Rasmussen Rage at loss on the Coast

Fanghunters FC chairman is currently being held in a polcie station for threatening to kill the entire Fanghunters side after their pathetic 3-2 loss away to Blackpool. When asked for comment, Rasmussen said "I hope the team can win promotion on Easter Monday by rising from the dead after what I'm going to do with the idiots"

Panthers Fail To Win... No-one Cares

After Steel Panthers failed to beat a side who had 10 men for over half the game, you'd expect their manager and fans to be disappointed. However, the crowd all left with a collective "Meh", reflected by the players' choice of sunglasses and beach shorts in place of their traditional purple strip. Even Stix Zadinia seemed to have his mind on other things:

"Well, we played a good margherita, but the tequilas just couldn't put their pina coladas in the brandy. Beer, vodka rum."

Carn Dees... we should start up a fan club! Plucka, Striker and me? :p

Plucka, judging by your team name, you are a Queenslander as well - an interesting coincidence. I've lived in Brisbane all my life but I'm a big Dees fan.. as you can probably see from my username. ;)

Anyway Striker, I'll be getting behind the Demons for this challenge anyway, so you've got my support.

Liedson ecstatic after late, late winner

Brennan United January signing Liedson was over the moon after sealing a remarkable turnaround at the Brennan Arena this afternoon.

"That was a massive, massive goal for us" said the Brazilian. "It's grabbed us a vital 3 points when it was most needed, it's given us a very good platform from which to build on and we should now be favourites to avoid the drop"

The Brazilian also paid tribute to Michael Carrick, who's 35 yard screamer set United up for the win. "It was an amazing goal, i've never seen anything quite like it! said the Brazilian. "He's been trying that sort of thing in training for a few weeks and he's been gradually getting better at it, but i never of thought that he'd have the audacity and skill to pull it off in such a pressured situation like that!"

Tompkins delighted as Badgers move out of drop zone

Joe Tompkins was delighted as Boreham Badgers won 2-0 against Saffron United to move out of the drop zone. "It feels like the first time in ages we've been above the bottom 3. Hopefully it can stay that way." Tompkins was hesitant when asked if he was confident on staying up however. "We don't have the easiest of run-ins so it will be tough but stranger things have happened"

Ramos lost for words following loss

Following Tibbolinis dramatic 1-2 loss today, Juande Ramos seemed lost for words as to how to explain it. 'Well I just dont know, we control the game, and lose, now we are 18th'

Fans of Tibbolini should be ready for one of the most dramatic ends to a season at the bottom as they look to cling into a place in the premier league.

PREMIER LEAGUE

Two midweek games were re-arranged for this week with Discworld and Didsbury Dynamoes in action in the league instead of their Champions League Quarter Final Second Leg that should have taken place this week. The Disks were at home to Ankh-Morpork against Steel Panthers with both sides looking to bounce back after weekend disappointment in their European chase with defeats against rivals for the Europa League spots. Meanwhile, Didsbury Dynamoes had chance to close the gap to safety down to just a point as they travelled to Isle of Man Metros. The Dynamoes win at Northern Extreme at the weekend had given them renewed hope whilst the Metros needed a win to move away from the drop zone with just three points the gap.

Discworld vs. Steel Panthers

Another disappointment for the Steel Panthers as they suffered away day defeat for the second time in five days. Despite an early ninth minute strike from ROBINHO, the Disks mounted a comeback with XABI ALONSO equalising just before half time. The win was sealed just after the hour as NICHOLAS BENDTNER struck and the Disks remain in the Europa League hunt in tenth place, two points and two places behind the Panthers in eighth, with six/seven games remaining in the Premier League.

Isle of Man Metros vs. Didsbury Dynamoes

Two goals in five minutes crushed the Dynamoes’ hopes of a second straight away win that would lift them to the brink of safety as the Isle of Man Metros moved six points clear of the bottom three with Louis Van Gaal’s first win as manager at the Metronome. TUNCAY struck the first on 22 minutes and this was followed on 26 minutes by LUCA TONI. The Dynamoes are now four points from safety with quite an inferior goal difference and need at least four wins from their final fixtures to stand a chance.

