Three days ago I had a disaster and my year old Macbook Air just stopped turning on - its currently with Apple, but I have been told to not expect it back for at least 10 working days. I was enjoying my FM22 save and about to enter my sixth year where i had my team set up perfect, I've been having withdraws ever since and don't want to keep reading people's saves stories on here to crave my appetite for FM :)

While I wait to receive my laptop back I've decided to go and get a laptop to tide me over. Extravagant maybe, but I've got a bit of spare cash, quite a bit of time on my hand this month and desperately want to carry on playing FM22.

Looking for some help to find a Windows laptop around the £500 price tag that will allow me to load between 5-10 leagues and play on 2D - I never play on 3D. I have no real experience of buying windows laptops or machines and keen to be pointed in the right direction of where i can pick one up fairly quickly and if £500 is good enough to buy a machine for what I'm after. I've taken a quick look online, but no idea what is good value.

Appreciate any advice.

I’m rubbish with laptops. Does anyone know if the below would be good enough for 5-8 leagues and a large player database? My budget is about £600

Any responses are appreciated.

I will only be buying it for FM. I won’t be using the 3d match engine too

Would be fine but you may want to compare to new prices as you may get something similar new for that sort of price range

Terrible with this stuff but I need a new laptop that's going to last me a good 3/4 years - won't be used for much outside of FM - streaming Netflix etc - like to run a few countries maybe all the English and a few too divs in Europe large database.

Looking for a quick experience and 3d engine (even if lowest setting)

Budget 500/600 but would need a finance option.

Any help is appreciated

Thank you for the suggestion, really helpful to see the specs on offer for the price.

I was hoping to visit a local store and buy a laptop today and resume playing FM22. The nearest electronics store to me is Curry (not ideal) and based on your suggestion are the following laptops (which are available to purchase today in-store) also suitable for what I am after (2D matches and between 5-10 leagues loaded on a large database)

Be aware that your nearest store might necessarily not have the exact model in store.

Either the first or the last one.

I'd phone them first and quote the laptop over the phone make sure they have it at that store. If not they can order it for you.

Hi. Just wondering if this laptop is good value for money or could I get better for the moneys worth?
https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9599646?clickSR=slp:term:lenovo ideapad gaming:1:35:1

I have recently just purchased the one below but it doesn’t arrive till next Saturday and I can cancel the order, as I’m doubting if it would be good enough.

I will only be using it for FM and just general stuff, should I stick with the one I’ve bought or get the other one?

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

based in England, had a new PC built two years ago and looking to give it a nice upgrade. My aim is to run as many leagues on FM 22 as possible, smoothly, and for several decades of seasons - any ideas what kind of processing power one might need?

Thanks

Hi All,

firstly thanks for doing this, I got my Dell inspiron 5 years ago from this thread and it’s been a noble steed but it’s beginning to show its age. it was a great recommendation.

I play fm approx 1000 hours a year online with my friends, I do the odd bit of work (as a teacher) on there but other than that it’s used pretty much exclusively for fm. I want it to run as quick as possible, 5 to 6 leagues is the normal amount we run with online, I know how slow online can be running with 4 laptops so the best it can be and I’d be happy to take the brunt of the processing power to help run the file.

my budget is anything up to £1000, im happy to spend to that if the laptop really is the step above the others. Though if you think a £600-£800 could do just as good job when im exclusively playing fm and don’t need other gaming capabilities then I’ll leave that to you.
I would be taking a wild stab in the dark posting any laptops so please send any recommendations you have

thanks again and happy new year!

The first one won't, as it's a Chromebook.  You need Windows or MacOS.

The second one will run the game, but the speed won't be brilliant and you'll likely need to use lower graphical presets for the 3D graphics.

Whats the best option

Now's not a good time for buying desktops, the best deals are all on laptops at the moment.  For £950.00, I'd say this is probably as good as you'll get right now: https://www.box.co.uk/4Q5S2EAABU-Victus-by-HP-16-AMD-Ryzen-5-16GB-RAM-512_3820917.html

Just out of curiosity because I know nothing about laptops what would the life span be on a laptop like that? And if you spend more (on the right model) does the lifetimr chance increase

I don't want to spend big and then in a year or two have to do the same

It should be good for quite a while - it has one of the top laptop CPUs currently available and a current generation graphics card.

Nope, the first one is better.  But for the price range you're looking at, the one I'd go for is this one: https://www.box.co.uk/AVITA-LIBER-NS14A8UKV542-MB-Avita-Liber-V-14-Pro-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-256_3355367.html

It has a better CPU than the others plus should handle the 3D match graphics at medium settings or higher.

Thanks kev,

I mean I won't use it for anything too intensive just FM and streaming really.

3d graphics and 5/10 leagues.

Trying to figure out whether something like would be overkill or whether this other one you've suggested quite a few times would hold up just as well:

Before I buy I noticed you saying to another user that this was particularly good too. The processor is i7 (other i5) but RAM is 8gb rather than 16gb. Wondered which mattered more/would be better.

Purely for FM, that one will also be excellent.  The CPU is pretty much on a par with the other one.  The graphics card isn't as strong, but will be more than enough for FM.

The CPU is more important for FM and 8GB RAM is plenty for FM as things stand.

That said, the i5 in the other one is still excellent so if you prefer to go for the machine with more RAM you'd still be getting an excellent laptop.

Hi,

Would a 14" laptop be too small in terms of fitting a lot of data boxes on the UI of the game? I've found this laptop but I'm not sure if box is a reliable place to order from.

I'm not very good with technical stuff, it was a top end custom built, two years ago.

The budget is variable, depent on the likely end result. I'm not trying to be intentionally vague - I probably need some advice from people who know better

OK, run dxdiag.exe and post a screenshot of the window which comes up - that'll give the basic specs of your current system.

That one is a better spec, but as you were posting ones at £400, that was the budget I was taking into account.  However, you can get the same spec for a much better price here: https://www.box.co.uk/X515EA-BQ170T-ASUS-VivoBook-15-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-2_3813204.html

Thanks for the reply, so it wouldn't really matter if I got a 14" FHD over a 15.6" FHD? Also would this be a good option or stick the the first one?

I'd stick with the first one if you're happy to pay the extra £100.

And yeah, there shouldn't be any difference in what the screen shows on a 14" compared to a 15.6" if they're the same resolution - it'll obviously just be compressed into a smaller physical area on a 14".

Ok one last one (sorry), found this on Argos where I'd prefer to order from, but this has a different processor and I'm not sure about the difference in performance of the two.

The screen resolution would be the deciding factor, not the screen size.

Oh wow kev, is this the reason that my laptop won't show my manager bio then because the resolution? I'm always thinking it's because the screen size so I prefer bigger screens for this but if it's resolution then I can get 14" because I actually prefer smaller lighter laptops.

Potentially, yes.  What's your screen resolution?
