bestbrother
Foreword: I will be managing both teams independently, no favors, no colluding, just hatred and spitting on myself during Clásico del fútbol Uruguayo Why? Well this is my last (planned) hurrah on FM16, ive not managed a 'Grande' in South America as such this time round, so being unable to choose one or the other and the fact that longevity under one of the teams would struggle (should I dominate), then being both is the best option. The Challenge? Letra de La Copa Libertadores es mi obsesión. Finally, as always in South America, I manage within the constraints. Some may have followed me on other threads going wild financially... those games are just a laugh, this is a passion and falls into its own category. bestbrother
2015/16: Lo bueno, lo malo y lo feo Campeonato Uruguayo - Runners Up Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings The good, the bad and the ugly sums up our season as after coasting toward the Apertura crown, we would implode in the Clausura stage and give the advantage to Penarol for the upcoming playoffs. The early signs pointed toward us being able to retain the title won in 2015 as a 14 game unbeaten streak would secure top spot to open the season. However with the Libertadores kicking off in the midst of the Clausura, we would fail to adjust and soon found ourselves off the pace. In the end a 9th place finish would be well below expectations and gifted Penarol top spot in the Aggregate table, something that could well come back to bite us. Championship Playoffs We found themselves needing to win at the Estadio Campeón del Siglo in order to force this years Championship into a 2-legged playoff. A tight affair would be blown open as we scored either side of the break to take control of the tie. When Forlan instantly replied for Penarol, you would have been forgiven for believing the worst for us. However 3 more goals (as well as a missed penalty) would surge the Tricolores to a remarkable 5-3 win and ensure 2 more games to decide this years Uruguayan Champions. However as per the Apertura / Clausura divide, our playoff efforts would flounder in the same way. Penarol would come out fighting in the opening leg and smash 4 past us on our own patch, all but ensuring their name on the trophy. With desperation in the 2nd leg, we failed to make any headway and saw Penarol pick us off to complete the job, duly adding a pair toward a 6-1 aggregate win as our season would go up in smoke. Copa Libertadores - Group Stage Back to back defeats to open up the group left us with a mountain to climb, but after beating Venezuelans' Deportivo Tachira home and away, we had a shot going into the final 2 games. Unfortunately Atletico Nacional proved to much for us as we let slip an early lead, putting us out of the competition with 1 game to go. A final match-day draw with the Mexicans Veracruz counted for little bar pride as our efforts in Continental competition came to an abrupt end. Copa Sudamericana - 1st Preliminary Round In and out as this foray came too soon for us to make an impact, as a 2-2 home draw with Paraguayans Libertad was as good as it got. Our 3-0 stuffing in the return exposed frailties and naivety at this level. Clásico del fútbol Uruguayo P5 W1 D2 L2 F8 A11 A pair of draws during the season did little to quench the first of each teams fans. We would get the upper hand in the playoffs with a 5-3 win to force 2 more fixtures, however Penarol had the last laugh this year en route to winning the title. Best Eleven Awards Uruguayan Team of the Year Diego Polenta, Nicolas Prieto, Alejandro Barbaro Nacional Fans Player of the Year Matias Cabrera Transfers No one in through the doors as we gave a chance to those already here. bestbrother
2015/16: Manyas nuevo en la cima Campeonato Uruguayo - CAMPEON Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings All round a solid effort by us this year, as the highlight has to be the undefeated run in the Clausura to not only secure the stage but also take the top spot in the Aggregate table. With 3 draws early on in the Apertura effectively handing the advantage to Nacional, we would rally back and almost catch our rivals in the run in of the stage. However it would be the challenge of underdogs Liverpool that caught the imagination in the Clausura, as although we stumbled toward 6 draws, we did enough to hold firm and ensure a place in the Championship playoffs. Championship Playoffs 2 years removed from our last Championship, we had to overcome a stumble (losing 5-3 to Nacional) to claim the Uruguayan title by cruising to a 6-1 aggregate win over our great rival. With Nacional stunning us 5-3 to force a 2 legged playoff, we would rally straight back by scoring 4 in the opening leg to all but ensure the crown. The 2nd leg became a procession with 2 more goals burying Tricolores and sparking crazy scenes among the Manyas faithful. Copa Libertadores - Group Stage A miserable effort this year as not even a final matchday 4-1 win could salvage anything from this years competition. The highlight has to be the hat-trick scored by 17 year old Saracchi, who had not long signed for over $2,000,000. Draws with Gremio and Liga de Quito are nothing to be ashamed of, but just 1 win from 6 games is a poor return and we duly deserved the early exit. Clásico del fútbol Uruguayo P5 W2 D2 L1 F11 A8 The only scorelines that matter here are those that decided this years Championship. Yeah, should the scenario arise where by both teams want/need the same player and have the budget to afford them, then I will place down identical contracts and leave it up to the player to pick his team. Thats probably the fairest route in that instance, bar introducing some sort of random number generator or similar.
