Great work at Celtic.

And Long Eaton.

Well done on the title, even though it's expected.
The domestic treble! Well done!

Cheers fellas. Domestic dominance is looking like it's back on the cards at Celtic after a few years of 'trophy-less' seasons :D. What will be difficult though will be Europe.

As for Long Eaton...nice to see them in the Football League now :). Who knows...I may go back...

Celtic - Season expectations 2027/28

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

League expectation

-------------------------

Clydesdale Bank Premier League : Board expectation - Win the league : Media expectation - 1st (out of 12)

Cup expectations

---------------------

Champions League : Group stage

Scottish FA Cup : Reach the final

Scottish League Cup : Reach the final

Transfer budget : £9.25M

Wage budget : £290k p/w

Current wage bill : £294k p/w

Season tickets sold : 42,187

My views for the season ahead… : Even though we managed to complete a fantastic treble last season, I still think that the team could do with a few more additions just to give us that extra strength in depth and quality. So, during the pre-season I’ve managed to bring in no less than 8 players as Adam McNeil joined us from Hearts, Nathan McCall joined from Dunfermline Athletic, Jack Grimmer joined from Reading and the wonderfully named Gregor McGregor joined us from Brighton, all on free transfers. Jamie Malone joined us from Shamrock Rovers for £200k, Pape Soumare joined from Rosenborg for £500k and we splashed the cash on Northern Irish international Marty O’Connor as he joined us from Rochdale for £5 million, while Kyle Nixon also joined us on a season long loan from Manchester City.

Celtic - July 2027/28

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

25.07.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Dundee : 3-1 : I opted to give the whole squad a long summer break this season so no pre-season was organized for us. It was a gamble as I rarely begin a season without any pre-season…but it seemed to pay off as our first game saw us welcome Dundee to Celtic Park and within 5 minutes we were 1-0 up thanks to new signing Jack Grimmer. Dylan Johnston made it 2-0 7 minutes later before Borivoje Protic completed the scoring for us just before half time to give us a great start to the season.

July League Table : No-one looks at the table after just one game but it’d be nice if it stayed like this all season :D.

Celtic - August 2027/28

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

08.08.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Celtic : 0-2 : Caley Thistle were surprisingly the better team in this game but it’s goals that win you games…and it was Marcus Dahlgren’s and Pape Soumare’s that won it for us.

15.08.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Hibernian v Celtic : 0-3 : An early season massive clash at Easter Road saw us take on Hibs who were wanting to reclaim their title after we took it from them last season. Things didn’t start well for them though as Josh Vela put us 1-0 up after just 10 minutes. Marc Renton doubled our lead just before the break before Marty O’Connor completed the scoring as he netted his 1st goal for the club since his big money move.

22.08.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Ross County : 3-0 : A quite remarkable game, not for the superb hat-trick from Adam Kirk, but for the amount of times we hit the woodwork! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game where the woodwork is rattled so many times; but we got the win and that’s all that matters.

28.08.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Falkirk : 0-0 : We created chances in this game but unfortunately for us our strikers didn’t have their shooting boots on as the game fizzled out into a bore draw.

August League Table : We’ve continued our fine start to the season with 3 wins and a draw this month which leaves us sitting top of the league, 3 points clear of Dundee United.

Some more great news for us this month saw us complete 2 more signings as another Northern Irish international joined us, David Shannon who comes in from Blackpool for £3.5 million while Brazilian Douglas comes in on a free transfer after his contract expired at Bordeaux.

…And one more bit of news for us was the Champions League Group Stage draw as we’ve been handed a tough group alongside the likes of Barcelona, Roma and Sparta Prague. Obviously Barca are the clear favourites and Roma are favourites to claim the 2nd qualification spot but I think given a bit of luck, we might be able to pip Roma to that 2nd place. If we don’t though, we’ve already reached the group stage which is what the board wanted so either way, we can play without any pressure.

Celtic - September 2027/28

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

12.09.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Queen Of The South v Celtic : 1-5 : It was a tighter game than the score line suggests as both sides created chances but it was us who proved to be the more clinical as we put 5 past SPL new boys Queen Of The South.

