[FM20] It was Cambrogi in Wales, but now it's all about aggression in Wales, in England. Bellicosity, pugnacity and belligerence are all excellent words. But Welsh belligerence, in England now.

Domestic games. We've blown it in the league I think. 2 sloppy performances and results in the league while I was concentrating on Europe might cost us. We are 6 points behind TNS and have 2 games to play against them with better goal difference. If we beat them in both games then it's game on.

European games. We got a tough draw. I would have preferred either Dutch side, the Danes, Ukranians and the Turks.

Youth Intake preview. Dec 2042.

Another GK?

We've had loads of decent GK's come through. I'm not saying they were brilliant but we've currently got 5 at the club who don't have a "." after their name so the suggestion is that they are decent. Not as good as the top 2, but decent nevertheless.

Youth Intake Day. Mar 2043

Well the wording doesn't look very promising.

f109de9d7ffda20a6f33ba966303db84.png

Squad by PPA. But this looks more promising, (because I am looking at the PA stars here). 1x 4.5 PA and then a 3.5 and 2x 2.5. It's not good, but it's better than the last few intakes I think.

20841d92633846354335ec88275cf0e0.png

Squad by PA. But when we look at the actual PA, (rather than Perceived PA), things are no longer quite so good. It's not awful either though. (43a) Cheedy (IRL) has a PA of 122 and that's significant for us. I don't know what the PA is of our 2 first choice GK's, (because I only look at this screen with the CA/PA on Youth Days), but I'm pretty sure that the best player we have produced was in the low 130's, (41g) Dumphy, and in terms of who we have produced but then poached, I know that Alun Rogers HG, (who was poached by Leeds), had a PA of 150+ and other than that we haven't produced anyone with a PA in excess of 139. So with that in mind, a PA of 122 is pretty decent and I should be happy. (Were it not for the fact that he was a GK and we have produced 3 or 4 of them in recent years with PA of 100+).

82bff9f2b93a9e31d93be2ffda15eb86.png

Squad by CA. In terms of CA, 83 is the best we have produced I think and it will be interesting to see what sort of player, (GK in this case), look like at 83 CA.

European games. When we were drawn against Leicester I was a bit gutted because I expected it to be very hard to get past them. I thought a win would be unlikely.

We now play Bordeaux in the Quarter Final which would seem to be easier than Man Utd, Napoli & Inter who we have faced at the Quarter Final stage over the previous 3 seasons.

If we get past Bordeaux, (and I would say Bordeaux are an easier opponent than Leicester), then we will face the winners of Porto v Ajax. If we get to the Semi-Final then I would expect Porto to be favourites, but if we face Ajax then we would probably be the favourites for the Semi-Final. Just got to get past Bordeaux first.

Domestic games. We absolutely smashed TNS 6-0 to win the league. When we can field our strongest team we are way too good for the other Welsh clubs, (even TNS), but because of Europe, our best players are often not available to play in a lot of the league games.

European games. We were really good against Bordeaux but surprisingly poor against Porto at home. We should have won by 2-3 goals. :(

Goal-scoring keepers. Pajvot (CRO) has been a bit hit and miss recently. He might have 14 goals and 10 assists this season, but he has missed 8 (EIGHT) penalties. Add to that the 5 goals that Stirling (SCO) has scored and the 2 penalties he has missed and 1 single GK would have scored 29 goals in a season!

Barry Town. Scored penalty.
Swansea Uni. Missed penalty.
Bordeaux. Scored penalty.
Afan Lido. Scored penalty.
Bala. Missed penalty.

Great job getting past Leicester!

Yep. It was a great result. I didn't expect it, but now I'm wondering what's possible from here. Can we sneak past Porto and if we can, can we beat Roma if they beat Liverpool?

May 2043

This is going to be a slightly different month.

Usually, despite the Welsh Cup Final being played in the 1st week in May, I include it within the Apr update because it's just 1 game and there is no point doing a separate update just for 1 game. This season is different.

We have 2 games. At least 2 games.

e1cba025c235e2db435c28d97552ee79.png

Up until now, the biggest part of the save has been our battle with TNS. They started strongly and it took us a long time to catch up and then when we did we have them a bit of a torrid time for a few years until they had a mini-resurgence, and then we fought back and got on to again. The derby games were always big games and took priority over other games, but this season is different. This season we will be resting players in the Cup Final against TNS, (I never thought that I would say that), in order to have our team that plays against Porto, completely rested and in as good a position as possible. I think it likely that we will lose the Welsh Cup Final as a result, but we are on the verge of a European Final.

