Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club is a professional football club representing the city of Wolverhampton, in the West Midlands region of England, and currently playing in the Premier League. Commonly referred to by their nickname Wolves, the club was founded in 1877 and since 1889 have played at Molineux Stadium. Historically, Wolves have been highly influential, most notably as founder members of the Football League, as well as having played an instrumental role in the establishment of the European Cup, later known as the UEFA Champions League.

Having won the FA Cup twice before the outbreak of the First World War, Wolves consolidated their reputation as a top side under the legendary management of ex-player Stan Cullis after the Second World War, going on to win the League three times and the FA Cup twice between 1949 and 1960. It was at this time that the European Cup competition was established, after the English press declared Wolves "Champions of the World" following their victories against such top European and World sides as South Africa, Racing, Spartak Moscow, and Honvéd in some of football's first live televised games.

Wolves have yet to match the successes of the Stan Cullis era, although they did contest the first UEFA Cup final in 1972 against Tottenham Hotspur, and won the League Cup in 1974 under Bill McGarry and again in 1980 under John Barnwell. However, a decline set in and they found themselves in the Fourth Division by 1986, before a revival and back-to-back promotions under manager Graham Turner and legendary striker Steve Bull saw them finish the decade in the Second Division, winning the Football League Trophy along the way. Their 19-year exile from the top flight ended when manager Dave Jones guided the club to promotion to the Premier League for a solitary 2003-4 season, whose departure following relegation lead to a brief spell under Glenn Hoddle. However a new approach under former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy saw a three year plan which duly delivered promotion to the Premier League in 2009, this time as Football League Championship Champions

Important Information:

Transfer Budget: £5.75 Million (Avoid Relegation)

Wage Budget: 280k

Possible Targets:

FREE:

Ebi Smolarek A fantastic striker, the former Bolton man, boasts stats such as Finishing 15, First Touch 16, Composure 17 , Creativity 15, Technique 15 a Pace 15, looks a solid buy. Although a striker is not the first priority, it would be nice to have a solid Back-Up.

Sol Campbell Well known England international, partner him with a quick defender and you should have a solid back line, wages may be an issue though, get him playing for you and you may have a chance of staying up.

Johann Vogel An experienced Swiss international, he has very good defensive capabilities and may stop incoming attacks at defensive midfield if you are to need one.

Jorge Andrade Used to be a first team starter for teams like Juventus, but unfortunately has been hampered by injuries, he'd be a top guy, not lacking hardly anywhere.

Not Free:

Emerson Boyce Good defender with experience at this level, should be able to pick him up at around £3 Million

Hakan Yakin Tricky little winger that has pace and a great delivery, he also bolsters a fantastic set piece.

Lee Naylor Bring the old Molineux man back? You could and he is a great left back, should only cost £1 million.

Possible Departures:

With the squad building nicely now you want to get rid of old championship deadwood, Matt Hill should be the first on your list, he is a solid championship player but does not cut the mustard in the top flight. Although David Jones has a quality left foot, he is again un-needed in the top flight and should be loaned or sold to gather wage money.

i find wolves are lacking quality right across the park with forwards being our strongest position, after selling alot of players that arent really cut out for the premiership (u dont want to know how many) i try to bring in players who can make an instant impact.

Hermanes- great box to box midfielder

Radoi- quality in the backline, also fill in at DM

Otamendi- another good back with great potential

Skjelbred- good attacking AM/CM

After trying a few cracks at the demo and seeing what targets i could get with a bit of wheeling and dealing

Ochoa, Ronaldo (fat), even managed Adriano

Transfers:

Maxym Kalinichenco-£3.3

Out

Darren Ward-£700k

Benjani Top player played 11 scored 5 wish he could have done more tho

Javier Garrido Is a must buy he is a brilliant left back

Maxym Kalinichenco hasnt played much but still played 5 with nothing (N)

also just got Mikael Silvestre (£825k) played in him FA Cup 3rd round against Pompey he is a great solid defender.

