Does anyone know anything about this year's corner exploit? Is it going to make this challenge a bit easier?

So far, I've avoided reading the exact setup, so please don't mention it. As far as I'm concerned, as long as myself or the AI isn't using it, I don't care about it.

I knew the one on 10.2, after I thought I'd found it so I checked what it was - not exactly the same as what I did but close. Apparently there is one on 10.3, but I haven't checked what it is as my previous routine seems to still do fairly well.

I have looked at the thread for the cheat and tried it in one game, purely for observation and i think that yes, absolutly it will make this challange easier if people use it,

In the test i did, Huddlestone scored 6 in a 7-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield,

I quit the game and replayed it, just didnt seem right to use a exploit,

Maybe it should be a stipulation for this challange that known exploits are not to be used

Chris Higgins Update

Well on 01/01/2012, after just one and a half seasons of first team football, and at the tender age of just 17

Chris Higgins has been voted as European Striker of the Year after 45 goals in 49 games

It's a sad moment, as Josef Svec announced his retirement, and ended up as a player/coach, but strangely he doesn't appear as a player for me anymore. Therefore this season was his last for East Belfast. At the age of 39 a legend ends, after 19 years of service to the club, and playing a part in 20 of the club's record 24 titles in a row including his half season after joining. The adage of "if he's fit he plays" stayed for his final season, as he made 25 league appearances, along with 18 in various cup competitions and 8 more Champions League games under his belt. His 14 goals meant that he signed off with a double figure season, a feat he managed for every one of his full seasons with the club.

Svec as he was on retirement

Svec Profile

Svec Season 1: 8 goals

Svec Season 2:78 goals

Svec Season 3: 158 goals

Paul Spence, on the other hand, is flying through the goals, and he reached the target I gave him recently of 100 league goals with flying colours, as he smashed 115 in the league this season, more than any CLUB in the league managed. With 185 goals in his 61 appearances this season, he was over 3-per-game, so it was disappointing to not play a few more cup games. He also had a fantastic year for Northern Ireland, profiting under my management meaning that he started every game, unlike the previous manager where he was often a substitute. 9 more caps and 12 more goals pushed him ever closer to the record goalscorer title. He is certainly becoming a candidate for 2500 goals, as at the age of 28 he has maybe 4 more years of top class goalscoring followed by possibly 5 of still fantastic but not quite so brilliant levels. He also passed 1500 goals for East Belfast this season.

Spence Season 1: 7 goals

Spence Season 2:18 goals

Spence Season 3: 94 goals

Spence Season 4: 177 goals

Spence Season 5: 285 goals

Spence Season 6: 428 goals

Spence Season 7: 604 goals

Spence Season 8 : 774 goals

Spence Season 9 : 955 goals

Spence Season 10 : 1163 goals

Spence Season 11 : 1361 goals

Spence Season 12 : 1546 goals

Paul Spence summary so far (Age 28)

Appearances: 783

Goals: 1546

Int'l Caps: 71

Int'l Goals: 47

Total Goals: 1593

After 1000 goals

Robbie O'Reilly, who had 361 assists in his career before last season, is also progressing well, as another 81 assists (a new record) pushed him onto 442 career assists at the age of 26. Possibly a candidate for 1000 assists if he stays for his entire career?

I hope the coding works, if not let me know.

Chris Higgins

Well Season 2 done and dusted and the plan was to integrate Higgins into the team and get maybe 30 games from him, Unfortunately he had other ideas,

Everytime i played him he sparkled and at times he played like Torres on Steroids :D

He is progressing well and frankly i am scared as to how good he could get,

He won the European Striker of the year for 2011 after one and a half seasons of professional football and also won the 2011/12 English Footballer of the Year and was also the 2011/12 Premier Leagues Top Scorer, and all this at just 17,

He also won goal of the season with this little effort against Chelsea

Total 73(12) 72 25 23 0.85

He does seem to be upping his strike rate, and 100 goals should be passed next season at 18, Having never done this challenge before i am not sure what rate is required to be on course,

For those who have done this before, does he seem to be heading the right way?

Link to post

Sounds promising then,

Although i am not sure i will ever get a player to score into the hundreds in a single season as others have done, especially in the Premier League.

I think 60ish maybe the highest, but we shall see, maybe in his later years as the standard dropsand he reaches his peak he may be able to reach those dizzy heights

Link to post

It's certainly possible that he'll get near 100 a season in the Premier League. Brennan's performances just rocketed once he got near his peak, i would never have believed you if you'd have told me just after our 1st season in the Premier League that he'd go on to score 100+ goals in a season.