A Welsh Cup Final is not the big deal that it once was. We've played in each of the last 12 finals, winning 9 of them. Can we win it with a completely rotated squad?

Attention to PPM's. May 2043

When I signed CvL (NED), he had the PPM "knocks ball past opponents" that I didn't like, so I have been trying to get rid of it. I don't mind it as a PPM, but not particularly in the middle of the pitch and certainly not in someone with such limited physical ability. I signed him to play in a sort of Quarterback role where he would sit quite deep and just hit forward passes.

a47e652457d6ac8acc21d86169de6687.png

Now that he has got rid of that PPM, (I will change his name obviously), and I will look at him learning another PPM.

a22ea950feb4aec792500a3df1df4a80.png

My coach suggested that this wasn't a good fit because he had a good decision making attribute, (it's only 12), so I think that the idea is that players with a really poor decision making attribute don't know when to break forward and when to stay back. Seemingly he does so he doesn't need this, but I don't want him caught on the wrong side of the ball so I over-ruled the coach and started him training on it already.

I'm not sure if we are over-reliant on set-pieces, but there is no getting away from the fact that we score a lot of goals from them. We still created chances in this game, but couldn't take advantage.

While this might sound like good news, I'm not so sure. For the last couple of seasons we have been ranked in the 3rd pool of teams in terms of a Champions League Group stage meaning that it was easy to finish 3rd in the Group and qualify for the Euro Cup Group stage. We are likely to be in the 2nd pool now and drawn against teams which mean that we are likely to qualify from the group. I'm not sure that's what we want at all if the goal is to win a European trophy here. It's going to be very hard to win the Champions League here but we are getting there or there abouts in the Euro Cup, (2x Quarter-Finals and a Semi-FInal in 4 years), and I think we are well capable of winning the Euro Conference, (if I could work out how to qualify for it).

Big bid. Jun 2043

I'm guessing that a lot of you will wonder at my decision to keep so much money in the bank when it could be invested in the playing squad. 8904a5669a979b4546ff1ba0e31c33e2.png Although I have most certainly invested in the Facilities. This is a perfect example of why. I've already been able to protest quite a few transfers and negotiated at least 1 more too. I haven't been able to protest/negotiate all of them, but neither should I be able to. What I've been working towards is the situation we have here. We get a big bid in. A REALLY big bid and the board just ignore it completely. There is no "accepted but you can protest/negotiate". There is just no interference from them at all. The most we have received for a player was the £8.25M we got for Ngoie (BEL) ** and he's almost Chelsea's 1st choice GK at the age of 21 now. £17.25M cash for a player is an enormous amount of money for a club in Wales.

229a52de125502cbf6fb7d63e6c65f37.png

He's got 3+3 years left on his contract and has no min fee release clause so the chances are he's going to score a lot of goals for us over the next few years.

2230bdcbbe2a163f14374e808b685ce1.png

I need someone to support him though and for the whole of last season and half of this season I had to resort to getting a player in on loan who had the ability to partner him in Europe.

6a7fa78a0ad4103f51464bd1acb98c51.png

I expect Laybe (GUY) *, (He has Guyanese as a 2nd Nationality), to make an impact at Man City before too long and am surprised that he hasn't already, but they won the Premier League this season so it could be that they have an abundance of strikers. Despite how good I think he is, I'm not sure he's going to break into the starting XI at Man City so I'm tempted to get him in loan again next season, but on the other hand, every game he plays is a game that 1 of our youngsters doesn't play. His contract expires in 2046 so he's going nowhere for a while anywya.

Just read this in it's entirety. Brilliant save and brilliant read. I'm surprised more people haven't commented and applauded the read (this forum is dead in comparison to earlier years), but hey ho. Keep going and get onto the step 2 and 3 of your plan (love to see you manage Wales at some point)

Out of interest, do you plan on retiring your manager and starting another considering he's an OAP?

Thanks very much. Glad you are enjoying it.

I think Youtube and now Twitch have taken over from blogs and forums in terms of where the younger generations go for stuff like this.

I really want to win a European trophy before moving on to an English Welsh club, but I'm not sure exactly how realistic that is.

No, I won't be retiring my Manager profile. He wasn't far off being an OAP when he started, (and he gets that from me).

No, I think he has just been knocked off by Jamie Thomas (WAL) * SELL.