bestbrother
2016/17: Nacional en la parte superior Campeonato Uruguayo - CAMPEON Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings Things didnt go so well to open the season, with our faliure to claim the Apertura stage even though we had led the table for the best part of the campaign. Defensor Sporting and Penarol managed to stay in touch and although we scored a league high 41 times, our failure to win our final game, losing 2-1 at Plaza Colonia ensured that Defensor Sporting would be the surprise benefactors. Fortunately things would go smoother in the Clausura, not just because Penarol choked at every turn, but another 39 goals and a 4pt winning margin saw us coast into the Campeonato Playoffs and claim top spot in the Aggregate standings. Championship Playoffs With a home tie vs Defensor Sporting to start things off, we knew a win would clinch the title there and then. However Defensor had other ideas and although we led 1-0, a soldout Gran Parque Central would ultimately leave disappointed as our visitors nabbed a 2nd half winner to force a 2-legged playoff. We then proceeded to hand the advantage to Defensor again, this time leading 1-0 away from home, we would again go down 2-1 meaning that we had it all to do back home in order to win back the Championship. Fortunately a single effort by Fernandez would prove enough and although Defensor hammered at our door, our away goal from the 1st leg would prove crucial as we snagged the title by virtue of away goals and can sit proudly on top of Uruguayan football once more. Copa Libertadores - Group Stage 4 clean sheets and 5 wins saw us romp into the Last 16 of the Libertadores as we topped a group containing Vasco de Gama, Liga De Quito and Huracan. However our run would end there as a tough draw pitted us against Brazilian cracks' Sao Paulo as we lost out due to a 2-1 loss in the opening leg. Overall we put together a solid showing in the competition and can take this years excursion as a positive in the teams development. Clásico del fútbol Uruguayo P7 W2 D2 L3 F12 A15 We split the difference here, losing in the Apertura but bouncing back with a 3-2 win at home thanks to 2 late goals, a great way to win any Clasico! bestbrother
2016/17: La miseria de Peñarol Campeonato Uruguayo - 5th Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Clausura Standings A late run in the Apertura put us within a shout of winning the stage, but although we would win 5 on the spin, a draw and a defeat in our final 3 games would leave us relying on results elsewhere. A 2-0 win at Danubio on the final day gave us a shot, but although Nacional would lose, the surprise package of Defensor Sporting would win and leave us 2nd and looking on. However the story of our season would be wrote in the Clausura. Not only did we fail to win it, not only did we fail to challenge, but just 3 wins, 9 defeats and a run of 2 draws and 5 losses from our final 7 games left us in 15th place and embarrassed. The knock on effect from this disaster is the failure to qualify for the Libertadores, leaving us relying on a Copa Sudamericana adventure for our continental fill. Copa Libertadores - Group Stage With our league form suffering, a run in the Libertadores would have done wonders to life the club and its fans. Things didnt look so sharp to begin with as we picked up just 1 point from 3 games, leaving us on the edge of elimination. Then back to back home wins saw us defeat Leon and then shock San Lorenzo giving us hope and essentially in a 1 game shootout with Chilean aces' Colo Colo in a winner takes all. Sadly for us, the took it emphatically, beating us 3-1 and ending our Libertadores 'obsession' in the Group stage once more. Copa Sudamericana - 1st Preliminary Round A 3-0 defeat in the 1st leg all but ended our hopes there and then, however we had 90 minutes further to play and although we led 1-0 a 2-2 draw at home saw us drop out 5-2 on aggregate to the team from Chile. Clásico del fútbol Uruguayo P5 W3 D2 L2 F15 A12 We beat them in the Apertura as part of our 5 game winning stretch, however the late 3-2 loss in the Clausura was insult added to injury as we looked on from the foot of the table. bestbrother
2017/18: Fracaso de Campeones Campeonato Uruguayo - 3rd Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings Lets start with the 8-3, not a win I haste to add but a loss. Thats right the defending Champions got shelled 8-3 by Racing de Montevideo, a team that wound up relegated to the Segunda. So with that start to life, our season barely got any better staying it touch yet not good enough to win either stage and as such not even qualify for the Championship playoffs. Defensively (8 goal drubbing aside) we were poor, conceding more than any other team in the top half of the table and paying the price for it. Copa Libertadores - Group Stage Out we crashed in the Group Stage with barely a whimper. A solitary win over Fluminense gave us some hope going into the final 2 games, but our gung-ho effort at La Bombonera failed to pay off and Boca Juniors rattled in 6 past our stunned defense. 1 win and 5 defeats is a far cry from our effort last year and is a huge step back in our prospects. Copa Sudamericana - 1st Preliminary Round Sudamericana preliminary time and its just not suited to our season schedule as it comes up early and we are far from competitive. Another 2 legged drubbing, as its in and out once more, losing to our Paraguayan namesakes. Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP5 W3 D2 L4 F15 A19 We split hairs again here with Penarol, winning the tie in the Apertura but our defeat in the Clausura hurt as it set Manyas en route to clinching the stage and putting them into the playoff ahead of us. Best Eleven Awards Uruguayan Team of the Year Dhawlim Leudo, Alejandro Barbaro Nacional Fans Player of the Year Matias Cabrera Transfers A bit of a clear out occurred this time round as we shifted a chunk of squad filler to free up some space to bring in higher earners. Bruno Fornaroli would be the first such deal as the former Nacional Striker returned after a successful spell abroad, notably in the A-League. Cirigliano would prove to be a profitable signing as he stayed for the Apertura before leaving to chance his arm in Brazil. bestbrother
2017/18: Humiliado Campeonato Uruguayo - Runners Up Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings A better effort coming off the back of finishing 15th in last years Clausura phase. Unfortunately we ended the Apertura on the back of 3 losses and 2 draws, leaving us 4pts shy of top spot, a place we had held all season up until that point. Things did improve in the Clausura as we managed to edge our way into the Championship playoff by virtue of goal difference. We managed to come through the pack thanks to a late rally, that included a 2-0 win over Nacional to effectively quash the title defence. Championship Playoff We entered the playoffs knowing that we had to beat River Plate (URU) at their ground to force a 2-legged playoff. Defeat would hand the title to the lesser known side from Montevideo for the first time and sadly for us thats what happened, as a chance to retain the title would be lost in a 3-1 beating. Its hard to watch any team celebrate a title, let alone a side that in theory should not get near the title in the first place. Copa Sudamericana - 1st Preliminary Round Its tiring getting stuffed by teams that we should in reality at least compete with. However it happened again as our Sudamericana hopes are dashed thanks to a 7-1 drubbing by Audax Italiano of Chile. With this being our only Continental fixture of the season, its a disappointment to watch it flush away so easily. Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP9 W4 D2 L3 F19 A15 As has been the case for the past few seasons, we beat each other at home. Out the door saw our 'Keeper Gaston Guruceaga make a big money move to Real Sociedad, something we would never stand in the way of. bestbrother
