Well first time this has happened to me in game!

What's also nice to see is at the moment, 2 other clubs in the league are in the process of building new stadiums, and all the teams in the league are currently semi-pro. So hopefully over the coming years I will see a growing league reputation which long term should help the national team. My aim for this save now is to increase the league rep as much as possible - I'm already loaning/selling most of my youth team that aren't first team prospects to other teams in the division to try and raise the standard. Hopefully after several years the national team will start to organically improve as a result - not planning on taking them over for a good few years yet!

That's a similar route that I am trying with regards to the domestic clubs. A few of the teams reps have increased but it will be a slow burner.

Out of interest, does anyone know of someone completing this challenge based in San Marino?

I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple of people have done it - can't be 100% sure who, but I think Makoto Nakamura and one other...  Makoto gets through a season way faster than I get through a month in game, which helps for this challenge!

I'll try and dig through the archives to try and find a thread about it as i would enjoy reading through that

Season 25/26; Midseason update

A largely successful first half of the season saw the team win each domestic fixture and only concede 5 goals and score 67.

image.thumb.png.67723a168f8698b96282c7f6adf7f67d.png

We picked up 2 excellent results against Sporting during the Group Stages and finished 3rd.

image.thumb.png.7ddb4753ac1b7ccb7895373f52bff602.png

We have now qualified for the European Knockout stages in 2 successive seasons; its not a bad draw for us considering there are some big teams such as Dortmund

image.thumb.png.6f16c15a542d5a76989850c21c13da2c.png

The squads performances have been excellent again despite having to contend with moderate/major injuries to Cervellini (Broken Ribs), Shakhbari (Groin Strain & Twisted Ankle), and Peter (Back Strain).

Goals have been flowing nicely and defensivley we have been solid, but we have been lacking quality in depth and have taken the decision to start splashing the hard earnt cash on better players to help take us to the next level in Europe.

image.thumb.png.2a7ceaa8390dba5d275ee03cbd301307.png

We will be bringing in the 2 below players at the end of the season, the latter we will be paying a total of £1m for over the next 3 years

image.thumb.png.2311a1c4ce8e4239c30f7bff880e39c5.png

There are a couple of other players on the radar too...

Season 2019-2020:

This  will be a youth only challenge for me.

What a great first season. We won the league and the cup.

Games 1

Games 2

Cup

Competition phase 1

Phase 2

Youth intake: a very good first intake

Giacomo Batistini (YP1a): DR

Federico Selva (YP1b): AML

One more question: I assume that I don't need to be the national manager from the start of this save, is that correct?

Good luck to everybody. I saw already a lot of great progress

Welcome!  Cracking start - good luck and enjoy moving forward.

No, you don't have to be National Manager from the start.  I checked back on past year's threads and if the job isn't offered to you at a point you are ready - you are allowed to add a temporary manager as national team boss, retire him and then apply (and hopefully get the job) yourself.  I'm not national team manager in my save - and I missed the original manager getting the boot, so seems fair enough.

Great, thanks.

I have every year a go in San Marino, but never posted about it.

Season 25/26; End of Season Review

Almost the perfect domestic season with the team failing to win just one game over the season, a 1-1 draw away to Murata. We secured another treble.

image.thumb.png.57a2db5a4f594e57be38ccba0c69a95f.png

We qualified for the knockout stages of the Euro Cup II @duesouth after finishing 3rd in our Euro Cup group. We faced Inter Zapresic and I havent felt as deflated as I did at the end of the tie. We lost the 1st leg 2-1 and drew the return leg 1-1 meaning that we were out. In the 2nd leg, they went down to 10 men after just 4 minutes. We scored the all important goal which up until the 93rd min meant that we would be going through, but a long ball over the top and a messy goal saw the visitors make the next round.

image.thumb.png.a71df29e00e19340fa39de146b054e6e.png

Some outstanding performances from the players again, but as mentioned in the midseason update, a lack of quality in depth. Mancini and Ercolani had blistering seasons beating all sorts of records.

Zavoli, Ghisleri and Fabbri have declined but will still be part of my plans as are most of the squad but if we are to become a consistent member of the CL & EL group stages we need to bring in some additional quality. I provided screenshots of 2 players that I signed in my midseason update who will be joining next season and I have also signed Manuel Gecchele on a free who looks an absolute delight.

image.thumb.png.f41603167aec563ced52a36d218558c6.png

Im debating whether or not to bring in another who can play CB & LB ideally and also may need to bring in another option up front.

My youth intake screenshot didnt upload, and by the time that I had realised, I had to make do with the below. Not the best but there are a couple of players to work with.

image.thumb.png.fdc638f6f90af2f9b87ad63693954fc7.png

Our new stadium will be completed imminently and further upgrades to Training and Youth facilities will be completed soon.

image.thumb.png.09cf0415a2c86dee26296d309a10a1c2.png

Nothing spectacluar to report back on regarding the NT. We were poor during the World Cup qualifiers, picking up just 1 win and a draw. We're currently 140 in the world.

