gogogo golem
Great to see more people taking this up. I've had problems with wages, too, in fact it's renewal time for me. Good work with the philosophies vikeologist. Tactics wise, I've had great success with a DLF -S, AM-A and two W-A with a deep lying playmaker in central midfield. brugi82
Damn you all, I was going to wait to begin this ! Starting Facilities Legacy Transfers Weymouth Background Again this year I played around a bit with signing players but I just can't get into that, players I sign aren't my guys. Wasn't really sure where to go, England didn't do it for me last year but maybe this year it will, so I'm Hitchin' a ride. Couple of reasons to choose them: green and gold for the Aussie connection, and Fairly Basic youth recruitment is solid at this level, so hopefully I'll get some decent prospects in. Predicted to come absolute bottom, but I think there's enough about the squad to stay up. Finances will be an issue, will need youth to push for spots fairly quickly as I'm guessing we'll see a cut in wage budget next year, so keeping all the current squad beyond the season will be tough ... even keeping them all this season may not be possible, so many have contracts that need renewing for the season. Facilities | Manager Good luck to you both I hope that you will repeat careers which you had in Portugal and Belgium. p.s. I was planning to start this challenge as soon as the beta comes out. I decided which team will I take - Kingstonian FC. I learned about their history, prepared everything (logo...) and when beta came out, they are not in the game... Beta DB is incomplete and I will have to wait till 31.10. to start this properly...
brugi82
Yep, I've already flagged it up in general feedback forum the sillyness of wages...It is critical in this challenge. I noticed that too. Every player wants to be key player with 2-3 times bigger wage than he is getting on his current contract... Makes this challenge extremely difficult. p.s. I added feedback too... If we complain enough, maybe they will fix it

XaW
After the new patch I'm joining this one. Gonna be fun to try to get my youth to win. Did well in FM13 in Germany, but never finished. Going for Portugal this time. Holidaying now. The reset date is 30th june btw. So for anyone playing in Portugal, save on the 29th! I'm the new manager of AD Sanjoanense. They seem to have a good youth setup, so I hope for some great youngsters.
Braumiller
Welcome onboard XaW! Just spent my lunch hour going through my first week in game, and that was a lot of contracts to argue back and forth over! Still, came in around 500 under wage budget and only lost one player I wanted to keep (was a DC, which I am a little light on, but his PPMs scared me and he was being an a$$ over his wages! lol). I let another 3 walk. All told I have a total of 27 players, 3 I am actively shopping around as they do not fit / are garbage. Oddly fancy my chances of a mid-table finish as a couple of key roles in my tactic have a decent guy ready to drop in. Although after contemplating telling the board that in our expectations meeting, I decided the extra 600p/w in the wage budget wasn't worth it. Battle against relegation it is! And just to make it a little interesting, two of my starting back four are a spritely 37 years old each..... And they must have seen me and my crazy youth-only philosophy coming, as one of the youth intake from the holiday year is quite handy
XaW
Just a question for this. There's a player with a future transfer to the club. Am I allowed to use him, or should I get rid of him as fast as possible?

Am I allowed to use him, or should I get rid of him as fast as possible? Your fine to play him, everything was signed before your arrival. Occassionally you get the bad end of this deal as well and one of your guys is already signed for another club and you lose him. I have one of each at the start of my Weymouth challenge this time around. (The one I am receiving is one of my 37 yr old starting defenders!) I only have 1 gk in my squad so I really hope he doesn't get injured. Only got 5 defenders as well. All of my players are on amateur contracts as well so my first task is to get a contract to just about everyone. Don't think I can be picky just yet. gogogo golem
Good luck Brugi, Braumiller and XaW. Six days till first youth intake, excited. It's a nightmare to have a thin defence, my defence wasn't great but its lack lack of depth has been just as damaging. And is anyone else finding set pieces overpowered on this patch, I think a good set piece taker is the best starting gift you can get at this level. Shakes
I re-holidayed until I got a save with two GKs just in case ... I thought about going with one, but looked at the guys injury tab and saw 6 over the past year and noped the hell out of there. I think I've kind of sorted the contract mess without losing too many players (looks like one rubbish guy and one I'd like to keep as backup with a few left on non contracts that will hopefully stick) but we're well over budget ... and given the reports that contracts only get worse next year I'm wondering if it's even worth playing this yet. Bugs with the contract system is what turned me off my England save last year, I don't want to ruin it.

