Group Stages 2018/19

Not as convincing as last season, but a tougher group and we did well to get through. Two draws against group winners RBL, with all 5 goals from Poghosyan, proved to be great results. However, the 3-0 win against Olympiakos away was the decider, and we wrapped up the group in style by beating Sparta 6-0.

Braga will be very difficult to face, but given we were group runners up it could have been a lot worse. A tight 1-0 victory at home could give us a chance.

We've now gone two whole calendar years unbeaten! Not bad for little Armenia, although we haven't faced any powerhouses yet. We're looking very good defensively, only 4 conceded in our 7 games and never more than one. What's more, we won our group so next competition we'll be up to the B league.

d9a74bbffd7508d7f94ffd8ae38060ce.png

I'm very happy with this group. Of course Italy are the favourites, but I reckon we can give Czech Rep and Iceland a good run for 2nd place; we've already beaten Iceland. We've got to make sure we don't slip up against San Marino and Luxembourg, who will be battling for the wooden spoon.

Overall Best Eleven

Pyunik Youth Intake 2019

Terrible, terrible intake. I've tagged the one player deemed 'one of the best in recent years'. I beg to differ.

Looks very, very average.

A flukey away win but overall I think we deserved to get through.

We've been rewarded with a match against the holders. Elsewhere there is the Red Bull derby :p

He wants to go to Barcelona, so rejecting the bid from Real Madrid would be good or him...I know FM doesn't work that way

Well, I managed to get through the transfer window without losing him. I had bids ranging from Real/Barca to Slavia Prague / Zorya...

I think it's only a matter of time before I will have to let him go, but I want a decent deal at least.

Best result of Youri's career so far. A 3-0 aggregate win over Europa League and Serie A holders Roma.

Next up we face another former Soviet side Shakhtar. Spurs and Milan playing each other will be interesting.

Wow. Just to clarify.....

This is an Armenian club that I have never heard of, (I have never heard of any Armenian clubs), and it's only 2017....... :applause:

It is an Armenian club with only Armenian players in May 2019 and we're in the Europa League Final

Phenomenal stuff in Europe. Shocking bid from real for the young legend that is geolyan!

Cheers @SixPointer. Unfortunately all players in Armenia are worth peanuts so good bids are unlikely. Banants lost a good prospect to Lorient for just £10k!

Cheers @andychar - although they did stop us from getting to the CL I reckon we could beat Dinamo now. Unless they are our bogey team....

As expected we will be lining up in our tried-and-tested 4-4-1-1 formation. No surprises in the selection, although youngster Armen Ghazaryan 18A gets the nod ahead of Artur Nadiryan and Gor Malakyan in defensive midfield as he possesses greater defensive quality.

73e7d69b75c31454d3d268500d6c3be7.png

The slightly more experienced Ayvazov starts ahead of young starlet Kocharyan 17C because he just edges it ability wise. He's been solid throughout the season.

8e5bd542235caf1e100c5acef04c8fa0.png

Kamo is a converted winger to full back and he has really made it his own. We need pacey full backs and he provides exactly that.

3f21e73a8c5d7250c2b5625bef63de59.png

Robert is our leader in defence. Although he is declining a little physically, I expect him to be a key organiser and but his body on the line.

269ea9f45ae38492be80e5ba49bfab5c.png

Haroyan is a physically dominant, aggressive centre back. We need him at his best.

840de3bb2790e0c39cc9cd5efd129a9b.png

Arman Hov has become first choice for club and country and he's a good all-rounder with the pace needed to do a solid job at full back in our system.

9e9ccf3ab6192b5344f6b721efc45c76.png

Dirty Eddie is our Roy Keane. He is crucial for us, if he manages to stay on the pitch...

64b2e9a02cb3b26dcc1fe01164438d62.png

Armen Gazza is set for a very bright future and has the quality to make an impact right now. Works well with Dirty Eddie.

bd749c02ff0308bf36a29d362d483858.png

Avagimyan has developed very nicely into a traditional winger. Quick and whips crosses into the box. Likes a goal himself too.

