Notes:

After sticking with the Bandits for longer than most – two seasons – he got his big move to Old Trafford, where he would spend the rest of his career. At the time, he probably imagined that it would lead him to many domestic and European honours, but with the club struggling, he could only look on enviously at some of his Chelsea rivals.

However, unlike them, he always commanded a place in the first team, and settled into a defensive midfield role after spending around four seasons at the attacking end of play. He scored plenty, created plenty, and was man of the match in almost 10% of the games he played him, and indication of his value to the team. He was never able to claim the Premiership, taking only lower league titles home, but did manage both the FA Cup and the League Cup in his time. Despite Man Utd’s struggles, he always stayed loyal.

His club struggles never stopped him from being a regular at international level, where he managed a century of caps, winning the World Cup twice, but missing out on the European Championships. Playing in the holding role, he was never a major goalscorer for his country, and also suffered the indignity of two red cards early in his career. This didn’t stop his performances being superb, however.

On a personal level, his lack of regular European football prevented his abilities being showcased to the world on a more regular basis, so he was never able to claim any honours, but he came close in 2012, after a high goalscoring season for his then high-flying team.

He will be remembered fondly at Man Utd, but in twenty years time may be a forgotten talent.

Did the players have any Prefered Moves when they were created?

And did they get any during their career?

How have the player's mental states changed since they were created? I realize this will be hard to check for the retired players, but can you have a look at those that have not yet retired to see what changes, if any, have occurred?

No - their talent alone was good enough, only the idiots were created with special moves, and only the negative ones.

I don't think players gain preferred moves - can someone confirm that?

Great spot! It came about in a home league match against Southampton. After having a man sent off in the first half, the Bandits went a goal down just before half time. In the second half they fought back to equalise, and hung on with ten men until the 79th minute.

In injury time, they forced a corner, and Abbott decided to even the odds by surging upfield. After an initial header was saved, the ball fell to him ten yards out, and he rifled home a valuable equaliser.

If it weren't for those two points dropped, Southampton would've gone up as champions.

Generally, their ambition has risen from 1 to 2 or 3, but otherwise, no change.

A quick heads up on the coming season - it seems my fears were correct, Martin Lawton is a rubbish manager.

It's January, and the Bandits sit 23rd. Lawton's position is under threat - he is listed as under pressure.

The very best thing that could happen is for the Bandits to lose their next five games, Lawton to get sacked, and a new talented manager come in to save the day.

Stay tuned....

They can gain preferred moves through tutoring, but I don't think they can in any other way. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

some 16 or 17 year olds definitely 'grow' preferred moves on their own. presumably the lack of PPMs in the bandits indicates that these are set as the players' PPMs and come out as they develop.

With regards to PPM's, some FRED's appear with PPM's, and some develop them over their first couple of seasons.

If they haven't got them after a couple of years, then the only way to gain them is by tutouring, (or so it appears).

bandits is my fav soap opera since the sopranos ended weakly.

It’s been a pressured few seasons for the Bandits. Having sacked Gary Perry, Dean Glover came in, and having not looked the part, he retired. Martin Lawton was hired at the beginning of last season, but with his CA and PA of 93, and attributes of a scout, he was clearly not the man for the job.

And so it proved. After an excellent start, where they picked up ten points from four games, the Bandits went into freefall, being knocked out of all cups at an early stage and slipping into the relegation zone.

Eventually, in the new year, and with the Bandits looking doomed in 22nd, Lawton was fired, with Liam Marsden, the assistant, taking over as caretaker. His CA and PA were 120, and he looked much more like a coach than he predecessor, and they won the only match he presided over, before a permanent replacement was made.

Danny Gamble was hired with the Bandits teetering on the edge of the drop zone, in 20th. Like Marsden, his CA and PA were 120, and at 42, he has time on his side. He didn’t have the best start, however, as the quick manager turnover took its toll on the player. With only a handful of games to go, they were 22nd, and five points from safety, but he managed to turn their fortunes around with a few wins to clamber back to the safety spot of 20th, with two games to go.

With three teams already relegated, and the rest of the league distance above them, it was to be one of the Bandits and Boston for the last relegation spot. The Bandits led by one point going into the penultimate match, which would see the rivals play each other in a virtual decider. Twice the Bandits led, but both times they were pegged back, and the 2-2 scoreline left the relegation battle undecided going into the final day.

