Bruno Gama's Management Career - January 2024 - Bayern Munich

Midseason Friendly

CareerSave-BayernMidseasonFriendly-Jan2024_zps1a1b73da.png

Once again I chose just to play one friendly duing the long midseason break, and again we went to China for the added income the fixture brings. We gave Guangzhou a 5-0 thumping as we got the legs going again, and most pleasingly Robert Lewandowski grabbed a couple to get some more much needed confidence heading into the second half of the season.

What a couple of great results to kickstart the new year.

The 4-1 win away at Frankfurt did flatter us a bit in all honesty, but we simply took our chances when they came. We were two up within twentyfive minutes, but on the hour mark they halved the deficit. However, two late goals made sure of the points. Next we bagged four again, this time against Weder Bremen as we thumed them 4-0. We flew out of the traps and after just five minutes we were 2-0 up. Veteran Thomas Muller added a third before halftime and then just six minutes from time David Alaba sealed the win with a great long range strike.

We're now top on goal difference after Dortmund dropped two points at Bochum, and crucially we still have two games in hand.

Transfers

There was a bit of business during January with three players brought into the club. Two of them are very much for the future, but the other may ring a bell for a few of you.............

Mattias Tempesta

A young striker signed for decen money. He has a lot of developing to do, but given the right traning he could turn into a very good player for us in a few years time.

Ross Hobbs

He's just fifteen years old and cost only £700,000. He's definitely worth a gamble!

Pavlo Denys

Some of you will hopefully remember this chap - he came through the youth system many years ago at Bukovyna, and as a 16 year old set the Ukrainian Premyer-Liha alight. He has stayed with them ever since and has become a solid little player. I signed him mainly because Bukovyna are in some financial bother, and the £3.8million paid for him will come in handy, However, I'm sure he can help us out by contributing the odd goal.

This stage of FM is always a little depressing for me. Seeing the big names and great servants retiring.

Depressing? It's the most exciting for me, especially on this save. It's going to be great fun rebuilding this team, especially seen as some of the older players are so important.

Don't get me wrong, I love rebuilding squads. But it's always sad seeing the big names fade away.

CareerSave-BayernLgeTable-Feb2024_zps6642a01f.png

A busy month, but siz wins from six now see's us in a very commanding position.

We started with an eventual comfortable win against Mainz. They went ahead after around half an hour, but we eventually got the equaliser just after the hour mark. Toni Kroos put us ahead just four minutes later and Thomas Muller later wrapped up the points. We then gave Hannoever a good thumping, and Pavlo Denys got his goal for the club. The Ukrainian was then in great form as we thrashed Hoffenheim 5-0, grabbing himself a hattrick - I never expected this impact from him! A solid 2-0 win away at Galdbach followed, woth youngster Gunther Lange grabbing himself a brace. Another 2-0 win followed away at Dusseldorf, and it was Pavlo Denys who got the breakthrough at a time when we were struggling to get through them. Cesare Scarchilli added the second. The month was rounded off with a thumping 4-1 win over title rivals Dortmund. By halftime we were 3-0 up and totalling dominating the game. Dortmund did pull one back and threatened more thereafter, but we kept them out and and in stoppage time Miguel Angel Ferreras got his second of the match.

It's obviously well and truly in our hands now. We next face Nurnberg away from home.

DFB-Pokal - Quarter Final

CareerSave-BayernDFB-PokalFixtures-Feb2024_zps2d8ab3e6.png

Really not a great performance, but we got the win and into the semi-finals we go. Robert Lewandowski got the ball rolling early in the second half, but despite controlling things we had to wait until the fourth minute of stoppage time to seal the win.

In the semi-finals we face Dortmund at the Aliianz-Arena.

Champions League - 1st Knockout Round, 1st Leg

CareerSave-BayernCLFixtures-Feb2024_zps8a766c0e.png

A great win at one of my old clubs and we're well in control of the tie. We had to see off some early pressure from Benfica, but after around twenty minutes we got more of a foothold in the game and then started creating chances. Gunther Lange, who has been outstanding in Europe, got both of the goals in the second half to give us a 2-0 lead heading into the second leg at home.