87ab3165568b36d915b7247780428b96.png

Gazza is not a traditional winger, but he can whip crosses in and cut inside, getting his fair share of assists and goals. In a young attacking line he provides experience and consistency.

b9c581254a2b868609b46301f818bd92.png

Gevorg 'Georgie' Geloyan is the star of the show, scoring and creating for fun. If he plays well, we've got a chance.

5c7d4c1c2d16869c71f72ec05ffa8ee3.png

Pogga, as I call him, is a born goalscorer. He's got an incredible 16 Europa League goals to his name in 14 appearances, leading the charts. He consistently defies his overall ability with solid all round advanced forward/poacher attributes. Fox in the box.

78796f557a244fad607dec20b9a7f17b.png

Managed by Luciano Spalletti, who took Roma to the Serie A and Europa League title last season, Man City have just secured the Premier League title. He favours a 4-2-4 strikerless formation as his attacking default and this is the line-up my scout has predicted. Yikes.

In all honesty, it was the right result because City were the better side. But gutting to concede in 121st minute and lose on penalties.

A domestic treble and a European final - best for an Armenian side in history. Crowds are improving across the division as well. Armenian football is on the up!

League Table

Another close-to-unbeaten season, our only loss to Shirak with a reserve side just a couple of days before the Spurs 2nd leg. Less goals scored than last season,; teams are going all out defence against us now.

Transfers

8de4c31a73e920782afdfba0193c2171.png

Haroyan and Ghazaryan were our key transfers this season, Voskanyan returned because he could and Malakyan added depth. Only reserve players sold, good overall.

Player Stats

Clear to see how important our first choice front four are. The youngsters from the first couple of intakes are really starting to shine - shame 2019 intake was ****-poor.

Overall 11

Pogga's goalscoring record is just insane, as is Georgie's average rating.

We qualified with relative ease for the champions league; the first for an Armenian side. However we were brought back to reality with the group we were drawn:

Holders Arsenal and a strong Atletico; I think we've only got an outside chance of pinching 3rd from Shakhtar.

Heartbreaking to lose the final in that way still a unbelievable achievement. I also have never seen the AI go strikerless. Facilities are going to be unreal after this next upgrade could be filling the national side for years to come. Excellent stuff

We started our Champions League campaign with a thrashing in London but followed that up with back-to-back home wins against Shakhtar and Atletico. We finished the group stages by winning in Ukraine which was enough to see us finish 2nd behind Arsenal and amazingly ahead of Atletico.

We've through to Euro 2020 and in some style! We got the double over a very poor Italian side and only Czech Republic and Iceland managed to beat us in their own nations.

We went on a 20 game unbeaten run between November 2016 and September 2019 - I'm very happy with that record.

Ahh I'm with you now. They're being played in March 2020 - Italy are in it . As we have already qualified for Euro 2020 I assume that our spot was given to someone else.

Youth Intake 2020

e3088c3bd0228b175381de663fa6e10d.png

Nothing special, but a core of players who could become decent first team players so I'm relatively happy after last years awful intake.

6afaf2228ac97442925d2da9fb407ed6.png

Narek is the pick of the bunch. He's a big lad who likes to get in the box. He will be trained as a shadow striker and tutored to improve his determination.

bb303b5810d440d8071f11373dbc0339.png

We're lacking in quality at full back so I can see Aleksanyan breaking into the first 11 in the not too distant future.

f6227bc0858a95fadef09376592d5973.png

A little small/weak for centre back so he will be re-trained as a DM.

455e5d20ad9731bfe0fd1ea138d1c787.png

French-born Ararat looks like he could become a decent player.

Needs a lot of work but has a decent mental/physical base.

Sometimes boring is good! Spalletti and his strikerless are gone and we held Man City well and actually had the better chances. Geloyan, Haroyan and Hovhannisyan will miss the 2nd leg through suspension :(. We need an early goal to stand a chance.
