DavidBeckham
Quote Dear all I'm finally back after a long hiatus! No matter how busy you are with life, you simply can't ignore new versions of FM, especially one like FM19 with so many new exciting features. I will be playing as 'Paul Scholes', someone who has become very vocal since his retirement from football. You can follow me on twitter @footyasian for mini updates and some football banter Hopefully you guys will enjoy this thread as much as I do! Game Status Current Version: 19.0.1b1149329 (m.e v1900) Database Size: Large Selected Nations (Leagues) Denmark (Superliga Only) England (Sky Bet Championship And Above) France (Ligue 1 Conforama Only) Germany (Bundesliga Only) Italy (Serie A Only) Norway (Premier Division Only) Spain (First Division Only) Sweden (Premier Division Only) Like my old saves on the previous versions, I have booted up the major European Leagues as I follow them closely in real life and can better relate to them. The Scandinavian Leagues are also loaded up as they are full of cheap hidden gems Manager's Profile Would you like to coach players, to help get the best out of them? Paul: I enjoy it when I'm doing it with kids or when I did it with the [Man United] team. It's not something I'd go searching for, but if someone asked me or invited me to go and do something, I would. Would you consider management? Paul: Why not? A manager is a coach these days. Sir Alex [Ferguson] was a manager rather than a coach. Nowadays they're coaches. I know I'd enjoy it.... Extracted from Andy Mitten's interview with Paul Scholes on ESPN Sir Alex Ferguson: "I think Paul Scholes is the best player in England. He’s got the best skills, the best brain. No one can match him. There isn’t a player of his mould anywhere in the world. Paul is irreplaceable." Pep Guardiola: "Out of everyone at Manchester United, I would pick out Scholes, he is the best midfielder of his generation. I would have loved to play alongside him." Lionel Messi: "At La Masia his name was mentioned a lot. He’s a teacher." When the greatest thinks that you are a teacher, you've to listen. Paul is starting unemployed and we will see where FM19 takes him. Let the job hunting begin! Edited January 29, 2019 by DavidBeckham

DavidBeckham
And it didn't take too long! Didn't plan for this as I totally forgot that the job is available from the start after Dean Smith left for Villa. Seems like a decent place to start Scholesy's career. DavidBeckham
The bad luck with injuries continues as 3-4 potential starters are out with long term injuries right at the start of Scholesy's reign. ..and 66 injuries per season? DavidBeckham
Three main reasons for Scholesy's sacking I've had some time to reflect and here are the three main reasons for Scholesy's failure at Brentford. 1. Decision to disable first transfer window - The squad lacked balance and I wasn't able to strengthen in areas which would allow me to play the system I want. As a result, we looked very fragile at the back and one-dimensional in attack. 2. Tactical inflexibility - I insisted on playing with my preferred 4-1-4-1 when I had no left-backs and left-wingers. We ended up playing a youngster at left-back and an inside forward down our left wing. If I went for a narrow formation and focused play thru the middle, I could've gotten better results. 3. Injuries - Brentford had only one decent left back/left winger (Rico Henry) and he was out injured till January Thankfully, the opportunity to correct our mistakes came right after the season ended. Scholesy applied and got the Boro job after they sacked Steven McClaren for finishing 19th last season. Transfers We went on a major squad overhaul and brought in 13 new players with 5.25 million pounds' surplus. Key signings Jack Harrison With terrific ability on the ball and pace to burn, Scholesy finally has his own 'Giggsy' after playing with no width down the left flank for much of his tenure at Brentford. Jack O'Connell We cannot afford to go another season without a proper left-back and Jack will slot straight into our starting 11 after we overpaid for his services with 6 million pounds. Julian Jeanvier Julian was with Scholesy at Brentford but he took some time to learn English and settle into life in England. Now that he has settled, I've high hopes that he can be a powerful presence in our central defense in the upcoming campaign. Let's hope that Scholesy can avoid the sack this time round! DavidBeckham
August 2019/2020 - Middlesbrough F.C. League I wasn't too pleased with the early Carabao Cup exit to Leeds United and we were terrible at penalties. On the bright side, we are still unbeaten in the league and Gestede has looked threatening for us playing as a Target Man. Table We are 4th and I'm just glad that Scholesy is nowhere near another sacking! Top Player Despite not being the best finisher and crosser of the ball, Harry has bagged two goals and two assists in six league appearances and he has been a pleasant surprise down our right flank. Long may it continue! Edited November 14, 2018 by DavidBeckham
DavidBeckham
