup with South Korea.  Feels like an eternity between competitions and really need to get a move on, on the international competitions. The World Cup came and went, we were never really going to challenge the pointy end but was hoping we did enough to keep my job and that we did.  We ended up getting humiliated by Turkey in the 3rd round 4 - 1 but making the 3rd round was the countries expectation.

Our group contained of Japan, Vietnam and Singapore. We won those games 3 - 0, 7 - 0 and 5 - 0 respectively. That had us playing UAE in the second round

Second Round

Spoiler

we beat UAE 3 - 0. We now face Iran in the quarters

Quarter Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

beat Iran 4 - 0 which means we play our toughest Asian rival in Australia in the semis.

Semi Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

1 - 1 after 90 minutes in a game we totally dominated. Really didnt want to go into pot luck penalties so went a little bit more attacking for extra time which paid off as we managed to score twice to win 3 -1.  That puts us against home nation China!

Final (if applicable)

Spoiler

smashed them 5 - 0!!

Quick update on the league front, the club manager merry go round kicked off after i left Juve, the Liverpool job popped up but couldnt apply as the process was apparently already closed. They ended up taking Pep from Dortmund so I landed the Dortmund gig. After 22 games, we're 4 points ahead of Bayern and 8 points clear of third.  We've done the double over Bayern which pretty much has us ahead, they are very consistent as you can imagine.

Guys I shall be returning to this thread as I have decided to restart this challenge. My previous effort stalled but to be fair I’ve lost interest in the game over the last few months. I’m excited to return to here though and I’ll be starting my new journey later on today when I’m home from work.

Good luck with your new start. You've been a big part of the challenge the last few years, so I hope you'll b back on the leader board soon on your way to the HoF.

I'll try to figure out who else on the leader board has been inactive for 3 months. It would be a lot easier if I linked to their profiles wen adding people to the leader board.

OK- That pruning turned out to be a bit brutal, but if anybody comes back, that would go straight back on, (if they say how many trophies they have).

Season 2038/39 - Borussia Dortmund

A league double against Bayern really helped guide us to the title, only Dortmund's 4th since the start of the save. Was a great fight till the last day which by all accounts Bayern needed to make up 50+ goals and for us to lose.

1868426775_2022-04-04(1).png.a1a91b85e90945aab88eac00c7bca9f0.png

In the cup we were cruising up until the semi final where we faced Hoffenheim away. We scored early but then were pegged back immediately. We couldnt find another goal so the match went to penalties where we missed the 4th and 5th pens lose.  They went on to win the final against Bayern.

Champions League we made it to the Quarters and were knocked out by Man City.

After winning the league, i resigned in the hope to kick off another merry go round for manager positions.  It worked and im now the manager of Chelsea in the middle of June.  They finished 4th and arent as cashed up as what they once were so it will be a nice challenge.

This guy was simply amazing for us, 54 goals from 44 starts!

Part 2: ACS Petrolul 52

A season where the board wanted us to fight bravely against relegation went much better than first thought. We were close to getting in the championship group, only 3 points behind 6th, who ended up winning the whole league!1166878758_season2.thumb.png.a2857b25585c20843363d55767758a64.png

Although we finished one place above relegation we were much better throughout the season. A poor end made us look closer to relegation than we ever were.

Relegation.thumb.png.31ef3c6275b6f3adcff5fa3aa8b483f6.png

I really fancied us to do well in the cup but we ended up getting eliminated by Cluj (in a game where we dominated).

As you might be able to see from the first screenshot, we have left our first club, moving over to FCSB! A big move and a big gamble for the club, I'm feeling quite lucky to get this role but hopefully we don't bottle it under the pressure!

