FM24 - PC/Laptop advice thread *** PLEASE READ OPENING POST BEFORE POSTING ***

Recommended Posts

Hi

Was just wondering if this laptop spec could run FM 24

Lenovo V15 G2 15.6" AMD Ryzen 5 5500U 2.10GHz 16GB RAM 256GB SSD

Ideally looking to use a large database, and run around 10 leagues or so and low/med settings for match engine

Would this laptop spec be sufficient to handle this ?

Any advice much appreciated 👍🏻

To me that sounds like some of your hardware is missing required drivers, but I've never had to install Windows myself so I'm not sure.

I'd suggest posting here as I've found the people here really helpful when it comes to technical issues: https://www.cybertechhelp.com/

I solved my problem by taking a free trial of parallels, using my Windows key to create a VM, then created my bootable USB in the virtual WIndows machine rather than my Mac. And it worked :)

Yes, that would be fine.

Hi everyone,

looking for a laptop for FM24 and ofcourse 25 onwards.

budget is currently around £400, preferred cost over performance and just using laptop for FM

not fussed if brand new or refurbished and happy to play at low 3D settings just want it fit for FM25

mainly be using monitor so screen size not important and based in UK.

if anyone could help point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated 😁

UPDATE - seen this? https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/medion-erazer-crawler-e30-core-i5-12450h-8gb-512gb-gtx-1650-15.6-inch-windo-30035526/version.asp?refsource=ldadwords&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_id=18536188076&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD-PMBpIV2qTq_JHIdFLeX7OuXMgA&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwtOo98KdggMVWfHtCh1TXAggEAQYASABEgLU5fD_BwE

That's a decent deal for the price, especially coming with a 2 year warranty.

I’m curious, do you think I could get an adequate laptop for around 300-350 that would survive during fm25?

unsure if I want to spend 500 on one that only play occasionally for one game.

Until we know for sure what the system requirements will be, it's very difficult to say so I'd be inclined to get the £500 one now, otherwise you may find you need to buy again next year unless you're happy to play in 2D.

Ok, I just loaded up a match.  It was fine on medium settings for me.  Anything above that seemed a bit choppy, but not unplayable.  Medium gave a decent framerate though.

It's much better at medium/low but still has moments where the gameplay stutters. I'm starting to think the Iris Xe Graphics package might be the problem? Any other ideas would be very helpful

It's an integrated GPU.  Whilst its decent for an integrated option, it won't be any match for a dedicated graphics card.  When you're using integrated graphics, you have to be prepared to use lower settings.

Got it. Thanks for the help.

It's almost 3 years old at this point, so might be time to think about a new one. Any recommendations for non-gaming specific laptops that will handle FM24 and then FM25 and beyond?

Until we know the specs required for FM25, it's going to be safest to assume a gaming laptop will be needed.

But you can get ones like the one below that don't have all the flashy lights etc you tend to see if it's the look associated with them that you don't like.

Hey Neil, both will run FM24 very well. Neither have a discrete GPU, but the onboard graphics of 12th and 13th gen Intel processors are much improved from past offerings. Without knowing the recommended specs for FM25 I can't say for sure if this will run it without problems, but my guess is that it will be fine with some of the graphical settings turned down. The more expensive one has a generation newer CPU, but I'm not sure the extra cost is justified with the extra performance you'd get. Personally I'd go for the 12th gen one which is £599

Hi Gangor/Kev,

Apoligies for late reply but thanks for your advice.

Further to your reply i was going to go ahead and buy the below laptop:

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/asus-vivobook-15-x1504za-15.6-laptop-intel-core-i7-512-gb-ssd-silver-10251404.html

But I've since seen the below posted for the same price:

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/lenovo-ideapad-gaming-3-15.6-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-rtx-3050-512-gb-ssd-10249077.html

and wondered in your opinion which would be the better all round laptop for playing FM24 (and maybe future releases)?

Thanks Neil

I can't find a laptop or mini PC which meets the GPU requirements for Palia at £300.  Looks like you really need a dedicated graphics card to be guaranteed to run it.

What I will say is that this has the same spec as my Daughter uses to play Genshin Impact which has similar system requirements.