15.09.27 - Champions League Group E - Barcelona v Celtic : 2-0 : Our trip to Camp Nou was always going to be difficult and that proved to be the case as Barca completely controlled every aspect of the game, so in the end, to keep it at 2-0 has to be seen as a decent result as daft as that sounds.

18.09.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Dundee United v Celtic : 2-0 : We suffered a European hangover as so many teams do in our next league game as Dundee United, who were sitting just below us in the table before kick-off, fully deserved their win thanks to their new South African striker as he hit both goals.

21.09.27 - Scottish League Cup 3rd Round - Forfar Athletic v Celtic : 1-2 : What should’ve been a comfortable win for us against a vastly inferior side proved to be a difficult game which almost sent us out of the League Cup at the 3rd round stage. Thanks to Gerry Hall’s extra time winner though, we managed to avoid the lottery that is penalties as we somehow scraped into the next round!

25.09.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Rangers : 2-2 : The first Old Firm of the season saw us take the lead twice only for Rangers to equalize twice meaning that we had to share the spoils with our city rivals.

28.09.27 - Champions League Group E - Celtic v Roma : 3-2 : A magnificent European night at Celtic Park had the place jumping as we somehow, after getting battered for much of the game, managed to beat Roma thanks to goals from Marty O’Connor and a brace from Adam Kirk :D.

September League Table : 4 points from a possible 9 this month sees us slip down to 2nd in the table as Dundee United, after beating us, climb to the summit and sit 2 points clear. While it’s obviously early days, Dundee United look as if they could make a real go for it this season, especially if their new South African striker can continue his striking form.

As for our Champions League campaign, we always expected a loss to Barcelona but a win against Roma gives us a great chance to push them all the way for the 2nd qualification spot.

Celtic - October 2027/28

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

02.10.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v St. Mirren : 3-1 : We kicked October off with a dominant performance against St. Mirren as a goal from Josh Vela and a brace from Adam Kirk, his 8th and 9th of the season gave us a fairly easy win in the end.

16.10.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Heart Of Midlothian v Celtic : 3-1 : Hearts surprised us somewhat in this game as despite it being an even affair with both sides having chances, Hearts struck 3 times in 17 2nd half minutes to leave us licking our wounds and on the end of our 2nd league defeat of the season.

19.10.27 - Champions League Group E - Sparta Prague v Celtic : 0-0 : I’d of taken a point before this game kicked off so to walk away from the Czech Republic with a point is pleasing as it leaves us in a decet position within the group at the halfway stage.

24.10.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Motherwell v Celtic : 0-0 : We suffered another European hangover as we weren’t at our best at Fir Park as we had to settle with a point against a side we should be beating.

27.10.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Inverness Caledonian Thistle : 2-0 : We ended the month with a solid 2-0 win against surprise strugglers Caley Thistle thanks to Adam Kirk’s 10th goal of the season and Marc Renton’s 2nd goal of the season.

October League Table : Again, like last month, we took just 4 points from a possible 9 which still leaves us sitting 2nd in the table, 2 points behind Dundee United. While obviously we’d like to progress in Europe, we have to make sure that it doesn’t take our focus off our bread and butter…the league, as twice we’ve not taken the full 3 points when we’ve played a game after a European game.

Celtic - November 2027/28

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

03.11.27 - Champions League Group E - Celtic v Sparta Prague : 4-0 : 2 weeks earlier saw us play out a closely fought 0-0 draw with Sparta…this game couldn’t have been any different as we smashed Sparta for 4 and in truth, it could’ve and should’ve been 7!

07.11.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Dundee v Celtic : 0-0 : Again, we failed to take all 3 points after our European night 4 nights ago as Dundee held us to a 0-0 draw.

20.11.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Hibernian : 1-0 : A massive win against probably our nearest challengers (despite their current low league standing) thanks to Adam Kirk’s 12th goal of the season. It wasn’t all great news for us though as both Marc Renton and Adam Kirk picked up injuries. Luckily Kirk’s was just a minor knock but Renton’s will keep him out for 2-3 months after he tore his hamstring :(.

