2023/4 - Sunderland (Championship)

It's a move to the North East...

Board: Win promotion

Media: 2nd

Bookies: 10-1

Season tickets: 27,987 (down 88)

We start well, our first defeat coming at West Ham in the eighth match. We lie 6th.

Halfway and we sit 2nd. 5 points seperate leaders Watford from 7th place West Ham. Injuries hit and we slip back.

Things improve again in January, as this suggests...

playerofmonth_edited.jpg

A dozen games to go and West Ham have slipped back. Watford and Huddersfield lead on 67, Leicester and ourselves 66, Stoke 63 and Reading 61.

A penultimate game draw at Cardiff denies us a promotion decider at home to Huddersfield. We then lose to West Ham in the playoff semi finals and the season ends in deflation.

You would think that a club that was taken over a year ago and averages nearly 40,000 fans per match would make some money, especially considering I was below my wage budget of £300,000 per week all season.

Well, apparently not...

embargo.jpg

injection.jpg

The new season comes round, and the board reduce the wage budget to a measly £56,000 per week.

The lowest teams to make the Football League are...

Eastwood Town, who survived for three seasons before getting successive relegations to Conference North.

Alfreton Town who won the Conference and League Two in consecutive seasons and finished 10th in their debut in League One. They do have a tycoon as chairman though.

Two non league teams have made the Championship, but both are now back in League One. They are Oxford United and Rushden & Diamonds.

Thanks Psycho.

Aaron, Soham's last takeover was a consortium in October of the current season. They are only 10th in the league though.

Had a scare. My computer managed to get the Windows XP Security 2010 virus and so had to be reformatted tonight. Fortunately I managed to back up my save before. Should return to playing it tomorrow.

At the end of my last session on Monday, this worrying piece of news came in...

Windows XP? Come over to 7 - it's far more stable than Vista, although sometimes you get asked to "run as administrator" - especially if you play Star Trek Online - which I don't! Never have! Ever! Ok, maybe a little....

But currently bringing AVRO JFC up the league - will post my endeavours when I've stopped shooting Klingons and the Taleban...

2024/5 - Sunderland (Championship)

It's ironic...

Board: Win Championship

Media: 1st

Bookies: 12-1

Season tickets: 28,133 (up 146)

Euro ranking: 122 (up 5)

A new kit sponsorship deal is signed for 4 years, for a lower value of £688,000 per season. The board also reduce the wage budget from £244,000 to £56,000 per week. Marvellous...

Early season is a bit of a struggle and we sit mid table. Things only improve slightly and we enter the top half. The dressing room then goes and Palanca requests a transfer.

We struggle for confidence and form, highlighted by a defeat at relegation threatened Doncaster. Even so, we are only just below the playoffs.

Then a twist of fate like a dagger through the heart. We go to Sixfields and lose 3-1 to Northampton and I get sacked.

sorry i thought he was in the prem :(

Still a bit harsh though. Unless he was unable to turn the finances around. Maybe SI need to define more who is responsable as you can't be blamed for debt that was already there

I do feel very hard done by. The wage budget was cut by nearly £200,000 yet I was expected to win the Championship. I lost two first team players in the Summer - one sold by the board and one out of contract because I was unable to offer him another. I didn't have any money available to replace them, so had to use their understudies. I thought I was doing well all things considered.

Sunderland look completely screwed this coming season though. Players are unhappy and not renewing their contracts. They were left with just 15 senior players, but have mysteriously been able to sign 5 more now I have left. They still have no money. Mind you, at least they aren't Hull, who will start with a ten points deduction.

Season end/close Season Job Hunt

A number of jobs became available. The two that interested me most were Kilmarnock, relegated to the Second Division and Evian, a Ligue Deux club with a recent tycoon takeover.

Neither wanted me.

Three clubs that did want me were...

Barnet who were relegated to the Conference Premier.

Drogheda United, who were 9th after 11 games in the First Divison.

Lincoln City, who finished mid table in League Two last season. This was the only job that became available at the change of season update.

I was tempted by Drogheda, but ended up choosing Lincoln City. How I now wish I stayed at Northampton Town!

Just caught up with this. Interesting read so far. Hopefully you'll get your career back on track at Lincoln, after that unjust sacking.

Slow progress... but that is due to a major visit at work tomorrow which has taken up a lot of time this week preparing.
