1st fine of the season. Sep 2051

£25k for a 1st fine. Wow!  This is going to be an expensive season.

It wasn't the 6 yellows that cost us, but the 14th minute red card certainly did. We lost. :thdn:

8 yellows and 2 reds isn't going to win us many games. It's certainly going to help us win away to Spurs with a weakened line-up. (Good to see that the back-ups know how to get right stuck-in though). ;)

I know that the message says it's 2 cards. but I promise you it's 5.

That's 5 fines before New Year. I'm pretty sure we have never managed that before. :D :applause:

6 yellows really isn't a problem, but once again an early red card, (21st minute), is obviously hard to overcome. We drew.

We are absolutely smashing the ill-discipline, (and everything and everyone else), and we must surely be getting close to whatever the discipline record for the Premier League.

I've just counted and we have paid £375,000 in fines already this season.

It should actually have been.... £525,000 so we have got off lightly.

Feb & Mar 2052

Apologies. I usually save at the beginning of a month but yesterday I was knackered and saved in the middle of the month and as a result I missed the Feb update.

Premier League. We've been playing well, but we've drawn too many games and it's cost us. Only 2 losses, but also only 2 wins is really frustrating over a 2 month period.

A 21st min red card against Villa definitely cost us 2 points. Despite that, we're 13 points clear of the relegation zone and that's all this season is about. I will admit that when we started winning I had delusions of romping up the table and qualifying for Europe, but I think this modest improvement is more realistic and I'm happy with that.

Apr 2052

Premier League. The draws keep coming but I can't complain as we are still 14 points ahead of the relegation zone. The draw against Arsenal was the weakest team we have fielded in ages. 10 of the starting XI came from the 50, 51 and 52 intakes. They battered us, but we held out for a brilliant 0-0.

Our remaining 3 games are against Fulham, Brighton and Man Utd but we are already safe. :lock: :applause:

I think that in any other season you'd be lucky to survive. But kudos for staying up!

I'm not sure what you are basing that in.

We finished the season on 38 points and played weakened teams in 6 out of the last 7 games.

38 points would have kept us up in 2051, 2050, 2049, 2048, 2047, 2046, 2045, 2044, 2043, 2042, 2041, 2040, in fact every Premier League season since 2034, (18 years ago). We would actually have finished as high as 14th on a couple of occasions.

Season Summary. May 2052.

Premier League. You might notice that Chelsea are no longer one of the big sides and haven't qualified for Europe in any of the last 5 seasons, (and next season will make 6).

FA Cup. Survival in the Premier League was our priority. As we start to develop I will start giving higher priority to Cup competitions..

79f907a5cd50c8b324278112afaa0e92.png

Carabao Cup. This was during a tough period for us where we couldn't buy a win.

Leasing, com Trophy. (U23's). I have high hopes for our U23's in this competition in the future, but it's probably a bit early yet. I think they are capable of better right now, but perhaps not without me taking control of squad selection which I'm not prepared to do right now.

U18 Premier Division Cup. We got to the Final but were surprisingly turned over by Derby

U18 Premier League. We won the league but then weren't strong enough to beat Man Utd, (winnners of the other League), in the Final.

Goal-scoring keepers. 0 goals from 4 penalties is a big thing and I think confirms that (47a) Best (F.Det) * will be sold and I will go with 18 year old (50b) Okoro (NED) (F.Det) next season.

Awards. Whole there wasn't a dominant Player of the Season winner which often happens when a striker scores loads of goals, it's interesting that GK (47a) Best (F.Det) * was voted in 2nd place despite missing 4 out of 4 penalties. I don't thin the fans will be happy when I sell him.

Discipline. We absolutely smashed the previous record, (in fact so did Charlton).

Our 1st choice right back, left winger and right winger are all on the yellow card list, and the only reason our 1st choice left back isn't there is because of so much rotation.

Finances. We've got over £100M in the bank for the 1st time in the save.

Had I picked full strength teams in more games we would have taken more points out of 6 out of the last 7 games where I played young players.

We were so far ahead that it was never in doubt in the end.

Regarding the "19" Youth Recruitment ....above

I'm currently in Prem. on my Leeds save and same issue - I've even tried taking on a Continental Affiliate think that may expand are youth recruitment to 20 - but nothing yet.

Current thinking is either its never going to get there (as the description is same as Junior Coaching which is at 20) or its a reputation thing ?

image.thumb.png.8b07fc5e8c17579546e38ad764ed26c9.png

BTW  - I've no idea how the corporate facilities increases either ...

I've assumed, (possibly incorrectly), that it's linked to reputation. My Irchester reputation is currently National (

If I look at the top clubs in England, and then look at their facilities, this is what I find.

Man City. 20.20.18.19. Worldwide (9,826)
Arsenal.18.18.19.20. Worldwide (8,884)
Wolves. 19.19.18.29. Worldwide (9,822)
Man Utd. 19.19.20.20. Worldwide (9,507)
Liverpool. 19.19.20.20. Worldwide (8.945)
Spurs. 18.18.20.20. Worldwide (8,473)
Brighton. 18.18.17.20. Continental (8,211)
Chelsea. 18.18.20.20. Worldwide (8,379)
Middlesbrough. 16.17.18.20 Continental (7,999)
Bristol City. 16.18.16.16 Continental (8,053)
C.Palace. 18.19.20.20. Worldwide (8.250)
Fulham. 16.16.17.20 Continental (7,372)
Everton. 16.17.18.20 Continental (7,874)
Bournemouth. 16.16.17.17. Continental (8,108)
Aston Villa. 18.18.20.20. Worldwide (8,281)
Leeds. 19.19.19.20. Continental (7,884)
Irchester. 20.19.20.19. National (6,509)
(R)Sheff Utd. 17.17.18.20. National (6,719) Well that's thrown a spanner in the works.  It could be though that their reputation has just been reduced as a result of their relegation?
(R)Charlton. 13.15.15.14. National (6,174)
(R)Burnley. 20.20.26.20. National (6.706) Again, maybe their reputation has just been downgraded as a result of relegation.

