We actually never dropped out of the top 3 at any point in the season. We nearly gifted Hamburg a way back into winning the title, but finished strong :)

Not any 'amazing' seasons, but lots of players who performed well as a part in a well oiled gegenpressing machine :)

Flum was the fans favourite and rightly so. Knoll was my personal favourite, always on top in training and becoming a great team leader. Buchtmann was the surprise of the season given that I wasn't expecting him to be a regular starter. I've included our top scorer Diamantakos whose 16 league goals proved crucial.

2nd top scorers and 3rd best defence in the league, beating the league's points record in the process. The Hamburg rivalry will continue in the Bundesliga next season, bring it on!Ā :onmehead:

Bundesliga

No real surprises at the top of the league with Bayern picking up another title, Dortmund finishing well behind in 2nd place and the franchise in 3rd. However I was surprised to see Werder Bremen get relegation. Although, they have been plodding around in lower-midtable now for several seasons so some could say it was coming!

We've made a number of improvements to our JC and YR over the season so it's looking like a decent setup now. We're also looking to improve our training and youth facilities and we're also taking data analysis seriously with over Ā£1m in upgrades to it over 4 installments.

Finances

65fe623bc98c5bc5f220f532ec4e68c1.png

Pretty solid finances and as long as we don't over-indulge in the Bundesliga we should slowly improve finance wise given the prize money available.

Wow the two Milan clubs took over Europe

Yeah bit of a surprise that! Also Hoffenheim and Frankfurt doing excellent in Europa despite struggling in the league.

Cheers, it's going to be tough competing with some of the other side's budgets!

2019/20 Bundesliga First Update

Transfers

A few good sales; Dudl made us a nice bit of cash after snapping him up on a fee, while Sobota was never going to cut in the the Bundesliga so I was glad to move him on. I had no intention of selling Grosskreutz, but he wanted to leave and the above statement pretty much sums up how it's being run here. If you don't want to be here, you can go. Here's a look at our newbies:

805efda5362fd0468b12a64d44813fb1.png

Iorfa struggled to maintain a place in the Wolves side and was released. He will be our first choice right back with KG gone and he can cover centre back.

4493fb19f27ea73bdecb0b77f65946eb.png

Meffert is a good young hard-working German who will add compeition in an aging centre midfield of Flum and Nehrig.

8a3ee58910b896af6f51483f87f9f157.png

'Pacy hitman' is exactly why we've brought Osawe in. Adds a new dimension to our front-line and can also play out wide.

546af2dd4306fe217ace6d16737b637c.png

Skjelbred brings a wealth of Bundesliga experience to the team, crucial in what could be a tough season for us.

34d58dcecd4d02e830fbe4fe9bafa95e.png

Baballa was a bit of a liability with red cards in the 2nd tier, let alone against Bundesliga quality wingers! Schlupp comes in on loan and is a good fit for a CWB.

8c36a403e3083410ff230ad52e8159ff.png

Neumann was signed as a replacement for Grosskreutz, though he will be 2nd choice behind Iorfa.

9a38b194064491fd137b449224dccde4.png

Our big name signing!! Kruse made his name at St Pauli and he's one for the fans to get excited about. He's lost a bit of pace, but will be a great addition in attacking midfield as both a battler and goalscorer.

A decent pre-season and also a great start in the Bundesliga with a home win and away draw.

Some absolute brilliant signings there. I personally think Skjelbred could be a very underrated piece of business from yourself - his experience at this level could serve a real benefit at times this campaign. Max Kruse is a very impressive signing too!Ā

Survival is very much the aim, I guess? :pĀ

Yeah I'm happy with the signings, particularly as I didn't have much of a budget to work with. Skjelbred hasn't worked his way ahead of captain Nehrig yet but he's going to be an asset to the squad that's for sure and Kruse scored on his debut :). Yes survival the aim, anything else is a bonus!

It a strange alternative universe, we go into the Hamburg Derby at the top of the table! Hamburg are unbeaten after two 0-0 draws and a 93rd minute winner. They, clearly, will be difficult to break down. Despite spending Ā£180m on players Bayern are struggling so farĀ

2019 Christmas Update

I think it's safe to say that St Pauli fans will be waking up happy on Christmas Day 2019!

