Looks like Higgins will destroy Keirrisons record for the top levels of football it seems. I had thought 2,000 premiership goals would stand the test of time for a few versions but it seems like Higgins will breeze past it with a few years to spare. I will get Keirrison to run you closer though Pventress, just so that when Higgins gets there it really is as hard earned as possible lol.

I hope to be the first to congratulate you when you do eventually break through Keirrisons premiership record lol.

I am not sure he will breeze past it lol

And i think alot will depend on how quickly he declines in pace as his game is all about speed and trickery, ans as he gets older this is obviously going to reduce,

I do hope to at least match Keirrisons record and run him very close !!!!!

Well Keirrison still bangs them in for fun at 35, because as he has gotten older I've just pushed his attacking slider further up lol. It seems to work, whereas before he'd go past 2/3 players and put it in, he now just has to be in the box for the passes/crosses to him and he can still put it in. Once he gets old, you just have to make sure he stays up the pitch, and do your best to get him to drop PPM's like trying to break the offside trap because he doesn't have the pace to do it anymore.

I have to manage Keirrison very carefully to avoid injuries now as well as exhaustion, I did think at 32/33 he was finished because of a knee injury which sapped his stats, but he came back triumphant. If you spend big on keeping the best supporting players around him, I think Higgins will easily get beyond Keirrison, if you start blooding youngsters around him too much and relying on youth development he could fall short because as they get older they do need to be carried into scoring positions really.

I've been able to carefully prolong players careers like Gary Neville to their mid-40's so I'm really hoping to do the same with Keirrison, possibly even considering moving to another club in a lesser league where I may be able to sign him if he could get to 2000 premiership goals, then move to the MLS for a couple of seasons he would probably still score a few hundred more with ease there lol.

It's a shame the likes of Keirrison and Higgins will never terrorise the Northern Irish leagues to see what they could do there lol.

Chris Higgins

In this season Higgins managed to pass two fantastic milestones,

He hit his 200th International goal and that was quickly followed by his 1000th for Tottenham,

His international record this season was perhaps the most insane i have ever seen,

I feel a little guilty in the fact that i set up two easy friendlies for the England squad against some minnow nations and they ended in 10 - 0 and 16 - 0 victories with Higgins scoring Eight and Twelve in each game, this was then followed up with a 12 - 1 victory over Latvia where he hit Nine, the 3rd of which was his 200th international goal,

It Gave him a ridiculous goals per game, but did let me see how he may have fared in Northern Ireland given the gap in ability :D

He also managed to overtake Josef Svec and move into 4th Place on the all time list and Keirrison is next in his sights although that is still some way off.

He's still moving along, even at age age 37. A truly remarkable season considering his age and the fact his abilities really are dropping quickly. 113 goals in 61 appearances this season moves him ever closer to Smylie's record, and with no mention of retirement yet, I can only assume he's gonna be playing next season, which is great news for the hope of breaking the record. I think a major reason for his continued success is the amount of chances he is getting created for him. Around 25 shots per game is an average for the semi-pro teams in Northern Ireland, and maybe 8 or 9 per game are falling to him, which, even with his falling ability, tends to result in a couple of goals at least. 3000 goals for East Belfast is incredibly close now, only 19 more needed in the black and white stripes for the next record in his amazing career. And only 14 needed for 1500 league goals too.

Even at international level he is still plodding along, scoring 5 goals in 6 appearances. Not exactly what I'd expect from a 36 year old, especially playing for Northern Ireland, who are not really among the best teams in the world despite the higher quality brought in by my players. A fantastic international record.

Spence Season 1: 7 goals

Spence Season 2:18 goals

Spence Season 3: 94 goals

Spence Season 4: 177 goals

Spence Season 5: 285 goals

Spence Season 6: 428 goals

Spence Season 7: 604 goals

Spence Season 8 : 774 goals

Spence Season 9 : 955 goals

Spence Season 10 : 1163 goals

Spence Season 11 : 1361 goals

Spence Season 12 : 1546 goals

Spence Season 13 : 1724 goals

Spence Season 14 : 1903 goals

Spence Season 15 : 2065 goals

Spence Season 16 : 2262 goals

Spence Season 17 : 2431 goals

Spence Season 18 : 2597 goals

Spence Season 19 : 2740 goals

Spence Season 20 : 2868 goals

Spence Season 21 : 2981 goals

Paul Spence summary so far (Age 37)

Appearances: 1353

Goals: 2981

Int'l Caps: 136

Int'l Goals: 123

Total Goals: 3104

After 3000 goals

42 goals to beat Smylie

He's incredibly close now. I'll update again when/if he gets within 10, with the standard count-down post.

Mark Stewart:

Age: 26

East Belfast Appearances: 541

East Belfast Goals: 713

Northern Ireland Caps: 41

Northern Ireland Goals: 30

Total Appearances: 582

Total Goals: 743

He's nearly 3/4 there, but still in Spence's shadow really, despite the fact Spence is nearly needing a motorised scooter to get around the field.

