Shouldn't all your regens have French-Basque names instead of Spanish-Basque?

I think I know what's a French name, and I think I know what's a Spanish name, but I'm not really sure what's what when it comes to Basque names.

We've got Basque names such as Zubizarreta, Bengoetxea x2, and Intxausti, and we've got French names such as Bouchez, Mancicior, Cassou, Roger, Charpentier, Romo, Aguirre, Martin, Joubert, Magne, Vincent & Foucher, but I agree we also have loads of Spanish names such as Nunez, Gomez, Perez, Gonzalez (loads), Martinez (loads), as well as Garrido, Ruiz and Rodriguez.

I've got to admit that I'm not in a position to be too critical of the names although it does seem pretty reasonable having an area right on the border of France and Spain, (that has a sub-Nationality that is predominantly Spanish), throw us names that are most commonly French and Spanish.

I should also say that I have got a Heim, (German?) and Heitz (German?). Is that unreasonable?

124f9169f6bf6d3885d9ce2e25d68b07.png

I've already claimed that Aguirre is a French name, so it shows what little I know, and I've also got to admit that I wouldn't have picked Bacque, Navarro, Ochoa, Sorapuru, or Yaben as Basque names, (although in hindsight anything with a z or a x in probably was).

Although we lost against Brest, we have dropped fewer points than most of  our rivals.

We dropped 5 points over the last 5 games.
Pacy Menilles dropped 7 points over the last 5 games.
Vannes OC dropped 8 points over the last 5 games.
Bourg en Bresse dropped 4 points over the last 5 games.
Chateauroux dropped 10 points over the last 5 games.
Clermont dropped 5 points over the last 5 games.

After 2 draws to start the month, we got back to winning ways against Arras, helped by a brace from (23e) Bouchez (F.Det) *, (a rubbish free-kick and a penalty).

367245e208e4e5c31e054235f8027083.gif

We are 3 points ahead of 2nd placed Pacy Menilles and 4 points ahead of 3rd placed Bourg en Bresse with 2 games remaining. If we win just 1 of our remaining 2 games, and avoid a 6 goal swing in goal-difference), then we are Champions.

Bourg en Bresse were worthy winners in the 1st game of the month, but we absolutely battered bottom side Saint-Malo and in doing so secured not just promotion to Ligue 2, but also the French National title.

We all know who Didier Deschamps is and it's he who our current stadium is named after. Guallaume Lesec is out 1st goal-scoring GK who has recently retired with 78 career goals to his name. Anyone who has followed my threads for a while will know that I have never had a stadium named after me. We don't have the money right now but I would expect that it will be looming large on the horizon, (assuming I can avoid relegation next season). I need to get a move on and get to Legend status on the hurry-up, otherwise the new stadium is going to be named after Lesec rather than me. The only problem with this is that it will probably take promotion to Ligue 1 to get me to Legend status.

U19's League

There were still no U19 fixtures this season. I'm pretty sure that will change next season as our rep should take a nice bump.

Finances.

We're due £663,000 prize money for winning the league, plus we will get the season-ticket sales money at the beginning of next season and then it will be interesting to see how much TV money we get for being in League 2 next season.

What we really need is a facility upgrade or 6.

Finally! Jun 2032.

The 1st thing I did when we got promoted was have a look at the Ligue 2 rules to find out what our potential prize money might be at the end of our 1st season in Ligue 1.

I wasn't a happy-chappy when I read what was on offer.

4fde4640219ab826b8c59000021be233.png

That's only slightly more than was awarded for the same finishing positions in National Ligue. For God's sake! I would be  better off finishing high in the National League and not getting promoted but receiving more prize money.

Or would I.........?

That'll do nicely.

Open Borders. Jul 2032.

Up until now, we have been unable to attract a single Spanish Basque player to the club.

9149444e850b7646b7f2319337457d4f.png

After promotion though, I have already managed to get a Spanish Basque in on trial and the general quality of players interested seems to be better.

Intxausti (ESP) * is a Spaniard and basque and looks to be a decent player with significant potential. Although he is already 25 years old I would probably look to sign him were it not for the fact that he is a "righty" who plays on the left. I hate all this inverted bullsugar.