23.11.27 - Champions League Group E - Celtic v Barcelona : 1-1 : I was expecting another footballing lesson from the Catalan giants so we set up ultra defensive with 5 at the back. The game didn’t turn out like that though as we put in an incredible effort to match Barca and take a point from them which confirms our qualification from the group :).

28.11.27 - Scottish FA Cup 4th Round - Raith Rovers v Celtic : 0-1 : How we only won this by a goal to nil I’ll never know but the important thing is that we won and progressed to the next round while also claiming a win after a mid-week European game.

November League Table : A win and a draw in the league keeps us 2nd, 2 points behind leaders Dundee United while a win and a draw in the Champions League confirms our qualification from the group stage :D. We also progressed to the 5th round of the Scottish FA Cup after disposing of Raith Rovers so all in all, a good month :).

Celtic - December 2027/28

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

01.12.27 - Champions League Group E - Roma v Celtic : 2-1 : We’d already confirmed our place in the 1st knockout round so the result against Roma was of no real importance. Good job really as Roma battered us and in truth it could’ve been a lot worse than the final 2-1 scoreline.

04.12.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Inverness Caledonian Thistle : 3-0 : A brace from home-grown youngster Barry Milne and a solitary goal from Pape Soumare saw us easily dispose of Inverness Caley Thistle fairly easily.

12.12.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Ross County v Celtic : 0-0 : Ross County frustrated us as we just couldn’t break the deadlock as in the end we had to settle for a point.

18.12.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Falkirk v Celtic : 1-0 : A below par performance from us saw Falkirk inflict the 3rd league defeat on us as Solly March’s 69th minute strike gave the home side all 3 points.

22.12.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Queen Of The South : 1-0 : We struggled to beat bottom of the league Queen Of The South as despite peppering the opposition’s goal with shot after shot, we could only manage the 1 goal, scored by top scorer Adam Kirk. It would’ve been nice to increase our goals for column but the important thing is that we got the 3 points.

26.12.27 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Dundee United : 3-0 : Boxing Day saw a massive top of the table clash between ourselves and Dundee United with the winner claiming top spot. I was expecting a tough game but what we got was far from that as we dominated Dundee United and ran out easy 3-0 winners :-).

December League Table : 3 wins, a draw and a loss sees us end the year by re-claiming top spot in the league while we’ve also been handed a tough draw in the Champions League 1st Knockout Round as we’ve drawn French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Celtic - January 2027/28

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

02.01.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Rangers v Celtic : 0-0 : Games at Ibrox are always tough so I’d of taken a point before kick-off.

09.01.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - St. Mirren v Celtic : 0-1 : This game was no where near as close as the score line suggests as although we only managed to beat St. Mirren 1-0, we could’ve and should’ve scored a hat-full!

12.01.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Heart Of Midlothian : 3-1 : Goals from Marcus Dahlgren, captain Abdou Guemegah and the free scoring Adam Kirk gave us a comfortable victory over Hearts.

15.01.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Motherwell : 3-0 : We kept our opponents very quiet as they failed to register a single shot on our goal while we scored 3 of our own to give us all 3 points.

22.01.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Dundee : 2-0 : Borivoje Protic’s 24th minute strike sent us on our way to 3 points as Adam Kirk confirmed the win for us 4 minutes after the break.

26.01.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Hibernian v Celtic : 0-1 : Everything happened in this game; a sending off, injuries and an own goal. Thankfully the own goal went our way which gave us all of the points.

30.01.28 - Scottish League Cup Semi Final - Celtic v Motherwell : 2-0 : 15 days earlier saw us beat Motherwell fairly easily and this game was no different as goals from Marcus Dahlgren and Adam Kirk were enough to book our place in the League Cup final :-).

January League Table : A superb month for us which saw us win 5 and draw just 1 league game has us sitting top of the league with a 9 point lead over Dundee United :-). We also booked our place in the Scottish League Cup Final after defeating Motherwell in the Semi Final :-).

Celtic - February 2027/28

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

02.02.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Celtic : 0-3 : The 3-0 score line slightly flattered us as it was a tighter game than the final result says. Still, I’ll take it!