Well looks as though FM10 does not recognise more than 250 international goals!!!!!!!!

Did not notice this until Higgins hit 2 in a recent friendly and i recieved a message following the game advising that he was delighted to score his first goals for his country

And sure enough when i looked at his profile he now has a fantastic strike rate of 2 goals in 113 caps, Gutted to say the least,

I can still keep a track of his international exploits but just doesnt seem the same :(

Has this been an issue on any previous versions?

Yeah I think the international goals is stored as an unsigned integer, which means you can have 0-255, adding one to the binary code for 255 gives the answer 0 unfortunately!

Its due to memory usage, they can't choose the boundaries without using much more memory. Each space (ie say player A has scored 6 goals, player B scored 186 then it is stored in memory as: Player A 006, Player B 186. So if player C has actually scored 300 goals, it would need something like 0000000300 since all those 0's before use up memory, it simply isn't viable at the moment. It's a similar problem to finances, it goes from -2bn to +2bn going to either extremity causes it to flip, however they can't bump it up a level because the next level would be something like -15,000,000,000,000,000 (15 centillion I think) to +15,000,000,000,000,000

Since the vast majority of teams in the game operate at less than 1 million, and even super rich teams only get into high tens of millions, maybe hundreds of millions thousands of teams would be represented in memory as something like: 00 000 000 000 125 000

It'd be a huge waste of memory and make saves more than quadruple in size lol.

This is correct but don't forget computers only use 1's and 0's. So 255 is 11111111. Incrementing this means adding 00000001, which using binary addition adds up to 100000000, but the first 1 is lost as it's only an 8 bit representation, so it's then 00000000 = 0.

But indeed, the next data size up is 16-bit which is complete overkill, as that can represent up to 2^16 - 1 = 65,535 - and no player will ever get close to that.

Yea I know the totals are in binary it was just giving a quick example in an easy to understand format, if I said player A had 66 goals and put it in as 01000010 it might have confused a few lol. No player would ever get a thousand goals in a season, so it would always be 8 bits of wasted memory, same issue with switching finances to long integer, would leaves for most teams so much memory wastage its unreal.

Fair play  was a good way of showing it in an understandable way :)

Yeah it'd double the memory used, almost all of which would be empty space. I have no idea if this is possible, but a dynamic data type, which could expand into a 16-bit if the 8-bit store is full, would solve it efficiently. Haven't programmed in years though, so no idea on how it'd work :p

I think its in the category of more hassle than its worth, the amount of players that actually get to reset the international goals scored or over 255 goals in a season is less than 0.01% unless my memory is failing this is the first time since Nep had a striker do it on FM06 that its happened. Keirrison perhaps would have been a contender for doing it had he become a Brazil starter before the age of 24/25, before then he was just used late on in games with little time to have an impact but was still something like 35 goals in 40 caps before I became Brazil manager.

It's the same with the money scenario, and now due to investments it has been corrected. They can't do a quick fix like this because a player can't exactly put his goals scored in an investment for the future lol.

Chris Higgins

Well another cracking season from Higgins saw him roar past 250 international goals and also race towards 1500 goals, ending just 2 short

Nothing much else to add for this season, he is still some way of Keirrisons record and i think it may be toucjh and go as to breaking it as i saw the first small signs of decline, his finishing dropped from 20 to 19, not a massive issue in the grand scheme of things and i will be more concerned when i start to see his pace and acceleration start to go,

But for now he has to be looking at maybe hitting the 300 goals mark for England in the coming season and will also pass the 1500 goals mark.

2000 is still the ultimate aim

Gareth Black - International Stats

England : Games, 130 | Goals 307

Epic, I know. 307 goals for England. He was only 28 when I stopped that save game :D - He would have slaughtered the 200 cap mark.

My Bad, but found the info from earlier in the thread :D

So, 33 International Goals to go to crack it, could definately be on this season as have the Euro Championships at the end,

Would be an amazing achievment

Have also just noticed that he is closing in on 500 assists and 500 Man of The Match awards as well, it is certainly turning out to be Some career  I am not sure Legend quite does him justice!!!!

Another countdown, this time from 2990 goals for East Belfast to 2999 goals for Spence.

10 to go: A shot from the central midfielder hits the post and Spence puts it into the empty net Ballymena Utd 0-2 East Belfast

9 to go: A simple penalty award after Stewart gets taken out, and Spence puts it home Ballymena Utd 0-3 East Belfast

8 to go: After playing a one-two with the right winger, Spence smashes it into the back of the net from the edge of the D East Belfast 1-0 Bangor

7 to go: A 25-yard free kick takes a deflection and goes into the bottom corner East Belfast 2-0 Bangor

6 to go: The right winger puts in a deep cross which finds Spence all alone, and he heads it in Loughgall 2-4 East Belfast

5 to go: With the aid of a deflection, Spence finds the corner from about 12 yards out Beitar Jerusalem 0-2 East Belfast

4 to go: The right winger gets held back in the box, and Spence puts the penalty into the top corner Ards 0-1 East Belfast

3 to go: Another penalty, this time straight down the middle East Belfast 2-0 Carrick

2 to go Barely 5 minutes after his first, he takes it past a defender on the edge of the box and beats the keeper again East Belfast 3-0 Carrick

1 to go: His free kick deflects out to the left back, and as Spence continues to run into the box, the left back's cross finds him in space to head home Spartak Moscow 3-3 East Belfast

He has exactly half of the goals he needs to break the record this season, with 21 in total, and with just one more he becomes the second person to reach 3000 club goals.