Have to say overall Best player has to be Wayne Hennessey GK he is absoultley amazing :D

Gonna go into quite a bit of detail here, sorry if i bore you LOL

Started off with selling Foley for £3.4m. Good player, stats have shot up, rightly so from FM09, but i knew i could get an able replacement for a fraction of that money.

that replacement was Cosmin Contra, yes unfortunatly he had a stint with west brom. but i overlooked this, the fans didnt mind. and come the end of the demo with 6 assists and an average rating of 7.08 i was impressed.

i then sold David Jones and Darren Ward for £2.1m combined. more money to work with. Ikeme also went out on loan to Sevilla. after turning down a host of top spanish teams - valencia included.

i signed Javier Garrido and Hakan Yakin, Dario Veron, Jorge Andrade and Per Cilijan Skjelbred. Total for these were £9.25m and i recouped £5.75m from outgoing players.

i had a mixed pre-season which i wont go in too really.

Garrido got injured so big George Elokobi came in and stayed, Same for Matt Murray - Amazing keeper still. Finally, Keogh can cut it!!!

Cant wait to get the full game on Friday!

Nice thread Jack, was gonna make a thread myself but have not had the time. I'll be posting on this thread for a while once I get the game.

The demo was very very successful for me: I tried to keep the current ethos going of signing British players and lookig abroad for a bit of extra quality.

The squad is decent enough for survival without any additions in my opinion but you really should look to strengthen to avoid being stuck in a relegation battle:

I signed:

Kevin Thomson 1.5m-Rangers

Javier Garrido-Season long loan-Man City

Andrew Driver- 2.5m- Hearts

The left side is a definite weakness. Jarvo looks very poor and although not the greatest winger deserves some better stats than what he has. I signed Driver but hardly ever played him due to the form of my midield 4 which I'll get to in a bit. Left back was a must but I'd sign someone better than Garrido when the full game comes out despite him performing reasonably well.

Resy of the defence is decent enough although i could understand people looking for an extra centre half. The reak strength is up top. Doyle was magnificent for me with 13. Keogh got 9 and SEB and the Hoff added another 10 between them. SEB just could not force his way in to the team due to Keogh's form.

Kightly was terrific, lots of assists.

My first choice XI for the majority was:

Hennessey

Foley

Zubar

Berra

Garrido

Kightly

Castillo

Thomson

Milijas

Doyle

Keogh

I'll give a more thorough round up when I get the full game which probably won't be until Monday due to Zavvi only dispatching it this morning.

Going good guys.

Im popping out to get FM 10 about 11 ish.

Font Changed :D

Benjy

Yeah, Jarvo can take on his man and has bag loads of pace, just lacking that cutting edge - A decent cross. When I play my first priority is to get a Left Winger and a Left Back. Elokobi and Hill are nothing special, Stephen Ward as much as I love him in real life he doesnt cut the mustard on FM. I also will get a new Center Back with Premier League experience, or experience at another top level. Jorge Andrade springs to mind. How did Thomson do? It's a cross between him and Skjelbred. Driver I think is perfect for the Left Wing.

Some more people need to do the Wolves challenge. Cmon Wolves!

Link to post

Much better :D

Anyway, I'm about to start a Wolves game, as I think they look like a fun team to play with

Good

Definatly get a Left Back though. Milijas can play at Left Midfielder as he has a terrific cross.

You probably want to strengthen the defence up a little bit, Craddock is great in real life, just not up to it on FM.

Sleeping gaint - word should be comatosed gaint; if you can call them gaints either

nice little thread - shame about the font

personally as wolves you should aim mid-table or above; so maybe adding a section for higher ambitions - some better players than the ones suggested that will go to wolves to help them get top 10

Link to post

Well Zavvi have yet to deliver my game so sat times for me.