I earmarked Jamie Thomas (WAL) * SELL to be sold at the beginning of last season when I think he was valued at approx £2.5M. I've just noticed that he's worth £12.5M after getting his 1st Welsh Caps this season. He's definitely getting sold now.

The player valuations have gone huge! Have you got an extra 0.5* in rep or smth?

I'm really not sure. I don't think I've got there yet at the start of this season.

Will update you as and when I find it.

Something has certainly caused a boost in values though.

Take this player for example.

d8a6ba65e1637f1d60525ebf15cadc9d.png

He's been my favourite striker for the last few years, (largely because he's a product of our Academy), but also because he's been quite prolific.

11b8d65e8f4b28ff81f8b34503942372.png

Although he's only scored 45 goals in 89(19) league appearances, he's actually scored 84 goals in 156(36) appearances in all competitions. The reason I mention him thought is because if he was another player, ie not a product of our Academy, then forget selling him for £7.5M, he would have been off-loaded for almost anything by now. He hasn't scored in what seems like ages.

Labelled the next.... Sep 2043

I was just asked about my policy of signing all Youth Intake players, (and my use of the Editor on Youth Intake Day), in the following @_Ben_thread and I had reason to look at my GK's while responding.

(43a) Cheedy (IRL) is the best GK that we have seen come through our intakes.

866ac53db135fc0e6a3a6c66aed909b2.png

What is of particular interest to me is that he is "labelled the next Adrian Giggs".

f0726f6fad5ea335ff752a3b535c1fce.png

You lot aren't going to know Adrian Giggs, (because he's a Newgen), but I certainly know him because he's been the Welsh National side GK for much of this save.

Domestic games. We've conceded 5 goals in 7 games in the league, despite winning all 7 games. I look at the way that TNS went I think 9 games without conceding last season and I look at Afan Lido only conceding 2 goals in matches and I wonder what could be possible for us. Once we score 100+ goal in a league season, (we scored 91 last season), I think I might be tempted to go the other way and see how tight we can keep things at the back.

European games. I have to be careful that we don't win too many Champions League games if that doesn't seem so ridiculous. I obviously want to beat Red Bull twice, but other than that I don't mind if we don't win any other games, because it's imperative that we only finish 3rd and not 2nd by accident. As a result I fielded a weakened team against Bayern, but it was nice to see (37) McGoona (WAL) score after 13 dry games.

Goal-scoring keepers. I sent Stirling (SCO) out on loan because I wanted to play Pajvot (CRO) in as many games as possible, but also didn't want to stunt Stirling (SCO)'s growth. Pajvot (CRO) is up to 6 goals from 15 games, and very interestingly, Stirling (SCO) seems to have made a difference at Bristol City. They had lost their opening 4 games before he arrived, and are unbeaten in the 4 since his arrival.

I've just realised that the GK for Afan Lido is (37f) Lewis Brown SELL. He's one of ours obviously.

8 clean sheets in 9 league games, plus 2 more in the Nat MG Cup, (although not going quite to plan in Europe, although 2 goals conceded in 2 Euro Conference games suggest that they might have won the tie).

Domestic games. Annoyed to have drawn 2 games in the league this month. On the plus side, we're still unbeaten. If we win our 2 games in hand we lead TNS by 1 point.

European games. This wasn't what we had planned. We smashed Roma away and the problem with that is that we're currently 2nd rather than 3rd and we need to finish 3rd.

Domestic games. Another drawn game in the league is bad, (and don't even get me started on conceding 3 goals in 1 game), but we more than made up for that by smashing 6 (SIX) goals past TNS at their place, (including 2 GK penalties).

European games. I fielded a weakened team again against Roma, but it still didn't matter. We were far too strong for them. Our last game is against Bayern, and if we beat them we will top the Group, (which is what we want now).

Goal-scoring keepers. I'm afraid to say that Pajvot (CRO) missed another penalty this month, (against Barry Town). Although he's scored 9 goals this season, he has now missed 5 of 13 penalties. :(

Domestic games. We're unbeaten in ages in the league and we're ahead at the top of the table, but we've given away easy points with poor draws and we are conceding far too many goals.

Goal-scoring keepers. Pavjot (CRO) is up to 12 goals now, but he has now missed 9 (NINE) penalties. That's way more than usual and it's frustrating because I think he would have had a 20+ goal season. I "think" that the reason for the misses is happiness/morale.

6caacc4e7e26486958c31d1311d04659.png

I usually just delegate team training and look after individual training myself but after looking at an article on FM Scout I decided to follow their guidance.