Fine. I'll keep my exploits to myself from now on.

Then who would be inspired to play Northern Irish games in future? I'm sure there's more Knockbreda fans on this forum than their average attendance :D

Its a shame Keirrison can't go to NI in his 40's and do a Sir Stanley Matthews, playing his final match at around 63 and still having been playing competitively for semi-professional sides a few years prior lol. See, this is why more custom player interactions should be allowed "In another time, in another football universe a striker has scored 3000 goals 10 years from now... You need to keep going to break that. It doesn't matter what level of football it is!" I'm sure he'd understand, and keep playing until he broke it then lol.

I'm back on the save but not got an awful lot of time to invest in it at the moment due to decorating, he's had a pretty decent bit of goalscoring so far. Definitely on track for another over 100 season as it stands, not bad for being 35 in the premiership, of course Leigh Stones is doing all the legwork for him now, Keirrison just puts it in the back of the net like a true poacher lol.

Feels almost wrong to be passing such an incredible record like Smylie's with a set piece tbh. Although, considering I think if Spence went on a Messi-esque run through the defence he'd need an oxygen mask and a stretcher once he'd finished the celebration, this was probably the most likely way of the record being broken.

So, he moved past Smylie's total with a free kick, and onto 3,146 goals (he finished the match with a hat-trick, so that's 3,148 goals in total). Here is how the match finished, and note how his strike partner is taking over the scoring reins:

spencerecord.png

And here is the great man himself, still avoiding the male pattern baldness that seemed to hit Svec

spencerecordprofile.png

Last but not least, here is the goal:

And his career stats:

Appearances (Club): 1378

Goals (Club): 3022

Appearances (Int'l): 138

Goals (Int'l): 126

Appearances (Total): 1516

Goals (Total): 3148

Goals per Game (Career): 2.077

If I'm not mistaken, that's more appearances than Smylie. I'd say his record probably wins because of that.

I have a .PKM of the match, although the game won't play it for me. I could upload it somewhere maybe?

Great achievement, he might not be going bald but he's certainly getting chunky 80kg at about 5'11 lol. Will be interesting to see how much further he goes before he retires.

@ kroblues - awesome stuff there from Spence, a magic career

Chris Higgins

Another solid season from the Spurs Legend, who, courtesy of a downloaded commentary pack is now called Mr Tottenham on a regular basis :D

This season saw him pass 1500 goals, and also 500 Man of the Match awards, He didnt make it to Gareth Blacks international record due to more and more niggly little injuries that always seemed to crop up during international squads, still hes is on the way and i am sure we may see him get there this season with 17 to go,

He is closing in on 500 assists and that i think will take 2 more seasons to reach, he is still way of keirrison and i think that around 2000 is looking more and more like the outside of his abilities,

We are seeing some decline start to kick in and alos he is starting to pick up more and more injuries, he used to only ever be out for 3-4 days, but that is now becoming 2-3 weeks on most occasions.

What happens this coming season i think will give a big indicator as to how long he will be able to stay at this level

Injuries shouldn't get you down too much, I remember thinking it was all over for Keirrison after a 3 month lay-off at around 32 and then the following season he scored one of his best ever totals if not his best ever. I'm a bit surprised his average isn't up above 2 yet, with 112 games to go before he catches up with Keirrison's games played he isn't as close as I expected, but with the 4/5 year head start of having him come through your ranks he will beat Keirrison soundly by the time he's 35 I suspect.

Every injury will be a worry now though incase its a long one and he announces retirement due to it lol.

Great job kroblues

I THINK Smylie had a better Goals to Game ratio. Also, I'm not sure if you're N. Ireland manager or not, but I could have got Smylie another 100+ goals if I was. :D Still, what you've done is nothing short of remarkable. How many club goals is Spence behind Smylie now?

Yeah, I'm NI manager, I don't think Spence would have gotten anywhere near the number of goals for NI otherwise. I don't know how many club goals Smylie got in total tbh, but Spence is up to about 3025 now.

I'll dig up the numbers tomorrow. Still, you'll have to excuse my "hanging on to every smylie record" thing. It's hard times. :D

However, I'm genuinely happy for you. It's something I never thought would be beaten, and after all the "cheat" accusations, it'll be nice to have someone there to back me up that it's possible.

Congratulations all around.