Here is the current league table in the Premier League:

We’ll look in more detail at the run-in fixtures for the main sides involved later.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTER FINALS

With Discworld and Didsbury Dynamoes playing next week in their second leg (Discworld travel to the South Manchester Stadium 2-0 up after the first leg), all Top2Bottom eyes turned towards Karmichael Hunt’s Queensland Origin as they travelled to Portugal to face Porto. A 0-0 draw at the Suncorp Stadium in the first leg meant it was always going to be a tight game and, in the end, one goal settled it. Fortunately for the Origin, that goal came from the head of LEDLEY KING twelve minutes from time and they move into the Semi Finals where they have been drawn at home in the first leg against the winner of the Discworld and Didsbury tie. This guarantees us one Top2Bottom team in the Champions League Final in May.

In the other Semi Final, Italian giants Roma and Inter Milan will meet after both saw off Spanish opponents. Inter Milan won 1-0 in the Nou Camp to seal a 3-1 aggregate win whilst Roma won 1-0 in Rome against Real Madrid to win 2-1 on aggregate.

SEMI FINALS: Roma vs. Inter Milan; Queensland Origin vs. Discworld/Didsbury Dynamoes.

UEFA CUP QUARTER FINALS

The race to be the final winners of the UEFA Cup moves into the Semi Final stages with four teams into the next round. Sevilla beat Fiorentina 2-0 in their second leg to win 3-2 on aggregate whilst Benfica’s 0-0 draw in the Stadium of Light with Celtic was enough to seal their place 1-0 on aggregate.

After a 1-1 draw in Germany, Schalke and Premier League strugglers, Blackthorn Athletic, met at Franconian Crescent to determine who would face Benfica at home in the Semi Final First Leg. An early goal from Sven Engels gave the German side a precious away goal and the lead and caused many worries until HATEM BEN ARFA levelled the tie completely in the 28th minute for the Rose Bushes. By half time, Athletic led. MARIO GOMEZ – German international – making it 2-1 just before the whistle. The game remained tight but the Rose Bushes could relax on 71 minutes as BEN ARFA added a third with FRANCESCO TOTTI and MARIO GOMEZ adding a comfortable feel as Blackthorn Athletic ran out 5-1 winners on the night, 6-2 on aggregate.

At the Eagle Arena, Essex were in the driving seat from the first leg after a 3-2 away win over Saffron United in the first leg. However, the Sharks were not giving the game up and travelled to Essex eager to seal a Semi Final tie with Sevilla. A tight and nervy second half exploded into life in first half stoppage time as Brazilian striker JO put the Eagles in front on the night. JO added two more in the opening ten minutes of the second half and as the hopes of Saffron United died, NIKO KRANJCAR added a fourth on 81 minutes to seal a 4-0 win and a 7-2 aggregate scoreline.

SEMI FINALS: Blackthorn Athletic vs. Benfica; Sevilla vs. Essex Eagles.

COCA COLA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME 43 – EASTER MONDAY

Two days on from the unbelievable Saturday afternoon entertainment and the Coca Cola Championship decided to give us another key afternoon of games involving the five Top2Bottom Championship sides looking for promotion to the Premier League. For some, it was more likely (i.e. Fanghunters) than others (i.e. VfB Rammstein) but there was still hope and excitement for all sides as the finish line to a long, hard season moved into view.

And for three of the five sides, they’ll end up racing another two or three laps!

Stadium:Siberia – Fanghunters vs. Ipswich Town

Nervous tension was beginning to sweep around Stadium:Siberia. Defeat at Blackpool two days before had seen the Fangies fail to secure promotion and the arrival of Ipswich Town – a thorn in the side of many of the Top2Bottom sides this season already – was not a welcome sight. A win and promotion would be sealed; a win and a failure by Melbourne to win would also confirm that the Coca Cola Championship trophy would be heading the way of the Fanghunters and their manager, Sam Yates.