06.02.28 - Scottish FA Cup 5th Round - Celtic v Queen Of The South : 2-0 : Goals from Adam Kirk and Marty O’Connor were enough to confirm our place in the next round of the FA Cup.

12.02.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Ross County : 0-0 : Ross County frustrated us last time we met and once again they frustrated us this time around in a fiery game which saw both us and the away side reduced to 10 men.

16.02.28 - Champions League 1st Knockout Round 1st Leg - Celtic v Paris Saint-Germain : 1-1 : How we managed to walk away with a draw in this game I’ll never know but we did and it gives us a great chance in the 2nd leg. A tough chance but nevertheless a chance.

20.02.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Queen Of The South v Celtic : 0-2 : We disposed of Queen Of The South 2 weeks earlier in the cup by a score of 2-0 and it was a reverse score line this time around as Marjan Perisic’s and Pape Soumare’s goals made it 2-0 to us.

26.02.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Falkirk : 2-0 : We battered Falkirk as we dominated every single department of this game.

February League Table : Another great month for us as we extended our lead at the top of the SPL to 12 points, made it through to the Scottish FA Cup Quarter Final and gave ourselves a real fighting chance of making it through to the next round of the Champions League with a draw against PSG in the 1st leg of the 1st knockout round.

Celtic - March 2027/28

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

04.03.28 - Scottish FA Cup Quarter Final - Ross County v Celtic : 1-3 : We rode our luck in this game as Ross County had their chances, including a penalty which they missed but we took full advantage and took our chances when they came to win 3-1 and progress to the semi final.

07.03.28 - Champions League 1st Knockout Round 2nd Leg - Paris Saint-Germain v Celtic : 1-0 : I can have no real complaints about exiting the Champions League after this game as we were totally outclassed by a very strong PSG side in a game which probably should’ve seen us lose by a lot more than what we did. We can be happy with our progression in this years Champions League though as we made it out of the group stage.

12.03.28 - Scottish League Final - Celtic v Ross County : 2-0 : We claimed our 2nd successive Scottish League Cup after a 2-0 win against Ross County to put another piece of silverware in the trophy cabinet and send our fans home very happy :-).

15.03.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v Rangers : 1-0 : Marty O’Connor’s solitary strike 8 minutes before the break was enough to give us the win and claim all of the bragging rights for our fans.

19.03.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Dundee United v Celtic : 3-2 : Dundee United showed that they’re not ready yet to give up on the title as they were good value for their win against us as they narrow the gap on us…slightly.

26.03.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Heart Of Midlothian v Celtic : 1-1 : A poor performance from us saw us somehow manage to nick a point from Tynecastle as Hearts probably should’ve consigned us to a 2nd defeat on the bounce.

March League Table : A bit of a mixed month for us really as we won the League Cup, progressed to the Semi Final of the FA Cup yet were knocked out of the Champions League and blew hot and cold in the league. With no more League Cup or Champions League games now though, we can focus on league games and look forward to trying to make it to the FA Cup final next month.

Celtic - April 2027/28

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

02.04.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Motherwell v Celtic : 0-2 : A game of few chances saw us take what little chances came our way as Marc Renton’s and Marjan Perisic’s goals gave us all of the points.

08.04.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Celtic v St. Mirren : 2-0 : The final game of the SPL before the league split saw us beat St. Mirren thanks to a surprise brace from our veteran defender Michael Chambers.

16.04.28 - Scottish FA Cup Semi Final - Falkirk v Celtic : 0-1 : Marc Renton’s superb 25 yard strike was enough to give us the win and make sure that we’d be appearing in our 2nd successive Scottish FA Cup Final :-).

22.04.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League Championship Group - Dundee United v Celtic : 1-3 : We got our revenge from our previous 3-2 defeat against Dundee United last month by beating them 3-1 at their place to confirm our 2nd successive SPL title!!! :-).

29.04.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League Championship Group - Celtic v Hibernian : 1-1 : Having claimed the title we took our foot off slightly in this game, which you can’t really blame the players for as Hibs grabbed a point to give their chances of next seasons Champions League qualification a boost.

April League Table : A great month saw us confirmed as SPL champions whilst also booking our place in the FA Cup Final where we’ll meet Hibs.

