I've always wanted to go to Switzerland to see what the army does with those wee red knives.

February 2053 Mini-Update

An exceptionally strong start to life in Turkey, eh, Ludwig?  We've got a long ways to go, with the squad registration restrictions...we should dominante domestically, but cracking Europe will be a big challenge.

Our matches are not for the faint of heart, as shown by the 2nd leg in Serbia.  An incredible night, with massive swings and roundabouts.

And then we go and draw Fiorentina.  Football, bloody hell.

Tough break getting Fiorentina!

If I remember correctly. The last time Hakan actively didn't qualify for the Champions League he bribed as many officalls as possible and suddenly the teams above them "failed" the FFP. So don't sweat it.

Stade de Reims! We didn't even belong in the tournament!

Montpellier, favored club status!

Fiorentina have had a bad fall from grace. Where did it go wrong for them?

I'll double-check tonight. Simeone had a really good run with them, too. Gravity eventually caught them, but I'll see if I can track it more closely.

Things fell to pieces in 2042/43 under Markus Wienzierl.  Simeone followed Hakan, and carried on the traditions...followed by Brendan Rodgers and Allegri.  Wienzierl really ruined the fun.

Spent some time tonight getting my squad sorted...a more detailed look at my 1st XI, 2nd XI and youth (aside from 2 players, it was a truly awful intake).

Give squad registration and matchday rules, I need to shift some non-Turkish players out so that I can bring in the Scots...it's going to get interesting.  Regardless, I'll do a full squad assessment once my summer transfer business is done.

March 2053 Mini-Update

As always, the return to the Artemio Franchi was bittersweet.  Easily one of my favorite clubs, with many fond memories.  It's hard to believe that I first stepped foot in that hallowed ground more than 30 years ago.

I even had the opportunity to visit Papa Quintino for the first time in years...his health has been poor, which is why Apples has been traveling so much.  The family business requires...a firm hand...and many saw an opportunity with age taking a toll on Papa.  I don't know (and don't to know) the details, but I'm told Apples is quite...effective, in his stead.

Regardless, a warm welcome from all, including Pietro.  It was good seeing Tsakiridis and Mavropoulos from Frankfurt and Greece...good times.  And then that little **** buried one to seal the win for La Viola.  We dug ourselves a hole back in Istanbul, but couldn't fully recover.  Out on away goals.

It's ok.  We can focus fully on the league, where we've been rampant and find ourselves in 2nd with 8 matches to play.  We're also have a cup semifinal to play against Galatasaray.

All told, it's been a good start to life in Turkey.  World Cup qualifying is also about to begin, with Slovenia at Hampden in 9 days.

I always loved Tsakiridis, and am glad that he's found his way to Fiorentina.

Thanks. They haven't fallen as far as I had thought they had as they won it only 3 seasons ago. Not what they used to be though under Telleus, Simeone etc.

Yep. Gravity bright then back down to earth, as other clubs caught up. Thankfully, they haven't pulled a Saint-Etienne...

Gotta imagine squad building in Turkey is quite an experience.

It's going to be interesting.

Between the match rules, squad registration rules and fixture congestion (see all three below) you absolutely need 2 solid XIs.  I typically like a 24-26 player first team squad with a healthy dose of youth, but may end up using the full 28.  And, we already had 14 foreign nationals when I arrived.

From the end of November through the end of March, we're playing nearly 2x/week every week.  The Turkish Cup group stage and two-legged knockout rounds really add up.

To be clear, I'm not complaining in any way, shape or form.  I'm very much looking forward to it.

Yeah...it's a little bonkers.  For blooding/developing youngsters, though, it'll be perfect!  Lots of match opportunities.

March 2053 Mini-Update Redux

With one last win before the international break, our 7th in a row, the battle for that second (and last) Champions League spot in 2053/54 is well underway.  The level of competition isn't particularly stringent here, as my 2nd XI have managed to keep the ship afloat while the 1st XI was focused on Partizan and Fiorentina.

It should be a fantastic run-in, especially given that we'll play Galatasaray 3 times over a 6-week period (2 at the Şükrü Saracoğlu).

The more important developments came with Scotland, as we commenced what will hopefully be a solid, straightforward qualifying run for England 2054.  We underwhelmed at home against a Slovenian side that had no interest in coming out of their shell until the final minutes, but that's fine.  3 points are 3 points.

A quick glance at Europe reveals nothing too unexpected at this juncture, beyond the French absolutely dominating the Champions League at the moment, with 4 quarterfinalists.  Tours, Rennes, Leipzig and Anderlecht all in the mix for eligibility, too.

Meanwhile, the Irish are undefeated in World Cup qualifying.  Scintillating stuff from the boys in green.

Do you know the cause of Tours' rise? Was it a tycoon, or was it "natural"? It just seems like a completely random club to become a European power.

Tycoon takeover in 2047. France has been a crazy league over the last 30 years, for various reasons:

I'd like to see Anderecht eligible - a return to Belgium and an owner with his tail between his legs would be wonderful.

Anderlecht would be maddening. Toothless Bob having to turn to the Kiwi loving team!?

So could be two new teams in as many years. I'm starting to get the feeling that one of Hakan's many sons is going to have to take the wheel sooner or later!

Linus Gustav looks to be groomed for that task.

Turkey's registration rules are an absolute massive pain. I think they've reformed it now and allowed more foreigners, but I remember having to juggle players even within a match, as the rule was you could have 6 (?) foreigners on the pitch at the same time, which meant often if I wanted to bring in a foreigner from the bench I HAD to take out a foreigner as well. So by the end I had only Turkish guys for certain positions and only foreigners for others, so that I could swap them midgame without being forced to change tactics. :idiot:

Like I've said before, the final chapter in Hakan's story has been written. But, the save will go on! :D

It could be good fun and, to be fair, Anderlecht would be a fun team to take on.

Just seen that that's another easy six points for us! You Scots love helping us to major tournaments. ;)

I hope that we're the two sides to go through...let's just leave it at that :brock:

Seems like I definitely should not be complaining, then! I'm loving it so far. Granted, the competition isn't very stiff. Once I get through the squad reshuffle and (hopefully) bring in some Scots...could be mayhem.

How good are Romania? They always seem to produce great regens on my saves.

I'm pretty sure they're the second seed in my qualifying group and that, at one point, they came close to being eligible. I'll post up screenshots later.

Indeed.  I'm actually a little miffed that we didn't destroy him.  After that, he was asking for it.

I'll try to keep an eye on where he lands...honestly, I'm not sure where you go at this point in his career.  65 years old, having been sacked by the likes of Karabukspor.  Antonella has clearly left him by this point, to join CR7's cult.

It's grim.

I'm struggling to imagine Messi as a manager at all, nevermind dragging himself across Europe for decades until he ends up at Karabsomethingspor.

He started off relatively well, was managing Argentina for a time even...  This career trajectory is not something to be proud of.  It's Klinsmann-esque.

Probably a better idea to downvote me for having no bloody idea who the hell Jon Hamm is.

Seems quite the character, though!