Dijon while 20th in Ligue 1. Dec 2025.
Troyes while 17th in Ligue 1. Dec 2025.
AJ Auxerre while 11th in Ligue 1. Nov 2026.
Strasbourg while 20th in Ligue 1. Jan 2027.
EA Guingamp were 14th in Ligue 1. Jun 2028.
Stade Lavallois were 1st in Ligue 2. Jun 2028.
Lille while 12th in Ligue 2. Oct 2028.
FC Lorient while 6th in Ligue 2. May 2030.
Nancy while 20th in League 1. Jun 2030.
AC Ajaccio while 1st in League 2. Jun 2030.
FC Lorient(2) were 17th in Ligue 2. Jun 2031.
Stade Lavallois(2) while 17th in Ligue 2 in Aug 2031.
Nancy(2) while 6th in Ligue 2 in Dec 2031.
Italy National Team. Jul 2032.

I'm not interested in a National Team job at the moment, but it's something that I might be interested in later in the save when we are producing players that I would be managing in the National Team. Before that though, I would be interested in Managing the Italy U18's or Italy U21's.

Seems a bit bizarre for someone who has just made it to the French second tier being offered such a high profile national job.

Very strange indeed.

It should also be added that I started with no badges and only Sunday League playing experience, (I think).

This is my profile now. I have a National C Licence, (think I got it the 1st season), and nothing since. It's all very very strange.

Unexpected. Jul 2032.

373d2533fcf8a614328f566d7ecd5761.png

Pre-season went as pre-season does, but what was most unexpected was starting off with two such convincing wins in the league. Bourg en Bresse were Runners Up to us last season so we might have been expected to beat them, but Niort finished 16th of 20 last season, (6 points clear of relegation). If we can beat those around us who we will be fighting with to avoid relegation, then it will give us the best chance of survival.

Loving this. You're slowly getting there. Feels like establishing yourself in Ligue 2 is the final stumbling block with £5m or so coming in each season you should be good, especially since your squad turnover will be very limited. I feel with these challenges you always end up with what you'd assume is a below average squad for the league you're in but because of the players familiarity with each other and the stability of the playing staff, they always exceed expectation.

Thanks. Yeah, getting promoted to Ligue 2 has been quite significant. We have immediately turned Pro and as long as we don't get relegated, (early signs are good), then we should be laughing. I have restructured the wage budget/transfer budget to keep us within budget. I don't plan on splashing the cash for anyone at the moment. Everyone will either be home-produced or picked up on a free. I lost a couple of good prospects on a free because I couldn't sign them to new deals, and I think this is going to lessen that happening in the future.

I know what you mean with regards to the player familiarity but I'm not sure that's particularly effective quite yet. I'm playing with 3 players in the DM line at the moment, 2x Vol(a) and an A(d), and we don't have many players at all suited to those roles so the tactical familiarity is poor. Despite that it seems to be working well. I really want to push 1 of the Vol(a)'s forward but think I will wait to our 2nd season in League 2 to try that. I don't want to fix what ain't broken.

Well done on promotion, the narrow loss to Bordeaux in preseason augers well.  Seems very odd about the Italy offer.

Any chance on getting more badges or even improving the facilities.

I don't take any notice at all of pre-season results or performances. They are a tool to gain match fitness and bring in a few quid. Nothing else matters.

I've been able to get both the Junior Coaching and Junior Recruitment upgraded since we turned Pro, (for the 1st time in the save), so those restrictions I think I've done pretty well. I don't remember too often when we were under pressure to get a result to save our job.

Yeah, I agree about the Italy think. Really not sure what is going on there. I can get offered the Italian National Team job, but I still haven;t been offered a club job in Spain. (very strange).

I asked for a course to do my badges but the board said no. Will try again at the end of the season.

We may have conceded 3 to Nantes, 5 to Saint Etienne and 4 unanswered goals to Paris FC in the Cup, but actually I don't think we are in a bad way at all.

We have already collected 9 points from 6 games and anything near that over the course of the season will see us comfortable mid-table.

I will at least be returning to a team sitting in 2nd place in Ligue 2!  (How on Earth has this happened so quickly!!!)

Halfway to the magic 40 barrier.

If we get relegated from here then I deserve to be shot. I'm at work now so can't post pics, but in the window that has just closed (I think), Gaz Ajaccio, (Who were in the relegation zone until their latest match I think), sold a player for an initial £8.75M. 😮

I think the player was home-grown too so that's a lovely but of business. I can only dream of selling home produces products for anywhere near that sort of money.

Short term goal is to just stay in Ligue 2 this season.

Medium term goal is to have a pop at promotion during 5th season in Ligue 2.

Long term goal is obviously promotion to Ligue 1 and the riches that follow.

As always though, I'm looking for a general upwards trend rather than any specific achievement or accomplishment.

I will be cranking up the scouting at the weekend though with a view to signing our first non-French player, (he will be a Spanish Basque).

New signing. Oct 2032.

He's a French Basque who came through the system at our local rivals Genets Anglet. We've signed him for an initial £20,000 with £10,000 more being paid after 50 league appearances.