While it seems to work ok, (it's possibly a little too "exploity" for me I think, I also don't think that it particularly suits everyone and specifically doesn't suit me because (A) we have too big a squad and it impacts negatively on players not playing enough, and (B), the happiness issue impacts my GK and is significant.

Domestic games. I'm really annoyed at the Barry result. We were unbeaten in domestic competition and I was starting to think that we might go unbeaten. No such luck.

I mean, it looks like by now Bloxham has a legit record as Cardiff manager. I guess he gets a full season worthy if you combine all those temperorary shifts.

I think this explains why he has never been given the job on a permanent basis.

European games. We were 5-1 down and with a late surge fought back to 5-3, but the last highlight of the game, that would have seen an away goals win for us had we scored, resulted in a turnover and a 95th min Chelsea goal. We were always a little short and we needed a 1 goal lead from the 1st leg.

Goal-scoring keeper. It was a strange season in that Pajvot (CRO) scored 15 goal,s (which is decent), but he missed 10 of 21 penalties, (which is awful). Had he scored all his 21 penalties then he would have scored 25 goals this season because he scored 4 free-kicks. IN any case, he is up to 42 career goals.

Financesd26e09e47144622280351250b16db503.png We made £13M from the Champions League, £8M for getting out of the Group and £9.2M for wins during the Group Stage, so £30M of our balance has come from the Champions League just this season. When you consider that the plan was actually to finish 3rd and qualify for the EURO League, then it's likely that we would be short £13M from this seasons actual income. I really want to win a European trophy with a Welsh club in Wales, and I'm thinking of engineering results to see how we do in the Euro Conference. Is that being a bit sneaky?

Final League Table. There are 5 Welsh clubs in Europe now and I personally think that it's important that the top 5 in the league are the clubs representing. The Top 4 are established,

Reputation. Jun 2044.

Someone asked previously if our reputation had been boosted when it seemed that our player valuations had taken a jump last season. I think I missed this page last season, (apologies), but it's cleat that it has been boosted, (although is still only National which I find a little surprising).

There's ourselves, TNS and then Barry Town, and after that it's relatively close between Afan Lido, Bala and Carmarthen, although I think Afan Lido have been more consistent in recent seasons.

Poached. Jun 2044.

This is the 1st time we have had a player poached, (I think), since Jun 2041, (so 3 years). Frustratingly, Leeds are again a Championship side after spending most of this save in the Premier League. So while the JD Cymru Premier might have a better reputation than the English Championship, Leeds are not your average Championship side and are still able to poach our players.

Let's have a look....

This just shows reputation for English and Welsh structure clubs.

There are 7 Worldwide English teams. I think the top 5 sides here are expected, and the Leicester is ok but Watford is a bug surprise.

Man City.
Man Utd.
Chelsea.
Arsenal.
Spurs.
Leicester.
Watford.

There are 8 Continental English teams. Liverpool are the big surprise here, (that they are ranked so lowly), and Stoke, (so highly).

Everton.
Wolves.
Liverpool.
Brighton.
Southampton.
Newcastle.
Bournemouth.
Stoke.

Then there are 6 National English teams above us

N.Forest.
Sheff. Utd.
Leeds.
Crystal Palace.
Birmingham.
Derby.

Then there is us

Leeds are actually showing as a Premier League club now and after checking it appears that they bounced back to the Premier League last season as Runner Up in the Championship. Although they were in the Championship when they poached our last player, they are back in the big time again now.

Derby are the only Championship side currently with a better reputation than us.

I haven't looked at this page in a while, (I can never find it when I want to), and it's interesting to see how the likes of TNS, Barry Town and Afan Lido are progressing.

My new plan is to stay at Ton Pentre at leas as long as it takes to reach Continental reputation.

Goal-scoring keeper. I had a problem with Pavjot (CRO) last season in that while he scored 15 goals, he missed 10 of 21 penalties which is way higher than normal. I either need to find out what is making him miss, (and fix it), or I need to get rid of him and get in a new GK who is going to score. So what do I think is causing him to miss? Well I think it's morale/happiness, but let's see if I can prove that. He's now missed 12 of his last 23 penalties. Is he happy? No, of course he isn't. He wants a new contract because I'm paying him a pittance and he has 2+3 years left on his contract.

d3484f48da04eab9afda2abde368c80b.png

If I can get him to sign a new contract then that should resolve issue #1 and issue #2 I think is historic and will vanish over time. I was trialling someone else's training schedules last season and it didn't work out.