Dominating the league as expected, aren't you? Good luck in the cup.

Thanks. This year yeah, we're expected to win the league. Last season was more of an achievement as they hadn't won the league for a while and Hibs were looking like they were starting to get a foot in.

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

03.05.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League Championship Group - Rangers v Celtic : 0-2 : Even though we were crowned SPL champions and had nothing to play for, it’s never acceptable for Celtic fans to lose to Rangers and vice versa so 2 strong sides were put out in this game. Marjan Perisic and Marty O’Connor made sure that it was our fans who were singing on their way home as we defeated our hated rivals once again :-).

06.05.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League Championship Group - Falkirk v Celtic : 1-1 : A rare goal from Jamie Malone rescued a point for us 2 minutes from time to spare our blushes against Falkirk.

10.05.28 - Clydesdale Bank Premier League Championship Group - Celtic v Heart Of Midlothian : 2-2 : Goals galore in this game as both sides threw caution to the wind with the draw probably the fair result.

13.05.28 - Scottish FA Cup Final - Celtic v Hibernian : 2-1 : Quite a close final saw all of the goals come within 12 1st half minutes as Adam Kirk’s brace was enough to give us the win and claim the FA Cup for us to complete a superb back to back domestic treble! :-).

May League Table : A fine last month for us saw us claim the SPL title by a massive 18 points in the end while also claiming our 2nd successive FA Cup!

Celtic - Season Review 2027/28

Celtic_zps1d15035c.png

Celtic

Clydesdale Bank Premier League/Clydesdale Bank Premier League progress : A fairly comfortable league title win for us in the end as Dundee United petered off and Hibs, who have been so dominant the past few years failed to make any kind of title challenge.

Scottish FA Cup : A 2-1 win against Hibernian claimed our 2nd successive FA Cup after going 6 years without winning it previous to last season.

Scottish League Cup : We saw off Ross County in the final to, like the FA Cup, claim a 2nd successive trophy.

Champions League : We went one better than what was expected of us as we made it out of the group stage and into the 1st knockout round where PSG unfortunately sent us packing.

Transfers : 10 players joined us over the course of the season for a combined cost of £9.25 million, those being Adam McNeil, Nathan McCall, Jamie Malone, Kyle Nixon, Marty O’Connor, Jack Grimmer, Gregor McGregor, Pape Soumare, David Shannon and Douglas. Quite a few went out of the other door as some were sold (for a total of £2.3 million) and some went out on loan to get some experience of first team football.

Squad : The squad of players did exactly what was asked of them and more this season as they once again claimed 3 trophies in a season. Like last season, much of that was down to Adam Kirk whose 28 goals in all competitions went a long way to helping us lift 3 pieces of silverware. Marty O’Connor also did well in his debut season with us as he helped himself to 14 goals after his big money move from Rochdale at the start of the season.

Finances : Looking good as we made nearly £25 million!

My views of the season… : A superb season for us especially as we claimed a fantastic treble once again.

My aims for next season… : Another treble and the knockout stages of the Champions League would be my aim for next season…if I was at Celtic but after receiving this offer in the last couple of days, it gives me some serious thinking to do!

Former club watch

Long Eaton United : Having won the Blue Square Premier play-offs last season and the Blue Square North title the season before, not many people gave them a chance in their debut season in the Football League…they finished 4th in League Two this season and won the play-offs making it 3 consecutive promotions and into League One!!!

Burton Albion : Finished 15th in League Two.

Leeds United : Finished 13th in the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest : Finished 6th in the Premier League and won the League Cup after beating Manchester United in the final :-).

…After much deliberation…I decided to accept the offer from the Northern Irish Football Association :). While it may seem a sideways move to some as things were starting to gain momentum for me at Celtic, it is ultimately an international job which is something I think during this save is right for me. It also helps when the current crop of Northern Irish players are probably some of the best in recent years which should make my new job a little easier :).