2018/19: Magnifica Campeonato Uruguayo - CAMPEON Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings After failing to reach the Championship playoff last time out, we managed to instantly put ourselves in the frame as we took the Apertura phase by goal difference. The race proved to be close and defending Champion River Plate (URU) pushed us all the way and when we lost 4-1 at home to Penarol in the penultimate game, we appeared to have blown it. However a 4-0 win at Liverpool (URU) on the final weekend, coupled with a loss for River Plate (URU) gave us top spot by the skin of our teeth. Things then flicked the other way in the Clausura as we looked comfortable enough to win the title outright without the need for a playoff. This time a 4-1 loss to Atenas de San Carlos and then a 2-2 draw in the Uruguayano Clasico return, saw Cerro sneak past us and put themselves in the frame for an unlikely Championship, just 2 years after gaining promotion from the Segunda. Championship Playoff Once again, as Annual Table toppers we had the chance to clinch the title in a one off fixture. Alas, we lost and set off toward a 2-legged playoff hoping to avoid a shock loss. Fortunately a 4-1 win at home in the opening leg would be all we needed, as we shared 6 goals in the return, bringing the title back to the home of the Tricolores. Copa Sudamericana - 1st Preliminary Round Paraguayan teams have our number and we have to take a positive from a draw in the 2nd leg, as once more, a 4-1 thumping put paid to our efforts. bestbrother
2018/19: Que Desastre Campeonato Uruguayo - 14th Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings 3 years without a title and to add to that a disaster of a season that saw us finish 14th of the 16 teams in the country. Our efforts in the Apertura need little explaining, we got stuffed, we failed to win any of our opening 7 games and bar our Clasico win over Nacional, we could easily write this episode from our memory. Alas doing that wouldnt matter given how bad we were again the Clausura. A brief respite saw us win 3 from 4 to top the stage in the opening weeks. Then with the Libertadores in full swing, our minds drifted and so did our league form, pushing us into the bottom half and our eventual finish of 14th across the campaign. Copa Libertadores - Last 16 A shining light for us as we put together an improbable run in the Libertadores, before bowing out in the last 16 to Colo Colo. Our efforts in the group phase saw us win 3, lose 3 and edge out one of the competition favorites in Flamengo thanks to our final matchday win over Godoy Cruz. We then led at home against Colo Colo in the 1st leg of our tie, before succumbing to a 2-2 draw. We again led in Chile, before a 2nd half onslaught saw us eventually broken down as we slipped out of the competition with our heads held high. bestbrother
2010/20: Los Hombres Casi Campeonato Uruguayo - 3rd Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings It was a year that could have been, but wasnt as we failed to defend our title, watching on as others took our charge. Our Apertura efforts came unstuck as it coincided with a soild run in the Copa Sudamericana, coupled with both Liverpool (URU) and Penarol racing away at the top. In the end 4th ensured we still had hopes of topping the aggregate standings at the end of the year. However it was our finish in the Clausura that left a bitter taste in our mouth as with 2 to play, a win in both fixtures would secure top spot and a playoff place. We would beat Villa Espanola 3-1 to head into the final weekend with a chance, however 3-2 up and looking good, we would conceed a pair (the last in injury time) to fall at the final hurdle as Liverpool (URU) spoiled our party and gave the Clausura phase to the unlikely victor Rocha F.C. Copa Libertadores - 2nd Round To compliment our efforts in the Sudamericana, we would put up a decent run in the Libertadores. 2 wins to kick off the group stage set us in good shape to go through, which we did albeit failing to win any of the final 4 fixtures. This put us into the knockout stage, where a 2-1 win at home to Mexicans Morelia could have been better had we not missed a penalty. Then in the return we would go on to shoot ourselves in the foot a second time, as trailing 2-1 and looking likely to go into Extra Time, a 92nd minute winner put paid to our chances and left us with a heartbreaking loss to deal with. Copa Sudamericana - Semi Final For all our disappointments in this competition over the years we finally put on a show by reaching the Semi Finals. Early on our results barely got us through as we beat Union La Calera and then Caracas by the odd goal on aggregate, doing just enough to reach the last 16. Though once there, we began to shine, first by knocking out River Plate, as a 1-1 draw in Argentina set us up for a fantastic night back in Montevideo as we won 3-2 with a late strike by Roberto Noble. Into the Quarter Finals and we would draw the other half of the Argentinian 'Clasico in Boca Juniors. Once again we hung on for a 1-1 draw in the away leg, setting up another memorable return in which we won 2-1 with a pair of 1st half goals to seal the deal. Unfortunately the fairytale would come to a dramatic finish, as Vasco de Gama tore us apart in the Semi Finals, beating us 10-4 on aggregate as the humbling bought us back down to earth with a crash. Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP13 W3 D3 L7 F22 A32 Its now becoming a problem for us as we have lost 7 of 13 Clasicos, failing to win in the past 2 seasons as Penarol did the double on us, scoring 7 times and winning at the Gran Parque Central for the 1st time in 5 years. Best Eleven Awards Uruguayan Young Player of the Year Miguel Servetti Uruguayan Top Goalscorer Miguel Servetti Uruguayan Team of the Year Maximiliano Pollacchi, Alejandro Barbaro, Miguel Servetti Nacional Fans Player of the Year Felipe Carballo Transfers The big note here and in turn the big loss, was the deal that saw Roberto Noble leave for $2.5m to Estudiantes in Argentina. Noble, a product from the academy has scored 18 goals in his 45 appearances for the club. At just 19 and with 10 goals for the national U21 side, he was to be the star we built a team around. Unfortunately he had other ideas and once his head was turned, we had to squeeze out the best deal we could in order to replenish the squad. Interesting deals made this year for us include the signing of Liverpool (URU) pair Olivera and Mallo as the Apertura came to a close. With Liverpool (URU) surprising the league, it was a case of picking the cherries off the top and we did that to bolster our squad for the Clausura run in. bestbrother