Jack-I didn't really play Driver. Milijas was superb set as the wide midfielder. Thomson was excellent for the 1.5 I paid for him but I'd expect that you could find better.

Couldnt get Thomson. Rangers wanted a massive 6 Million for him, I negotiated down to 4 Million but I feel that is way too much. I got Skjelbred instead for 1.4 Million.

So far so good, I've made some good signings. Ill post them in a month or so (Game Time)

Im playing on the real game btw.

EDIT: SIGNED VICENTE!

Just starting my second season with Wolves. Has a bit of a clear out and brought in a few new faces.

First season I brought in

Antunes

Dejan Stefanovic

Celestini

Andreas Johansson

Miles Addison

Stephen Quinn

Mikael Antonssen

Edgar Ivan Pachecho

Got rid of 12 playes for a total of 15 mil, including Keogh and all the wingers as I am playing a 4-1-4-2 formation.

Finished that season 9th and got 23mil to spend for a midtable finish. So far this season I brought in

Craig Gardner

Joe Hart

Nelson Cabrera

Matias Defederico

Laszlo Sepsci

I still have about 10 mil to spend and am looking for a backup CB as while I think Stearmen is a decent player he isnt really CB material. I have offers on the table for Lee Wilkie as a backup and Liam Rosenior on a free for the same reason as it looks like I am going to lose Berra to Marseille, Everton are chasing Addison. Newcastle allready took Zubar off me which was great as he was mediocre at best and now seem to want Doyle which I am less happy about. But if Defederico can continue his form from his first 2 friendlys into the season then I doubt I will miss Doyle. But if I get a decent fee for him I might bring in another big name striker and maybe another CM.

As it stands with 3 weeks to go to EPL kick off my first 11 looks like this

GK Harte

RB Stearman/Halford

LB Sepsci

CB Cabrera

CB Berra/Antonsson

DM Addison

CM Gardner

CM Milijas

CM Henry

ST Defederico

ST Doyle

Yeah I know I went, we looked poor first half and good second half. Zele Ismail isnt all that great, He isnt actually our best youth player. Scott Malone will be a future England Left back by the way he is going.

I'm going to start again with a different ethic. YOUTH

Just finished my first season with the old gold.

Finished 13th after struggling initially. Determined to work on tactics all by myself this year and not read anything about them. (Which is easier with the new presets).

Key Ins were:

Sandro (DM, MC) £10m. Started 37 league games and played very well in the central box to box role. Him and Henry were very solid in the middle of a 4-4-2 with Castillo as backup.

Nicolas Otamendi (DC) £4m. Played 35 league games and was superb at the back. Will look for a partner who can dominate in the air next season.

Erik Edman (DL) £3.5m. Probably overpaid but I wanted a left back with experience and decent all round stats.

Doyle was my top striker with 16 goals in the league. Played 4-4-2 with a winger on the right (Kightly) and a wide midfielder on the left (Milijas).

Hennessey was solid at the back. Looking for solid midfielders to add to the mix and also the likes of Krancjar to play left mid/central. Also another decent striker.

Sold quite a few players over the course of the season to raise £12m (Keogh, Jarvis, Ward x2, Hill, Little, Iwelumo, Surman, Friend).

always the case for us=[ always one bad half and its costing us points that we have deserved to get like everton, hull, villa and stoke we could have easily gone our way. iv only seen a few vids on him in a youth cup looked great. yeah malone is class what a left foot he has. youth is the way forward shame there all pretty crap mendez looks alright though worth a mill. i downloaded that db up to level 10 =] gonna get stourbridge as my feeder and see if anyone will go there to get them up ;] main focus is on getting a mid table finish though and hopefully doyle can bang them in.

anyone had any luck with the hoff, he looks pretty good on here

Scored 8 in 28 for me. Not a bad return and a decent target man to bring Doyle into the game. Certainly not crap if used effectively.

For me he was, I used Ebanks-Blake and Doyler up top for the First season, Second Season Gignac was very useful. I also reccomend Kris Boyd. 3M he is a steal.