September & October 2019/2020 - Middlesbrough F.C. League We managed 5 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats in the last two months and it has been tough. We have not won by more than a goal and the lowest point was definitely the 0-3 home defeat to Millwall where we were horrendous defensively. Table We are still 4th and I'm just relieved that we are still in contention for the promotion and play-off places after the Millwall horror show. We are certainly not the best two teams in the league thus far and things would need to improve if we are to keep up with the leaders. Top Player The lads managed 6 clean sheets in 9 and Jack has been the most consistent player in our defense for the past two months. The new signing from Sheff Utd is slowly repaying the 6 million pounds paid at left-back with 85% passing accuracy and 100% tackles completed. DavidBeckham
November - March 2019/2020 - Middlesbrough F.C. League It has been a tough couple of months without Jack Harrison but our form picked up in March when he returned from a long term injury. I was pleased to see us hang on to the second automatic promotion spot at the end of March. With a distinct lack of pace in our defense in the wide areas, we set up our team to nullify oppositions' threats, hoping to sneak a goal via set-pieces or counter-attacks. This approach has served us well and we are getting proficient at getting 1-0 wins. FA Cup We did well to overcome Premier League opposition Huddersfield in the 3rd round before struggling past Millwall in the 4th round. Everton was too good for our lads as we succumbed to a 0-1 defeat eventually. Top Player Jonny Howson is the heartbeat of the team and has led by example after he was handed the captain armband early in the season. He has managed 8 goals and 1 assist despite playing deep in midfield away from the penalty area. 7 cup finals, let's go!

DavidBeckham
Season Review 2019/2020 - Middlesbrough F.C. League We were tipped by the media to finish in the mid-table positions so it's incredibly pleasing that we've achieved automatic promotion! \o/ Carabao Cup We were absolutely terrible at penalties here as we went out early to Leeds United in the 1st round. FA Cup We did well to beat one Premier League side but went out eventually to another as they had too much quality Top 11 The heroes who brought us back to where we belong.. :**) Top 3 Players The 6 million pounds proved to be money well-spent as Jack had a very consistent season at left-back. He didn't venture forward too much but was solid throughout when faced with wingers who were much quicker than him. He is the heartbeat of the team and while dictating play from deep, he found time to bag himself 8 goals and 2 assists. It's a pity that we may well see him go as he's 32 soon and isn't quite good enough for the Premier League Julian followed Scholesy to Middlesbrough for 2.5 million pounds after he got sacked from Brentford. It proved to be the correct decision as we are now back in the Premier League while Brentford is still lingering mid-table in the Championship. I hope that the Brentford Chairman is regretting the sacking a little now Edited December 7, 2018 by DavidBeckham
DavidBeckham
Looks like we will be in the relegation zone straight from the start.. ..and even the media has predicted a 20th place finish Edited January 29, 2019 by DavidBeckham
DavidBeckham
Summer Transfers 2020/2021 We brought in a whole lot of players as the squad which helped us to our promotion is very much a Championship squad. Notable departures include arguably our player of the season last campaign, Jonny Howson, ageing target man Rudy Gestede and young winger Harry Chapman. Key Signings Christian Atsu We needed to inject some much needed pace into our squad to trouble Premier League defenses and Christian offers exactly that. The 6.5 million pounds signing will go straight into our starting 11 at left wing. Jordy Clasie Jordy was brought in as Jonny Howson's replacement for 7 million pounds and he is younger, has Premier League experience and is exceptionally determined and hardworking. He will be the heartbeat of the team right in the center of our formation. Manuel Pherai Manuel is the signing who excites me the most. He has incredible ability and agility for someone his age and with a 15 million pounds optional future fee set, I'm hoping to sign him on a long term deal if he impresses on loan this campaign. Looking at the player wage expenditures of all the Premier League clubs, we are right at the bottom of the pile. I'm foreseeing a long struggle ahead.. DavidBeckham
August - December 2020/2021 - Middlesbrough F.C. League I don't think I've competed in the Premier League with a weaker squad than this for a long time and we are clearly the worst team in the league in terms of quality. The only way to accumulate points is to park the bus and keep the ball while trying to nick goals late in the game. We are currently outside the relegation zone and I will be elated if we are still in this position after 38 games. Carabao Cup We were incredibly unlucky with the cup draw and Arsenal's quality proved too much for us to handle as we were eliminated in the 3rd round. Top Player Our position in the league was helped greatly by our ability to keep clean sheets and Paul Dummett has been the most consistent player in our defense. He even found time to create a crucial match-winning goal away at West Brom. It's certainly 6 million pounds well spent!