Shakes
Aye, I made sure to get all my renewers to sign full length 3 year deals Mine wanted even more money to do that, and after renewing a couple my wage budget was getting tight and the board restricted me to two year deals anyway. Looking at some other clubs that have been promoted they don't seem to be quite so f'ed up in terms of squad structure (mine has 9 key and 11 first team to start with), so maybe I should just holiday again and see if I get a more reasonable squad, not like I've even played any matches yet. In any case I raised it as an issue http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/366744-We-re-all-key-players-around-here?p=9118186 ... if anyone else has more info to add feel free to go there and chime in. I backed you up. I even tested this myself... Whatever team you pick in North/South, players want totally unrealistic demands... They all want to be key players... I hope that other guys who are playing this challenge in England can share their experience with contracts. If you have the same issue, leave a comment at Shakes bug submit topic. Jintro
Just got my copy of FM2014 and was browsing the Challenge forum to see what was going on. I have alway played heavy signing games, without much eye for tactics or training, and youth development is completely new to me. So let's try to focus on those aspects of the game for once and see if it can rekindle my love for the series (I haven't played much last year). I decided to go to France, and ended up with US Raon US Raon is a club from a small town in the north-east of France (pop ca 6000) without much history. They never went beyond the CFA as far as I can tell, so in any case I'm writing history already even if I have yet to play a game. I'm hoping the lack of history also means a lack of expectations, because it's highly likely I'll crash and burn. Everything about the club is basic, including the youth setup. The first team is decently filled, but a little heavy in defenders. One problem I see is the lack of a young goalkeeper. I have none in my youth team, and the two I have are aged 32 and 43. Let's just hope the slightly less old one keeps playing untill I at least have some youngling lined up. There are 5 regens in my youth squad. There are however two players that look like they could at least be usefull in the future. The first one is Hervé Billong, a 15 year old RB. (YP01b) But the most promising is Kheieddine Bouadellaf,a 14 year old striker. (YP01a) At least I hope they are decent. It's been a long time since I played in France, so I really don't have an idea what a decent player is a this level. And this is the manager who's hoping, against his better judgement, to avoid the drop.
gogogo golem
Where is your youth intake? And what are wage demands for your players after 1 season? Can you resign anyone? My youth intake is further up the thread, post number 114. I can resign most people and although the squad status is insane, I can resign everyone and the wage demands are slightly OTT but nothing riduculously overpowered. My bigger problem is over the top board expectations, top half. Good luck Jintro, that right back lucks pretty handy. You should get someone with half decent potential in time to replace your aging goalies. Also, I've had a junior coaching update: http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/gogogogolem/media/2013-10-24_00018_zpsf9fa3789.jpg.html EDIT: Poo, both my goalies played a reserve match on the same day as my first game of the season. Do you attack when you have outfield player as a keeper and keep opposing team away from your goal, or do you defend and try to prevent shots... I played my counter attacking strategy and lost 5-3, with Danny Crane in net it would have been a 3-1 or 3-2 victory. Fortunately, I wasn't punished for the guy I stuck in net being a set piece taker. EDIT: Won the next game 5-3, that target is going to fail spectacularly. gogogo golem
Just managed to persuade the board to a training facilities upgrade, but it is a little bit larger than I hoped for, it's so big, I'm worried it could hurt the prospects for junior coaching and youth facilities and the wage budget but we can definitely afford it. http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/gogogogolem/media/2013-10-24_00020_zps28202660.jpg.html