Oh, and i've just realised that i really need to post up Marc(Beckford, my son)'s goalscoring record. Currently around the 250-300 mark, but will shoot up after this season. Already bettered his tally for goals in a season this year with 37, and we're only at the start of February! He's going to get more than Brennan if i carry on with the save, no question. He's a better player than Brennan and his international record is simply ballistic.

You may well be right,

Higgins has just kicked of the new season with 3 hat tricks in the first 5 games

And talk about just like buses,

Just got a youth product through who has been labelled the next Gary Lineker!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, dont think he is going to get a look in with Higgins being so young

So there's my son's stats. So it might not look massively impressive, but the key thing is that he's been playing in the AMC position every season, with his main job being to feed Brennan.

Once Brennan gets to 1000 goals, the two will swap positions, enabling Marc to be the one that scores bucketloads of goals. He's a better player than Brennan, no question (I'd imagine Brennan's PA/CA is around 170 ish, Marc's is probably 185+) so he should get to the magical mark fairly quickly.

At this rate, he'll get 804 goals if he has a 20 year career in the AMC position, so i'm expecting huge things from him once he moves into the ST position!

Now Svec is gone, it's left to Spence to continue the formidable goalscoring, although there is another candidate possibly coming through (more on him once I see if he's likely to stay his entire career). Spence's goals-per-game ratio declined this season, as despite playing 2 games more he scored 7 goals less than last season. Still a fantastic return of 178 goals from 63 appearances, but I know he can do better and if he wants to reach 3000 it will need to be better. Not that 3000 is too likely anyway, but I can dream :D He is now officially Northern Ireland's top goalscorer, beating the previous record of 50 this year. He now has 56 goals from 77 caps.

Spence Season 1: 7 goals

Chris Higgins

Well another season done and Higgins is progressing rapidly, his mental stats have strated to climb and he is improving in all the right areas,

He would have had a load more goals this season but he picked up a load of niggly 1 -2 week injuries so missed 15-20 games, another similar season will have him at 200 goals by the time he hits 20 so i think he is well on course for this challenge

Another season goes by, another 100 goals added to his club tally. Just 81 goals left overall now, challenge completion is virtually a given. The 140 club goals should come in the next 2 seasons, but it could be 3. He was really inconsistant this season, and i really thought that he wouldn't get the 100 goals for the final time. But mid-season, he went on a superb run of 7 hat-tricks or better in 7 games, starting with my 1000th game in charge of FCUM, which kickstarted his season. This was almost certainly his last 100 goal season, as his age is starting to show. He'll be 32 in December, and he's relying on perfect chances to score more than ever.

What a season it was from Marc! He started off where Brennan had left off at the end of last season, and despite a dip in form when the maestro started scoring, he managed to get 50 goals in a season for the first time ever! :D

107 England goals now too, i really believe that he can hit 200+ international goals, he's probably the most complete player in the game!

Imagine the damage he's doing to do when he switches positions with Brennan in 2 or 3 years time!

Ok, the records posts have been updated. Well done to Svec, for retiring on a sensational amount of goals.! Spence isn't too far off being the 2nd highest all time scorer in the game now, either. Good luck to Bernard Brennan, who is now just 81 goals shy of the 1,000 mark.

Chris Higgins

This kid is turning out to proabably be the best player i have ever had on any version of CM/FM and as i have played the series since the beginning that is saying something!!!!!

He seems to be constantly improving and all the attributes you would want to improve are improving, He has just turned 20 and already has nearly 250 career goals.

And bearing in mind he has played his entire career in the Premiership that is pretty phenomenal, it is actually very scary to think how good he will become as he is still so far of his peak years,

His first 100 goal season will not be far away and i think with a bit of luck may come in the next one

He is pretty immense :D

That is the most i have ever had a forward score in a season, i think before that the most was about 62.

But he just finds it so easy and often walks past 2 or 3 of the opposition before finishing, and looks good for a 100 goal season soon.

and although he is doing very well, i am not sure 2000 is possible

But we could certainly give it a go

Not as fantastic a season for Spence, although that certainly wasn't helped by playing 5 games in 7 days in the middle of April. He also missed a month through injury, which again didn't help his goal total. As it was, he scored 179 goals in his 63 appearances this season, which, if I'm not mistaken, pushes him up to 2nd in the all-time goalscorers list, for now at least. At the age of 30, he certainly has a good chance at moving up to 2,500 goals, although 3,000 is almost certainly out of the question. He very nearly managed to get us into the Champions League final, almost singlehandedly. He scored a hat-trick and then 2 goals in our 4-3 away loss and then 2-1 home win over Valencia, and then got goals in the 88th and 89th minute in the Semi Final first leg to pull it back to 3-2 on the night against PSV, although we could only draw 1-1 at home. So close :(

With another fantastic year at International level, where he scored 19 goals in his 12 appearances, he is also closing in on 100 goals for Northern Ireland.