Things didn’t start well. With 19 minutes of the game gone, star man Kaka had to be replaced after he took a knock to his ribs. It’s not a serious injury but when Kaka goes off, you lose a lot of star quality.

Two minutes later and some good news at last. Jonathan Stead of Ipswich Town was sent off for a dangerous tackle and the Tractor Boys were down to ten men. Would it work in the Fangies’ favour? Or would it make the visitors even more content to sit and defend?

36 minutes. The moment the 28,000 had been yearning for. CRISTIANO RONALDO relieving some of the tension with a strike to make it 1-0. Were the league leaders on their way to the Premier League?

Straight after half time, they doubled their lead. 49 minutes on the clock but the usual goalscorer: RUUD VAN NISTELROOY with his 25th goal of the season. 2-0 to Fanghunters. Surely now?

They don’t do things the easy way ... Ten man Ipswich gave it a go. And experienced head LEE BOWYER got in on goal and made it 2-1. Tension swept the terraces again ...

But it was the Fangunters’ day. Promotion to the Premier League confirmed with a 2-1 win. But would they also be getting their hands on the Coca Cola Championship trophy?

Loftus Road – QPR vs. Melbourne

Failure to win by Melbourne would crown the Fanghunters as champions then. However, that was the thing that mattered least to the Demons. Poor recent form and a late goal against at the Land of the Chestnuts last time out meant that the Mighty Squirrels were now just two points behind. Only a win would guarantee that Melbourne would remain second in the table.

News of a goal filtered through from Carrow Road after quarter of an hour. But the game was tight and nervy and neither side were able to create very much at all. Half time arrived with Melbourne still goalless and the Fanghunters heading up as champions.

As the hour approached, the deadlock was broken. And it was good news for the Demons’ fans, something to cheer after a miserable few weeks. ROMAN BEDNAR’s header in front of the 3000 travelling fans making it 1-0. Thirteen minutes later and relief! Another cross into the box and another header from BEDNAR – two nil and three valuable, valuable points.

Maybe not. Christian Romanic sent off and the Demons down to ten men. Would this give QPR a foothold and a chance? Yes. Within two minutes, FERNANDO LLORENTE scored and the tension re-surfaced. News of two more goals at Carrow Road trickled through on radios. But the most important thing was Melbourne winning – and they were winning.

Injury time. Disaster. FERNANDO LLORENTE again. QPR back from the dead to snatch a point.

Fanghunters, champions of the Coca Cola Championship and promoted. Congratulations to them.

But what of third placed Canadian Mighty Squirrels?

Carrow Road – Norwich City vs. Canadian Mighty Squirrels

A draw for Melbourne meant that a win would take the Squirrels level on points and goal difference with Melbourne – a two goal win would mean that they would go second with just three games remaining of the season.

Thirteen minutes into the game came the first goal. ANTONIO DI NATALE with the freedom of Norwich to tuck home and send the 4000 visiting Squirrels into raptures. The fans were believing now.

Just after half time though, problems. Glen Johnson sent off for the Mighty Squirrels.

1-0 it stayed until into the second half. News from Loftus Road not good as Melbourne went one-nil up. So what? ANTONIO DI NATALE again in the right place for the Squirrels, 2-0 and coasting. The ten men were on their way to a precious victory.

Maybe not. KIM KALLSTROM striking for the Canaries and now it’s hearts in mouths as Norwich press for a leveller. Great news from Loftus Road as QPR score once ... and then twice. Melbourne drawing and Canadian Mighty Squirrels fighting, desperately blocking, hanging on ... Victory. Full time. A 2-1 win and still third but dead level at the top.

