  1. So you can offer appearance fees and such . Could/should allow you to sign better players.
  2. You guys are tearing through the first season. I still haven't got to Christmas 2022 yet! As for recruitment, I think it's a mixed bag - yes, there are lots of good players but while most will accept a trial, as soon as I try to sign them they get 5-10 offers from clubs in higher divisions. Usually/almost always, they accept one of those offers and refuse mine. Better reputation is often given as the reason.
  3. Nope... usually they go in, sometimes they're cleared.
  4. Congratulations! And I've noticed that players at this level do love a yellow card
  5. Currently engaged in pre-Christmas prep - I appear to be on KP duty today - but Christmas wishes to you, and continued progress with the Owls
  6. This is a great annoyance! I've had a number of players who never receive any interest but as soon as I offer them a trial they immediately get half-a-dozen offers from clubs at a higher level. Then there are the players who offer themselves as candidates but with a "dubious" interest in signing for me. I'm now convinced they're just trying to get me to offer a trial to trigger the higher interest .
  7. Inspired by @Stuniverse's career thread - and the great work done by @lionel messi - I've decided to give this challenge a go. Here's my profile: Introducing Nobby Charlton, named after two of the legends from England's 1966 World Cup winning squad. And my chosen team: Easington Colliery is a tiny former coal mining village in County Durham, roughly halfway between Sunderland to the north and MIddlesbrough to the south. I do have a close connection with the village - my dad started work at the pit at the age of 15. Luckily he didn't work below ground; I, on the other hand, have been down the mine, on a school trip in the early '70s. The coal seams stretch out far beneath the North Sea, making it a terrifying (and damp) experience. As you'll see from the date in the screenshot, I have played through pre-season and the first few competitive matches, just to make sure the save was going to stick. We're predicted to finish outside the playoff places, but I think we might do better than that.
  8. Hopefully, even the U21s might bring a few fans with them. And coaching courses are hard to get at that level - club can't really afford them, and improved badges make you a more attractive poaching target for other teams. All that really matters at this point is getting to Tier 6 as soon as possible, which isn't too difficult because you have key advantages over your rivals: you're smarter than the AI, which makes recruitment and squad management easier for you. And all this chat is making me want to do a Tier 10 save again
  9. I't doesn't. It runs in the cloud on massive, expensive hardware. I'm sure the front-end runs on your iPad, in a web browser or a simple, text-based app (I can't be bothered to register for a trial). But if you want it integrated in FM, that means you'll only be able to play FM when you're online. Additionally, it only runs on your iPad now because you have free access. You won't have free access when OpenAI starts to monetize it. As far as I can tell, OpenAI has no plans to license the technology; it looks as though they'll monetize it by charging per query. So SI would have to buy millions of credits to allow FM players to make use of the technology. How much are FM players prepared to pay for slightly better scout reports and ass man advice? It's a cool technology, but its relevance to FM for the near future is pretty much zero.
  10. They weren't very good at it then. Looks like you didn't muster another shot after your second goal. What changes did you make to go defensive?
  11. Tues/Thurs would be typical for English non-league amateurs. If you have a midweek cup game you'll lose one or both of them because of travelling and post-game rest, and you can't reschedule them because - as you've noted - the players have jobs to do. I typically leave training to the ass man because you can do so little in the time available apart from general fitness and physical training. I've never been convinced that players at that level are capable of developing much technically anyway. On the other hand, there's little or no downside to doing it yourself. You really don't need much in the way of scouting. Free trials are your friend - go to transfers/director of football and 'suggest transfer targets' and then pick the positions you want and make sure "free transfers" is selected. It doesn't matter that you haven't got a DoF - your mate Terry or your ass man will make suggestions anyway. Any players available should be invited in on trial, and trial as many as you can. Keep the trials running throughout the season - as you've already seen, your players can be lured away at any time, so you never know when you'll need a replacement. I'd also try to squeeze in a couple of extra friendlies, preferably against bigger teams. The extra games give you more chances to see how your triallists shape up, and they can be a useful source of income. I'm no expert at this level, but I've played a few non-league saves over the years, so I'm happy to help if I can. Good luck
  12. Okay... All midfielders and WBs are told to mark tighter. IF-r is told to shoot less often and stay wider. IF-l told to roam from position. Both Mez are told to dribble more and shoot less often. Everyone seems to be shot-happy in FM23 so the 'shoot less' instructions are an attempt to tone that down. I'd keep an eye on the wingbacks and add it for them if you see too much glory hunting.