DavidBeckham
January - March 2020/2021 - Middlesbrough F.C. League So far so good as we stay above the relegation zone with two months of the season left. FA Cup Burnley has been in the Premier League long before us and their squad clearly has too much quality as we suffered a 3rd round cup exit. Top Player He's one of our own! He's one of our owwwwwn! Oh Dael Fry! He's one of our own! Dael has been immense in our defense since coming into the starting 11 and is by far our best player in the first three months of 2021. DavidBeckham
Season Review 2020/2021 - Middlesbrough F.C. League We stay up! We created the problems ourselves last campaign when we got promoted with a squad which was tipped for a mid-table finish in the Championship. We were by far the worst team in the Premier League in terms of quality and I am just relieved that we managed to survive in the end after a season of incredible struggle. Carabao Cup The 3rd round cup exit was inevitable as we were unable to match Arsenal's firepower. FA Cup Even Burnley had too much for us as we suffered an early 3rd round cup exit. Top 11 The players who matched their Premier League counterparts with heart and blood! Top 3 Players Paul was our most consistent player and did incredibly well to start all 38 games and performed admirably at left-back. Darren pulled off saves he wasn't expected to make at times and it was no coincidence that our worst run of form coincided with his injury. Unfortunately, he's 34 this year and the club is unlikely to extend his contract. A fantastic and fitting farewell season! The academy graduate hardly put a foot wrong since coming into the first 11 and he has been our calming influence at the back. Dael is arguably our player of the season and it's extremely pleasing that he's one of our own! \o/ Edited January 8, 2019 by DavidBeckham

DavidBeckham
This could potentially be the signing of Scholesy's tenure thus far.. ..still can't quite believe how we managed to get a player of his quality in on loan! DavidBeckham
Summer Transfers 2021/2022 Having survived narrowly last campaign, we knew we had a lot of strengthening to do if we want to avoid a repeat. 55 million pounds were splashed on six players this summer. Key Signings Wesley Hoedt We definitely overpaid for Wesley but we needed a left-sided center-back desperately and he was the only decent center-back on the market below 30. He's an upgrade on all of our center-backs last campaign and I'm hopeful that he can help us cope with the Premier League attackers better this time round. Alphonso Davies We still can't quite believe how we managed to get a player of Alphonso's quality in on loan and he can definitely be our game changer this season. Angel Gomes Scholesy made use of his Man United connections to bring in one of their best prospects in Angel Gomes and the loan signing will go straight into our starting 11 down our right flank. With him and Alphonso on opposite flanks, we will go into this campaign with added threat and pace. Let's hope we can stay clear of the relegation zone this time round! I feel like we are playing catch-up every year after we miraculously got ourselves promoted with a mid-table Championship squad I had to splash the cash to get Hoedt in as Ogbonna is declining and no longer young/good enough at this level! As a result, Huddersfield equalized late in the game and went on to win on penalties Top Player We may have overpaid for Wesley but what a season he has had so far.