Results

ff1aea2cdfe226f8660f9a303e7305d4.png

A fantastic start to the season going unbeaten in our opening 6 games. We hit a bit of rough form in October but an injury time time winner against Darmstadt set us on another 6 game unbeaten run including (yet another) injury time equaliser at Dortmund and a late win away to Bayern! Wolfsburg crushed us, more on them later, but we finished on a high note with a victory in Frankfurt - Birgit's birthplace.

League Table

42c4f3f884b7f4fc192a1d0a4fadeffc.png

St Pauli fans will be pinching themselves! In a champions league spot and ahead of Dortmund and Bayern, as well as bragging rights by being ahead of Hamburg! Anything could happen in the new year though, and we've still got to focus on ensuring we don't get dragged down the table. Wolfsburg, under the guidance of Peter Bosz, have been a revelation this season with only RBL having any chance of catching them providing they don't have a meltdown.

Sahin has been our key chance creator and our star of the season so far proving he's got the ability to step up to top flight football.

68f138ea3d17d8dab2d70bba8ec52409.png

Schlupp has been a constant force of pace and energy down our left hand side.

573c81abb66d38399849343119351efa.png

Every team needs a goalscorer and that's exactly what Dimitris brings as well as a being a vital battler from the front.

Previous Bundesliga Seasons

This is our record in the Bundesliga in previous seasons. We've already beaten the points tally from the past 3 attemptsĀ . Anything from 9th place upwards would be a best ever finish for the club.

January - March 2020 Update

Transfers

6c93aa4382d823e953e78ecc4f8a9665.png

Sorcan comes in as our first choice keeper after rave reviews from our scouts when they visited our feeder club Gorica. Tillman is a young, hungry attacking midfielder who adds depth, while Niasse add experience, work rate and physically to our front line. AKpoguma joins as a pacey BPD; the ideal partner for Uduokhai and we can sign him permanently for Ā£2m. Brasanac is another gem found by our scouts. He's a true box-to-box midfielder and is a bargain at Ā£600k after being transfer-listed at Betis. Moaners Veerman and Osawe were shipped out on loan, while Nehrig and Flum have proved that they're a bit too past it to cut it in the Bundesliga and were moved on.

Incredible going, how's Uduokhai handled the step up? I've got him shortlisted on a network game save I have with my housemates and hoping he comes up in January as he did for you season one.

Cheers! Yes he's done well, definitely Bundesliga quality. He's just finished the season with a bang on 7.00 rating which is pretty impressive. Here he is:

Knirschzeit!!! (Crunch Time)

7fa4401c1f1673b5e7860b79233f4ec6.png

A fantastic result against Dortmund after the RBL goalless draw kept the dream alive, however Freiburg were the unlikely team to stump our 13 game (11 win) unbeaten run. Bayern sought revenge in a sound 3-0 loss vs the heavyweights making up for us embarrassing them in Munich. Thankfully we didn't slump to the end of the season, picking up a win against relegation battlers Hannover and finishing off with a win against high-flying Wolfsburg. So, where did it leave us in the table?

54ac7a8b10396ae8ba350aad8756ed8a.png

Well, Wolfsburg had already won the league before we faced them, but that victory against them was crucial as it meant we climbed above Leipzig and stated ahead of Bayern and Dortmund to finish in 2nd place!

Me too! It just came together so well, especially the run in the new year. Dealing with League and European football will be a real challenge for us. In the last two seasons we've gone out in the 2nd round of the cup, meaning we only had 36 games in total each season allowing us to keep our team fit, bar injuries.

Christmas 2020

Transfers In

a474940f10fc5a49424f1314f43b7db9.png

7 signings, although only 5 of them new to the team as Akpoguma and Schlupp were with us on loan last season.

de9a3d38679f107a0ff5767626af5d1a.png

Another Nigerian, Umar was a freebieĀ is an excellent squad player with pace to burn.

0ae2e3940d838fd5f0109ac546c25d42.png

My favourite signing and a complete bargain. The Pressing Forward role was made for Yussuf; what he lacks in technical prowess he makes up for with dynamic force!

