Season 29/30; Midseason Update

We were quite competitive during the group stages and finished 3rd securing another go at the knockouts in the Euro Cup II.

image.thumb.png.fd2046a786dde893607e3d917ec9271f.png

2 wins, a draw and a positive goal difference

image.thumb.png.395b585a4b0f290800a00e2a535df28e.png

We'll play Zorya in the 1st knockout round and there isnt any one to majorly fear in the last 16.

image.thumb.png.bd41913a5b9834a2eb1703db8bb84074.png

Henrique has been great at LB and I will be looking to bring him in on a free as his contract is up at the end of the season. Kone slipped a disc the day before Man Utd away and Popovic has slotted in well and is currently the 2nd top scorer in the team. Skugor has been scoring freely and is a target for some Chinese Super League sides.

Not a great campaign during our qualifying group and we only managed to score 2 goals. The number of quality players is decreasing and is becomming a concern as most of the real starting players like Nanni and Berardi are less influential now. We're currently 117th in the world rankings (116th was our highest). I am probably going to start to try and develop a more counter attacking tactic for the NT.

Does anyone know if the 'B' team option is possible in Italy? Always been a fan of this challenge and am looking to get involved soon enough.

If the above isnt possible, would it be against challenge rules to put San Marino Calcio in Serie D in place of cattolica and stick a b team in the lowest possible division?

Season 29/30; End of Season

BAU domestically winning both the league and cup but disappointing in Europe. We didnt win a game over 90 mins despite reaching the 2nd KO round.

image.thumb.png.f82f91b320686ddb4b7d785609b5c596.png

Skugor bagged 49 goals and beats the 'goals scored in a season' record set by Nanni 2 seasons ago with 43. Biordi has come along well; he was 4* PA at the start of the season. Henrique ended up signing a new deal with his current club but i was able to extend his loan for another season.

image.thumb.png.b154de313eff475a76b0788778c58896.png

I was waiting for the Youth Intake before making any moves on new players. Underwhelming again but an Italian and a Nigerian have come through. Interstingly, Adebayo is now 2* CA and 4.5* PA and Passuello is 4* PA.

I am in the market for a quality young CB and CM. I am also looking for a FB who ideally can cover both sides.

I don't see it as an option to ask the board, so I don't think so - although I have only just cracked Serie A.  I don't see why you can't put a B team in via the pre-game editor - there's a L7 database in the opening post, but having played in it, it's not a great standard, so it would take a few promotions for it to help I suspect.

I am in 2035 on my UFM challenge save and cant see any Italian team minus Juve with one either sadly.

I'm pretty sure that's there in the original database, so I would tend to agree - bit annoying...

San Marino Calcio 2026/2027 - Serie A - Part 1

Well, I figured this would be hard going - and in places, it has been.   However, at the half way point we have 20 points - and if we continue to battle and get around the same number of points in the second half of the season, we should be safe.  So far, we've only faced 2 teams who have parked the bus - so we're playing a more direct style.  I'm still trying to figure out a system to try to get a point or two off the big boys - but the gap between the top of the table and our area and below seems huge.

The TV money is drip fed to you over the season - so that didn't help us financially at the start of the season.  It meant signing permanent players was tough - and we are still relying heavily on loanees - 8 of them - our keeper and playmaker staying for a second year with us.  I had problems finding an inside forward - in the end trying to convert a striker with good pace and dribbling, but that just hasn't worked - so we've just bid for an Ecuadorian player based in Holland.

The finances are now very healthy.  £10.3 million in the bank - with more to come!  I've already changed the club outside of the playing staff dramatically.  The board has agreed to improvements in both youth and training facilities.  We've also got far more coaches in - including for the first time a nice number for the U20's and U18's - hopefully development should be stronger.

Yeah juventus u23s are in the game originally and im sure another side would have created one by then if it was possible. Is a shame as that option could be a massive help with this challenge.

Great progress on your save btw.

Season 30/31; European Qualification

We've qualified for the CL group stages after some solid performances.

image.thumb.png.c0d1aa952560db386a04328016fa2a65.png

Here's our group and we start with a home tie against Lokomotiv. I dont expect to get too much out of the games against Juve and Chelsea...

image.thumb.png.f3650dd310443ff1db24dacffb603566.png

3 players have joined; Pejic, who can play either side at full back. Padilha, a young Brazilian who plays CM and Vokshi who was our record signing and received a damaged achilles tendon on his first day - he's still out for another 2 months.