This also doesn't meet the minimum specs but still runs the game, albeit the frame rate does drop at times: https://www.laptopstation.co.uk/products/hp-laptop-14s-dq2512na-11th-generation-core-i5-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-14-fhd-screen?_pos=2&_fid=a1e5c204d&_ss=c

So, this may run Palia, but no guarantees.  If you do want to guarantee then it will require a larger budget, such as for this: https://www.laptopstation.co.uk/products/asus-tuf-fx506lh-h-series-core-i5-8gb-ram-512gb-ssd-nvidia-gtx-1650-15-6-fhd-screen-gaming-laptop

Hello and thank you for that!

whilst deliberating about the extra budget required for the second laptop, it unfortunately has been bought. I think the budget could stretch to around £400 if it can guarantee it can run Palia also.

cheers!

This has a discrete GPU which will be a lot more capable than the iGPU on the other laptop. It's about the weakest dGPU you can get however so temper your expectations. The processing power is probably similar or slightly weaker than the i7, but the battery will drain faster. Overall I'd say it's a better option as it's more likely to be able to handle FM25.

I would recommend looking into upgrading that RAM if you do go for this one.

No new laptop at that price point that I am aware of has sufficiently powerful graphics. You might want to look at the second hand market? You might find a gaming laptop with an i5 and a 2060 for that sort of money?

Hi guys

I am running FM24 on the below laptop spec - Dell Vostro 3500.

When the game is running, the fans go crazy. Is there any advise on how to help this? Fan isnt dirty.

image.png

The problem is that 11th gen Intel processors were not very efficient and when put under sustained load (for instance running a game like Football Manager) they tend to run hot. If your laptop is a thin and light (which these processors were intended for) then quite possibly the cooling solution isn't up to that situation. Undervolting might alleviate the problem a bit, but honestly unless you know what you're doing that is fraught with difficulty and risk so it's probably not worth it.

Edit: how silly of me, I didn't think of the most obvious solution - changing the fan speed. Depending on your laptop there may be a utility within Windows to do this but likely it would need to be done within the bios. There's not much risk to this, but bear in mind making the fans go slower will cause the processor to thermal throttle earlier, reducing performance.

On the second hand market I would hope to pay £400 for a laptop with a 10th gen i5, a RTX 2060 and a 1080p 144Hz screen. Looking at Ebay, that is realistic yet hard to find as a lot of sellers seem to be excessively optimistic.. You might have better luck with Facebook marketplace or Craigslist.

"refurbished" laptops are generally just second hand laptops that have been given a wipe, tested and put up for sale with a short warranty. The main benefit over buying directly from the previous owner really is the warranty, but you really are paying a premium for it. That might affect your ability to afford a reasonably spec'd laptop within your budget.

Hello, I’m looking to get a new laptop just for fm24 coming out, I’m not sure whether to go with this or pay the extra £70 and go with the Ryzen 5 processor or even the 3050ti intel i5.

IMG_1877.png

Just had a look - the next step up has both the Ryzen and the 3050ti. I'm not sure it's worth it though. The processor is perfectly fine, the GPU will be more than sufficient for FM24. 8Gb of RAM is sufficient for FM24 but if you're multitasking then it might be a bottleneck. This is an ok price but for a year old laptop a £20 discount is disappointing. I'd suggest waiting for Black Friday when it will probably  be cheaper.

Hello everyone,

I have decided to upgrade to FM24 after years of keeping FM18 up to date. My current PC is well over 10 years old so I am looking at a big upgrade. I have no real idea what I am looking for in terms of specs but ideally I want to upgrade to a PC that will give me the best experience possible. I tend to manage more than one team at a time with different teams in different nations, therefore I want to run as many leagues as possible with a massive database and quick processing.

I will not be using the PC for any other games but it will be used for Microsoft office and those typical things.

I have had a look around online and came across recommendations 1 and 2 below. I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on them?  Are they what I am looking for or are they over kill?

Option 3 is from Argos, mainly included due to shopping preferences.

Any feedback and advice would be much appreciated and if anyone has any recommendations of their own then please share.

1.  CYBERPOWERPC Luxe Gaming PC - Intel Core i9-11900KF, Nvidia RTX 4060 8GB, 32GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, 650W 80+ PSU, Wi-Fi, Liquid Cooling, Windows 11, Amethyst : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

2. 𝗔𝗗𝗠𝗜 | Gaming PC Computer Gaming, Intel Core i9 11900KF 5.3Ghz 8 Core CPU/RTX 4060 Ti 8GB • Corsair 32GB 3200MHz • 1TB M.2 NVME SSD • 600 Wifi • PC Gaming, Gaming Computer • Windows 11 : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Hi! Thanks for assistance, much appreciated honestly🙏 . I choose above mentioned lenovo flex 5. Now one thing I am wondering,fm25 should also be no issue in near future? I know it's a long shot cause we don't have specs released but your estimated opinion please? Thanks again guys ✌️

Option 3 is the one to avoid to be honest.  The CPU isn't great.