It's been two long seasons since the last update. The 2023 season was my first full season with HLJ Ice City and it resulted in a league title and automatic promotion to the Chinese Super League. We also set the league points and league wins records. I gathered two Manager of the Month awards along with the Manager of the Year award. The next season, over 26 games, I was able to get HLJ within striking distance of the Champions League at 6th place and 4 points trailing. At that point, though, the LA Galaxy job opened up surprisingly in the MLS. The Galaxy are a club with very high expectations and a season of getting bumped out of the League Cup in the quarterfinals, flirting with missing the playoffs, and barely being in the top half of the Supporters' Shield apparently was enough for LA to send the coach on his way. I was offered the job with eight games left in the season, along with two CONCACAF group stage games, to get the team back in a respectable place. The beginning was rough after three games without a win but the rest of the season fell right into place. After getting into the playoffs, we rattled off four straight wins to secure the MLS Cup and notching the first of my domestic trophy requirements. Huzzah! We also were able to move into the qualification spots for the CONCACAF Champions League tournament.

Going into 2025, the goal will be to show out in the US Open Cup as well as make a good account of ourselves in the CCL. The biggest need is to find a striker to replace my winger at the 9 spot and sorting out the team's salary cap situation to allow for the acquisition.

So another good year in South Africa we had an unbeaten league season, I can't remember the last time or if I've ever done that so I'll take it! We went unbeaten in the Champions League too to finish off this leg of our journey quite comfortably. In our domestic competitions we done extremely poorly but thankfully we won both of those last season. I had a lot of job interview offers during this season, one that I was excited by was Marseille who offered me the job but there was no option to take it at the end of the season, so sadly had to turn that down, hoping it comes up again. For my next step I'll be looking to North America or China before going to Europe I think.

TIGRES UANL - 2030

Club Overview ~ Squad Overview ~ Finances

So after my Champions League win in South Africa, Tigres UANL approached me to take over their club. I had an offer from Cruz Azul as well but looking at this squad with Luka Jovic, Diego Lainez just to name a couple I felt this would be a better squad even if they are approaching the other side of 30. Another job I almost held out for was Premier League Champions Man City as their manager had retired straight after the season, but as mentioned before didn't quite want to head to Europe just yet.

I'm intending on taking up this challenge but was going to wait till the first club job and the season before posting. However, I've got offered the Ghana job practically instantly but I'm a little... puzzled? I've set everything up as per the rules so I'm not entirely surely why I've got offered a job that big this early. I've tested this a couple of times but seem to always get the job.

I'd take it a few people have taken the Ghana job quite early on, I got the Ivory Coast job within a few years too. I've also had international tournaments get completed where no jobs become available after so I'd take what you can while you can.

Honestly up to you. Not against the rules (or in my opinion the spirit) of the challenge to exploit bugs, which I guess you could consider this to be.  I mean, you'll probably be the victim of bugs at some point.

I know some people choose not to take 'unrealistic' jobs, because it would spoil their enjoyment of the game, and that's what it boils down to. If taking the job will make you enjoy the challenge less, don't take it.

But don;t feel bad if you do. (You could always appease your conscience, such as it is by flagging it as a bug on the forum.

Ultimate Challenge: The Beginning

My hopes of jumping straight into the managerial bandwagon didn’t come to a fruition as despite attending an interview with Polokwane City I would have to wait until the beginning of 2022 before I would put pen to paper on a contract. The season in South Africa got underway and I would have to wait until 4th January before I was finally offered a managerial position. Below is my opening profile though proving to all that I am here and abiding with the rules.

After failing to get offers from Uthongathi and Black Leopards I would eventually begin my career with a club I’d never previously managed on FM. I was pretty happy with that though seeing as I had managed both of those clubs in my two previous attempts at this challenge. It will definitely be nice to head somewhere new.

This is a fantastic opportunity for me to take the helm of an ambitious club capable of so much more than they’ve shown so far this season. Pre season expectations of a 2nd placed finish seem a little beyond them but there is definitely no doubt that I have walked into a very exciting prospect with a club performing way below expectations.