  13. I'm AFK for the weekend but will be happy to post when home. Or go to YouTube and search for bustthenet arteta replication.
  14. While you're waiting, have a read of this article: Recruitment and Scouting on FM23 - View From The Touchline It will explain your mistake: setting a four-star hard limit on potential means your scouts won't recommend players with 3 gold stars and 1 or 2 white stars. In other words, they won't recommend players that don't have a "guaranteed" 4-stars.
  15. No doubt it's dependent on squads and individual players, but I'm not finding that. I'm running a 433dm that @Rashidiput together to emulate Arteta's Arsenal in beta, although I've tweaked it a bit to suit my own preferences. But here's the tactic: And here's what we've achieved: Granted, it's with Man Utd (who tend to be overpowered in FM) but it's a long way from plug-n-play. I've tried it on balanced mentality but that does tend to lack a cutting edge, but positive mentality tends to produce shot-happy football. So common in-game tweaks include switching on lower tempo and 'work ball into box'. I've turned off most of @Rashidi's PIs, and his original tactic uses a set of OIs but I've never used OIs in FM and I'm not about to start now. Other personal preferences include using 'stay on feet' because I hate managing yellow and red cards, and the original has an IWB at LB but neither of United's choices there perform well in the role so I switched that to a standard WB on support. Ditto for the original tactic's F9 up front - none of my strikers is great in that role so I defaulted to AFs. Most goals come from the lone striker - Rashford has 14 from 13 starts - and the Mez-att - Fernandez has 9 from 14. The wide AMs have 19 between them. Most assists come from the mezzalas - Fernandez and Eriksen (my two regular starters) have 22 assists from a combined 33 starts. But we do get goals and assists from all over the pitch. Despite the excellent attacking threat (48 goals in 16 PL games, best in the league) we're giving up little in defence - just 11 conceded so far, second best in the league. Kudos to @Rashidifor this one, but it shows you can have a well-balanced 433 that doesn't have to be toothless in attack. And yes, I hate that 3-3 at Bournemouth as much as you do
  16. This isn't the tactics download forum, it's tactics discussion. He's under no obligation to post every last detail.
  17. Liking the look of that defence, but some solid recruitment across the board.
  18. Hooray!! Boo!! But it looks like another season of over-achievement is in-bound. Great start
  19. You took the scenic route but promotion is a fine end to the season. I hope you stay - it would be good to see how you build from here (and we can all be grateful that Windass's contract is expiring - £12k a week for that season!) It would be a great achievement to get Wednesday back to the PL - even if we all know a PL season is unlikely for Roy of the Owls
  20. There used to be a rule for one homegrown player but I think it was dropped from FM21 or FM22. I'm sure it wasn't a rule last year. In any case, the league rules make no mention of it this year so you can play on.
  21. I'd say so. AI is much more reactive during matches... unless you pay attention it's common to find yourself 2-0 up at half-time and losing 2-3 at the final whistle. Off the pitch, human managers still have a lot of advantages in squad building and squad management, but I think the changes in the match engine mean it's harder to build a tactic that will over-achieve all season.
  22. "ChatGPT and GPT 3.5 were trained on an Azure AI supercomputing infrastructure" Not sure how many of us have the right laptop for this.
  23. Commiserations, but look at it as a new opportunity. United are really set up for a 433dm or a 4231, but it's possible to make other shapes work - 2-striker systems are difficult because of the lack of suitable players, but you could try a 4411 with Bruno as a shadow striker, or you could even go narrow if you retrain Sancho and Anthony to other roles. But for getting up and running quickly and easily I'd stick with the 433dm or 4231. I started a new United save a couple of days ago and this is what I'm running: It's a slightly tweaked version of the system I used to great effect in the beta (posted earlier in this thread). Early days, but it's doing OK again: If you wanted, this easily transforms into a 4231 simply by pushing Bruno up to AMC and dropping Eriksen alongside Casemiro in a double-DM pivot. It also gives me a clear development plan for future seasons, just by upgrading the weaker players in successive transfer windows.