2019/20: Rey Penarol! Campeonato Uruguayo - CAMPEON Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings A funny year for us saw failure to win either of the stages, but do enough to comfortably end up topping the Annual standings, as we ensured our place in the Championship playoff. We should have won the Apertura, only for a pair of sloppy results in the run in to allow Liverpool (URU) to come from no-where and leapfrog us at the death. Then in the Clausura we were always in and around the top places, before losing to Danubio on the final weekend put paid to our hopes of winning the Clausura. However our points haul was well worthy of securing a title shot. Championship Playoff With Liverpool (URU) beating Rocha F.C. to decide who we faced, we set about winning our first title in 3 years by destroying Liverpool (URU) 4-1 at home and all but securing our 2nd title in 5 years. The return leg proved to be an anti-climax for our opponent, as they failed to close the gap and a 1-1 draw would spark wild scenes on the pitch as Manyas are back on top in Uruguay! Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP13 W7 D3 L3 F32 A23 A double over Nacional and bragging rights firmly in hand. 2 big wins, the first saw us score 4 and comfortably take the tie. The pre-season saw us go heavy on foreign imports, acquiring 4 Argentines (including a pair of keepers) to help stabalise our defensive unit. We would then add to that core by signing 3 of the Liverpool (URU) players in the mid-season break, pillaging the team that had just pipped us to top spot in the Apertura. Going out would be a mass of players, notably Federico Pintos who for some reason fancied moving to Cali in Colombia in a $650,000 move that bolstered our coffers. Arguably the clubs star, Argentine 'Barbaro has been a staple for Nacional since my arrival. His efforts on the pitch have been rewarded by winning the Uruguayano player of the year twice, being featured in the team of the year in all 5 seasons as well as winning the Nacional Fans Player of the Year award. Barbaro has contributed over 50 goals in total for the club and at just 28, is likely to be a key feature in the teams future success both at home and on the continent. La Generacion Perdida (Lost Generation) It may be a bit extreme to call it a lost generation, but when you get 2 Strikers of such ilk come through the academy, only to lose them pretty much straight away, you can only be upset. Noble and Servetti only managed to play alongside each other for half a season (2019/20 Apertura) before Noble would be snapped up by Estudiantes (LP). 18 year old Servetti managed to see out the season for us, sweeping the awards across the board as he notched 26 goals from 33 starts for the club. However the hawks soon spotted an opportunity and with his agent pushing for a move, Servetti inked a deal to sign for Porto for $725,000 rising to near $2m after all the additional clauses are activated. Kevin Mendez came through the clubs academy nearly 10 years ago, before making a dream move to Italy and signing for Roma. A few loan spells across Europe later and he returned to the club on a loan deal in 2016/17. At the time it was assumed he would go on to leave us after that campaign, however Roma have had no need for his talents and as such we have been able to renew his loan for 4 years, watching him develop into the leagues premier forward. After an astonishing 80 goals in 4 seasons, we have finally been able to confirm Mendez return to Penarol on a full time basis, signing him on a 5 year deal after his Roma contract expired. At just 24 years of age, Mendez will likely break the 100 goal barrier for the club and continue to cement his place as a legend in Manyas folklore. Pequenos Peruano! After a not so hot start to life in Uruguay, Alejandro Hohberg came to life last year as he finally paid back the faith we put in him, bringing him home to the club he began his career with. After returning to Peru, we managed to snag him on a free transfer, 6 years after he left to get first team football. An inauspicious start saw him loaned back to his homeland with Alianza, as it appeared he would be unable to settle back into life at Manyas. However a sparkling return to form last time round saw him lead the club to its 50th Uruguayan Championship and earn the nickname 'Little Peruvian' from the fans. bestbrother
2020/21: Dominacion Campeonato Uruguayo - CAMPEON Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings A start to finish campaign of domination for us as we remove the need for a Championship playoff by winning the Apertura, Clausura and as a consequence top the Aggregate standings. In the Apertura we raced away to a 10pt margin that Penarol were unable to close. A win in the first Clasico of the season (our first for 2 years) helped matters, but with just 1 loss and 39 scored, no one was able to touch us. The Clausura proved to be a little closer, however the aptly named 'Clasico Otormin' proved to be the decisive moment in the season, as a last minute equaliser in the 2nd Clasico of the year ensured that Penarol would be unable to catch us at the top of the standings and as such clinch the Title in the most satisfying manner. Copa Sudamericana - 1st Preliminary Round Back to our normal ways in the Sudamericana as we met Nacional (PAR) once more, losing at home and crashing out 1-3 on aggregate as we failed to match last years heroic run to the Semi Finals. Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP15 W4 D4 L7 F28 A36 It has been a long time coming, Penarol have had our number but finally the pendulum swung back in our favor in the most dramatic of fashion. The first being a 4-2 win at Campeon del Siglo, our first win in 5 years. Then with Penarol closing in at the top of the Clausura, a late strike from Leandro Otormin would steal a point and clinch the title for us in front of a rabid Tricolores support. Prior to that we faced a small exodus in the summer as Perujo a highly rated midfielder swapped Uruguay for Italy in a move to Palermo. Servetti's deal was finalised as he joined Porto, whilst first team players Carballo, Amondarain and Guerra all left the club on free transfers as we were unable to tempt them in to extensions. On a positive note we made arguably the biggest deal in Uruguay for a long time, bringing back Seb Coates on loan from Sunderland for the season. The former Nacional defender took a chance to revive his career back home as we paid over $100k per month for the privilege. Other deals saw us spend $550k on Lacerda a highly promising forward and $120k on Gonzalez, a U20 international at just 17. bestbrother
2020/21: Segundo Mejor Campeonato Uruguayo - Runners Up Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings We were well off the pace in the Apertura, bringing up the best of the rest as we finished 10pts adrift of Nacional and looking back, can point a finger at a defence that conceeded 30 gaols as a key factor in our failure. In the Clausura things were closer and if we had beaten Nacional in the penultimate game of the phase, we would have been favourites to go on to with the stage and force a Championship playoff. However when Otormin scored in the final minute of that game to tie it at 2-2, it was over and as it was we were 2nd best across the season in every department. Copa Libertadores - Group Stage We were far from good enough here but were not helped by a relatively tough group. A pair of comfortable wins over Barcelona (ECU) was as good as it got, as both Racing and Internacional put 5 past us on their patch, as well as doing the double over us to leave us in 3rd and adrift. Copa Sudamericana - 1st Preliminary Round Its hard to explain this one in all honesty. We scored 5 goals away from home, 7 across the tie and yet got hammered. Conceding 8 in Chile wasnt the best start, but the fans got their moneys worth in a 13 goal thriller! At home we chased the tie and went down 4-2, 13-7 on aggregate! Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP15 W7 D4 L4 F36 A29 Tails firmly between our legs here as first off we lost at home to Nacional for the first time in 5 years, whilst the draw in the return wasnt itself a bad result, but the last minute equaliser and subsequent clinching of the Uruguayan title is something that will grate with us for a while yet. What I *have* done before is to manage 2 teams at the same time. It's incredibly ambitious and I'm staggered you managed to last this long sticking to the challenge, because I gave up within like, 2 months of game time. It's extremely time consuming, and a little confusing. How on earth did you manage to avoid the sack the year you came 14th with Peñarol?