The Bandits knew they had to match Boston’s result, as despite the one point lead, Boston had the better goal difference. It started well, with Boston going a goal down early, but at half time that remained the score , while the Bandits were 2-0 down and hoping for a favour. Although the Bandits got back to 2-1, they lost, and desperately needed Boston to lose. Already relegated Southend did them a massive favour, sending Boston down with a 2-0 defeat.

So they made it. All in all, they end the season stronger than they started it, because they got rid of a manager who was only going to take them backwards. Now, perhaps, with a younger and more talented man at the helm, they can finally move forward. But it was close.

Continues to play for England, adding three more caps to reach ninety, and has extended his contract to go on for two more years. Despite his 40th birthday being just around the corner, his CA is still 180 and he can continue for some time yet.

Notes: After a tremendous season, in which he helps Leeds win their win Premiership title in ten years, and the League Cup as well, he remains first choice and playing at an extremely high standard. His international career also continues, with three more caps making a total of 136. He has two years left on his contract, which would take him until the day before his 42nd birthday, and with his CA remaining so high, that isn’t unrealistic.

Notes: Forces his way back into a more regular first team spot, although Tottenham struggle to 11th, and he doesn’t manage the same level of performance as before. However, he is finding football difficult to let go of, and has announced that he will retire next summer, as he turns 41. He does, however, have a staff profile now, and with a CA of 90 and a PA of 110 it seems his career will continue beyond his playing days. His international career is surely over, with 84 caps and two goals.

Notes: His Arsenal contract ran out last summer and was not renewed, and the 39 year old legend spends the whole season looking for a new club, but without joy. He decides that enough is enough, and will retire this summer. His international career will end with 68 caps and two goals.

Notes: Refuses to give up his football career, even with Hull struggling in the Championship. He eventually helps them to 16th in their first season after promotion, but his performances aren’t what they used to be. Will surely retire with 78 caps and nine goals, as he is a long way from international football these days.

England started the group stage of the European Championship badly, losing 2-0 to Germany, but won their other two games to qualify for the quarter finals. However, they went out at that point, losing 1-0 to Spain. Eventually, Italy took the title, beating Czech Rep in the final.

England are not playing qualifiers this time around, because after a wait of 64 years, the 2030 World Cup will return home.

Leeds came back from ten years without the Premiership, to claim the title ahead of Chelsea, who finished second, so after seven Premiership trophies in a row, they’ve now missed out two years running. Arsenal fell from champions to seventh, while Man Utd and especially Liverpool struggled.

Premiership

Chelsea gained a consolation for losing out on the league, picking up the FA Cup ahead of Man City, while Leeds capped a fine season, beating Arsenal in the League Cup final.

Real Madrid retained the Champions League, hammering Arsenal in the final to record their eighth win in twelve years, and condemning Arsenal to another cup final defeat, while it was disappointment for another English team in the UEFA Cup final, Aston Villa losing out to Valencia.

Summary

The Bandits have certainly had an unhappy few years. Four managers in the last four years since they sacked Gary Perry, but perhaps now they have a man in charge who can stop the rot and carry them forward.

Martin Lawton was certainly not up to scratch in the role, but fortunately this was spotted with enough time left in the season to save them. With him in charge, they were surely headed back to League Two. Danny Gamble has done a decent job since he came in, but this summer is one where he needs to plug a few gaps in the squad and prepare them for a bit of stability.

The ex-Bandits are certainly looking to prolong their careers. It looked certain that the outfield players especially would retire this summer, but only one has, and the other two have both gained staff profiles – it seems they can’t leave the game behind. As for the two keepers, they both still have CAs in the 180s, and can easily continue for a few years yet.

Right Mid 1 has struggled as assistant manager of Chelsea. Seven Premiership titles in a row before he arrived, now they can’t win one. They did pick up the FA Cup though.

England failed badly at the European Championship, losing out in the quarter finals – they are still number one in the world, but only just. They will host the next World Cup.

Bandit’s former manager watch

Justin Edinburgh took Stoke to ninth in the Championship, a solid result if not the playoff spot they were looking for.