An excellent, undefeated month! The treble is looking good. Long way to go yet, though. As you say, the league is well and truly in your hands and only yours to throw away now.

I'd definitely agree. Very tough game to come in the semi-final of the domestic cup though, and there are some great sides left in the Champions League. The treble will be difficult.

Bruno Gama's Management Career - March 2024 - Bayern Munich

Bundesliga

CareerSave-BayernLgeTable-Mar2024_zpsb9923617.png

Five wins from five and now it's all but over.

Nurnberg gave us a real game, but Jackson and Cristian Machuca put us 2-0 up inside the opening half an hour, but before the break Nurnberg got one back. We saw out the second half to take the points 2-1. Schalke was our game in hand, and a very close game was won in stunning style by Thiago. A routine 3-0 win over Bochum followed, with two veterans getting on the scoresheet aswell as a late strike from Joao Pedro. Another tight game at Hamburg was won by Thomas Muller who slotted in with style. The month was rounded off with a comfortable 2-1 win over Wolfsburg. The disappointing thing was conceding in the 92nd minute to rob us of a cleansheet.

We travel to Stuttgart in our opening game of April.

Champions League - 1st Knockout Round, 2nd Leg

CareerSave-BayernCLFixtures-Mar2024_zps003beec6.png

Another comfortable win over Benfica, and we take the tie 5-0 on aggregate. Gunther Lange put us 1-0 up at the break, and then as Benfica tried to attack in the second half space opened up and Cristian Machuca was afforded space to add two more, one of which arriving in the 90th minute.

In the quarter finals we realistically got the best draw possible.

Green circles all across the board!

I'm sure getting used to them!

What a second half of the season so far! Nice to see you really put Dortmund in their place as well :)

It's happened a few times, but they always bounce back. They're going to be difficult to shake of year in year.

Decent draw against Porto in Quarter Final

We should certainly be getting through to semi-finals, even though it won't be as easy as it looks on paper.

You're having a great season so far. Now that the league is pretty much won you should have a great chance in the CL as you can rest key players in league games.

That's certainly the idea - get the league won as soon as possible so I can rotate for the European games.

Not our best month, but the title is now secured!

The month started with a tough fixture away at Stuttgart. We fel behind just before the break, but early in the second half we equalised from the penalty spot. Both sides could have won it, but a draw was the right result. The title was wrapped up before the match at Kaiserslautern, but we still went there and took the three points. We weren't at lour best and had to rely on two goals from setpieces, but still a win is a win. Union Berlin then came to town and really put up a fight, but we eventually got the breakthrough in the 86th minute and a second was added minutes later to give us a 2-0 win. The month finished with our first league defeat if the season. Many players were rested due to involvement in the Champions League, and early on Schalke just blitzed us. They were 2-0 up after just eight minutes, and in truth we couldn't have moaned had it been atleast double that at the break. We were much better in the second half and got a goal back just nine minutes in, but we couldn't get the equaliser and so it finished 2-1 to Schalke.

The season finishes with a home game against Gladbach and a trip to Leverkusen.

DFB-Pokal - Semi-Final

CareerSave-BayernDFB-PokalFixtures-Apr2024_zpscd9c186a.png

A very even game, but we couldn't get the win to take us through to the final. Both sides had decent chances throughout the game but neither seemed to want to win it! Dortmund got what proved to be the winner just twelve minutes from time, grabbing a goal from a corner.

Disappointing to go out, but I can't complain with how we played.

Champions League - Quarter Final & Semi-Final

CareerSave-BayernCLFixtures-Apr2024_zps9a67d362.png

So close and yet so far. United just shaded us in the semi-final.

First though was the quarter final against Porto, and they really gave us a tough couple of games. Joao Pedro had us ahead very early in the first leg, but Porto equalised after half an hour and then went ahead twenty minutes from time. However, we managed to get a draw and a second away goal thanks again to Pedro. He hit another double in the second leg, with the goals coming either side of a Porto equaliser. We weren't at our best, but thanks to Pedro we won 2-1 to take the tie 4-3 on aggregate.

