I'm looking for a desktop base unit (remember them?) With plenty of RAM, a nice quick clockspeed, a half decent graphics card and a little bit of future proofing.  Recommendations please?  I want to run plenty of leagues and can probably stretch to around £1000.....although less would be nice.

If you're referring to the old systems where you plonk a monitor on top of them, you don't really see them these days...... at least not with all the things you're looking for.

If you're happy with a full PC case etc, then this is good for the price:

I just found this laptop for around £790 at the current exchange rate which is just a bit more than some i7-1165G7 + Intel Iris XE equipped laptops I was interested in. Also beats PCS setups I looked at pricewise. So basically now I'm just hoping there is nothing I'm missing here, especially as the original price (£935-ish) was not too high.

Can someone more competent than me have a look and check everything is in order here regarding the spec please?

https://www.apollo.pl/produkt/laptop-msi-gf63-thin-11uc-214xpl-i7-11800h16gb1000gb-pciertx-3050w10,240355.html

I know it's more than enough for FM but suppose it would also let my son play most of fairly recent titles. So if all is fine I'm ready to take the plunge.

One thing I'm not sure, although not a deal breaker I guess, is having just one SSD drive as IIRC it's better to have one smaller for Windows install and one larger for data storage and app installs - please correct me if I'm wrong or if it's not that important after all.

I was initially reserved about the brand since my old MSI laptop had poor battery life but from what I read they seem to have improved in this regard.

The store is legit, I bought a PC from them in the past.

Can you provide actual links to the ones you're looking at please?  Model numbers can be a bit hit and miss with laptops so I want to make sure I'm looking at the correct ones.

it's just a link from the Indonesian market maybe in your country it doesn't exist, is there a £550 budget laptop recommendation from you?

All good - you don't often get the dual SSD setup on laptops, so I wouldn't use that as a reason to put you off.

There weren't any links om your post at all, hence my request.

Going by UK sites, this is the sort of thing I'd look for: https://www.box.co.uk/82KD002LUK-Lenovo-V15-G2-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-512GB-SSD-_3614141.html

It'll run FM.  It likely won't be terribly quick, but for the price it's ok.

Not sure how good the integrated graphics are in these - I'd assume not great so expect to need to turn the 3D settings down.

Hey guys, didnt know where to post this but its about gaming in general inc FM22.

Im looking for a laptop that can run most recent AAA titles, mainly used for gaming but also normal web stuff ( I have another laptop that is running ok but will probably die within 3 years)

8GB RAM, 500+ gb storage SSD (Ill be using an external harddrive to save stuff on long term like games whilst keeping programmes on the SSD), dont know much about graphics cards so something decent for what I want would be useful.

Budget around £600-750, cheers

It won't run all recent AAA titles with settings maxed out, but it should be able to run anything acceptably as long as you're prepared to reduce some settings in the more demanding titles.

Edit: Just seen this is actually out of stock..... I'll take another look.

Edit 2: https://www.box.co.uk/82JU00PDUK-Lenovo-Legion-5-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-512G_4095715.html

If you're looking at AAA games, 16GB RAM is preferable...... however there isn't anything in the budget with 16GB RAM in the stores I've looked at which is actually in stock.  This however has a very capable CPU and GPU.

Anything mid setting for most AAA titles works for me, as long as it's not "framey" and its playable with decent graphics im happy.

I also had a gigabyte laptop not to long ago and had problems with it, tend to stay away from them and Dell, anything else is either new territory or have been decent e.g. HP and Acer.

Appreciate you looking, thanks

Hi

My laptop seems to have died - think one of the kids dropped it :seagull:

HP Pavilion 15-ec1002na AMD Ryzen 5 8GB RAM 512GB SSD Nvidia GTX 1650Ti 15.6" Gaming Laptop

I saw you recommended the below a few posts above but wanted to check if this similar/an upgrade to the Pavillion.

Based on the info I can see, I'm assuming your broken laptop has the Ryzen 5 4600H CPU.

If that's correct, then this laptop you've linked is comparable in terms of the CPU (both score quite closely to each other on https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html?).  The 3050Ti is a definite upgrade on the 1650Ti,

That said, for the same price, I'd go for this as it's an upgrade on both the CPU and the graphics card: https://www.box.co.uk/82JU00PDUK-Lenovo-Legion-5-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-512G_4095715.html

Hey guys, I have two simple questions (hopefully). I have the opportunity to buy this unopened laptop from a buddy for $1200 (but I could probably convince him to do $1100). It’s admittedly a little more than I planned on paying for a new laptop so I guess my questions are:

1) how well will it play FM? It’s not ALL I’m going to use the laptop for, but I’m also not going to use it for anything extravagant. Just web browsing/streaming and an occasional game or two - mostly FM and OOTP Baseball with the rare “normal” game thrown in.
2) what’s it actually worth? I haven’t looked for a laptop in years and am admittedly not up to date on prices for different specs - although I do know Mac’s tend to be more expensive.

I would prefer a Mac tbh so I’m leaning towards getting it, but prior to this offer I was planning on spending a little less on an actual gaming laptop.

Specs are attached
Thanks!

Looking around, that model seems to go from around £900 to £1200 pre-owned in GBP, depending on condition.

There's an example of it on Ebay US for $1,100 here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334418827593?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28

Spec-wise, it's very good.  It'll have no issue with FM.  It is overpriced for the spec, but that is par for the course with a Mac.

Hi All,

Looking for a new Laptop and have narrowed it down to these two - Which do you feel will have better performance? Play in 3D and like to run multiple leagues.

Only really use the laptop for FM and basic tasks.

