Yesterday when 14.3 came out I started a brand new save as I usually do this time of year. However I'm still seeing some of the same old stuff from previous patches: - no urgency in the play & players dithering on the ball - wingers still reluctant to run at FB's - doubling up on wingers still happens occasionally - woods are still floating around a bit too much - there are a few more I'm sure but not that obvious My question is that with a new patch: are the ME updates instanly shown in the game? or does it take time to flush the cache out? SurferJames Posted March 1, 2014 Share Posted March 1, 2014 They noticed straight away, my tactics work amazing in this patch. It's fair to say that your tactics are causing these errors. My players hardly dither on the ball but sometimes it can been see as dithering but in fact they just making a decision on who too pass.my wingers at United always run at the fullbacks and I set them as attacking wingers further up the pitch which might help you. Also upon start up is there 14.3.0 showing in the bottom right hand corner? I had a slanging match a couple of weeks ago on here and dont intend to start another one, but I just think this ME is atrocious. I couldnt wait to turn it off. In answer to Surfers comment: I assume you play as Manchester or Newcastle Unted? Fine, you and everyone else can play as whoever you want. But I have always had this feeling that the modern ME is built for teams in the PL, La Liga, Serie A and of course the precious Champions League. Teams in the lower countries and leagues are just left in the lurch. I mean the lower tiers of Sweden, NI, ROI, Wales, England, Italy and Spain as well and elsewhere in between. Them teams dont play the 4-5-1 slick passing game that the top teams do. Fine a lot of people like to play as these teams but a fair few of us like to start low down. These players are just not convincing at all on this ME. Oh...... and please do not say "Its your tactics", I know how to set team and player instructions up. Im not necessarily losing matches, results are not the problem. It just does not look convincing. If this is the final ME version then its bye-bye 14, back to 12. I'd be interested to know what level you are playing at as balancing all leagues across all nations is obviously a tricky task owing to different ability levels, any thoughts on the way we can improve this element of the ME is always welcome. To my eyes they dont act like wingers. Wide passing options and Inside forwards is what I see. Teams at that level and lower levels in England IRL will play 4-4-2 with wingers, target man etc. Basic, direct, English football. They dont have the skill to play complicated 4-3-3 or 3-at-the-back or diamond shapes. I always read in LLM guides "Keep it simple" and thats what i try to do. Its not paying off. Maybe it is just me, and the fact that I am in the habit of nitpicking. Days gone-by I used to just enjoy the game but I'm questioning everything now. "Is that goal a bug or exploit", "Is that meant to happen", "Is that realistic" I mention 12 because Ive played that one the most. If you play a wide formation: You have width. If you play a narrow formation: its all got to go through the middle. If you set a ML/AML as a winger, then the run at FB's, try to get to the byline, try to cross from wide etc. It just works! for teams at all levels. This doesn't. Im talking generally because you can go so deep into this it would take me ages to co-operate. My rumblings are general, the whole feel of it. If you're using relatively short ones, it might be that your wingers are ineffective and in fact are attempting to run down the flanks but you just don't see it because it isn't marked as a highlight. You can check your analysis screen to see if they are actually attempting runs or not. Another option is to post your tactics in the tactics forum, there might be something that somebody can suggest to help you getting the wingers playing the way you want Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Tony Fallows Posted March 2, 2014 Share Posted March 2, 2014 I've been playing a 'classic' 4-4-2 formation with numerous teams on my save (from Conference N/S all the way up to Premier League). I've got two Wingers in Attack duty, a BWM next to an Advanced Playmaker and a Target Man next to an Advanced Forward. I find that the team play pretty much how I want (and similar to my favourite Oxford United team of the 90s!), the BWM wins the ball, lays it off quickly to the AP who sprays balls out wide to the wingers who get to the byline and cross for my Target Man. I can't remember an FM Match Engine when this tactic has worked better to be honest. From the sounds of it this is a similar style to how you want to play? It could very well be the level I'm playing at as well like the other comment stated. Do I start with a blank 442 and no instructions at all? or give the team and players a fair few specific ones? From a personal point of view I literally try to create a tactic to play the exact same style of football I want to watch in real life (e.g. a direct and pacey 4-4-2). What I've found is that this way of playing is so so dependent on each position having a specialist type of player. For example, I've just been relegated for the first time in my FM career because I went into a season without an extremely determined and hard working BWM. One weak player and the whole system falls apart. Other tactics probably accommodate jack-of-all-trade type players better, but I enjoy the way my team play so it's worth it:) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Today I have started another save on full game and the ME is incredible!!! What is going on here? My 442 worked a treat, wingers played like wingers and it was brilliant. That was only the first friendly. The ME on FMC was utter garbage and it looked all over the place. Looks like I'm a happy bunny after all. This is a perfect example of how a clearly frustrated player can air their concerns and frustrations and yet stay objective.. and when it's done in this manner, no-one, certainly not the mods or SI will likely object. When it is done so, help is easily found and solutions/progress can be made. It's good to see Goob, and I hope you work out a solution for your teams. FMC ME... well I dont know whats going on there One thing to note is that the ME on Simulation Mode and Classic are exactly the same. I actually need to change my tune completely. This is the best ME SI has ever made by a light year. Not seen anything wrong with it so far(on full game) but its early days. Wingers now working beautifully, sprinting down the line with the ball and crossing! DLF dropping right into the midfield to link up the MF and attack. I need to try my preferred 433 shape with 3 strikers and the 2 wide ones dropping off wide. If that works then I'm in heaven! I never played full game for about 3 months so I've been using FMC for the most part. There is something wrong with the ME on FMC on my installation but it is not important to me anymore, but may be to someone else. Because I fired full game up fresh for the first time in 3 months, that may be why the ME is so different on it. Either way I'm gonna settle down with 14 now and play a long career.
