CMeds
My life took a turn for the worse some months back when my laptop's motherboard jacked in. I'd only had the computer a year, and up until it's passing it had been running great. I'm a simple man with simple needs... Football Manager and the internet are my only essentials on a computer, everything else is just an unnecessary distraction. I'm now in a financial position to make a new purchase but for the purposes of FM, what are the most important specs I need to look for?? I know ram is important, so I'm looking for 2gb of that, but what else does one need? Advance thanks in anticipation of your help.
SWaRFeGa
She said you can do anything you want. 3GB would be better. Vista is advised too. Basically if you buying a brand new machine - it's good enough. Simple as that.
happy slappy
Football Manager and the internet are my only essentials on a computer, everything else is just an unnecessary Does this include porn or not? But yeah, if you were to buy FM09 as well then I would most probably go with 3GB, I am also considering buying a new laptop seeing as my current one only has 1GB and is a few years old, so an upgrade is needed. CMeds
Thanks for the advice guys, will 3gb make a lot of difference then? Also- sounds silly again I know- but there is a decent looking sony laptop at currys for 500 at the moment and being a big brand name provides me with a bit of reassurance, but does the manufacturer effect performance? Cheers ps, re: the use of the internet, I am unwilling to answer such a question... however, I am currently without a girlfriend, so I'd be lying if I said my desperation to get a laptop is 100% down to FM. Maybe just 98%!

Maybe just 98%! 3GB should make a remarkable difference. The manufacturer of a laptop obviously matters, though it's less the brand on the surface than the components used. Sony can be trusted and is nicely designed. However, you can get the same performance at a lower price (or more at the same price) from the likes of Dell, Asus and so on. They are perfectly trustable too.

Neji
Dual core at 1.83 will be better than one core at 2.6. Maybe not right now but FM09 should be optimised for dual cores so it would work better. Having said that, I'd look for a bit more than 1.8. Id look for something with 2.2 dual core and 2gb of ram should be fine but obviously 3gb will be better. Stomalomalus
Its not just the specs that count though, its the way its put together. There was a recent survey thingy that concluded that computers bought from a local store and put together by them are better quality and value for money than ones from a big store or online. Just one recommendation, NEVER buy from Simply computers! 5years of graphics errors is all ive had! I would be looking for something over 2GHz personally
CMeds
As much as I genuinely appreciate all your comments and suggestions... I'm more confused now than when ex BB contestant Nadia turned strangely hot. Not really hot, but doable at least, if she was real of course. I mean she is real... obviously, but a real woman. And I guess biologically she has all the bits a woman should now with no extras, but still... Anyhow, I digress, forgive my continued bothering, but this is my future FM enjoyment at stake, is this perhaps a better offer?... Sony Dual Core (you know the one I mentioned earlier) 2gb ram 1.86ghz 533mhz 1mb cache 200gb hard drive it's a ton cheaper than the dell one, with 0.03 extra on the processor (x2 of course, I've learnt that much!) but less on cache (what the hell is that) but also less on cash (where did that go?). I know essentially I already mentioned the cash decrease, but I saw the opportunity for a cheap joke based on phonetics and I took it. Sue me. x

I have 4GB in my laptop (thats currently broke ) - and only have it because of video editing and data collection purposes. If I didn't do those two things on it, 4GB would be a complete waste. Kazza
Hi My local PC experts where I bought my PC from so not laptop reckons that anymore than 2gb ram is a waste re gaming at the moment..so spend extra money on better CPU and good graphic card.. If laptops can utilise more than 2gb ram then apologies, otherwisw stick to 2.
Neji
If laptops can utilise more than 2gb ram then apologies, otherwisw stick to 2. They can but probably wont. 3GB is overkill really atm if your going to be playing FM and not much else.

Guest roberto922
Congrats CMeds on the purchase of probably the best laptop on the market for under £1000, just out of interest is it the same as mine? Intel Core 2 duo processor T8100 2.1ghz 3gb SDRam 250GB Hard drive 15.4'' Screen.
DS
There are many different Sony Vaio models I believe and all are a bit of a rip off TBH because Sony is a well known brand they get away with charging higher amounts for the same parts in it. Thats how they sort of trick people who dont know about computers. But for some people the design is more important then the performance and it does tend to have a nice design and look. Chris Ritchie
FM runs OK on mine with a fairly weak Dual Core and 2GB of RAM. That said, I'd definitely recommend paying a bit more money and getting something faster.
CMeds
He's doing a pretty decent job so far, the little fella, am running 18 leagues as well. Where I've had such a long spell with out it, I got greedy and managed 5 teams at once (one in oz, usa, english prem, german 1st and bsp). Not a good idea! Still runs smoothly enough, but you just can't get as involved as you need to be. Added to which it huas taken donkeys years to get through the first season! Have quit the oz and the US teams now.