I extended the loan of Henrique for another season.

Kone and Slavica are out of contract at the end of the season and are not wanting to renew their contracts at present due to interst from clubs.

Season 30/31; Mid Season Update

We were 3-0 up in the home tie against Lokomotiv and were also leading in the away tie. We threw away the chance of finishing 3rd which is disappointing.

image.thumb.png.891f0bfa5a39976d0b57763d94590ebd.png

Biordi has grown as player massively and both Porto and Man Utd were interested. A bid came in from Porto which i rejected and their interest has since gone. Adebayo, a striker from last seasons intake, has performed excellently for the first team. It's a shame that he isnt Sammarinese. Vokshi has come back from injury and slotted in very well

image.thumb.png.7c39c3c448eb5a6a26e052324bd5ed1d.png

****************************************************************

Despite finishing 3rd I was happy with the NT performance considering the previous World Cup qualiying compaign. The NT are weak in areas; LB, CM and also up front so need to hope that replacements appear in the next couple of intakes. Not much quality comes from the other sides in San Marino and the only 2 in recent years being Guerra and Lividini, both I signed at a younger age to help their development.

Season 30/31; End of Season

With no European football during the 2nd half of the season our sole focus was the League and Cup. We won both and failed to win just 2 games; both draws.

The domestic scene has become very mundane so with this and also the situation with the NT, I am restricting foreign players at the club. I still need to remain competitive in the European competitions as progressing as far as possible is important and part of the challenge, but I also need to ensure that im giving as much opportunity for the youth players to improve and progress. 11 foreign players are allowed to be registered so I will be making sure that I only ever have 5 foreign players that have been signed to the club. The other 6 slots will be available to youth players that come in via our youth intakes.

A lot of strong performances through the squad

image.thumb.png.f3fa22ea732c61321c1b81f6da11ecfc.png

Very happy to see a decent looking striker come through the youth intake. Gennari looks like a diamond

San Marino Calcio 22-23

This season went better than the last and we were competing the most of the season for spot 4-7. Untill March were we hit a bad run due to my chance of tactics. I am really disapointed, because I think with this squad I should've finished in the top of the league.

1183383849_League22-23.thumb.PNG.ddd5ffea6c27c77c943bb424baade0c8.PNG\

Vladulescu 3th player of the season is really suprising to me, as he was mostly substitude and did not score a lot. He has a lot of potentatial though. Unfortunatly he is not San Marinese :P

997610734_Seasonawards22-23.thumb.PNG.924e36877d8b9de555af31674d499921.PNG

The National Team is not really improving. I introduced a lot of young players from my under 18 and under 20' teams to give them experience at national levels. I really need to find a tactic which is working.

1658309779_SanMarino2023.thumb.PNG.9d636c490ed3ff992160d1092fdaf930.PNG

For next season I hope to get promoted (finally) and to improve my facilities to strenghten the NT.

San Marino Calcio 2026/27 - Serie A - Part 2

With 20 points at the half way stage, we added 2 permanent signings in the winter window - left back Michele Lo Curto for £1 million and Ecuadorian (via Holland) left inverted winger Peter Tromp for £2.5 million - to help us with our two weakest positions.  That really helped us - and we were able to secure another season is the top flight with 4 games to spare.  We finished 13th with 45 points - perhaps the last game of the season we could have won, but I put out mostly young players and we lost 0-1.  We were able to take out our first massive scalp - beating "Zebre" 2-1 away from home - with our 18 year old midfielder Francesco Baroni (all 5'2" of him) scoring the winner in the 86th minute.

Youth Intake

Not the best, unfortunately.  However, with improved facilities due to be finished in November, hopefully things will improve in the next couple of years.  We are also going to let our HOYD leave when his contract expires in the summer, and try to bring in someone worthy of Serie A.

