New Laptop/PC- Help Needed

Recommended Posts

That's tech for you.. particularly when it comes to computers.

There's always something better out there for a great price from one day to the next, and it's hard as a consumer not to get into the trap of waiting and waiting and overthinking things..

Performance improvements are usually marginal things anyway.

I'm constantly cautious about buying new tech with something new on the horizon, or mentioned.

There's new processors coming soon, the i7 7xxx range will be available end of this year from what I understand.

I am in the market for a new computer, the last time I bought a computer it took me over a year to decide...

Welshace changed my mind and getting the Medion Erazor from saveonlaptops, going to their shop to buy it tomorrow.

Ask if you can see it first and see the build quality.... that will be the deciding factor with it.

Check if you are comfortable with how the plastic feels, if the keys are ok etc...

That is the only downside with Medion... that and their horrible customer service, but since you are buying through a vendor, it's all good :)

Hi

I am looking for a new laptop which will run FM16 and potentially FM17 upon release to a high standard.

Could someone with knowledge of the games performance take a look at the below laptop and advise if its suitable?

I have checked game specs and it looks sufficient but I want it to run well. Could someone advise?

Budget and needs beyond fm?

£500 and mainly just browsing. Will this laptop be good enough?

I have checked against spec and I am really looking for a I5 processor, dedicated Graphics card, 8GB RAM, 2.6Ghz + CPU and 1TB harddrive which this has I think.

Wanted some advice on here so I dont waste my money? Would like to run a few nations once I get used to game again.

Well worth it for the extra £50, the Skylake cpu's provide stonking performance.

Cheers for the recommendation. Will go for this one for the extra £50.00.

Do you reckon this will play FM16 to a high performance?

Hello folks,

read pages and pages of advise re laptops and seen a few good ones recomended etc.

I've been needing a new laptop for a while, my previous done me well, its about 6 year old and still runs FM decently... JUST!

I'd love some of your expert opinions below. I seen them recomended to others. I'd like to play FM with a handful of leagues and using the 3D match engine. I'm not overly knowledgeable regarding particularly the graphics cards.

Which one would you most recomend (if any)? Would all run 3d match engine well enough? Would I be over spending when buying these? Do you recomend anything with better value for money? Are they LIKELY to be good for newer versions of FM for a good few years?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

But honestly, it's a toss up depending on your needs ..

The msi linked above is fantastic and will handle fm great.. as will all of those linked tbh..

The question then comes down to what else are you looking for.. is it Lots of ram? Good SSD? lots of HDD space? Good build quality?

Surely by reading all the pages and pages you saw that a budget is the minimum we need to be able to recommend a laptop ;)

Oh...

Didn't think about mentionting £££!

Well around £500.00 but if I can get something of better value that will do the job for years to come then I'm open to ideas.

Realistically, is it possible to play FM on a 2-in-1? My laptop has battled on for 5 years but is coming to the end of its life - as someone who enjoys the full-depth career mode of FM more than touch (although I do play touch), and as someone who is also massively into Total Extreme Wrestling, I will of course be looking to replace it soon. However, I've been thinking about going for a 2-in-1.....I'd love to be able to play FM and TEW "on the go" a little bit more. Not that it's overly taxing with my laptop, but it's pretty bulky and awkward and not too easy to take around- a 2-in-1 would be so much easier to move around, to fit in my bag and to use on the train and whatnot.

I know FM is resources-heavy but that is lessened with me as I don't use the 3D all-singing, all-dancing graphics in matches. So maybe a decent 2-in-1, if any meet the FM specs, would be the way forward.

Anybody had any experience of playing FM on a 2-in-1 laptop/tablet and maybe able to advise?

If anyone is serious about buying a new computer and can wait, I recommend you do wait. The 7th generation processors are scheduled for early 2017.

This not only means there will be a new wave of better processors for people on the higher end of budgets, but it also means the 4th/5th/6th gen processor prices will drop in price for the people on the lower end of the budget scales.

You could likely see prices drop before Christmas as stores try to offload older stock.

Just a thought.