Out of the two, I'd go for the Surface due to the better CPU.

But, I should ask is there any specific reason you've picked these two out?  They're both vastly overpriced for what they are.  I kinda get it with the Dell as it's a 13 inch model and powerful laptops that size tend to be expensive, but to be honest if you want a 13 inch laptop and are paying that price, you'd actually get better performance going for one of the M1 based Macbook Air models, unless you specifically want a Windows laptop.

Thanks for reply. Ideally would want a Windows laptop. No particular reasons for those two - just two I saw in my price Range  - Do you have any recommendations that are better value for money with similar/better performance - Thanks again.

Will cost you less, you get a top quality CPU and a very strong graphics card alongside it.

Or, if you don't want a dedicated graphics card (which isn't required if FM is the only game you're playing) to make it a bit easier on power consumption: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/lenovo-yoga-slim-7i-pro-14-laptop-intel-core-i7-512-gb-ssd-grey-10225085.html

Would this be acceptable?

Don't really want to be spending more than £550 but noticed this laptop has been reduced in price.

Any idea if it would be able to handle the 3D match engine?

Yes, it'll be absolutely fine.  It will definitely handle the 3D match engine - possibly not at the highest settings, but medium to high settings should be easily achievable with it.

Thank you for the quick & helpful response.

Glad to hear regarding the match engine, so I'm guessing  the CPU will be able to cope with multiple leagues running etc.?

As per the opening post, the speed of processing and how acceptable this is, is entirely subjective so this is not something we comment on - your expectations are likely not the same as mine.

What I will say, is the CPU in this laptop is one of the better laptop processors currently available and it scores well in benchmarks.

Hi I'm looking for a laptop for a buddy that will play an older version of the game as their laptop spectacularly died recently.

Specifically FM18. The laptop will mainly be used for general browsing and the odd game of FM18.

Budget is preferably under £400

So far I've seen this and think it might be ok - https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7351659

any advice would be great.

Hi, I'm looking for a laptop that will play FM21 or FM22 mainly, while also will play Red Alert series, Total War series and Age of Empires series in between.

so far been looking and found these laptops:

Ryzen 5 5500U, Ram 16GB, SSD 512GB

Would these be acceptable for FM22 ? I know these laptops from the link provided basically has the same RAM, CPU, GPU and SSD, but the price is different from each of the laptop brands.

My maximum budget is IDR 10.000.000 equivalent to GBP 544.29 / USD 683.55 / EUR 640 in Indonesian Market, since lower price outside Indonesia tends to be higher when it came to Indonesia because of the customs & shipment. I usually buy something overseas from Aliexpress because of the free shipment, but took a while to get the items.

Thank you

They'd all do the job quite nicely.  I'd choose between the ones with 16GB RAM - really, as the specs are largely the same between them, just take a look at the reviews of each and choose which one you like the look of the most.

For that budget, I'd suggest looking at refurbished.  If you're happy with that, I'd suggest this: https://www.laptopstation.co.uk/laptops/ideapad-3i-14-i3/

Yes, but one is a 15.6" screen and the other is 14".  Otherwise, the spec seems to be the same.

Just to say thank you for your input @kevhamster

Picked up the laptop two weeks ago and didn't have much time to play since but from the started save can already say that the FM flies like a bullet on it. Instead of ages of waiting for processing now a season goes much faster with many more leagues selected than on my old machine with just a few main leagues. I had never been sacked so quickly haha :D

Looking to buy a laptop in the next few days and need some advice. Budget is £300-400 so on the low end, but all I need is for this machine to run FM and then store some basic life admin files.

https://www.box.co.uk/Acer-Aspire-3-AMD-Ryzen-3-8GB-RAM-256GB-_3821917.html

https://www.johnlewis.com/dell-inspiron-15-3515-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-processor-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-15-6-inch-full-hd-carbon-black/p5827701?sku=240346940&srsltid=AWLEVJyV8_xqEUfhc54ZRBOM1xezWMnwmWbKKbf8aUA6o8RBmHXxN8AbyG4

 https://ao.com/product/nxhs5ek00m-acer-aspire-3-a31556-laptop-black-90283-251.aspx

any advice on these, or something better for my price range?

thanks in advance!

This: https://www.box.co.uk/82FE00A1UK-Lenovo-ideaPad-5i-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-_3638069.html

But it is a sale price, so I'd suggest moving quickly for it.

You'll need to switch Windows out of S mode: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/switching-out-of-s-mode-in-windows-4f56d9be-99ec-6983-119f-031bfb28a307

Yes, but if you can afford an extra £20 I'd go for this which has the same CPU but twice the RAM: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/acer-aspire-3-15.6-laptop-intel-core-i3-128-gb-ssd-silver-10226972.html

It's best to go for at least 8GB RAM if you can.

Or, if you have more of a budget let me know what you can afford and I'll see what else is available.

Thanks mate.  Was looking around £400 ideally Currys or Argos

Or: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/hp-pavilion-14ec0537sa-14-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-256-gb-ssd-blue-10229545.html

Both have the same CPU and RAM.  The one at Argos has a larger SSD.

Thanks for this, really helpful as I’m scouting out my options.

What would you recommend out of an intel i5 or Ryzen 5 processor?

There is no easy answer to that, as there are multiple models for both i5 and R5 CPUs, some good and others less good in both cases.

Ok that makes sense. I still have John Lewis vouchers spare from my wedding so was looking at these:

would either of those do the job?

Ok thanks for the help, I do appreciate it. Last try with this one? I think the 13 inch screen on the other one might be a bit small:
