PaulHartman71
Would be pretty pleased if Inter did come calling after all this time waiting for an 'I' job Good read this! thanks Mikal In other news things are looking pretty decent in the new season, 8 games in and we're 7th, 2 points off 1st but our GD is a bit crap. Also key man Mark Poel is out for 4 months which is quite worrying.
JackJCFC
Started well, think you'll get a top 9 finish comfortably, just hope you can get in the top position so the playoffs are easier.
TheGreatTraveler
You can probably end first witha good run of results.
cerud
Any "I" news yet?
cswalk08
Looking for an I club, why not Inter? Stupid playoffs hopefully this year is your year.
PaulHartman71
Still not any 'I' jobs available but I am still regularly checking the job centre! We've now progressed up to 5th place and things are still relatively tight, I think a league win may be beyond us but I guess there's still a small chance of doing it. deltablue
Well, good luck in the playoffs at least.
Scarman
You should make the play-offs at the very least, though I would hate to be in that league system. Confusing as anything
JackJCFC
Looks like your going to have a shot at the playoff's.
SRL88
Yup. Play-off's look to be the way you will have to go.
PaulHartman71
Yeah definitely gearing myself up for another stressful play-off campaign, thought I found an escape to Scotland, I thought wrong though... Luckily they accepted my apology
deltablue
Oh deary me. That didn't go well.
cerud
Oops...I guess Haarlem doesn't know about your alphabet philosophy
PaulHartman71
Bit of a disappointment as we're now no longer technically in a play-off place, with guaranteed spots to Volendam and FC Eindhoven they're going to prove annoying as we have to finish at least 7th now. deltablue
Blast, could be a bad end in Holland.
rancer890
It's getting close....hope you can get to that 7th spot minimum.
JackJCFC
Hope you can get 7th, its quite stupid that the 12th best team could get promoted.
PaulHartman71
NEC winning a period late on really cocked things up as it meant we had to come 6th rather than 7th, luckily we just about managed it getting in on goal difference, do have to feel bad for De Graafschap and especially RKC though. Our first round game is with NEC, since they came 16th hopefully we can dispatch of them with relative ease.
deltablue
16th! That says it all about the playoff system.
cerud
How does 16th make the playoffs?
PaulHartman71
There's 4 periods in the season and the best performers during those 4 separate periods get a bye to the play-off's wherever they are in the table. Bit crap really!
PaulHartman71
Despite NEC getting an away goal, I'm pretty confident of advancing to the 2nd round of the play-off's.
TheGreatTraveler
Nice start to the Play-offs.
JackJCFC
16th is crazy, i wonder if its possible to come last and qualify for thee playoffs?
CityAndColour
There's 4 periods in the season and the best performers during those 4 separate periods get a bye to the play-off's wherever they are in the table. Bit crap really! So did they not win a match in the other three periods or something? What if you win a period and finish in a relegation spot, as Jack has said?
PaulHartman71
In the 4th period they picked up 17 points, which gained them the spot as the only other side to do better was Utrecht who already had a spot. The last 2 screen-shots of the league table show their (and FC Emmen who were a close 2nd, aside from Eindhoven who also already had a spot, with 14 points in the period) remarkable run. I'm still unsure as to whether a team in bottom place can qualify for the play-off within this rule, I might ask someone in the Dutch thread in the football forum. PaulHartman71
FC Den Bosch await in the 2nd round!

PaulHartman71
Yeah the teams in 16th/17th in the Eredivisie also go into the play-off acting as a way of avoiding relegation for them.
Scarman
Good start to the play-offs, hopefully you can do it this year

SRL88
Good luck in the next round fella.
PaulHartman71
Not the best result but we looked much the better team so I am confident going into the final leg, not sure what the game is talking about with the Poel penalty claim, definitely wasn't a penalty ffs
PaulHartman71
I was bricking it at the end as I thought it was going to extra-time and penalties, I even subbed 2 players on specifically for penalties in-case it went to it. But it turns out there is another twist to the Jupiler League play-off system. Away goals/draws in general count for nothing! For 3 seasons I haven't realised, but away goals don't count, and in a seemingly ancient long gone out of fashion way, they just throw in a replay "decider" It gets better - Every game in this round has gone to a decider! Scarman
Wow, the Dutch system is just getting more and more weird
noikeee
I warned you that league was strange, but didn't realize it was that strange.
JackJCFC
Crazy system, very strange they've all gone to that stage aswell.
PaulHartman71
A comfortable 3-0 win sees us through to a 3rd round game against AGOVV to decide whether we'll be in the Eredivisie next year or not.
JackJCFC
Very good win there, just one more game for promotion! Good luck.

PaulHartman71
A decent first leg considering we were playing away from home, pretty confident we can win the return leg at home and finally get promoted to the Eredivisie!
W I L M
Just been through every page, and I have to say I'm enjoying it. But I'm wondering when do you think you will hit the big time?
deltablue
Just one win away! Indeed promotion and leaving Haarlem in the Eredivisie will help your future prospects.
PaulHartman71
Just been through every page, and I have to say I'm enjoying it. But I'm wondering when do you think you will hit the big time? Nice to see you enjoyed it Not sure when I'll hit the big time, if we get promoted this year a season in the Eredivisie should boost my reputation up a fair amount. I/J/K don't really have any 'big time clubs' apart from Inter and Juve, probably don't have a high enough reputation for those two just yet, so I'd say it's unlikely I'll be in charge of a pretty big club until around L/M where there's quite a few pretty big teams. PaulHartman71
Despite heavy concern late on that A - AGOVV would score a 'winner', and B - that away goals would count in the final round and not the other 2 previous rounds (would seem fitting with Jupiler League's random rules), we will now have to play a final deciding game with AGOVV, to decide whether we'll be in the Eredivisie next year or not. Will mean I'll have had to have played 8 games to decide whether we go up or not Madness compared to the Championship's mere 3!
cswalk08
*Headdesk* *Headdesk* *Headdesk* *Headdesk* Why does it make no sense!!!!!!
PaulHartman71
I suppose on this particular occasion I can't complain, under any normal league rules we'd have lost on goal difference Oh and to clear up the "if a side wins a period but is in the relegation zone" question, here is what the Dutch researcher said - Very unlikely as there is only ONE relegation place, and relegation can only occur if the Topklasse team has decided to go for promotion - however...ultimately the relegation would outweigh the period win and said period would move on to the runner-up (or the first team in that period to not have won a period) We have had situations where teams finished quite low and still actually promoted - I believe Heerenveen finished somewhere like 15th but promoted thanks to winning the "Nacompetitie"