1600276130_Calcio2027YouthIntake.thumb.jpg.6b21e6040032181cd69b51c17fd495ce.jpg

Overall Challenge Progress

I figure I'll throw this in here now we are in the top flight.  We have one youth product who is looking like a regular first team prospect.  He's French though, so of no help to the challenge's progress.  We have 2 players in the San Marino NT - Baroni - and also 18 year old midfielder Matteo Cenci, who got a debut in the last game for the Calcio first team.  The NT U21 team has mostly our players - but I don't know many are Serie A players - so there's still a lot of work to do and it's going to take another few years to start to get somewhere with regards to the challenge.

Season 31/32; European Qualification

We've qualified for the CL group stages for the 2nd successive season. Some very strong performances along the way. We might be able to get something out of the 2 games against Fenerbahce, we'll see.

image.thumb.png.bbc2ed201a44c2fbe58760a6cde73d28.png

image.thumb.png.888fa1a327d88d4a793b0e45c6f6842d.png

We have parted ways with 3 players during pre-season as I look to free up some foreign spots for my youngsters. Bryski left on a free as his contract was up and we sold Pejic for £400k who failed to impress after signing for £700k last season. The tough call was allowing Kone to leave however, he is now 30 and was on almost £19k a week. A number of teams in France had been interested in him for some time and we managed to sell him for £750k. The squad still has 6 signed foreign players but both Rolland and Skugor's contracts are up in the summer and at least one of them will leave. We currently only have 4 first team CB's and no stand out youth players to come in whilst up front we have 3 very decent young strikers. But Skugor has been quality for me so it is going to be a tough decision.

There are 6 players 18 and under in the first team mix and a couple of other decent players in the youth team so I will be trying to give them some playing time with personalised training to aide their development.

Before signing a new deal, bids were coming in left, right and centre for Biordi with clubs such as Spurs and Man Utd making a couple of bids. We've received a fair few bids for a lot of our players over the summer with some domestic sides bidding in excess of £500k for Tota!

image.thumb.png.08d6c99a4a615e09efdd8b8f613898a3.png

****************************************************************

After losing our first qualifier against Albania, we have won 2 and drawn 1 sending us 2nd in the group. Granted Italy have only played twice compared to us and Albania and we play them next away from home. Its a promising start and the excitement of managing the NT is coming back, especially with a couple of decent youngsters coming through.

We're now a record high of 107th in the World rankings.

image.thumb.png.4d495e2c9bb76c8a98957080c5bbc108.png

Our U21's finished 3rd in their Euro Championship group, not a bad effort for the nations first ever tournament at any level.

Season 31/32; Mid Season Update

I was happy with our performances during the CL group stages with 2 wins and a draw. This was our best performance during a group stage. We have a tie against Anderlecht in the EL knockouts

image.thumb.png.455d1707059a2d65a3b38969a9bd5f45.png

image.thumb.png.d61f1e5da1069ea355271ccbd47c147a.png

Both Adebayo and Gennari have performed will up front and as Skugor has picked up consecutive knee ligament injuries and with the 2 youngsters plus another one called Passuello, I will be letting him leave. I will also be letting Rolland leave and looking for a better alternative at CB as we will need an extra quality CB.

Padilha's loan is up at the end of the season but I am looking to make him permanent. He has a £10m release clause but im trying to get him in for a lower fee if i can.

We had a great qualifying campaign for the Euro's and finished 2nd in our group

We missed out on qualification by a matter of goals. With some new young talent coming through the buzz for the NT is back and excited for the future.

image.thumb.png.5c444a67553b6f501f3a01486f7b5e2b.png

Season 2 Review

gQnQCQK.png

San Marino Calcio

Being the only semi-professional team in the league, I am very happy that we stayed clear of the relegation places the whole season. Solid 8th place in the end.

Youth Intake was not that good. Let's see how they develop.

San Marino National Team

We rocked the Nations League. 4 wins from 4 games, so we finished first and got promoted to Nationals League C.

Season 2 Preview

It might sound ambitious but I want to achieve promotion with San Marino Calcio. We are turning professional now and I will do a big overhaul of the squad. I think I can attract good enough player to win Serie C.

With the national team I played the first few games of the World Cup Qualifiers already and that looked good. I don't think we will finish last and that's the goal: Leave one or maybe even two teams in our group behind us.

