Duff

Nicely balanced game at half time, MLS should be ahead. Now to see a new formation, some kids, and Obi icon_cool.gif

All-Stars the better side, tbh.

But we were unfit because it's pre-season for us and mid-season for them.

And it was hot.

And to be fair, the grass was a bit long. icon_biggrin.gif

Really poor game, though. Only worth watching to see Ballack, Sheva, and Obi out there.

Oh Woods is one of the Leeds kiddos? I remember reading about Taiwo and Rose, but forgot the name of the other one. Good to hear about Smith, though I'd be surprised if he sees much first team action this season though as he presumably has to get past Obi, Ballack and Lamps if he wants a look in. How were Ballack and Shevchenko? They both looked a bit tired during the World Cup, despite the obvious pre-season fitness levels, are the signs good? How does Ballack play with Frank?

I'll try to recap some stuff

Ballack and Lampard lined up alongside eachother centrally with SWP ahead, but all were given license to float. Lampard was a bit quiet and tired but was pulling strings, Ballack was eager and showed some nice touches, the through ball for Didier's disallowed goal was magic.

Sheva was playing as the withdrawn striker of the two, dropping into midfield and collecting a lot, looking to make an impact from deep. Didn't have much of note to do but looked ready to be a team player and make those around him better, especially SWP. Who wasn't up to much.

Essien played everywhere, DMC first half, then a bit of right back, centre back, and left back. And was awesome in all of the places, as was Geremi, who bombed on all game.

Diarra fouled a lot but was more Makelele like than Ess in DMC and was solid. Obi Mikel played a couple of really nice passes but was caught on the ball a fair bit and seemed to be a bit short on confidence in himself and the team.

Kalou was majestic, was exciting every time he got the ball, made things happen, has feet so quick you can't see what he does, and is bigger than I remembered as well. Drogba was lively and hungry, diving as ever, and stuck his disallowed goal way well. And I covered Smith above.

Anyone else?

"It was a long trip to the USA," said Drogba, whose Chelsea team has visited the U.S. the last three preseasons. "I think it's good because every time we come here, we finish champions."

I wasnt sure who played that ball, but my instinct said Ballack, thanks for confirming. That was indeed one hell of a through ball icon_cool.gif

Chelsea suffer Cole injury scare

Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole could miss the start of the Premiership season after suffering a knee injury during the 1-0 defeat by MLS All-Stars.

Cole had been on the pitch in Chicago for just five minutes before leaving the action clutching his right knee.

"Everybody is worried because I think it's something to do with his knee ligaments," said boss Jose Mourinho.

"We will have to wait until we go back to London to see the specialist but he looks really injured."

"Bristol Rovers chairman Geoff Dunsford has accused Chelsea of illegally approaching one of his club's young players."

bandwagon ahoy, you got your money at a tribunal for him last summer, there was no foul play involved mate, unlucky.

these people are worse for football than chelsea

I think after last night the team for the opening league game has picked itself now, or at least, the front six.

Maka

Essien

Ballack

Lampard

Drogba

Shevchenko

Cole's injury leaves us with two wingers in Robben and Kalou but one's got a knock and is perma disinterested and the other is new and won't start.

I have NO idea what the defence will be except Cech and JT play. Then pick three from Ferreira, Geremi, Carvalho, Gallas, Bridge, and Cole...

Robben's injured (I'm assuming he's the 'perma-disinterested' one)? For how long?

Robben got a kick on the ankle in training in LA, he'll be OK but seemed a bit off last night.

Diamond with Maka at the base and everyone else floating, it'll be like that a lot this season. JM's always wanted to work to the idea of a tactical shape that can change at will during games and have players slot into positions as and when they need/have to and I think he's working towards that a lot more this season.

I'd say Jose's going to be looking at...

-----------------Cech------------------

Ferreira---Terry---Gallas----Bridge (or Cole)

--------------Makelele-----------------

----Lampard----------Ballack---------

--------------Robben/J Cole-----------

------Shevchenko----Drogba---------

Or go with a 4-3-3 and push the AM up into the front line, for his first choice this season. I'm not sure how he's going to fit Essien and the second choice from Robben/Joe into getting enough action to keep either satisfied.

As for Robben, didn't everyone seem off last night? I didn't see the game, but losing to MLS All-Stars can't be what you'd call a Chelsea team on form. With more fitness, I suspect he'll be OK (though IMO he needs more freedom than Jose's going to give him if he's to flourish, but that's a whole other issue).

Would like to see Diarra get a few games this season, one of the few players to come out of the MLS game with much credit, was fb when he came on breaking everything up and setting moves up, then at left back played very well as well.