Northern Ireland

I join Northern Ireland with them sitting 35th in the current world rankings after a superb 2028 European Championship saw them reach the Quarter Finals! Yes, the Quarter Finals! As I said, the current squad sees probably some of the best Northern Irish players in recent years with the likes of Matt McKay, Andy Cooley, Wayne Cochrane and Glenn Donnelly the stand out players. With the majority of the squad still fairly young and with a few real gems, like Gerry Garrett at Arsenal coming through, the future does look bright :)…a perfect time for me to take over :).

The Northern Irish FA want us to be competitive in the World Cup Qualifiers but having seen our World Cup Qualifying Group which consists of Germany, Turkey, Ukraine, Moldova and Andorra, I think we might be able to sneak into the runners-up spot, obviously behind Germany who are overwhelming favourites.

Northern Ireland - Expectations

Northern Ireland

World Cup Qualification expectation : Be competitive in the group

My views for the season ahead… : As I said in my previous post, the FA just want us to be competitive in the World Cup Qualifying group which is good as there’s no pressure on us. I think however, looking at our group that we can sneak into the runners-up spot as Turkey and Ukraine are no better than us while Moldova and Andorra should be the whipping boys of the group.

Not an easy group that.

Yeah, it could've been easier. The Germans are obviously massive favourites and Ukraine and Turkey are no pushovers either

Tough luck against PSG in the Champions League, but at least you cleaned up domestically

Interesting change of direction with N.Ireland. I'm surprised expectations aren't higher considering recent performances.

Thanks AK. Yeah, domestic dominance came quicker than I was expecting at Celtic and I didn't want this save to go down the 'win everything domestically' route...not yet anyway :). International management was always an aim during this save and when the N. Ireland job came up, especially with their current crop of players, it's something which made sense. As you say, I'm surprised expectations aren't higher either after their Euro's run but at least there's no real pressure on me :)

Northern Ireland - August 2028/29

09.08.28 - Friendly - Northern Ireland v New Zealand : 2-1 : My first game as Northern Ireland manager saw us welcome international minnows New Zealand who sit 120th in the world rankings to Windsor Park in an international friendly. With nothing riding on the result it was a perfect opportunity for me to have a proper look at what players I have at my disposal. I could’ve fielded a weak side but I wanted to see how our best players faired in my opening game playing under my style of football. It didn’t look too good at half time as we were trailing 1-0 despite dominating the game. A few words and changes at half time though seemed to shake the players up a bit as Glenn Donnelly hit a 4 minute brace to turn the game on its head and give us an unconvincing 2-1 win at full time. Not a great debut game for me but we got the win in the end.

Northern Ireland - September 2028/29

01.09.28 - World Cup Qualifiers Group 4 - Northern Ireland v Germany : 2-2 : Not the game I would’ve picked to kick off our World Cup qualifying campaign but the draw had been made and we had to get on with it. Before kickoff the Germans were red hot favourites to win both the game and the group but after 44 minutes we looked to be breaking many a football coupon thanks to Glenn Donnelly’s 1st minute strike and captain Matt McKay’s strike a minute before the interval. With Germany dominating the 1st half yet finding themselves 2-1 down, they were obviously going to come at us in the 2nd half and I prepared the players for that. That’s exactly what they did but they just couldn’t find a way past our defence…until 6 minutes from time when Denis Reule hit a screamer from 35 yards to break Northern Irish hearts. It was disappointing to have the win snatched from us so late in the game but without a doubt, I’d of taken a point before kickoff so we can be happy with the final result.

05.09.28 - World Cup Qualifiers Group 4 - Turkey v Northern Ireland : 0-0 : I think we’ll be fighting it out with Turkey for the runners-up spot in the group so this was a huge game for us, probably even more so than the game against Germany. A point from Ataturk Olympic is something I’d of snatched your hand off for before kickoff and that’s what we managed to get after successfully shutting out the Turks to frustrate them by keeping them at bay to take a 0-0 draw.

World Cup Qualifiers Group 4 : 2 points from 2 games and sitting 5th in the group usually isn’t looked upon as great but considering those 2 points came from Germany and away at Turkey, it has to been seen as a couple of fantastic results. With Germany also drawing with Ukraine, it looks as if this group won’t be the foregone conclusion that many are predicting as Ukraine look as if they fancy their chances too.