As I did with Svec when he was near 1000, here is a quick rundown of Spence's goals as he closed in on the magical 2000 goals for East Belfast.

Goal #1991: From a corner, Spence powers into the net for his hat-trick. East Belfast 3-0 Glenavon

Goal #1992: After a long range free kick wasn't held by the goalkeeper, Spence tapped in his first of the game. East Belfast 2-0 Drogheda

Goal #1993: A shot from Stewart leads to a goalmouth scramble where Spence pokes in his 90th of what has been a slow season by his standards. Liverpool 1-1 East Belfast

Goal #1994: From just outside the box, Spence shows he's still got it by curling one in past the Rovers keeper Shamrock Rovers 0-2 East Belfast

Goal #1995: Spence is fouled inside the box, and calmly puts the spot kick away Shamrock Rovers 0-5 East Belfast

Goal #1996: A hopeful punt forwards by the left back leaves Spence all alone, and he scores easily. East Belfast 1-0 Linfield

Goal #1997: The ball bouncing around the box after a shot from the centre midfielder, and Stewart puts it on a plate for Spence barely a yard out East Belfast 3-1 Linfield

Goal #1998: Barely 5 minutes later, he completes his hat-trick by going round the centre back and powering home East Belfast 4-1 Linfield

Goal #1999: With the aid of a deflection, Spence moves himself within one goal of a record only achieved by one other... East Belfast 2-0 Distillery

And strangely, there wasn't a "That's his 2000th goal for East Belfast" message when he scored his next goal, yet I've just checked the maths and his 97th this season would have been his 2000th, and he got that with a penalty before the end of the Distillery match. If someone wants to check then they can, all the screenshots up to last season are there.

I'm gonna change my tactics to basically make sure only strikers get most of the chances. He'll put them away most of the time, but the main reason he hasn't been scoring as much this year, imo, is that the goals have been spread around.

Thanks PVentress and hamilton :D

At the moment, it seems as if Brennan isn't going to get the 81 goals this season. 'Only' 13 goals in 12 games so far, needs to up this rate considerably to stand any chance of making the 1000 FCUM goals within the next 2 seasons as well :(

Having said that, he'll probably go on the rampage and smash in 7 hat-tricks in 7 games like he did last season now! :D

Chris Higgins

Well Higgins is still progressing well and his attributes are rising steadily, His Mental Attributes have started to kick in and this can only help him to improve.

As for how the season went, well, Disappointing is the only word i can use, he still scored a high number of goals but dropped compared to last season when i was expecting him to continue to increase his goal output.

The reason for this drop i fear lies largely with his inept manager !!!!!! Knowing that he will need a strong team around him to challenge for 1000+ goals in the premiership i set about buying and blooding some promising youngsters and they lacked the experience or quality (yet) to support Higgins enough,

Needless to say reverting back to trusted experience saw his output rapidly rise again,

Not a mistake i will be making again,

Still he reached the 300 goal mark at 20 so we are still on course :D

Josef Svec

RETIRED

It seemed to be a slower season for Spence, but he certainly picked up towards the end of it. He flew past 2000 goals for East Belfast and was well on his way towards 2100 in total before the end of the season. 162 goals in 64 appearances isn't anything like I know he should be capable of, but he is into his 30s now, so a drop was to be expected. Maybe 2500 is all he can hope for. 3000 is almost certainly out of the question. A small issue is that he is unwilling to sign a contract, which runs out in 3 years, so that's something I'd like to sort out ASAP. A side note, contracts have caused me to lose roughly 2 first teamers per season as they refused to sign new ones. Ah well, just means the youth get more chance I suppose.

He is also closing in on his 100th cap for Northern Ireland, finishing the season on 99, and with a European Championship game against Serbia to come in the near future, he should hit the milestone quickly. At 87 goals, 100 international goals in total has to be a possibility.

Unfortunately these are his final totals as he wouldn't sign a new contract, so he got sold for £12.5M to Tottenham.

East Belfast Goals: 241

A quarter of the way there and only just turned 20, I'd like to think he can get near 1,500 too.

3000 is definately out of the question IMO, but he should get at least 2500

The success that's been had in Northern Ireland is just crazy really, even though it's like having leading Premier League players against BSP/L2 defenders each game.