In the semi-final we faced Manchester United, with the first leg away from home. United shaded possession but created little, whereas on the counter we always looked like we could score. We should have probably won it, but 0-0 seemed a decent enough result. In the second leg eighteen year old Uwe Meier was handed his Bayern debut, and he didn't disappoint, putting us 1-0 up in the fourteenth minute. We had total control of the game but couldn't get the second goal, and with twelve minutes remaining United equalised with a stonking strike from long range. We threw eveything at United in the last ten minutes, but we couldn't grab the goal needed. Out on away goals.

A good end to the seaosn as we took four points from two tough fixtures.

We dished out a 4-0 thumping to Gladbach. Jackson and Joao Pedro got us off to a great start and in the second half Thomas Muller added anither two to make it four goals in three games for him. The season was rounded off with a 1-1 draw at Leverkusen. We played really well and probably deserved the win. We did in fact fall behind, but Thiago equalised following a nice pass from Uwe Meier. The game petered out to a draw eventually, but we should have really won it.

Would love to see you manage at Man United with your philosophy some day, probably after you are done with Bayern :)

Be a long time yet will that. With such a big transition to come at Bayern over the next couplle of years, exciting times lay ahead. Unless they sack me I'll be here for a good while.

I wasn't too far out with my prediction in the end. Well done on an excellent season.

We were ahead of your prediction. :brock:

Fantastic league campaign, putting Dortmund in their place (for now :D). Shame about the cups though, had you nailed on for Europe.

Dortmund will come again, Ive not doubt about that. As for Europe, it was always going to be tough. United have been great over the last decade under David Moyes. The tie was really close, and really could have gone either way.

Bruno Gama's Management Career - Season Review 2023/24 - Bayern Munich

Bundesliga

Results 1 - Results 2

Final Table (1st - Champions)

A marvellous league win after last seasons disappointment. We were on fire early on and really took charge early on when we won our first ten games. Dortmund came back into it when we missed a couple of rounds while away at the Club World Cup, but at Christmas we had won thirteen and drawn two of our opening fifteen games. A great winning run from Janaury of thrieen games really won the title for us, and it was secured after our draw with Stuttgart after Dortmund dropped points prior to our game with Kaiserslautern. We slacked off in the final few games, but still finished the season with a record equalling 91 points.

DFB-Pokal

Eliminated in Semi-Finals

We had a good run to the semi-finals winning comfortably in three of our four games. The one sticky one came against Wolfsburg which came so soon after the Club Wolrd Cup, but we came through it 3-2. The semi against Dortmund was a really tough match which could have realistically gone either way. As it was, Dortmund nicked it with a goal from a corner. It was tough to take, but it happens.

Dortmund went on to lose the final, getting beat by bitter rivals Schalke 3-2 after leading 2-0 at one stage.

Champions League

Eliminated in Semi-Finals

We were very good throughout the competiton, but eventually we came unstuck against United in the semi-finals on away goals.

The group stage was an absolute breeze as we won six out of six - even Paris Saint Germain had no answer to our early eason form. One of my former clubs, Benfica, were then swept aside with ease in the First Knockout Round by five goals to nil. In the quarters their fellow countrymen Porto gave us a real tough couple of games, and it was Joao Pedro who came to our rescue getting all four of our goals over the two legs. The semi-final matches against United were very tight, but they came out on top on away goals over the two legs. After a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford we made a great start in the second leg when debutant Uwe Meier put us infront, but after failing to kill the game United scored a screamer to equalise and take the tie on away goals.

United faced Manchester rivals City in the final at the Stade Velodorm, and thrashed them 5-0!

UEFA Super Cup & Club Wolrd Cup

UEFA Super Cup - Winners

Club World Cup - Runners-up

We put in a great performance so early in the season to beat Real Madrid and win the Super Cup, taking a very early lead and then grabbing what proved to be the winner after just twenty minutes! 2-1 it finished.