818850608_TakeoverTable.png.8d9c00052b92f15b4b95916defdfc763.png

Signing on the dotted line on an eighteen month contract my target here is very simple indeed. I want to see this contract out and ensure that this club are a South African Premier League team by the time my deal expires. Promotion this season may be a little beyond us but I am confident that with a solid campaign I will be able to strengthen the squad for a real push next time around. For now the board want us to finish in the top half and I definitely see no reason why we can’t achieve that. There is plenty of talent on the books and my job is just to get this team performing to a level that they should be. The promotion spots are not a million miles away but we’re going to have to improve from the offing and that may be tricky as the team need to get used to my methods and my tactics.

I’m excited to join a club of this stature and it’s a really intriguing scenario for me to be in. If we get a bright start then I see no reason why we can’t push for a spot in the promotion play off spots, but I would be happy to just lay a platform for next season by achieving the top half finish the board want. Everything I do in my early days will be to prepare for next season though. Anything we may achieve this season would just be a bonus.

FIRST SEASON - 2021/22

I promise I started as unemployed, no coaching badges. I do not have any documentation of this, as when I started, I had initially only intended for the save to be a beta save.

Now going back, I realize that this save had a significant amount of potential (if I could handle the finances well enough) and all steps for setup were followed except, of course, to document it.

Season 3: FCSB

The leap I took turned out to be the right one. After the first month I was worried, I had an F rating for matches and thought I was going to bottle it and be back to square one. However, a massive run in the middle of the season meant that we went into Champions playoff 1st. In the Champions playoff it felt like no team wanted to win, we went on a run of draws but managed to keep Arad off us. We signed some well known players: Jack Hendry (650k), Thierry Ambrose (4.9m all in instalments), Bjorn Engels (loan) and Jelle Bataille (450k). 141924292_Leagues3.thumb.png.bd7fca61dd0794bd194c29f3b2b5e381.png1251904461_CPs3.thumb.png.c4bb3160f6fd8b63f6c7b7300db52a64.png

The cup went well, we edged past FC Rapid 1-0 in ET. The semi was no problem. The final, however caused a big issue. We dominated but a Jack Hendry OG took the game into ET and eventually penalties. It ended up going down to the Keepers, Vlad scored for us then saved the final pen to give us the Cup win. 2 trophies ticked off and a massive rep boost.

In National news, I've taken the Ivory Coast job, we're currently going through WC and AFCON qualifying. To finish this post, I'll leave it on a cliffhanger, I've been offered two new jobs with great teams, but which will I choose

Season 2039/40 - Chelsea

The goal this season was to break Chelsea's duck and win the league along with a domestic cup. It's been 7 years since Chelsea have won the premier league and have only won it twice since the start of my save. The team I inherited was pretty decent but lacked firepower up front after a couple of retirees. Wasnt given a massive transfer budget but had quite a large team so was able to generate some funds.

It was a challenge between ourselves and Liverpool where we took turns in first position however they fell away towards the end losing to some lower teams and managed to seal the title with 2 games to go which were against Pool which we lost and Man City which we drew.

2022-04-08.png.2f2302aa988fba82ba16d5e5dbd55ac3.png

On the domestic cup front we had a sweet run in the Carabao Cup and avoided any of the bigger teams for the whole journey.  We cruised it in:

The FA cup we werent as lucky with the draw however we still managed to win it.

591183600_2022-04-08(1).png.b4d512aecabf76c8d4763cb581a1a3ba.png

In the Champions League we beat Barcelona in the final in penalties to be the second time I've won it now.

On the national front, Mexico beat the US in the Gold Cup and so the American job became vacant so I've decided to take it up.  Not sure ill have the patience to wait four years as im way behind on this front of the challenge. It's Euro's and Copa America on now so will see what happens after that.

Unless the PSG job becomes available I'm going to stick it out with Chelsea as the World Club Championships are on after next season so might build on the current Chelsea team and aim for that.

Jomo Cosmos FC: 2021/22 Review

The early stages of my reign with this club was merely about getting to grips with the players and getting my squad familiarised with my tactics and styles of management. The early signs were good and we started with a promising record of five wins, two draws and just a solitary defeat. Having inherited the team sat in 12th place we found ourselves up to 4th and a mere point adrift of the play off places.

