Liverunner
Has anyone had the problem where their PC won't register there being a disc in the CD-Rom drive? I can load cds and other dvd's on my laptop, which is 2 years old, but I have now tried 2 copies of FM 2009 from different retailers and cannot even get started. My PC has been checked over and is working fine. So I am stumped.

Matt ex SEGA
Other XML Errors First of all you need to turn on hidden files and folders. Go to My Computer and at the top select 'Tools' the 'Folder Options'. The go to the 'View' tab and select 'Show hidden files and folders' Delete the following folder: XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\settings Vista: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\settings This may solve some issues regarding the XML Errors
Mattr78
Hello I have having problem playing fm 2009. i have managed to install ok but i get to a match, click on match and screen freezes. anybody have any ideas? Regards Matt
Raykeith30
I also have the problem of the game freezing when you go to play your first competetive match (the pre-season friendlies are ok, for some reason). Putting it on 'windowed' status doesn't help. Would that graphics link mentioned earlier help? I really don't want to mess around with that if I can help it. Are there any other fixes or tricks elsewhere? Also, if that doesn't help, I've seen several posters say 'contact support', but the only support information in the booklet is a phone number, do they have a website or email address as well? Also, another Q. I have a secondary laptop, which is pretty high spec (higher than the PC FM09 is currently installed on), but which I don't want to connect to the internet at all. Can I install FM 09 on this without connecting to the internet?
CasinoDon
Ok, i have the same problem as Dan_Stubbs, so i called customer service and they told me to download patch 9.1.0. I downloaded (bare in mind i'm on mobile broaband which has a download limit thus wasting 163mb) this patch and when i tried to run it, it said Error: could not locate worldwide soccer manager 2009 installation folder. please browse and open wsm.exe Browsed, and can not find wsm.exe!!!! I then went back to the shop to take the game back as by this point i was pretty hacked off due to the fact that i was dying to get on and play but couldn't! They then told me that i can't take the game back because once the activation key code has been used and the game is pretty much useless on any other machine. Why can't Sega/SI just make the game simple to use? You buy it, take it home, install it, and play till 4am in the morning like the last FM, none of this, "phone this number, download this, update that". If i cant get this game up and running, BBC Watchdog and trading standards will be getting a call from me! P.S, is it true Championship manager is out in april? leedsforever
XML Parsing Error again. I've fixed this by deleting the folder I was told to but I can't load up my saved game still. I'm using 9.0.2 and I've defragged the drive that FM09 and the save game are saved/installed onto. Could someone provide further information or could someone official report if it has finally gone or not. The problem is that the progress bar for loading the saved game gets about a tenth of the way then stops. If I leave it for around two minutes, a new FM09 window pops up simply telling me 'The save game could not be loaded'. Why?
Junklover
I have a Macbook conforming to the minimum specs, I have FM09 running in Windowed mode with sound off & graphics set to 2D only. It crashes at the "setting up match" stage of my first friendly every time (just after "opposition instruction"). Any ideas?
Roy1970
You need to update DirectX and possibly your Graphics card driver. Yes, have updated Direct X and Graphics card. Now pop up message just says: "Football Manager 2009 has stopped Working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly". What I find most confusing is an old dell laptop runs the game fine in XP, a brand new HP Touch Smart running Vista struggles to load.

tlmarshall
I'm not sure what causes that to be honest - will have to ask SI when back at work on Monday. Sorry... Is this the same issue with my error code 0xc0000142? As my error message is headed by FM.EXE. However, my problem is that after a successful installation I can't get the game to work at all. I also have the problem when I try to load up Itunes...
Matt ex SEGA
No idea what affects your Itunes. Can't really tell what's causing the problems without a lot more detail, which Customer Services would be happy to walk you through providing.
Arkim
Recently decided to install FM 09 on my notebook as I will be travelling and to my surprise, it says my product key is invalid with the error number being -1003. What's odd is that it worked when I used it to install it on my home Desktop PC. I had purchased the game a few weeks after it came out and it worked then. I'm at a loss as to see why it wouldn't work now. Any suggestions? I have tried all the alternative activation methods and no avail. Thanks.
Kop_King
Matt! I need your help please, i've seen quite a few people with similar issue as me but ive as of yet come across a solution to it. Hope you can help me! Whenever i put my Fm09 disc into my laptop, it makes a noise as if its gonna load but doesnt. Eventually it does come up to autoplay but it says the disc is blank? ive tried going to computer, Disk drive and double clicking but that too seems to think its a blank disc... Now without Steam it has installed but won't load up at all, everytime i double click to load it up i does nothing.
ReadySteadyEddie
Now i have managed to get it reloaded with Steam, but it says it needs updating before i can play the game, but it says it's not avaiable at this time. How can something i own not be available for me to play. I have had evey FM and before that CM and never been so annoyed at it, why did they have to go and change it like this, it seems that it has been a complete waste of money getting this game! pjdonkin
hi i have downloaded the fm09 demo but everytime i attempt to lauch the game it opens a window as if about to lauch and then displays a fantastically useful error message reading simply 'fm.exe has encountered and problem and needs to close'. my system runs on windows xp specs: intel atom processor 1.6 GHz 1 Gb RAM graphics - intel gma 950 - 64 Mb memory i also have far more than enough hard disk space to run the game. as far as i can see the only problem is with my graphics card but after having searched numerous sites this shouldnt be a problem. the card can run the game as long as the 3d match engine is turned off i have followed all the steps suggested in the common issues thread posted on the steam forum, ie. my windows is completely up to date (.NET Framework 3.5), as is my directx (9.0c). i also downloaded directx SDK as suggested in another thread. i have deleted the demo from my system and re-downloaded it but everytime the same error message. is it possible that the demo is flawed in itself? i really don't want to spend money buying the full game tho only to find it does the same thing. i am a bit confused and any help would be hugely appreciated cheers
Matt ex SEGA
Not sure whether it is or isn't your GFX card to be honest.... I wouldn't recommend buying the game with a PC that's under spec.