Cheers mate, Yeah its a bit more work to play as 2 teams, but its fun - I did it years ago on older CMs so fancied another crack at it. As for surviving the sack with Penarol I think its 2-fold; first we had just come Runners Up the year before and the board seemed to be happy enough to look back on that. But more importantly was our effort in the Libertadores that year, I dont think the Last 16 is that great personally, but the board thrived on that. Also maybe too a much lesser extent was our financial situation, which id bought under control by selling a couple of players to Mexico that summer. bestbrother
2021/22: Maldicion de Penarol Campeonato Uruguayo - Runners Up Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings We struggled to maintain our dominance from last season as Penarol romped away with the Apertura stage, going undefeated and in turn beating us in the opening Clasico of the calendar. Outside of that, we were comfortable in 2nd place but with a 10pt advantage for Manyas in the Aggregate standings, we would need to go on and top the Clausura in order to stand a chance at retaining our title. Into hte Clausura and it proved to be another 2-horse race as we stumbled early to give Penarol a slender lead at the top. Knowing that they would go on to win the title if they won the stage, we mustered a 8 game winning streak to close the gap and eventually overhaul our rival. A second Clasico loss proved a minor blip, as we carried on our form to clinch top spot winning our last 3 games over Sud America, Liverpool (URU) and Cerro. Championship Playoff A full house at the Estadio Centenario came in hope that we could beat Penarol to force a 2-legged encounter to decide this years Championship. Unfortunately things didnt pan out that way and although we scored twice early, Penarol had our collar this year and beat us for a 3rd straight time, scoring 4 en route to a mass celebration in the Black and Yellow end of the stadium. This one stings! Copa Libertadores - Last 16 Another good effort from us in the Libertadores, halted by the Brazilian behemoth Corinthians in the knockout stages. We would beat Atletico Nacional twice in our group, whilst drawing both with Racing Club to send us through in 2nd place. Our defeats to Sao Paulo in the group phase was probably a sign of things to come when we drew Brazilian opponents, however a 2-2 draw at home proved creditable. Alas we took a thumping in Brazil, albeit a pair of late goals making things look a little worse than they really were. Copa Sudamericana - 1st Preliminary Round A decent run and in the end we were unlucky to fall foul of Independiente in the last 16, as wins over Libertad (PAR) and Sporting Cristal (PER) had put us in good stead early in the competition. A 2-0 loss in Argentina left us on the back-foot for the return, however we would go on to level the tie by scoring twice at home via Argentine Funes Mori. Unfortunately we were unable to hold on, allowing Independiente to score the decisive goal late on and end our brief jaunt in the Sudamericana. Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP18 W4 D4 L10 F32 A44 3 defeats, a loss in the Campeonato Playoff and thats all there is to say about our showing the Clasico del Futbol Uruguayo. That $500,000 would be the bulk of our spending as we turned a healthy profit, bringing in over $4m thanks to deals that saw top goalscorer Lacerda join Lyon in France, whilst Perujo signed for Palermo in a deal that allowed him to be loaned back for 12 months. It proved to be a bit of a rebuild for us, the loss of fan favourite Leudo to Banfield on a free transfer wasnt the best of starts to our off-season, but deals to sign Funes Mori and Rodriguez on a free transfer turned out in our favor. Campeonato Uruguayo - CAMPEON Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings Our Apertura efforts were almost perfect, 13 wins and 2 draws from our 15 games. 40+ goals scored and a win over Nacional in the Clasico, ensured we won the stage and had a 10pt lead in the Aggregate table going into the Clausura. Once there, we should really have sealed the deal and avoided the need for a playoff, however a stumble coincided with our Libertadores efforts and although we would beat Nacional again, the Tricolores would pip us to top spot by a point and force a playoff for the Campeonato. Championship Playoff Job done at the first attempt. We did trail twice as Nacional came out of the blocks, but infront of a sellout Estadio Centenario we would rattle 4 past our rival and spark wild scenes amongst the Manyas faithful. Rich and deserved rewards. Copa Libertadores - Group Stage The only obsession we have with the Libertadores is how to fail and how to fail to win away from home. We were out of the competition pretty much after 3 group games. Respite came with a home win over Universidad de Chile, but when we failed to repeat that performance against Jorge Wilstermann, we were out. A final insult would come in Brazil as Vasco spanked us for 6, putting our continental dreams on hold once more. Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP18 W10 D4 L4 F44 A33 It dosent get much better than this on Clasico day. 3 wins including the decisive playoff win to claim the title and its now 10 wins from 18 in the past 7 years over our main rival. Other key players leaving would do so in the mid-season break as teenage keeper Cesar Malan made a dream move to Marseille for $2m that included an option to loan him back to us for the rest of our campaign. Whilst Ernesto Rienzi swapped Uruguay for Serbia, as Partizan Belgrade stumped up the best part of $2m for the 21 year old. Of the $5m bought in, we would re-invest, signing Moreira a former Nacional full back from Juan Aurich in Peru. bestbrother
2022/23: Cinco! Campeonato Uruguayo - CAMPEON Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings A fantastic season set off on the right path as we topped the Apertura, notching 48 goals in 15 games including a 7 goal blitz of Fenix that came off the back of a 5 goal haul against Cerrito. Penarol and surprise package Oriental La Paz kept us honest, but needing just a win in our final fixture, we would lump 4 past Progreso and ensure at least a place in this years Campeonato Playoff. The Clausura proved just as tense, this time a 2-horse race between us and Manyas, that unfortunately we failed to win. The decisive moment came at Estadio Centenario as in the penutimate fixture we hosted Penarol. Leading 2-1 going into injury time, the win would have put the title in our hands... however Hohberg stepped up to smack in a devastating equaliser and give Penarol both the Clausura and aggregate standing wins. Championship Playoff Madness is the only way this can be described. Going into the playoff needing to beat Penarol at Campeon del Siglo, Hurtado (a youth academy prospect) would score a 12 minute hat trick as we went 'Cinco' on Penarol, slamming them 5-0 and re-writing the history books. Into the 2-legged playoff and again we travelled the short distance to Campeon del Siglo, this time to come away with 4 goals and a 4-1 win that all but secured a remarkable title. The return at Estadio Centenario would almost come back to haunt us, as Penarol would score the 4 goals they needed, alas Funes Mori stpped up and slotted home a pair as we would claim our 4th title in the past 8 years 6-5 on aggregate. Copa Libertadores - Group Stage We let ourselves down here as I expected us to progress from this group based not only on the draw, but the talent we have in the squad. Our opening salvo saw us lose in Chile and that proved to be crucial as 'La U' beat us 2-0. A win over America (MEX) would put us back in contention, but that would be our last win of importance as thumping's in Argentina and Mexico (Independiente and America respectively) put us out of the competition, before our own 6 goal slugging of Universidad de Chile in the final matchday. Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP23 W6 D5 L12 F47 A54 We struggled during the regular season against Penarol, notably drawing in the Clausura, a result that handed Penarol a chance to defend their title. bestbrother
Armas Jovenos! Coming off an exciting Campeonato and the historic victory over Penarol, lets take a closer look at the 'Young Guns' of Tricolores as with 7 players in the Uruguayan team of the year and 9 of their own first team under 23, is this the crop of players that will win the clubs first Libertadores since 1988? Lets look at the 4 lads from our Academia which has been a key feature for the club, not only with success on the field, but also financing the club as we have been able to bring in healthy fees for those who have ventured elsewhere. 19 year old Center Half Jorge Mayada only joined up with the first team squad this year and has instantly become the rock in our backline. He has accumulated 12 U21 caps and took a well deserved place in the team of the year for his performances. Partnering him is Brian Plachot. Plachot is also 19 but is in his 2nd year as a regular for us, whilst before that at 17 he played on loan in the Segunda Division. Highly rated, Plachot has yet to reach the peak we expect, but he is coming of age and should be a prominent part of the teams development. The most exciting and probably best player we have produced is Claudio Dorrego. At 22 he is on the cusp of full international honours, which will be well earned given the reputation he has built up at Nacional in the past 2 years. His 10 goals and 17 assists from midfield are just a small part of his armoury, however with just 1 year remaining on his deal, we either gamble and keep him on for one final shot at the Libertadores, or take some money and wish him all the best. Finally is forward German Hurtado. Now he isnt a Roberto Noble or Miguel Servetti, but Hurtado just laced 38 goals for the club, taking him to 48 from 76 appearances (league only). His hat trick in our 5-0 drubbing of Penarol is stuff of legends, whilst he also went nap in our 6-2 demolition of 'La U'. With these 4 players composing the spine of our first team, our additions both domestically and abroad have settled in together, leaving us with arguably the most exciting team in South America. Last years effort in the Libertadores can be dotted down to inexperience, however with our dramatic title win and subsequent qualification again, I expect this team to compete and maybe make their own mark in the long history of Tricolores! bestbrother
2022/23: Una Pesadilla que viven Campeonato Uruguayo - Runners Up Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings A fantastic season for us, building on last years title and looking to repeat for the first time in a long time. We lost out in a close race with Nacional and Oriental La Paz in the Apertura, however our run in the Clausura ensured we would win both the stage and aggregate standings, losing just 3 games all year, scoring 74 goals in the process. Our sole defeat in the Clausura stage would come on the final matchday, 3-0 at home to Racing de Montevideo... setting up what would prove to be 2 of our worst ever losses at Campeon del Siglo. Championship Playoff To put ourselves in the Championship playoff as favourites and with the advantage of winning the aggregate table, no one could have foreseen what was to come. Not only did we lost 5-0 at home, but we would proceed to lose 4-1 at home just days later and give up our chance of retaining the title. A 4-2 win in the 2nd leg restored some pride, but not enough and there are ways to lose a championship and then there is this. Copa Libertadores - Semi Final A brave, exciting yet ultimately disappointing campaign for us in the Libertadores, which (I feel) was ruined in part due to the huge break between our Quarter Final win and the eventual Semi Finals. The return to the competition saw us in the midst of our pre-season and as such, it was hard to retain the form that had taken us this far. However it is harsh to look back on this effort with anything but pride, we topped our group, winning 4 games and only losing once via a late River Plate effort in Buenos Aries. We then eased past Alianza in the Last 16, before an impressive effort saw us oust Toluca (MEX) to setup our Semi Final encounter. Vasco de Gama awaited us and when we returned, even a fervent sellout crowd in Montevideo wasnt enough to set us up for the 2nd leg as we got trounced 4-1 at home. We fared a smidge better in the return, 2 late goals put us out of our misery as a 3-1 loss (2-7 on aggregate) saw our Libertadores dreams disappear in Brazil. Copa Sudamericana - 1st Preliminary Round A close yet miserable effort in the Sudamericana as we go out early doors thanks to a pair of defeats against the Chilean outfit. Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP23 W12 D5 L6 F54 A48 There is nothing to excuse how we capitulated in the Campeonato Playoff, less so when you consider we lost 5-0 at home, then 4-1 at home in consecutive meetings. Its one of those years where you have to take it on the chin, however for a long time, there will be a generation of Manyas' smarting from this. Best Eleven Awards Uruguayan Manager of the Year Ol Penar Equipo Ideal de America Kevin Mendez Uruguayan Team of the Year Alejandro Hohberg, Kevin Mendez, Cesar Malan, Ramiro Guerra Penarol Fans Player of the Year Kevin Mendez Transfers A spending deficit this year for us as we invested heavily on younger talent for the squad. Our big signing would be Jose Salvarrey, a $1m deal saw the exciting teenager join from Liverpool (URU) to bolster our defensive options. Idrogo a Peruvian midfield general signed for what has proved to be a bargain $190k, whilst the free transfer of Ramiro Guerra was inspired as he bought his experience of La Liga and Villareal to the club. The only notable player to leave would be Colombian Fabian Wallens who went back to his homeland after failing to find his way into our first team in his short stay with the club. The $400k represented a small profit on our initial outlay last season. bestbrother