At this stage things seemed to go wrong though and we rather stumbled our way through to the season end. An injury to striker Lucas Fernandez certainly didn’t aid out cause and we managed a much more mediocre run of two victories, one draw and four defeats. That run saw goal scoring become a significant problem and we tumbled down the table to finish in a disappointing 10th place.

2029240953_FinalTable.png.5b90b6e31763f0a4f96566b387f907a0.png

Obviously I’m disappointed with how things ended up but I did see plenty of signs of encouragement. The summer will be spent trying to improve the squad for next season to have a real good crack at trying to win promotion into the top flight. I’ll have to be careful though as money isn’t here in abundance and so I’ll have to have a go at trying to reduce the wage bill whilst managing to improve the quality in the squad. Thankfully a lot of our high earning players are out of contract though and I will be letting the vast majority of them leave the club. This will be a really busy and really important few months for me and my career and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get working.

Jomo Cosmos FC: 2022/23 Review

My first full season in football management has drawn to a close and it’s fair to say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. Even after my appointment midway through last season it was a real disappointing season full of underachievement. This season was all about progress and all I was aiming for was promotion into the top flight. We entered the season predicted to finish in 3rd place behind only the two relegated sides. I made eight new signings and filled the squad with lots of promising talents.

899035746_FinalTableChampions.png.579774b7cbae17dbf9aedb36be9bfe80.png

Summer arrival Taahir Goedeman was a key part of our season after his arrival from Cape Town City on a free transfer. He bagged 18 league goals and was ably assisted by two fellow summer signings. Winger Taariq Whiteman on loan from Maritzburg United and Chumani Butsaka who joined on a free transfer from Cape Town Spurs.

Scoring goals was a significant help but we also made a real improvement defensively. Central defender Keith Groeneveld performed brilliantly after his free transfer arrival from the Free State Stars but it was young goalkeeper Sergio Sardinha who made the biggest defensive impact. He joined after his release from Golden Arrows in the top flight. He conceded just 16 goals and kept an impressive 18 clean sheets across his 30 appearances as we shone our way to the league table.

Winning the league was a fantastic achievement and to be honest was never really in doubt. We started the season well and in fact our worst run of the campaign came in the past three matches after we had already confirmed our status as league winners. Outside of the league we made it through two rounds of the SA Cup before a disappointing loss on penalties to The Magic who at the time were rock bottom of our division.

My contract with this football club is up now though and I have already accepted a new contract with a new club.

934171657_KaizerAppointment.png.33e81b6ad2ff8deb0ec9d0f9e21c9d56.png

It’s a real step up for me and the perfect second setting for my managerial career. Kaizer Chiefs are a massive club in South Africa and it’s a really good opportunity for me to try and pick up some trophies and really push my career on. They really underperformed this season finishing in 6th place and missing out on qualification for continental football. It’s a really exciting proposition for me though and I cannot wait to get started. It’s going to be a busy few months as I look to build a side capable of competing back at the top end of the league table.

It's been a long time since I started this challenge (back in November) but I've finally got my first piece of top flight silverware, winning the Chinese Super League with Sichuan Jiuniu.

It couldn't have been tighter either:

1231526150_Screenshot2022-04-08at16_11_49.thumb.png.4432b7c8025a68ce220ea7c5e3887313.png

Last day of the season shootout, three teams all on 71 points and the head-to-head league (which differentiates teams on the same points in the CSL) was just to my advantage.

It was a shocking game, we were 2-0 down at halftime thanks to a cheap goal and a stupid penalty. We were not at it at all.

The second half wasn't much better, until I completely HAIL MARY'd it all by going from my possession-based game to a 'fling it to the big man up top' and a 4-2-1-3 formation with two advanced forwards and a target man.

By some miracle it worked! After one thunderbolt from my midfield general Zhang Jiaqi (who's been with me since the start), my Brazilian captain (just back from a season wrecking injury) scores a tap in after a sublime cross from my 18 year old Iranian newgen. They then switch roles: Cleiton drawing the keeper and squaring to Parvin for a 92 (of 93) minute tap in.