Southampton 1-4 Joga Bonitos Juniors

A double from GONZALO HIGUAIN meant that the Joga Juniors won 4-1 at St. Mary’s and hung onto their faint hopes of automatic promotion in the process. Further goals from DAVID SUAZO and SIMAO meant that the Juniors would win 4-1 and they move to seven points off second place with three games left.

Burnley 3-3 VfB Rammstein

Goals from David Nugent, Royston Drenthe and David Aganzo gave Burnley a 3-0 half time lead over the Ramms as they looked to claim fourth place but were denied spectacularly. However, a second half fightback of epic proportions shows good qualities that could well be needed for success in the Play Offs. MANCINI, CARLOS TEVEZ and KEIRRISON with the goals to earn a point.

Here is the league table with three to play:

Northern Extreme lead fans on a merry dance

McMaster today asked fans of NEFC to follow his lead as he leads them to the end of the season....

Och everybody listen to me! i ken its been 2 steps forward and 1 step back with us recently but we've a game in hand and a superior goal difference. We're coming to the end of the song and its now we show our fancy footwork and dance our way to the title!

We know New Bloc are flat footed, Coedpaeth can barely tie their shoelaces and The Hawks just dont know their left from their right!!!!

Lester unhappy with Wizards discipline

Welsh Wizards manager Ryan Lester has hit out at his teams discipline following their 2-1 victory over Steel Panthers. The Wizards were reduced to 10 men for the second consecutive game but have held on for victory in both.

"Of course, I'm very happy with the victory, and we are now very close to the European spots, however, we cannot afford to keep giving the opposition the advantage in these vital matches" said Lester.

"I've had a word with John and Nemanja and they've both apologised for their mistakes and we will be working hard in training to ensure it doesn't happen again."

When asked to comment on the Premier League title chase, Lester had only this to say "New Bloc are gonna' bottle it"

New Bloc may or may not bottle it!

;)

Getting back to the game, a win in the Quarter Final, excellent news. Plus, 2nd leg at home in the next round against Sevilla. Excellent

Schmermann stills believes

When interviewed about the disappointing 2-0 loss last night, Didsbury Dynamoes trigger-happy chairman seemed upbeat about his sides chances to stay up

"Lets hope we can do a Hull, and not a Leeds!" he proclaimed cheerfully

Andy, if you are going to the game today, I wish you no luck whatsoever.

QPR fan then? I am going. It could be a bit tasty today. Blackwell is in real trouble and the return of Mr Warnock will do nothing to help him. If QPR come and frustrate/beat United today, our Play Off hopes are over AND the fans will show their disgruntlement. There's even talk of a car park demo like we had for Robson! Our ***** football has been bearable while we've been winning but now we're sliding the fans are very unhappy! There is no way we should be ninth in a crap division like the Championship is this season.

Yeah, im a Rangers fan. I quite fancy us, with the way we have been playing, to at least snatch a draw today. Should be a good game though. If you regularly check the Championship Thread in the Football Forum, i'll probably post in there later on so let me know how the game was

I think you'll come and have a go at us and it'll pay off. Pessimistic maybe but I think United 1-2 QPR and Blackwell resigning by 6pm.

HEADLINES.jpg

SEASON CONCLUSION: PREVIEW OF THE RUN-IN

With the FA Cup, Champions League and UEFA Cup Semi Final draws now made, three games remaining and one of the promotion spots sealed in the Coca Cola Championship and just six/seven games left in the Premier League, it’s time for SPORTS.tv to cast an eye over the remainder of the season and give you an indication of what’s still to come.

FA CUP SEMI FINALS:

This week sees the return of the FA Cup and four teams in action as they look to secure a return trip to Wembley in May for the FA Cup Final. Out of the four teams, two in particular have reasons to have taken their eye off their FA Cup exploits of late. New Bloc lead the Premier League and have been focused on retaining their position on top of the Premier League with the likes of Inland Valley Hawks, Coedpoeth United, Northern Extreme and Queensland Origin hunting them down. In fact, the Premier League leaders will face one of their rivals – Queensland Origin – in the Semi Final and the Origin have recently crept into contention for the Premier League title although it’s still quite a long shot. The one remaining Coca Cola Championship side – Canadian Mighty Squirrels – have spent the last month on a superb run of form that has seen them haul back Melbourne in second place as they look to secure a place in the Premier League next season. The final Semi Final place has gone to Essendon who have seen their season peter out into mediocrity and to be fair to manager Mark Mota, the Bombers’ season is now only alive because of the Cup.