2023/24: El Cumplimiento de mi Obsesion! Campeonato Uruguayo - CAMPEON Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings 14 wins, 1 draw and 50 goals, we absolutely baked the Apertura and resoundingly won the phase ahead of Penarol. Our solitary dropped result came in week 2, leaving us finishing the stage on a 13 game winning streak, the famously included our 8 goals scored against Penarol! The fact that Manyas replied with 6 is neither here nor there, as one of the freakiest games between the great rivals, saw us come out on top in a 14 goal thriller! We would carry our form into the Clausura, winning our first 3 to total a 16 game win streak across the season. We then dropped points at Atenas de San Carlos, before our only defeat in 30 games came as we lost 1-0 in a more sedate Clasico at Campeon del Siglo. Penarol then kept us honest until the end of the Clausura and although they remained undefeated, we managed to win 9 of our final 10 fixtures to clinch not only the Clausura but also our 2nd straight Campeonato Uruguayo in grand fashion. Copa Libertadores - CAMPEON Words will probably not do this justice, but thats all I have to share. We managed to escape a tough group thanks to a matchday 6, 5-0 cakewalk over River Plate, as we found our stride in the competition at the right time. Our first knockout tie saw us draw Morelia of Mexico. A sloppy 2nd half saw us go from 4-1 up, to lose 4-5 at home and put us on the back-foot for our return leg. Fortunately our scoring boots remained firmly on and another 4 goal haul saw us edge out the Mexicans 8-7 over the tie. Into the Quarter Finals and again we lost our 1st leg, this time 2-1 in Colombia as Atletico Nacional got the better of us. Again 2nd leg heroics saw us progress, as this time a pair of 2nd half efforts were enough with veteran 'Lodeiro pulling the strings. In the Semi Finals we would meet Pachuca, defending 2-time Libertadores Champion and favourites to go on and win a trio of trophies. This time we came alive and Tricolores flourished in the spotlight, hammering Pachuca 4-1 at home and then rubbing salt into the former Champions wounds by winning 3-1 in Mexico and ending the spell of dominance. So we had a chance to win the clubs first Libertadores since 1988, not only that, but as the club celebrated its 125th year, the script appeared to already be written. Facing us however would be Vasco de Gama, a team that ended our dream a few years ago in the Semi Finals and themselves desperate to claim continental glory. A sold out Estadio Centenario saw us thrive in the 1st leg as we scored 3 and could have had more, as a 3-0 win put one hand firmly on the famous old trophy. We still had to negotiate a tricky tie in Brazil, so when Hurtado notched the opener midway through the 1st half, Montevideo (the Tricolores side at least) erupted. The fans at home knew it was time to party and although Vasco scored on the night, a 1-1 draw was not nearly enough and we sealed a historic 4-1 to clinch the Copa Libertadores for the 4th time in the clubs history. GRANDE NACIONAL! Copa Sudamericana - 1st Preliminary Round A goal-shy effort from us as we tumbled out 1-0 on aggregate following a bitter encounter with Olimpia of Paraguay. Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP25 W7 D5 L13 F55 A61 A silly Clasico came up first as we came out on top in a 14 goal thriller, that saw us at one point lead 5-2 and 7-4 before Penarol rallied. The 2nd affair was tighter and more on point, however although we lost, we still had enough to go on and clinch the Clausura and as such our 2nd straight Campeonato in a row. Claudio Dorrego hurt the most as he didnt even feature for us this year, instead he signed for Bursaspor in Turkey. Then during the mid-season break, Zumbi would return to Brazil and Mexican Kevin Magana to his home nation, as we totaled near on $5m in transfer fees recouped. Coming in would see us sign one of our own, as veteran Nicolas Lodeiro made his return to the club on a free transfer, to see out his final years back at the Tricolores. We also loaned back Recoba and Hernandez from the clubs we sold them to last year, whilst the nominal fee signing of Brazilian Si'Ve (Sidnei Verardi) would prove to be the best piece of business across South America. bestbrother
2023/24: A la sombra de Nacional Campeonato Uruguayo - Runners Up Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings We were good, great at times but Nacional we just better this year as although we only lost twice, we failed to win either stage and as such saw the title go to Nacional for the 2nd time in a row. A stupid 8-6 Clasico' defeat probably set the tone for our season, as we failed to catch a rampant Tricolores in the Apertura. Then although we remained undefeated in teh Clausura, including a 1-0 win over Nacional. We dropped points in silly games, as we drew 3 times at home 2-2 (against Sud America, Juventud de Las Piedras & Atenas de San Carlos). Results that essentially cost us a shot at preventing Nacional claiming glory. Copa Libertadores - Last 16 We edged through our group thanks to a quick recovery from back to back hammerings by Gremio. A 2-1 win in Argentina over Gimnasia (LP) set us up for a decider in the final matchday. At home we would thump Universidad Catolica to put us through to the knockout stage for the 2nd year on the spin. Once there, we drew Vasco de Gama, a team that months earlier had ended our Libertadores dream in the Semi Final stage. Revenge appeared to be on the cards as 2 very late strikes saw us stretch out a 5-2 home leg win, a dream start to the tie. We then scored first in Brazil as Messi' (neo) netted early, but then things would collapse like a deck of cards. Vasco came alive and we failed to contain them, the momentum of the tie had swung and by the end of 90 minutes, we had lost 5-1, collapsing on the pitch as our chance had been thrown away in the worst fashion. Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP25 W13 D5 L7 F61 A56 We should never concede 8 goals and we should always win if we hit 6. That didnt happen and its a hard result to swallow in the context of the season. Our 1-0 return fixture win gave us hope in the Clausura, but we failed to make the most of it and all in, the Manyas are pretty quiet in Montevideo right now. tyler16
Wow!!!!! Great job, man! I'm tempted to fire up a save in Uruguay after getting hooked on this, especially the constant influx of talented young players. Plus... it seems the least crazy of all the South American league structures. Apologies if this has been answered, but how do you handle matches where the two clubs face each other? Something tells me a Libertadores final between the two isn't that far away. Keep it up.