I'd go for the middle one of the 3.  It's actually a really good price for the spec.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply and feedback. The only issue with option 2 is the recent feedback doesn't seem that great, with a good few reviews saying they had issues. It also doesn't have built in wifi or bluetooth... is that an issue? Finally, this is the sort of machine I should be looking at for my playing preferences or is it overkill?

It's overkill in certain aspects - you don't really need 32GB RAM or a 4060 Graphics Card if FM is the only game you're playing, but you do want as good a CPU as possible.

Also, lack of built in bluetooth or Wifi doesn't need to be an issue.  You can get wifi and bluetooth dongles cheaply enough,

Here's another option for you with a decent spec.  It isn't quite as powerful as the one on Amazon but I appreciate what you're saying having read through the recent reviews: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/intel-z690-pc/px2bFG6REV/

Thanks for doing that, is that build you have just put together? You dont think 32gb ram is needed at all then? I have no experience of buying a PC this way, although I do get a good feeling from the website and like the available options of payment. How many leagues and size of db would you reckon that would run?

Yeah, that's one I put together.  32GB RAM really isn't needed for the type of usage you mentioned - 16GB should be more than sufficient.

PC Specialist are absolutely top notch.  They have an excellent reputation.

In terms of DB size etc, it's not really something we can comment on as every user's expectation is different.  But it's a very strong CPU and performs extremely well in benchmark tests: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Intel-Core-i7-12700K/Rating/4119

Can I ask, roughly how many leagues and size of db you run?

I just did the benchmark test on mine and I am missing an SSD, have 6% for gaming, 59% for desktop and 5% as a work station. lol. My graphics card is 5.32% (been playing on 2d). My CPU is UserBenchmark: Intel Core i5-3330.

I tend to load around 10 nations, with all divisions.  Player count usually ends up between 80k and 100k.

Hi,

I've managed to whittle down my hunt for a new laptop to two options.

It'd mainly be used for office tasks, streaming netflix etc , very light photo work and FM with the budget at £850.

https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/lenovo-thinkbook-16-g6-irl-intel-core-i7-13700h-16gb-512gb-ssd-16-inch-wind-21kh001nuk/version.asp - i7 13700h, iris xe graphics, 1920x1200 resolution screen 60hz, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd - £799

cpu benchmark doesn't seem to have much difference in the processor power - https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/5226vs5283/Intel-i7-13700H-vs-Intel-i7-13620H

Apart from the slightly less powerful processor on the 2nd one you seem to get an awful lot more for the extra £50.  Unfortunately neither listing for the second one goes into great detail regarding speed of ram, type of ssd etc)

Can anyone recommend which one might be more suitable for my needs?

Thanks

Despite the description of Xe graphics as being a "card", it is integrated graphics. The second one has a discrete GPU which will be much better able to deal with 3d scenes (like in FM) and may also help with your photo editing.

I've seen Acer Nitro 5 laptops with a Ryzen 7 and RTX3070ti for around that price at a few retailers. Best value I've seen around that price point

Thank you so much Gangor! I was able to change the fan speed and this has helped dramatically with the noise.

So far it doesnt appear to be effecting performance - I only play 1-2 hours at a time.

I would be surprised if this isn't able to run FM25 pretty well. Unless you're flush I don't see a compelling reason to upgrade if it's just FM you want to play.

Hi guys,

I’m looking into a new laptop, I may play a few other games on it but is primarily FM.

What would you recommend for around  £400 - £800, that will work well with FM24?

I don’t really know about laptops so any help would be great! I like to run a lot of leagues so something that would be able to that would be great!

Cheers.

dear computer genuises

which of the following laptops would be best to run FM24 decently? Load a few leagues etc, nothing too ridiculous. wont use it for much else, and will mostly have it plugged into the mains i expect so battery not really a bother. just want to enjoy FM without loading and crashes, and be able to use graphics packs etc.

looking at the ones around the 1000 dollareedoo mark

I messaged a couple week back for a laptop but didn’t get one in the end.

I run large databases with about 15 leagues.