The Semi Finals at Wembley take place this weekend live and exclusive on SPORTS.tv. First up, we have the all-Premier League clash between title rivals New Bloc and Queensland Origin followed by the second FA Cup Semi Final between Canadian Mighty Squirrels and Essendon. Which two sides will return to the famous new stadium for the FA Cup Final in May?

SPORTS.tv says:

New Bloc have been wobbling of late so we wouldn’t be surprised to see Queensland Origin win through to the final in May in the first Semi Final. The second semi final is tighter to call but Canadian Mighty Squirrels’ form of late has been excellent and they could just have enough to see off Essendon who’ve been up and down since Christmas. We predict an FA Cup Final between Queensland Origin and Canadian Mighty Squirrels.

PREMIER LEAGUE TITLE RACE

With two of the title contenders in action in the FA Cup this week, the other three teams have a chance to close the gap on leaders New Bloc to just a point as they take to the field in Premier League action. Let’s take a look at the run-in for the five teams still involved at the top.

May 24 N.Extreme ESSENDON Badgers NEW BLOC Essex Eagles

SPORTS.tv says:

New Bloc’s lead at the top is four points from one game more (than 3rd placed Coedpoeth United) but they do have an inferior goal difference to the immediate chasing pack. New Bloc’s run-in has several winnable fixtures and if they win four of the six, I would be surprised not to see them crowned champions. However, easier said than done. The clash between Northern Extreme and Queensland Origin could be key to the Extreme’s chances of taking the season to the final day when they host New Bloc. Out of the chasing pack, I fancy Coedpoeth United to be the ones to stop New Bloc if anybody does. However, their two away trips in a row to Brennan United and London Titans will be key for me. A win on Saturday for Inland Valley Hawks over Northern Extreme would put them in a good position as well although they don’t have a game in hand like the others. So we’re going to predict that New Bloc will just about hang on and seal the title – but it will need a final day result to do so.

PREMIER LEAGUE RELEGATION BATTLE INTENSIFIES

The momentum at the foot of the Premier League swings weekly. Last weekend, it seemed certain that Didsbury Dynamoes would be climbing out of the drop zone and back from the dead after their win at Northern Extreme. Four days later, defeat to Isle of Man Metros and everybody has written them off again. Boreham Badgers were sinking fast a week and half ago, now they look like they are heading for safety. However, momentum is key at this stage of the season and it could well be that the teams currently sliding might slide all the way out of the Premier League.

Here is the current situation at the bottom:

| 12th | | Gnome'ania United | | 32 | 10 | 10 | 12 | 37 | 43 | -6 | 40 |

| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| 18th | | Tibbolini | | 32 | 9 | 6 | 17 | 49 | 55 | -6 | 33 |

| 19th | | Didsbury Dynamoes | | 32 | 8 | 6 | 18 | 31 | 54 | -23 | 30 |

| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Right now, any two of the bottom half of the table could still join Sheffield Wednesday in next season’s Coca Cola Championship although the likes of Gnome’ania United, Isle of Man Metros and Brennan United will know that one win would surely secure their Premier League places for next season.

Here are the remaining fixtures for the eight main contenders for the drop:

May 24 COEDPOETH U WEDNESDAY W.Wizards BLACKTHORN

SPORTS.tv says:

The number of “six-pointer” relegation clashes is unbelievable in the run-in with the final day clash between Saffron United and Tibbolini potentially a relegation decider as it stands. The team with the toughest looking run-in appears to be Saffron United and their lack of form recently suggests that the Coca Cola Championship is beckoning for them next season. Didsbury Dynamoes also look to have left it a little too late – although we have written them off so many times already that it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them prove us wrong again. But SPORTS.tv is going for those two to be relegated with Sheffield Wednesday.