Cheers mate, yeah its a good structure, simple enough to follow and at most there are 33 domestic games a season, so even with continental football you dont get bogged down too much. As for young players, Nacional in particular seem to be ripe at the moment, where as Penarol less so. I think that dynamic has allowed Nacional to become a bit better over recent seasons, both on and off the field. In games between each other, I manage each team as if I was playing the AI as such. The only difference is I have to hate myself Hopefully there is a Libertadores Final not far off, im not sure Montevideo could handle it though! bestbrother
2024/25: Tricolores, TRI-Campeon! Campeonato Uruguayo - CAMPEON Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings Another dominant outing for us in the Apertura as we would win 13 of our 15 games, scoring 52 and conceeding just 8 times as we left Penarol chasing once more. Our solitary defeat came at home to Fenix ending our hopes of an undefeated stage. The Clausura proved a trickier obstacle and our 3 defeats gave Penarol a chance to playoff for the title. We did however take it to the final weekend and with Penarol drawing, we needed just a win at home to River Plate (URU)... we lost and with it handed Penarol the Clausura. Championship Playoff There have been a couple of wild 'Clasicos' over the years but this one must come close to be the wildest. 11 goals and as many bookings saw the teams take each other apart, with extra time being needed to decide the thriller. Fortunately we had enough to win our 3rd straight title, as a Otomin hat trick in normal time would give us a 4-1 lead at the break. Penarol managed to tie things up, but our substitutes saved the day with Bartolozzi scoring twice, before Pizzatti added the 7th to seal a 7-4 win at Campeon del Siglo. Copa Libertadores - Quarter Final We would cruise through our group in top spot, albeit suffering a 5-0 shellacking in Colombia, as Atletico Nacional took us to task. In the last 16 we faced off with Cruzeiro and a 3-2 win in Brazil set us up to go through as we added 2 more at home, progressing 5-2 on aggregate. A Quarter Final matchup with the Argentinians 'Independiente awaited and when we sealed a 2-0 home win in the first leg, all signs pointed to us making the last 4 and having a realistic chance at retaining our trophy. Sadly that never came to pass, as we fell apart in the return, not just losing and going out, but taking one of the clubs worst results in a 6-0 beatdown. Copa Sudamericana - 1st Round A rocky first tie for us, saw the team give up a 4 goal lead at home to Olimpia as the Paraguayans rallied back to force a 4-4 draw in the opening leg. We managed to overcome that upset by beating them back in Paraguay, before dismantling Juan Aurich to reach the 1st round. Once there we drew Brazilian powerhouse Atletico Miniero. A 2-1 win in Brazil put us in good stead to progress, however a 4-1 tonking back in Uruguay would be all she wrote for us in another disappointing Copa Sudamericana effort. FIFA World Club Championship - 3rd place We failed to hit our objective here as a shock 1-0 defeat to Chinese side Guangzhou, saw us miss out on the Final. We did manage to restore some pride by beating America (MEX) in the 3rd place playoff. Recopa Sudamericana - Runners Up Another tie where we take a beating, as Atletico Mineiro slam 7 past us in the first leg to do all the damage. We recover to lead 4-0 at home in the return and were on the cusp of a remarkable comeback, however 2 late strikes from the Brazilians put paid to that and our chances of winning silverware. Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP28 W8 D6 L14 F67 A72 The big one that matters is the Campeonato Playoff win over Penarol, that saw us score 7 and collect our 3rd straight title. Our Clausura defeat helped hand Penarol that stage, though it matters for little in the context of the season. This came just days after Agustin Valerio reused to renew his contract, forcing a move to Boca Juniors and a return to his homeland. Incoming saw us sign 4 free agents in the off-season, with Luis de Leon finally making his 'ongoing' loan from San Lorenzo into a permanent deal. Experience was added in the form of Pereyra and Pizzatti, whilst Garcia was hopefully the replacement for Carpintero. Finally a familiar face returned in January as we managed to secure a loan deal for Dorrego from Bursaspor. Dorrego one of the best players to don the Nacional jersey has struggled to acclimatise in Turkey and would turn deal an audacious bid from Penarol, to come home. bestbrother
2024/25: Las Damas de Honor Campeonato Uruguayo - Runners Up Apertura Standings Clausura Standings Aggregate Standings Across the season we lost just once, scored 90 goals and secured the Clausura with an undefeated return. We were arguably the better side this year, as once more it was a dominant effort from us and Nacional. Our solitary defeat came in a surprise 2-1 home loss to Rocha F.C. in the Apertura, but with 6 draws across the 30 games, we still at times lack that cutting edge to set us apart from the competition i.e. Nacional! Championship Playoff They all hurt and the wounds get sorer as the knocks keep coming. This time we are beaten in extra time by Nacional to hand them a 3rd straight Uruguayan Championship. We had battled back from 4-1 down to tie things with a late Messineo goal, that secured his hat-trick. However we tired and looked lost in extra time, conceding 3 times and having to face the consequences of the Manyas Hinca' at full time. Copa Libertadores - Group Stage A sickening blow for us this year as we go from topping the group and the high of destroying Sao Paulo 5-1 at home. To losing 3 straight games and crashing out with an anemic 1-0 home defeat to Morelia of Mexico. Our returns from continental competition are becoming thinner with every effort. Clásico del fútbol UruguayoP28 W14 D6 L8 F72 A68 Its hard to lose to Nacional at any time, let alone in the Campeonato playoff as although 'Messi scored a hat trick, we tired in extra time to miss out once more. We still have the upper hand across our recent meetings, but are now 3 years removed from being Uruguayan Champions. Best Eleven Awards Uruguayan Top Goalscorer Kevin Mendez Uruguayan Team of the Year Cesar Malan, Ramiro Guerra, Luis Franco, Alejandro Hohberg, Gerson Salazar, Kevin Mendez Equipo Ideal de America Kevin Mendez Rey del Futbol de America Kevin Mendez Penarol Fans Player of the Year Luis Franco Special mention here to Kevin Mendez who wins the prestigious Rey del Futbol de America, putting him at the top player on the continent. He achieved this with 35 goals in 37 games, adding 17 assists and averaging 7.93. He is the first player ever to win the award whilst playing for a Uruguayan club and at 28 years of age, its just rewards for his commitment to Penarol. Transfers The loss of Peruvian schemer Hugo Idrogo hurt, but the $4.5m gained from the deal allowed us some wiggle room in the transfer market once more. We invested that into another Peruvian in the form of Gerson Salazer, whilst further additions were made in January, notably a $2.3m to bring in teenage sensation Mathias Rojo from Liverpool (URU).