He's already good enough to feature as a starter, but the scout report suggests he can improve and the fans see that.

Ligue 1. Past winners

PSG didn't get it all their own way in the early seasons of the save, with first OL and then Monaco beating them to the title in 5 of the first 8 season, but at the same time they have never finished lower than 2nd.

PSG, Monaco and Lyon have all won the title, and although nobody else has managed to finish 2nd, Marseille have managed to finish 3rd on two occasions.

PSG have won the title for 6 seasons in a row though.

Nobody has managed an unbeaten season, although Monaco got closest in 2024/25, losing just 1 game.

Monaco are currently unbeaten in 2032/33 after 12 games. (PSG have already lost).

A quite frustrating month really. We lost to a single goal at home to QRM and away to CS Sedan-Ardennes and then conceded a late equaliser at home to USBCO. We are doing ok, (better than ok), and to such an extent that I haven't even been bothered to look at the league rules, (although I would expect it's 1 auto-promotion slot and 2nd-5th qualify for Playoffs. My goal is still to avoid relegation. nothing else matters.

Lille have become a bit of a yo-yo club in recent years. While that means they might not be good enough to avoid relegation from Ligue 1, it also means they know how to win Ligue 2.

Saint Etienne are a shadow of their former selves, (after a recent fall from grace), and find themselves languishing mid-table in Ligue 2.

I was looking for a Saint Etienne song that reflected their new position in French football and came across a trailer for a film that they were part of. (The band not the Football club obviously).

Remember that Junior Coaching is all about CA and Youth Recruitment is all about PA.

The suggestion therefore is that where our potential might be decent, the CA should be pretty good.

You are like me and ask for those two upgrades, specifically, every time you can.  Of course, being in the black is essential to being approved, hence why it took so long for you to get any upgrades.

Talking raw stats, good junior coaching and above average youth recruitment *should* net you one or two players with PA over 130ish every year.  Chance of a real diamond, obviously, though unlikely.  Their starting CA should be pretty decent too.  Of course, a lot of this depends on your HOY.

130 PA means nothing top me. I don't know what level is what. Everything will always be relative to what I already have.

I'm hoping that the starting CA improves significantly at least over the next year or so.

As for a lot depending on my HoYD....... I'm not sure I agree. I'm not sure that the attributes of a HoYD have much impact on anything.

I couldn't believe it when we smashed 6 unanswered goals past top of the table Nantes, but I was equally disappointed when we could only draw in the league against them 2 weeks later. We saw of Saint Etienne and Gaz. Ajaccio though to keep up the pressure at the top of the table, which is interestingly Lille now who have over-hauled Nantes after 4 wins on the bounce.

150 is like Malang Sarr, Dan-Axel Zagadou...wonderkids that can have a career at the top, top clubs. So 130 would be pretty damn good for your squad I'd guess. I'm more like you, only looking at the star ratings for how they compare to my own squad. So if I'm at a top, top team it doesn't matter that 1.5 PA player will still make it as a professional and I could profit if I keep loaning him until he's 23, he's of no use to me and I'll let him go.

HoYD can influence player positions / style, and if you get one of those "freak" newgens he'll have an outsize effect on their personality (with other youth staff also affecting)

Some good results in Ligue 2 so far, are you going to be the French-Basque Guy Roux by the end of this?

Let me break this to you gently.......

I have also never heard of Malang Sarr and Dan-Axel Zagadou.

The way I have played FM for a few years now means that I never really have interaction with real wonderkids never mind about managed them.

Ahaha fair enough. Well, Zagadou is a rotation for the Dortmund team currently topping the Bundesliga and on FM has 5 star PA potential for them, and Sarr has 66 apps for Nice in Ligue 1 aged just 19 too. So a guy just below their level is good.

I know that's what we are told @DazRTaylorbut I'm saying that I'm not sure I agree at all.

For example the highlighted attributes for a HoYD are as follows.

WWY
JPA
JPP

So in what way do these attributes impact on the players who populate the Youth Intake?

I have a (F.Pro) HoYD and I understand and agree how his personality impacts on players who come through the Academy, but I am unconvinced as to the effectiveness of any of the 3 attributes listed above.

If you know something that I know then feel free to share.

I don't want something 2nd hand though. I want things that you have worked out based on your games. There is too much repeating of what others have said on these forums and just because it's written does not make it true.

On the other hand, I am more than willing to consider opinions based on experience even if there is little supporting evidence. At the moment I am still undecided.

I follow a non-League English team in real life, (Barnet), and don't take much notice of foreign leagues.