I'm still alive and kicking (been not very well in the last couple of weeks) and still playing this save.

Serie C has started quite well to be honest. Pisa and Spezia are far ahead of everyone else but we're keeping up with the rest of the pack, surprisingly

Been dithering with what set up to start this challenge with and have finally found one I am happy with. I will be going down the route of resurrecting San Marino Calcio, but in the 6th tier of the Italian league system. The reason for this is due to the game not allowing B teams in Italy, I have put San Marino Calcio Reserves in the 7th tier. On FM19 i tried a Sammarinese only policy, but flat lined in Serie B and ended up giving up. This time around I wont be putting any restrictions on who I can sign but will off course be focusing on youth development.

There are only a couple of players remaining from the original squad.

Ercolani arrived during my 3rd intake and has been a star player for a number of years. He has scored 25 goals in 71 NT apps.

image.thumb.png.fad4a2324e98ed9a02d7840d3b0dadcd.png

Biordi is currently the best rated player for the NT. Man Utd, Tottenham and Porto have all been interested in signing him over the past 12-18 months

Gennari is our latest stand out player for the NT and came through the intake last season. At 18 years old, he is our new number 1 striker.

San Marino Calcio 2027/2028 - Serie A - Part One

I managed to make two of our loan signings, both who had been with us for 2 years, permanent.  Keeper Gaetano De Simone for £1.2 million and defensive midfielder Massimiliano Morabito for £4 million.  We also were able to get striker Francesco Malagnino back on loan again - although he's not been as good this season.  The team is far more permanent than it has been - with just Malagnino and a right back loanees in the starting lineup - and 2 backups as I couldn't find anyone else.  That led to a better start than usual - although we had a 6 games without a win blip around December - but have just won 3 in a row after a well timed team meeting.

We've played 22 games of the season, so a little over halfway - and we're doing really well.  We have 32 points - so almost to the magic 40 point "should be enough to stay up" mark.

Facilities are getting better - the board have agreed to another youth and training facilities upgrade - while both junior coaching and youth recruitment are now "Excellent".

The early report on the 2028 youth intake promises a "Golden Generation" - but I've seen that before and I'm still waiting - but I live in hope!!  Our one first teamer who has come through the youth ranks is Benoit Besnier - who has the highest average rating so far this season - but he's French and of no help to the National Team.

After a European Championships Qualifying campaign which saw the national team win just once - manager Nicola Berardi quit.  I was thinking about this job in a couple of years time - but as it naturally became available, I applied and got the job.  My first match isn't until March and the squad isn't great - but hopefully we can have a decent Nations League campaign.

Good stuff. I think they really need to work on the whole 'Golden Generation' detail - very misleading.

Also, look at Juve!

Cheers!  I agree - it really gets your hopes up and then...

I took it the SI coders weren't kind to Juve/Zebre over the whole naming rights issue!!  I've got them away next up - hoping to get a win as I did last season!

Season 31/32; End of Season

We beat Anderlecht on penalties in the 1st KO round but couldnt defend our 2 goal, first leg lead against Espanyol in the next. We conceded a 92nd minute penalty which they scored and took the tie to Extra Time. They dominated the whole game to be fair.

We continued our domestic dominance by winning the league and cup.

Rolland left towards the end of the season to a Qatari side and both Skugor and Padilha will also be parting ways with the club bringing our foreign transfers to 5 and where I want that number to be. Both Henrique and Laporte are on loan with us until the end of next season. The quality in our youth team is low and we are lacking depth in some areas.

Our latest youth intake isnt anything special with just a couple of players to get mildly excited about.

San Giovanni 2019/20 Update Part 2

We managed to qualify for the Champions Playoffs with 1 game to spare - finishing 5th in the end - not bad with the board's objectives being "avoid finishing bottom".  However, the playoffs were over right away against Tre Fiori.  It was 1-1 after the home leg - we gave up an awful own goal - and we lost the second leg to 2 corners and a penalty.  Still, overall a solid first season.

Don't suppose you can help - when I try to play in the San Marino league as linked in the opening post, nearly every team gives me board expectations as below, even for the teams with the lowest reputation + media prediction. Did the same happen to you? I don't know how to fix it in the editor.