COCA COLA CHAMPIONSHIP PROMOTION RACE

With Fanghunters’ celebrating their league title and promotion to the Premier League already, the race is on to join them. Here is the current situation at the top of the Championship.

| Pos | Inf | Team | | Pld | Won | Drn | Lst | For | Ag | G.D. | Pts |

| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Melbourne and Canadian Mighty Squirrels are locked in second and third place and it looks set to be one of those two although Joga Bonitos Juniors could mathematically still steal the second place. Here are their remaining fixtures:

Date 2nd 3rd 4th
         Melbourne C.M.Squirrels Joga Juniors
====================================================
Apr 18 Preston - Burnley
Apr 22 - Southampton -
Apr 25 SOUTHAMPTON CARDIFF CITY WATFORD
May 3 Cardiff City Burnley Coventry

SPORTS.tv says:

With the two favourites appearing to have three winnable games each, that should rule out the Joga Juniors although they could and should pick up the nine points they need. Looking at their fixtures – Southampton and Cardiff City are set to play both sides still – it could come down to goal difference or one nervous mistake that should settle the second place and we’re almost sure it’ll go down to the final day. The momentum is with Canadian Mighty Squirrels but their FA Cup exploits could get in their way so SPORTS.tv is going to predict that Melbourne will just hold the Squirrels off and secure second.

And SPORTS.tv just has a feeling about the Play Offs: the one side who’ve not been involved in the automatic promotion race all season could gatecrash the Wembley party and cause a shock. SPORTS.tv has a sneaky feeling on VfB Rammstein to be in the Premier League next season.

Tune in this weekend for the FA Cup Semi Finals and more tension-filled moments from the Premier League and Coca Cola Championship!

9 points will not be enough; I think we can win our last 3 games and but it won't be possible to finish above 2nd or 3rd as the gap is just too big - oh well at the start of the season we were told Play offs were a dream - well we've sucured that - now lets just save our form for the play off games

Decent run in for the Rebels, should be able to avoid the drop fairly comfortably!

Cracking stuff as usual Andy! :)

Thanks. The only issue I have now is I almost want to do every game live - they're all so important!

I have big things planned for the final day of the Championship and Premier League seasons.

Fanghunters Promoted as Champions

Today at Stadium:Siberia Fanghunters FC became the first T2B Championship, errrrr champions with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ipswich. When asked chairman Artemis Rasmussen said "Now I might not kill the players for losing to Blackpool, it's goot to see everything go to plan and us destroy the Championship. Next eason we'll be aiming for a champions league spot, though I feel Yates will have to step up the game though the squad is good enough." We also asked the manager on his opinions "Does this mean i'm not fired after the Blackpool defeat?"

Extreme remarks from Blanc!!!

The Gnomes manager Blanc gave a brief talk after the new head lines from Sports.tv News. The only female manager in the top leagues claimed that, with the last games pressure now gone and a happy mood in the team, the Gnomes will be the deciding factor in the top & bottom fights. "We know the oppositions will play to their best in the last weeks and this will provide us an excellent chance to show what the Gnomes are capable of!" When asked about the title race, Blanc first stated that she does not want to be drawn into a discussion but it's rumoured that she has said "New Bloc are going to bottle it!" off the records. Whether this will cause a new set of offensive talks between the managers is yet to be seen but it was surely not expected to come from a female manager for us.

Melbourne demands change in form!

With only three games to play, Melbourne are hoping for a change in fortunes from their recent form in order to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League. Melbourne are smack-bang equal with the Squirrels on both points and GD, and only lead on goals for. It is hoped that the club will be able to take a heavy win from at least one of the games, but an unnamed source has said the squad are ramping their fitness in case a playoff campaign is required.