1b6cca2428476be74b78f6705e23ba0b.png

Another bargain signing from the Franchise, Kevin was on loan last season and did well at the heart of a strong defence in the last few months. Forming a good partnership with Udoukhai.

cb8918608957552ac358d3f044d8fb76.png

A top performer in the 2nd tier who deserves a chance in the top division. Wittek is a good all rounder and grafter, though isn't as pacey as I'd like.

6efc924a461aeefa926805b400367ad4.png

Another experienced freebie to add depth to our squad in light of the extra games we'll be playing.

49a5f7b80f73571546f89a38fd933cb7.png

Hojbjerg comes in on loan to add a bit of quality and creativity to our midfield whilst still being able to contributing to our high pressing style.

cb6def6ea2833f21283fc20995419425.png

We didn't have the budget for him but the board agreed he was an important signing and went all out to get him for me. Jeffrey was our 3rd best player last season and I full expect similar levels of performance this year.

Transfers Out

bced26613655b0f30ed1f1afb1138015.png

Miyaichi is just too injury prone for us and therefore a bit of a liability so I agreed to let him go back to Japan. I cashed in on Daehli; he's got quality but lacked the enthusiasm or pace to be an effective part of the squad. Niasse was moaning already so I got rid, albeit at a small loss, and Osawe, Buballa and Neudecker were all going to struggle to get games so I moved them out on loan.

Tactics

401d0b646c789aaa416db3a9eee7e71b.png

A slight switch in our main system as we move from 4-2-3-1, where I found the AM ineffectual in big games, to a 4-3-3.

DFB-Pokal

da71f83ef478962452bae5398f66c1f0.png

Disappointment in the cup as we go out in the 2nd round for the 3rd year running, this time on penalties.

Bundesliga

5a8e4ea13f79ebeba4ef5d34052f8e72.png

This form is just insane, especially our defence! Gobsmacked to be honest.

0c20939e6d328c232c0cbea784a06417.png

Flying high at the top while Bayern struggle yet again and last season's champions Wolfsburg are down in midtable and already sacked their manager!

Champions League

4e01fb042a47327ce1b0e309893270cd.png

A tough start with two losses made it look like we weren't cut out for CL football, but a victory at the Giuseppe Meazza and an incredible 6-2 thumping of 2019 CL winners Inter set us on the way to a successful first campaign. We could have finished top of the group by beating Lyon, but a 0-0 draw secured us 2nd spot instead.

acf0dc20189cfa9d78b079c7170c4256.png

This is a good draw. Porto are a good side, but not at the same level as some of the other sides we could have been drawn against.

Player Stats

cc7afd52475ecba5caebc47a4cc8ddc2.png

Our defence have been class and Poulsen has been scoring and creating. The only positions that seem to be struggling a bit are our wide players, especially since Cenk Sahin broke his ankle. The board agreed to sign Leonardo Bittencourt for me from Lyon, so hopefully he will add what we need.

I was apprehensive about releasing him as my assistant originally, but I felt he wasn't quite the right fit as my no 2. He's now back working with the youngsters because he just loves the club. I've paid him very well for it too!

This is absolute fantastic reading for St Pauli fans, simply incredible to see how well you have progressed with them! Yussuf Poulsen is an absolute steal for that price and could go down as one of the best pieces of business made in this save, honestly. Keep it up! :DĀ

Really starting to establish yourself now Poulsen has been absolutely dynamite, has his finishing stat come on any? Even at 11 I'd feel much more comfortable with him leading the line, because like you say he makes up for it physically and mentally. Is he forcing a lot of mistakes among backlines?

I never thought it would be like this when I started it, was expecting an eternal struggle which would have been more in-keeping with St Pauli. But it's a nice little alternate UniverseĀ :D. Poulsen is always a player on my radar and I've paid around Ā£15m on FM18 for him before so Ā£2m is ludicrous...

He's just class. Forces errors, bullies defenders, brings the wide players into the game. HeĀ misses a lot of 1v1s but most of his goals are aerial or tap ins. A little green arrow has come up for finishing and composure so it must have gone up a little, but not enough to go up an attribute yet.

The Prinz of fraudulence is running away with it without even a funky formation or overpowered newgen superstars!Ā

I do love a German Nigerian defender though (have managed them both for Nigeria and Akpoguma in the Bundesliga). Having all that pace to burn makes figuring out to how to deal with opposition countersĀ so much less painful.