What is your Leeds reputation in your game?

[Edit]

Just to clarify, I have looked at the teams at the top of the Championship to see if they would shed any light on things.

(P)West Brom. 16.17.18.20. National (7,230)
(P)Leicester. 16.15.15.19. National (7,076)
Newcastle Utd. 15.17.15.17. National (6.534)
Nottm Forest. 14.16.17.14. National (6.093)
West Ham. 17.18.15.18. National (7,130)

So this actually suggests that it's NOT linked to reputation.

Possibly but I don't think so.

I created an affiliate and then converted the affiliate to incorporate the "Youth benefits" one.

  • 5 year deal.
  • £4.1M a year in wages.
  • £5M bonus.
  • Total cost of the deal = £65.5M

In order to justify spending £40M on 1 player, after just 1 season in the Premier League, I decided that I had to have at least the potential to sell him on and make some money back if we were relegated. 23yo (46a) Gérard (FRA) (F.Pro) * gives us just that opportunity.

I don't think the USA move was good for him and I think his development has suffered as a result. It will be interesting to see how much, (if anything), I can get out of him. I thought he was going to be amazing when I sold him.

The truth is that he's not worth £40M. I'm not going to try and pretend that he is, but when you have so few players in the pool to buy from, he probably is worth £40M to us.

Wonderkid. Aug 2052

(50b) Okoro (NED) (F.Det) is obviously the future, but I don't want to start playing him as 1st choice until I have a buyer at a decent price for (47a) Best (F.Det) *. I will still be playing (50b) Okoro (NED) (F.Det) in Cup games and when I rotate the squad.

(44d) Gough (LIB)(F.Amb)6'2" did well for us when called upon, but he's not Premier League level and there is no point pretending that he is. We are better off playing a poorer player with better PA and improving them. I doubt if letting him leave will cause us to get relegated.

(44i) McDonald (GUY) (F.Pro) * is a player that I really liked in the past, but he was always behind even better players in the left hand side position. I've loaned him out for the last 3 seasons but it's time for him to move on.

(43f) Fabian (JAM) (Pro) * is a GK who 1st choice GK for a couple of seasons, but who has seen much better players come through since then and was 3rd choice at best. It made sense to cash in on him.

6334d8adc82cf7cf07377bcd2c6bc8eb.png

708bcc510dc99278f04405546abd2ca9.png

(51o) NdM (BEL) (Pro) is a really strange one, because he's actually a player that I really like, but for a few reasons has never been given a chance. To start off with he's a small left winger, and anyone paying attention will know that I'm squeezing "big" players in there to try and take advantage of their size via set pieces. In addition to that he was (51o) meaning that he came through ranked 15 of 16 in that intake. I was keeping an eye on the reports, (in the hope that it changed), and although it did change, it didn't change enough to warrant finding a place for him. I've sold him for a modest £200k (rising to £600k), but it will be interesting to look back in future seasons and see did we get this one wrong.

(47h) Munton (Spirit) ML * was a player I was never overly keen on, even when he was playing. He played almost 100 league games for us, but I was always looking for someone better to come in . Now I feel I'm able to cash in on him and move him on. The fact that I got such decent money for him, (and the fact that he's had a decent start at MK Dons in the Championship), suggests that the problem was mine and not his.

(39a) Harri (M.Pro) * was an actual Icon for us. Our all-time record goal-scorer with 252 goals and also all-time record league goal-scorer with 216 league goals. The problem is that he was way off the pace last season and although I wanted to keep him around for mentoring purposes, (and for our rotated squad), he wasn't interested in negotiating a new contract and left on a free. :( He will surely continue scoring goals at a lower level soon, (although I'm astonished that nobody has signed him up yet). I know he only scored 2 Premier League goals last season, but I'm personally delighted that he scored at least 1 because it meant that he scored at every level from Conference National to Premier League. Brilliant stuff. :applause:

Premier League. It's been a tough start to the season but Chelsea were much better than last season and Wolves are just a big big big club now. We should have beaten Leicester and should have hammered West Brom, but they scored and we didn't. Our aim is still to finish 4th bottom again, but this time we need to do so while collecting more points.

Cup games. Well that's 1 Cup win more than we managed last season.

Premier League. We were great against Liverpool and desperately unlucky not to collect all 3 points. Don't bother at looking up the table. All we care about is the 2 below us and Leeds at this stage. We will do better when the fixtures start coming thick and fast anyway, (I hope).

Cup games. I rotated the squad ridiculously, and we lost out on penalties.

I really should have commented on this earlier, but this is a great save. An amazing achievement to get promoted this many times, let alone with the youth only restrictions.

All the details you highlight and pay attention to were a key part in inspiring me to finally update to the newest version, and I dare say a lot of the ways you play the game have influenced most people on this forum.

I'm on my first proper FM20 save after having played FM07 for so long, and on that version players didn't tend to accumulate anywhere near as much fatigue. Copying your rotation policy and playing the second string for the harder games has definitely helped me gain some unexpected results.

Premier League. We grab our 1st and 2nd wins of the season to drag ourselves clear of the relegation. Importantly too, we we also have 2 games in hand. (Remember that we are ground-sharing with MK Dons and our fixtures are sometimes re-scheduled as a result).

Thanks very much for taking the time to comment.

Glad the rotation strategy is working for you. I think that playing weaker players is a strategy often over-looked by FM players.