Cue: delirium, and I think I've dislocated my shoulder from fist pumping too hard!

WHAT A SEASON END. God damn FM I think I've aged a decade today.

But it's not over. The team is shattered but we have an AFC Champions League final in 2 days (!) and a CFA Cup second leg in two weeks (we're 1-0 up after the first leg).

Hopefully I return with good news: I'd really like to be done with this continent, the team selection rules are pretty brutal.

It happened! I think I lost a lot of my nerves... anyway, a fuller report:

Sichuan Jiuniu 2021-2024

It was a really intriguing first club to take on. No money, very restrictive rules, but crucially I started with a couple of absolute gems, which taught me that there were two types of players to help you win in China: free agent high reputation Chinese players, and literally anyone from Europe or South America.

I lost my star striker after I finished 5th in my first season (in the China League One), but picked up Cleiton on a bit of a whim. He had low strength, which didn't suit my style of play, but his finishing and mental stats were superb for a Striker at this level. In 96 appearances he's scored 53 goals and - although he's been a bit patchy at times - he can be relied on to get goals.

After winning League One in my second year, I set my sights on a solid mid table finish in the Chinese Super League (CSL).

This league is very tight, with a lot of teams taking points off each other. I managed to finish 2nd in my first CSL season, although nowhere near the winners Beijing Guoan, who were 10 points clear and had double my goal difference. 10 points separated 2nd from 8th - and I just sneaked into Champions League qualification.

The strong end to that season carried into a strong start for the next season - it was the first season I hadn't had a massive squad overhaul (free transfers galore!) and we were strong from the start. We had long periods at the top, and long periods in third. The whole season was nip and tuck, but it ended up with three teams finishing on 74 points. Because of the mini head-to-head table (see screenshot), I won the league courtesy of one extra draw.

As in my above post, I won the league with a 15minute come from 2-0 down victory - with an 18 year old Iranian getting the 92nd minute winner. He owed me that after squandering countless 1:1s in my multitude of draws!

If that wasn't stressful enough: two days after that exhausting victory, I was a gross underdog in the Asian Champions League final. This competition is weird: even stricter on foreign player rules, I kept having to annoy my best players by leaving them out of the squad.

Under a lot of pressure for much of the match, the writing was on the wall at 1-0 after 62mins. However, a quick fire double in 64 and 72 minutes led us to a 2-1 win.

Then two weeks later, we drew the second leg of our Cup Final 1-1 (after going behind AGAIN), winning the two legs 2-1. Cleiton (who else?) with the winner.

A brutal end to the season, but triumphant!

I love my little Donald Bundy! I also love SC Jiuniu but it's time to go - there's nothing more to win in China.

SCJ have NO resources, so after I'd got my first two badges, that was it. Fortunately the prize money from the Champions League went far enough to get the club to allow me to study for a National A, so this is where we stand:

2021/22 Season Report

Club: NK Dugopolje (Croatia)
Country: N/A

NK Dugopolje - Wikipedia

Appointment

After my first post discussing Ghana, I rejected that and we took over Croatian side NK Dugopolje in the FavBet Druga Liga (step below the top division and the heavyweights) for the season ahead.

League - Cup

League - FavBet Druga Liga:

A somewhat straight forward domestic season saw us lift the title with 2 games remaining, even with the amount of points we managed to pick up. Varazdin matched us punch for punch and were level on points with us with games remaining. Only finishing 2 points ahead is a little flattering to Varazdin as I'd rotated heavily the last 2 games to prepare for the cup.

Cup - Hrvatski Nogometni Kup:

Well. This was a bit unexpected but I feel like what @vikeologist said above is about right and I somewhat belong here now - I've had an awful collapse in a final after a bit of a miracle run to get there in the first place!

image.png.ea25d594887f67e5cf72cf9670da42ee.png

We go 2-0 up, but Dinamo Zagreb pull 2 back before half time. They go 3-2 up just after the break and eventually I had to open up which ended up being the wrong decision and they ended up with a couple more to make it a 5-2 loss there.