I used Claasen's file - but that had a bug in it where other teams weren't always registering their players properly, so I can't recommend using that one.  I guess you could find that on the Steam Workshop and see if you can de-bug that one.  I haven't tried the Fusion DB one - not sure if others in the San Marino League have used it - anyone?

This is my current NT squad

There are only a couple of players remaining from the original squad.

Ercolani arrived during my 3rd intake and has been a star player for a number of years. He has scored 25 goals in 71 NT apps.

image.thumb.png.fad4a2324e98ed9a02d7840d3b0dadcd.png

Biordi is currently the best rated player for the NT. Man Utd, Tottenham and Porto have all been interested in signing him over the past 12-18 months

Gennari is our latest stand out player for the NT and came through the intake last season. At 18 years old, he is our new number 1 striker.

I used Claasen's file. It isnt ideal with the club registration issue.

Season 32/33; European Qualification

A very strong qualifying campaign saw us qualify for the CL group stages for the 3rd successive season. We conceded just once in 8 games. We're handed a tough group as both Man City and Monaco have dominated in England and France over the last 5 or so years.

No new signings as I trimmed the number of foreign signings at the club. I have extended Laporte's loan until the end of next season and Henrique's parent club are wanting to give him a chance next season. This will free up a foreign signing spot and I will be looking to bring in a quality DM as we havent got a domestic player with good ability in this position. I will wait to see what our next intake brings, it would be great to have a good LB come through.

Season 3 Review

gQnQCQK.png

San Marino Calcio

Great season. Turning professional the goal was to get promoted, and we had a super start: 8 wins and 2 draws from the first 10 games. But mid-october we got problems out of nowhere. 3 losses in a row, no consistency until february. Then we got rolling again. Only one loss in the last 13 games, but too many draws (6). And Südtirol was consistent and too far ahead. So we finished only second.

tabelle.thumb.jpg.dcc4669919019d70518439d68f697a5c.jpg

Play-off-time. I hate them, they are nerve-wrecking. First round we won 2:0 away, 1:1 at home, everything okay. Second round: 2:0 away-win again, after scoring early in the home game everything seemed to be easy again. But our opponent came back, 1:1 after 15 minutes, 1:2 after 23 minutes and after a lot of defending 1:3 after 68 minutes. Luckily they seemed to stop there, we had more and more chances again, but couldn't score in regular time... and for a long time in extra time. But as I already started to prepare for penalties, the goal come: 2:3 and through to the play-off-finale.

And another nerve-wrecking game there, the shorty story is: Because of a 2-2 draw after regular and after extra time, penalties decided, a lot of penalties. Every player from our team still on the green (we had one red card) was called to the spot until our goalkeeper Alessandro Gilardi saved one and score one to become a hero and legend for this club: Promotion to Serie B!

San Marino National Team

A lot less spectacular. We had very good World Cup Qualifiers. Came with 5 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses 4th in our group, just on goal difference behind Ireland. Really looking forward to next years Nation League, because all the teams in our Group C played much worse in their qualifying groups.

Season 2 Preview

With San Marino Calcio, I don't have any specific goals. Let's see if we can get some good players in and how difficult Serie B is.

With the national team I want to get promoted from National League C and in want to get in the top-150 in the world.

New Achievement

Win promotion from Serie C - @duesouth

Season 32/33; Mid-Season

We started off with 2 defeats in the CL group stage but 2 excellent wins against Lokomotiv meant that we secured 3rd spot. We also picked up a 0-0 draw against City at home which was a very good result.

We have been drawn against Austria Vienna in the EL 1st KO round

image.thumb.png.face025f4b21ff3691f6ae9358c65d74.png

Supe has been developing really well since he arrived and he is now the interest of a few big teams. There is a nice spread of goals amongst my attacking players and Slavica has been quality as my DLP.

Our latest Youth Intake preview looks shocking but I will wait for the actual intake before deciding which position I will need to strengthen. A LB looks to be a must and as there arent any domestic players worth noting in this position, I have a decision to make as Laporte has been solid as my DM.

==============================================================

The NT were up against it after 2 defeats in 3 games during the Nations League, but we won our last 3 games, including a 3-0 win against Norway which meant we finished top of the group.