Ebanks-Blake has been under rated again, poor finishing and composure.

The Hof is great in the targetman role, winning plenty of flick ons, holding up the ball and playing through balls for Doyle to finish.

big chris wont go anywhere nobody wants him =[ organised a little molineux cup with city lpool and chelsea =] test out the team early on

edit; anyone managed to keep mancienne or he not worth it

Mancienne is a good player, Him and Berra do a job first season, although I do reccomend a player called Shilla, he is a Ghanaian CB.

Currently in pre season and have made 4 key purchases whilst shipping out most of those that I don't need.

Ins:

Zoran Tosic AM RL £3.9m (was transfer listed) Man Utd - Looks class and can play either wing. When I saw him transfer listed I had to get him.

Miranda DC £15m Sao Paulo - Quality centre back and strong in the air which is what I was lacking. Fee spread over 24 months.

Louis Saha ST Free - Still decent and strong in the air so can play the target man as well.

Hernanes DM, AM RLC - £20m - Big fee but spread over 48 months. Can play with either foot and in a number of positions. Will try him in the deep lying playmaker role as well as box to box.

Outs:

Sam Vokes £13.75m Liverpool - looked like he was improving but this was a big offer.

Christophe Berra - £2.6m Burnley

Neil Collins - £1.4m Bristol City - amazed I got this much for him.

Carl Ikeme - £1.2m Fulham

Greg Halford - £475k loan fee Crystal Palace

Looking to push on this season and sneak a European spot.

Wow, great result. I managed to beat Liverpool at home 2-1, Man Utd at home 3-1 and drew with Arsenal at home 3-3.. 6-0 that is excellent and yes I agree, this version is so far fantastic. So many neat little changes (even things like arranging friendlies is easier).

To add to my transfers I just spent £7m bringing in Mancienne on a permanent deal. Need class English players and he looks like he could become top quality.

I'll be sligtly editing the database before I load up my game. We have an exceptional array of youth players at the moment and none of them look like being anything more than L1 players from what I saw on the demo.

Mendez Laing and Malone are looking top notch and Danny Batth is getting rave reviews from Colchester right now.

13.75m for Vokesy? Wow.

I really want to try and continue Mick's current ethos while adding the odd foreign starlet in here and there.

How good did he get? He starts off as a good CCC striker in my opinion. My game better come tomorrow, have a massive FM urge.

I'd only played 1 season but he has good composure and his finishing was improving. Was worth £3.9m.

i just wished murray had not have had all these injuries after the playoff final win i thought he was destined to get into england team and be a great keeper. unlucky for him its a shame hes such a great keeper.

and the tactic im playing is hennesey gk, naylor zubar otamendi halford/manciene, henry and milijas cm, kites and jarvis aml and amr and hof and doyler upfront. i always play my teams like this i love attacking football and i love goals. played it for about the last 3 fms now, still not mastered the defensive side of it but its bought me so much success just by scoring. i have always wanted to make a dmc work but ive never had success with that so i just stick to how i play. tried to sign krivets to back up kites and jarvo but ran out of money after otamendi and signed lallana for a mil aswell see how he fairs. i just love it =] just gave mendez a game in the cup, hes not to bad you know hope he gets a bit better.

sorry about the crap english i have two broken shift keys and a broken caps lock so cant do capitals or smilies =] ha mon me babbies

You sold Foley & Kightly? Are you a Wolves fan?

They were both absolute class for me on the demo.

Not a Wolves fan, played with them on the demo thinking they would be a fun team and decided to give them a go on the full game. Foley was decent for me but no better than Halford so I let him go. Knightly didnt really fit in with my tactics so I took up Wigan on their 4mil bid for him.

Doyle just had a hissy fit and demanded a move to Newcastle, but looks like it worked out well for me as I managed to get Kleber from Cruzeiro instead who looks like he could be an adequate replacement.