First season done. Won promotion from Serie D to Serie C by winning the division. Got a nice newgen. Another Bernardi for San Marino.

Haven't managed San Marino yet. Will start to do that next season.

Season 26/27; European Qualification

It paid off by signing the players that I am now targetting as we qualified for the CL group stages. An impressive 4-1 win away to Kobenhavn sealed the qualification.

image.thumb.png.d289c8182cc31f9646cc542be7d37fe4.png

It's a tough group, but not as tough as some of the others

image.thumb.png.9de734d2e866128ce2c8abf78da02ac4.png

The usual suspects dominate the stats with my forward 3 all producing the goods. Summer signings, Gecchele, Dallari and Brzyski have all settled in well and we added further players; Cabral at LB who came in on a free and we also signed the legend that it Nicola Nanni on a free transfer. We were short of a striker, he fits the bill nicely and doesnt take up a foreign player slot.

image.thumb.png.58685143ee76794d983c488be5bd6e69.png

We've now moved in to our new stadium and improvements to the training and youth facilities will be completed shortly. I also requested improvements to Junior Coaching and Youth Recruitment, both are now exceptional and excellent.

Wow, congrats on qualifying for the group stage of the CL. And with a bit of luck you can take even some points in this group.

Not much else to report - still dominating the league comfortably, not pulling up any trees on the European stage. Interestingly though 4 other teams in the San Marino league have now turned professional, and I expect the others will shortly follow. Hopefully this should continue to boost the leagues reputation and benefit the national team long term.

Season 26/27; Mid-season Update

We started off badly in the CL group stages by losing 7-0 to Porto and going down 3-1 to Sion at home. I really faniced our chances against them but a 12th minute red card against us and also giving away 2 penalties didnt help. We beat Leverkusen at home and also drew at home against Porto, but the stand out game was the 5-0 hammering that we gave to Sion away from home. That result ensured that we finished 3rd in the group and will now be playing Leicester in the EL knockout stages.

image.thumb.png.7de173d8ed3e44680d0c2fd0123aef88.png

image.thumb.png.ca8b25de931affe420062191ae72c59a.png

Domestically we have dominated again winning all of our games. A lot of goals have been scored and the summer signings have all made good impacts; domestically and in Europe.

image.thumb.png.1e823a20bdaa630c3aa4d4be888ac863.png

Its been a solid year for the NT with 6 wins from 8 games and 1st place in our Nations League group. We're currently 132nd in the World.

From the 1st post - you'll need 2 files:

install these 2 files - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1917811437 which will see Cattolica Calcio San Marino playable in Serie D - the club will produce Sammarinese youth intakes (thanks to @parkin90 for this).  This needs to be used with this Serie D database -  https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1920497135 .  Please do install both files and not just the Serie D database, otherwise you'll get Italian youth intakes.  It may also be worth downloading a San Marino League database and enable that league also;

Both files look to be there when I click on the links - instructions are:

  1.       Head to the first of the 2 links (make sure FM20 is not open);
  2.       Click on the ‘Subscribe’ button;
  3.       Click on the 2nd link;
  4.       Click on the 'Subscribe' button;
  5.       Open FM20 - this should then trigger the download of the 2 files;
  6.       Start the new game as per instructions in the opening post.

Most importantly - to have the option to manage the San Marino National Team you MUST select the "Advanced" option on the database size screen; and then go to nations, San Marino and make sure "load all players of nationality" is ticked or you'll be unable to take control of the National Team.

So far the youth intakes have been solid, if not spectacular. Most of the intakes are comfortably better than the standard of the other teams in the division, with a couple of players every year being able to slot into my first team setup. Similarly the national team consists mainly of players from my club.

However despite my junior coaching and youth recruitment both being rated as exceptional, there's been no stand out youth prospect so far. And to be competitive in Europe my squad still relies on players brought in from elsewhere.

My fear is that the San Marino national youth rating is going to be so low, that the standard of these newgens will be capped at a relatively low level. My hope is that with improvements in club and league rep, the standard will slowly improve over time. It makes for a very interesting save, but I still feel I'm decades off managing the national team as the quality as a whole isn't there.

My last couple of intakes havent been great and have just hired a new HoYD to see if that can help. Ive also been scouting the youth players across the league to see if there are any good potential players to bring in and let them develop using my facilities.

I think it is a case of biding time and increasing the club and league rep to produce better youth players.

Season 2020-2021:

We won the double again. We also had a very good run in Europ

Games 1

Games 2

Cup

Competition phase 1

Phase 2

Champions play-off

Europe

We also have our first player come through our youth intake to become a full international

Youth intake: No 5* player, but in overall a much better intake than the first year.

Pietro Tassi (YP2a): DC

Stefano Tommassini (YP2b): DM but will be retrained as a MC (cancel that because he is already poached by Tre Penne)

Simone Pedini (YP2c): MC

At the end of the season we became semi professional. Also Tre Penne became semi professional.

We also have our first big name as a trainer in San Marino.

The position as National coach can become a bigger problem, as the manager has won 25% of the games played by the National team this season. Just insane.