janesy20
Season Review League Table: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=188576005 Objectives Survive! - achieved and comfortably at that, with no real threat of relegation. Dortmund II and Stuttgart were poor. From the first five games I was always at least 6 points clear of relegation. However I was unable to win back to back games until the last five games of the season where I won 4/5 so I think the league table is a little bit generous viewing if i consider the full season. However I'm not complaining Secure Important players to long term contracts - achieved A number of player were signed to longer term contracts, although some work needs to be done to reduce the wage budget. Secure Personal Future - achieved Signed new 2year contract. Overall I didn't set too many objectives as I knew survival would be the most important. Now we have survived it is time to consolidate our place in the league. Next year the objectives will be to acheive a similar position and bring through the first of my youth regens. exciting times! Pick of last years intake Can Yayla YP01a - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=188578109 This is the Target Man discussed earlier - I will try to introduce him throughout the course of the coming season once he turns 17. New Youth Intake Three players receiving tags - very central defensive top heavy youth intake, not necessarily a bad thing I just don't want it a common occurrence. Tim Breuer YP02a - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=188579011 Decent heading stats, marking needs improving aswell as mental stats, but good determination. Tekin Kilicarlsan YP02b - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=188579328 similar to Breuer. Dennis Bertram YP02c - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=188579764 Has come through as a centre mid but I think if I can improve his pace he would make a better winger...what do you all think? Congrats mate. That is a very good season (well any season when you don't get sacked is a good season ). Good prospects too. I would train YP02c definately as a winger. Good crossing and dribbling. @janesy Good luck mate! @gogogo golem Nice upgrade. Going to help your players reaching their potential.

Currently have: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=188 (major LOLs if that came up with a picture of a Donut as it did on mine, it was unintentional) try this link if so - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=188590417 Provisionally agreed terms with: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=188590585 Pro Change: Better Judging player Potential, Highly adaptable/working with youngsters/motivation/determination, played career in Germany. XaW
I hate matches like this. Aaaaaaaand my only goalkeeper is out injured for 4 weeks. This is gonna be interesting. Hopefully the youth intake is soon Match 1: lost 2-5 at home, 4 errors by acting gk... Match 2: lost 3-2 to the worst team in the league... Edit: YES! He came back quicker than expected! Woohoo! I just released my back up keeper because I have a youngster (who's nowhere near good enough for this league) who can be back up for £1,000 less a week when he is 17 in November (In Germany you cant play til 17years old) Now Rostock have just offerd £80k for my first choice and there are two other clubs interested, so if for whatever reason I can't keep hold of my first choice, I'll have to have a centre half in goal for the first three months of the season

I feel your pain. Two matches were enough for me. Dropped into the relegation zone because of those matches
ri916
For anyone with Goalkeeper troubles make sure you pick an outfield player with the highest goalkeeper rating you can. I usually find it's about 3, what you really want to avoid is putting someone with a GK rating of 1 in goal.
brugi82
Ok quick update from Maidstone United. First Skrill South game. 1-1 away at Eastbourne Borough. 93' min. My striker gets a ball at 16m, turns around and fires a screamer into bottom left corner!!! 2-1 and away victory! Not bad for a start
janesy20
I want to ask a couple of quick questions regarding the rules to the OP and owner of the challenge. The only way I can continue the game is by naming a greyed out substitute keeper on the bench as I cannot continue without at least 4 u23 players in the squad. Is this possible? he will not come on the pitch under any circumstances...if my keeper gets injured an outfield player will replace him. edit: Ahh sorted it, I'm just not allowed to name 7 substitutions so I have 3 U23s +1 space. Also, it says we are allowed to sign staff, but are we allowed to sign staff from other clubs for compensation or are we only allowed to sign free agent staff? thanks. AdamFitz
I've taken over at Fakel Voronezh in Russia. Have to show you all a regen called Alexey Yevseev that's in the squad, and who's interested in him. Have offered him a very nice contract which he has accepted, hope he stays, could build the team around him.