Northern Ireland - October 2028/29

06.10.28 - World Cup Qualifiers Group 4 - Moldova v Northern Ireland : 0-2 : Away at Moldova is really a game we should be winning if we have any sort of aspirations of qualifying so I was pleased with the professional approach that we treated this game with as goals from Gareth Patterson and another from captain Matt McKay gave us a fairly comfortable 3 points :).

10.10.28 - World Cup Qualifiers Group 4 - Northern Ireland v Ukraine : 3-1 : Another massive game for us as the Ukraine made the journey to Windsor Park in what could turn out to be a group deciding game at the end of qualification. Both teams looked fairly evenly matched as the away side obviously came for more than a point. After 22 minutes though we raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to Glenn Donnelly and Gareth Patterson but that lead was short lived as the Ukrainians pulled a goal back just before half time to leave the game on a knife edge. Both teams went at it in the 2nd half with good chances for either side, but thankfully it was us who managed to grab the all important next goal as our centre half Richard McGarvey hit the winner with his 1st international goal on his 26th cap :).

World Cup Qualifiers Group 4 : Maximum points from our 2 qualifying games this month leaves us sitting 2nd in the group but probably more surprising than that is Turkey topping the group and Germany lying in 3rd after drawing 3 of their 4 games. Obviously there’s still a long way to go but picking up 8 points from 4 games is a great foundation for us to build on and with Andorra up next for us (excluding friendly games) we’ll hopefully be able to boost our goal difference :).

Northern Ireland - November 2028/29

NIreland_zpsa5e4fd71.png

08.11.28 - Friendly - Northern Ireland v South Africa : 2-2 : Our World Cup qualifying campaign takes a back seat now until March next year so it’s important that we keep the squad together and spirits high whilst also making sure that our players are getting international experience until our next competitive game. So our 1st friendly pitted us against South Africa who made the journey to Windsor Park on a damp November night. We got off to a great start as Richard McGarvey put us into the lead with his 2nd international goal in as many games but just 9 minutes later South Africa drew level thanks to Tseliso Ranchobe. We took the lead again 5 minutes after the restart through Gareth Patterson but once again South Africa drew level this time through Mduduzi Motale 10 minutes from time to leave both sides having to settle for the draw.

The November World Rankings were also announced which sees us rise to 29th in the world :).

Good start to qualifying.

Thanks delta :). I couldn't of asked for a better start especially considering that we managed to take a point from both the Germans and the Turks! That 2nd spot is most definitely within reach and with Andorra up next for us and Turkey away at Germany, we could well find ourselves topping the group at the halfway stage of qualifying :). Obviously still a long way to go yet though.

I would have thought Germany are bound to improve, so looks likely to be a close qualifying group.
Great start to the qualifiers.

Thanks fellas . Yep I'm expecting the Germans to pick up too as they're just too strong to continue to under perform. Hopefully though, Turkey drop off :)

30.01.29 - Friendly - Iceland v Northern Ireland : 1-3 : With still no World Cup qualifying game we made the trip to Iceland in another friendly for us which saw us totally dominate the home side as we comfortably beat Iceland 3-1 thanks to goals from Glenn Donnelly, Andy Cooley and Leslie Munn.

The World Rankings were announced again which saw us rise one place to 28th in the world :).

Northern Ireland - March 2028/29

NIreland_zpsa5e4fd71.png

20.03.29 - World Cup Qualifiers Group 4 - Andorra v Northern Ireland : 0-3 : We were back in World Cup qualifying action again after a 4 month break from competitive international football as we made the journey to the whipping boys of the group, Andorra. While we won the game 3-0 I do think we should’ve dominated and won the game more than we did in the end. Still, the most important thing was that we got the 3 points and maintained our push for qualification from the group.

World Cup Qualifiers Group 4 : Our win against bottom of the group Andorra coupled with Germany beating Turkey 3-0 means that we go top of the group at the halfway stage of qualifying :). If we can have a repeat of our first 5 games in our last 5 games then we should be in the mix for a qualification spot. With Ukraine winning as well though they’re keeping the pressure on us all as the group continues to be a 4 horse race.