We didn't do so well in the Club World Cup. After battering Al-Ittihad 4-0 in the semi-final, we faced Sao Paulo in the final and didn't really have much of an answer to their box midifield. We twice came from behind, once in normal time and once in extra time, but we were pretty fortunate to take it to penalties, which we lost 19-18.

Other Info

Squad Stats - Transfers - Finances

Tons of players used this season, both young and old. Great to see Thomas Muller making such a contribution at the age of 34, and the other old chaps. Was delighted with Holger Badstuber in his 16 appearances in what is his final season before retirement. Very special mention for young Gunther Lange aswell, he was superb.

Transfer wise nine came in and nine went out, and we made a profit of £9million over the course of the season. A few of our signings were for the future, and hopefully we will see the benefit of such investment in young players in the years to come.

The finances, well, there's no need to say much really. They're alright I suppose.

Top 3 Players

João Pedro

Another magic season. Not as many goals as last term, (still a great return of course), but he added bundles of assists to his game this year. Superb.

Toni Kroos

Not loads of goals or assists, (14 combined not bad though) but a good performer in the Deep Lying Playmaker role. He keeps the ball so well, and that will be hard to replace when he retires in the next year or two.

David Alaba

The same as last season - just outstandingly consistent at leftback. In the squad we have young Steffen Bittroff who is an extremely good player, but Alaba just refuses to let his powers dwindle in the slightest.

What Next

Not overlly sure. Players such as Kroos, Thiago, Martinez, etc, etc, can't go on forever and maybe it is time to either put my trust in youth or spend some money on one or two marquee signings. If it's the latter, I have some targets in mind already.

A good season as they finished in their highest position for eight years. They got 39 points, which is some going. They were knocked out of Europe in the Europa League playoff, going down to Atalanta 4-0 on aggregate. But the reality is that that represents a decent account given of themselves.

Just finished reading this over the last couple of days and it's been one of the best careers I've had the pleasure of reading. Congrats on the success so far and I'm looking forward to the eventual rebuilding at Bayern.

Thanks alot. Hope you keep following, there's plenty of legs left in this one yet. :)

Important that we immediately get work underway after falling back due to technological advances.

Disappointed that sponsorship revenue has taken such a hit. I can only imagine it is down to our faltering league performances over the last few years - two titles in six years isn't good enough for Bayern.

Bruno Gama's Management Career - Season Preview - 2024/25 - Bayern Munich

Board Expectations

Bundesliga - Challenge for the title

DFB-Pokal - Not Important

Champions League - Reach the quarter-finals

DFL-Super Cup - Not Important

Personal Expectations

Bundesliga – Attempt to retain it

DFB-Pokal - Blood the youngsters

Champions League – The semi’s are my minimum aim

DFL-Super Cup – Be nice to start the season with a trophy

The board have yet again scaled back their expectations. A bit surprised to be honest given what we achieved last season, but nevermind, it means less pressure on me. A change is coming at the club with no fewer than six players over the age of 33 having contracts due to expire at the end of the campaign. Young players need to be blooded, so in that respect the boards scaled back expectations are somewhat welcome.

Budgets

Transfer: £200,840,294

Wages: £5,000,920 p/w (Currently spending £2,318,263)

Balance: £671,541,780 (+£37,755,157)

Outstanding budgets as usual. Not sure how much of it I will spend as I'm still unsure about whether to put trust in my young players or whether to bring in a marquee signing or two. It's a tough decision.

Link to post

Wow, I've never seen transfer & wage budgets go that high. :)

Have you noticed that Pavlo Denys sort of looks like Leo Messi? :D

Well it helps when you're in the Champions League every season, get over £33million just for finishing third in the league, and have ridiculous sponsorship deals! As for Pavlo Denys, it's juts a pity that's where the similarities end!

Since the board scaled back their expectations, trust your young players and blood them this season!

It is the way I'm leaning - my main couple of targets have been impossible to get hold of because despite the money we have available I won't pay what I think is too much.