I would recommend people have a look at Novatech (uk manufacturer). i buy PC bits and bobs from there and they build quality & service are great. My laptop i bought there is about 3 years old now and was bought in the clearance section for £799 (i7 3630 CPU/16gb Kingston RAM/250gb SAMSUNG SSD/nvidia GeForce 680m GPU). Still plays newer games on high - ultra settings and plays FM2016 with many leagues quickly. Also, as mentioned previous, PCSpecialist are top notch.

These companies are not just vendors but PC builders and will no doubt be of far superior build quality/last-ability than other vendors mentioned

Haven't used Novatech in a while, but they used to use Mitac laptops.. don't know if they still do obviously... pretty decent if not over priced.

Sorry Welshace, i bought this about 3 years ago, but yeah would be overpriced now lol. sorry i didn't make that clear. yeah, they do some good deals in their clearance section for laptops with hardware of the generation before but usually well spec'ed and well built.

Can someone tell me what I need to look for when buying a new computer? I want to run many leagues for a journeyman game - something like 20 leagues and 100k players (approx)

How many ram would I need? What processor? etc.

Best processor you can afford.. and I would recommend 8GB ram or above...

Hi all.. wondering if anyone can assist?

Currently using a Dell Inspiron 1540.. served me well but now seems to be dying.

Looking for a good replacement option, it's mainly used just for FM, browsing the net, Office etc. Don't play any other games.

Usually play one long term save for maybe 10-15 seasons, the 6 big leagues and watch matches in 3D.

Budget as low as possible really!

Thanks

Hi Guys,

Need a bit of help, currently have an iPad and laptop (which was bought solely to play FOotball Manager) I'm thinking of selling both and getting a Microsoft Surface Pro 4, which is the best one to get? To at least future proof me for a couple of years of Football Manager? It won't be used for anything strenuous just casual use and FM.

I'm just after a little guidance as which one to get which is best value, I don't want to by a i7 if I don't HAVE to, and if an i5 should run it well for a couple of years.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What's your budget and expectations for a FM save?

Hi

I am a long time reader and FM'er but never posted!

I really am struggling with all the different options for a laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I basically want a fast game time when having 3/4 countries with full league set up loaded, for my unemployed saves.

Im looking up to around £500 (realistic?) and have outlined a few i have found below however the 2.2ghz processors seem to put me off as is this not the MINIMUM requirement for FM? I want something that will last me a few years.

ASUS X555LA - DM1381T

ACER Aspire E5-574T

HP 250 G4

Acer Aspire E5-773

ASUS X555UK

Any other recommendations?

Kind Regards

John

£500 is realistic for what you have outlined for sure...

This has been linked by Smurf a few times now..

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J322-292-MSI-CX62-2QD-292UK_1895896.html

It's fantastic..

The cpu is a generation or two old, but it will outperform most U based i5's and i7's for grunt power (great for fm)

And frankly, I can't find much better than it.

Thank you for your recommendations.

How long do you reckon these will last me? Are we expecting FM to bump its require specs anytime soon!?

Also is 8GB Ram suffiecient? Worst case is there potential to add to it?

FM scales up it's recommended specs at a slower rate than the vast majority of games on the market... and put it like this, My 7 year old ancient i5 dell is playing this version better than it did the last (due to optimisation etc) , not that that will necessarily be true for everyone.

On the whole the one I listed will almost certainly be fine for a few editions yet if SI stay the course and improve at the current rate.

8 gb ram is sufficient enough to run the game fully and multitask while doing so. And yes, there is definitely potential to add to it... RAM is cheap as chips these days too.

The SSD will improve boot and load and save times for your FM saves, as said it has no graphics card, so playing 3d would be a challenge for it, but not impossible on lower graphic settings.

If I were you I'd wait 6 months until the new 7th gen processors are released, there should be a price drop in older stock with the older generation processors at around this time.

Plus 6 months gives you chance to save another few quid to it.

You'll increase your longevity chances by holding out a bit longer.

The integrated graphics on it will handle fm on low to medium absolutely... My old dell's (3rd gen) integrated graphics handles fm beautifully tbh..