Once again, Steve Brackstone got sacked by a side he’d taken to the Championship drop zone. This time it was Coventry, bottom of the league, who gave him his P45, but they rose only one place after he left and still got relegated. He was hired by Bolton, 19th in the Championship, and he kept them in that spot.

Gary Perry’s Sheff Utd dropped four places to 16th in League One.

Dean Glover has retired.

Martin Lawton is without a club.

Players in last season’s top 20 who have dropped out of the top 20:

None

Slightly worryingly, the top 20 once again contains players with a CA below 100, which is something that hasn’t been the case for the last few year. This suggests that the squad is getting weaker, although this may be simply because no big signings were made.

For some reason, Martin Lawton saw fit to get rid of three players, in Noble, Millership and Harris, who could’ve done a good job for the Bandits for a good few years, and not really replace them. That said, Pullen, at 24, looks a decent signing.

No doubt they are weaker than last season, another footprint left behind by Martin Lawton, who had a decent squad when he took over, but over the course of two years removed many players with serious ability and replaced them with rubbish, if at all. At 90+ for example, he had 33 players when he took over – now, just two years later, the number is only 24.

Time for a change. Can the new man take them forward again?

The current crop

We all know that Mensah-Omari Kinch was an absolute legend at the Bandits, but what about the current crop. Who are their current stars? Who should be cheered from the rafters and despair shown when a manager lets them go?

Ben Abbott, the 28 year old keeper, has taken over the gloves from legend Atkinson, who spent 15 years at the Bandits, and is doing a fine job, even scoring last season. He’s been at the club for four years and has been first choice ever since.

Alan Townsend is an uncompromising centre back. The 29 year old picks up his fair share of cards, but is a Bandits favourite having come through their youth system 14 years ago.

31 year old striker Daryl Jenkins has had a strange career. He came through the Fulham youth system, played for the England Under 19s, but spent seven years without a club before the Bandits spotted something six years ago. Since then, he has scored 72 goals for the club and is a consistent performer.

Pat Mike, his 27 year old striker partner, joined the Bandits on a free from Forest Green three years ago, and has scored 48 goals since he joined, endearing himself to the Bandits faithful.

Life begins at 40

With all the ex-Bandits turning 40 this summer, and four of them continuing to play, it can be noted that there are plenty older people still involved in the game at all levels.

Players

Leading the way is Boca’s 41 year old legendary keeper, Bruno Centeno, who was never capped by Argentina despite an illustrious career.

Lee Butcher, 39, also plays at the top level with Man City, and his CA of 177 is similar to the ex-Bandit stoppers. He is still their first choice and also turns 40 later in the year.

In the outfield, the two remaining Bandits are clear leaders in older players still playing competitive football.

Non-Players

Alfredo di Stefano is an old man. He remains a director at the ever successful Real Madrid at the ripe old age of 102.

Behind him, only CSKA Moscow’s general manager, Vladimir Sal’kov (92) and Keith Haslam, Mansfield’s managing director (90) are in their 90s.

The eldest active manager is 66 year old David Moyes, who is currently out of work.

Notes:

After struggling to break into the Bandits team alongside his illustrious teammates, he moved to Arsenal where he would spend a tremendous twenty years. In his time there, he made close to a thousand appearances, and more often than not produced the goods on a regular basis. His value to the team was demonstrated by his 77 man of the match awards in his time there.

He suffered a little from a discipline point of view, picking up over a hundred cards in a career that saw him sent off ten times. But he won everything you could win at club level at least once, both domestically and in Europe.

On the international stage, he also won everything you could win, which completes his medal cabinet, but his total of 68 caps is less than many of his former teammates. He did feature regularly, though, and always played to a superb level when called upon, helping secure the highest honours you can win.

On a personal level, he was in contention for awards later in his career than some, but his peak came in 2018, when he was named World Player of the Year.

He proved that you didn’t have to move to Chelsea to win trophies. Despite only winning things once or twice, he won every major domestic, European and international medal, and was rewarded on a personal level. He has every reason to look back over his career as a storming success.

Another delightful update, those keepers are impressing me immensely, shame about the bandits, I can see it being 5 years before they're promoted, if they don't go the other direction.

I wonder if the outfield players that have carried on were members of teams that played slow tempo football, prolonging their longevity?