Season 26/27; End of Season

A perfect domestic season! Leicester were too strong for us in the 1st knockout round but we created chances across both legs. Their extra quality shone through.

image.thumb.png.3466a7bb8cd39f38e6ef99d22632b7dc.png

Some ridiculous numbers posted again by the squad. Nanni bagged 39 goals in 23 starts (8 sub appearances). It was a major positive to have my CM's contribute more heavily with goals and assists this season.

image.thumb.png.a3c16bf8a7314fa8b781d2586eb6c798.png

We're signing another CB from France as we're needing another quality CB. I am also looking for another AMR option but not rushing as I am more than happy with the squad for next season.

image.thumb.png.65b2cbc6f0a041137959c1315dca49a4.png

Bianchi looks a really good talent and both Biordi and Guerra could progress too. Ive changed my HoYD to see if a change can help target some better attacking options through the intake.

In other news, Michel Salgado is my new assistant manager.

Afternoon! Finally I've got round to posting about the heartbreaking second half of the 2021/2 season!

https://stratmangaming.wordpress.com/2020/01/25/serene-rebirth-6-a-price-worth-paying/

Co close... in both the automatic spot and playoffs!  I had a similar thing with the playoffs and international call ups in my FM19 save - in the end, I didn't select any of my club starters for the international squad, leaving them available for the playoffs.  I just promised them they'd be in the squad next time when they complained!  I had a 100% Italian starting XI for my Serie C playoff run recently - figure I'll worry about San Marino and developing the youth products if I ever hit and consolidate in Serie A.

How are the finances looking?  I'm in my 2nd season since becoming full-time and they are pretty bad.  I'm under my Serie B wage budget set by the board, but not by much and money is going out of our hands like water!

I wish I had your foresight to manage the call ups like that. :( my finances are poor and getting worse I think we are about 500k in debt and losing about 70k per month!

I must have read it somewhere on the road to the playoffs - and for once remembered something!!  Not always the case! :kriss:

I suppose that one of the advantages of managing directly in San Marino is that it gives you a potentially quicker route to Europe and the finances that it brings.

For sure - I'm losing money even more now in Serie B - if/when I can get to Serie A, the money problems go away instantly with the TV money.  Consistently inconsistent so far this season, so going to be tough, but feel the financial pressure!!

We let a 3-0 first leg lead slip against Astra and eventually lost on penalties. We missed a penalty and a number of good chances in the return leg but just couldnt find that decisive goal. We met Olimpija in the EL playoff and went through 4-2 on aggregate. Somewhat disappointed considering the 1st leg in the Astra tie but nevertheless, its still european group stage action.

We might have a chance of picking up some points against Astana and Sturm Graz

We lost one of our best players in Gecchele who is now playing in Serie A and we have also lost our RB Tim Wolf who has moved back to Austria. Both became unhappy when I rejected transfer bids and both players only had a year left on their deals and neither had any interest in signing a new contract.

The loss of Wolf isnt too bad as Lividini has progessed very well and it gives him a chance to be our number one RB. We will feel the loss of Gecchele more but it presents the opportunity to ensure that Bianchi gets more game time to aide his progression after coming through as our number one youth player from ourlast intake.

2 new players have joined. Spadazzi is on loan from AC Milan but hasnt really stood out yet. We signed CB Baptiste Rolland on a free from Lille and within 2 weeks of joining he suffered a lower back stress fracture and was sidelined for 2 months and all our European fixtures. No more signings will be made.

If you can beat Sturm Graz once and draw the other - you will have a real chance - or hope they slip up against Astana.  Good luck!

We hammered Astana at home in our first game but then lost away to Sturm Graz in the next

For sure - I'm losing money even more now in Serie B - if/when I can get to Serie A, the money problems go away instantly with the TV money.  Consistently inconsistent so far this season, so going to be tough, but feel the financial pressure!!

What's the TV money like in Serie B? Much prize money in the cup? I've not managed in Italy for quite some time.

About 64,000 a month - so not a massive amount.

Season 27/28; Midseason

Business as usual domestically and we have hit double figures in 3 of our games.

image.thumb.png.596463c545d3bd7fbb9aeb14bb97e63b.png

We had a good run in the EL group, beating Astana home and away and also drawing against Sturm Graz. We finished 3rd and have a tie against Javor in the EL II 1st knockout stage.

Rolland and Spadazzi have been solid signings. The latters contract is up at the end of the season so will be offering a contract to him to see if i can sign him. Nanni has been an abolute beast scoring 25 goals in 12 starts. A lot of other stand out performances across the team.

Our facilities have been upgraded and our training facilities are now adequate and our youth facilities are average. Ive requested further improvements which have been accepted by the chairman.

**********

After a good start to qualifying, we faltered a little and finished 4th in the group

We are however in the playoff for qualification due to topping our Nations League group last season...you never know

Are your gate receipts contributing much? Hopefully you'll get to Serie A soon and reap the financial rewards

No, attendances are poor still - anywhere from 1,000 to 2,000 - I was hoping to be closer to sell outs as the stadium capacity is only 5,500.
