End of season update 08/09

Adaminho - England Under-19 international Adaminho got a taste for success earlier this season after scoring against Besiktas in a champions league clash in front of a packed Ibrox. And he continued to further his reputation, scoring in a substitute appearance against Hearts and in the following match against Dunfermline. For the remainder of the season, Adaminho proved himself to be a key part of the Rangers side embroiled in a bitter struggle to deprive Celtic of their fourth consecutive SPL title. Although Walter Smith was obviously concerned with pacing the ambitious striker's rise to fame, it was clear that when he needed a goal, he turned to the youngster. And this couldn't have been made more clear than on the final game of the season. At the top of the table, Rangers were two points clear of Celtic and Hollywood couldn’t have written the script better as the two faced each other on the final day at Ibrox. Taking a gamble by putting one so young in such an intense match was something that could make or break Smith, and Adaminho. But after 16 minutes Adaminho found the back of the net to a rapturous ovation. And so the score remained after 90 minutes, sealing Adaminho a place in Rangers folklore as the young man who won them the league, on the final day, against their bitter rivals. By the end of the season, Adaminho made 14 starts and 2 sub appearances, scored 9 with an average rating of 7.19.

Jose Manuel Arevalo - Since securing a first-team place at his new club Sheffield United, Jose has been determined to avoid being relegated for the second season in succession. But with only Billy Sharp seeming to pull his weight, the Andorran was set to face a long struggle. As he did, going down to the final game of the season with relegation a distinct possibility, it took a fine back-line performance against playoff chasers Ipswich to secure a 1-1 draw, and seal his sides place in the championship, if only by goal difference! The first-team regular played 43 games this season, scoring twice with a rating of 6.84. Jose also took his tally of caps for Andorra up to 15. These included an impressive performance in a 2-0 loss to Wales, and a pedestrian perfomance in a 6-0 thrashing by Spain.

Mike Bird - While Mike was unsettled during his loan move to Australian side Perth Glory, it didn't stop him showing what he could do on the pitch. In 24 games he bagged 19 goals, with an average rating of 7.46. But despite playing in what some would consider a level below his ability, Bird remained a regular fixture in the Portuguese Under-21 squad. As he earned his seventh cap, and scored his second international goal. But on his return, Mike was again excluded from Man City's first-team. And with another loan move on the horizon, it may be a question of how long a player rated so highly by Portugal can continue to stay at a club with a less favourable opinion of him.

Bobinho - After his loan move to Bristol Rovers was called short, it has been a disappointing season for Bobinho. His return to Boro, and fitness, resulted in just 4 reserve appearances scoring twice with a 6.75 average. Although he did find himself involved as a substitute in one Premiership match, where he recieved a rating of 6. Bobinho may have also hampered his international prospects after declaring that he would like an opportuinity to play for England, rather than Wales who had given him five Under-21 caps. But next season may bring some change after Boro suffered relegation in 19th place, Bobinho could find himself moving up the pecking order, or moving away from the Riverside.

Peter Brown - By anyone's standards, Brown had done well this year for the West Ham Under-18's. But after last year's nightmare injury, his form would have been even more sweet. In 18 starts, the promising striker hit the net an astonishing 17 times, with a rating of 7.15. Brown even impressed enough to make a brief Premiership sub appearance in a 2-0 defeat to Sunderland. But after spending the year injury free, Brown will be highly optimistic for the future.

Adam Clatworthy - With a loan move failing to materialise, Adam continued to do well in Sunderland's reserve matches as he scored 4 and created 2 in 11 games with a 7.17 rating. For the Premiership match against West Brom, Adam was named amongst the substitutes and came on sooner than expected when Kenwyne Jones went off injured shortly after kick-off. The explosive striker played well, giving an excellent account of himself and in the 75th minute he scored on his premiership debut! Clatworthy was then named in three of the next four starting line-ups, scoring his second goal in a 1-1 draw against Fulham. Over the closing games of the season Clatworthy became an important part of the team who finished in 9th place in the premiership. Clatworthy also won two full international caps for Northern Ireland, scoring one goal.

Alfonso de silva Santos - On making his move to join Spanish top flight club Villareal, the 17 year-old Andorran could have expected little more than a place in the side's back-up team. However, manager Pellegrini had faith in the youngster. And it paid off when the striker scored on his debut against Betis, then went on to score in his second appearance against Malaga. By the end of the season, in his 7 starting appearances, Alfonso bagged 4 goals with a 7.14 rating, helping Villareal finish fifth and qualify for the UEFA Cup. A magnificent start for such a young player. Alfonso also won his 14th cap for Andorra, although he has found it impossible to carry over his domestic form, scoring no goals.

Robert Dillon - While mid-table championship club Ipswich may not generally inspire much interest, the form of their young striker/winger Robert Dillon definitely has. Since signing from conference Torquay, Dillon has made 37 first-team appearances, scoring 17 with a 7.11 rating. Playing primarily as a striker, the explosive forward has found himself declared indispensable to the club. However, with a player in great form at a middling championship side, it may not be long until money talks and Dillon is on the road again.

Fredino - In his second season at championship Scunthorpe, Fredino has continued where he left off. This season scoring 19 in 50 starts with a 6.90 rating. As the side finished just a point off the playoff places, the Welshman may have some reason to stay put, and he publicly declares that he enjoys playing for the club. But it seems to be just a matter of time before a bigger club takes an interest in the free scoring youngster. Other good news for Fredino is that after a long wait on the bench, he finally won his first Welsh cap, starting and playing well in a 1-0 defeat to Turkey.

Frketson - Frketson did well to establish himself as a first team regular at Premiership Wigan. And by the end of the season he had notched up 30 games with two goals, although he only managed a 6.52 rating. This form was good enough to help Wigan avoid the drop and finish in 14th place. More pleasing for the Croatian would have been his international form. Since breaking through to the senior squad, Frketson has won seven caps and achieved an impressive average rating of 7.29 in games against tough European opposition. Frketson will hope that the experience he has received will help him improve for next season.

Pablo Gonzalez - After a move to Spanish second tier side Elche, Gonzalez would have hoped to soon tempt bigger clubs to activate his £300k minimum release fee. And his form was good enough to attract interest. In 33 games, Pablo scored 13 with 2 assists and an average rating of 6.97. But this was form which couldn’t help Elche avoid relegation. Spotting a potential bargain, Celta launched a bid for the Mexican and signed him for a bargain just below release fee. Pablo will move to the Spanish first division club as the transfer window opens.

Haowan - As Portsmouth experienced Premiership relegation, Haowan would have hoped to have established himself as a first team name this season. However, as events conspired, Haowan spent the entire season in the reserves, but his excellent form would have been difficult to ignore. The 19 year-old made 27 starts and scored a magnificent 26 goals and 5 assists with a rating of 7.67. And with this form, it will be hard for Haowan to spend next season in the reserves. As Pompey entered the playoffs, but failed to gain promotion, more big names may leave, presenting Haowan with his chance.

Juan King - Since making his breakthrough premiership appearance last season, Juan would have hoped to add to his tally of Sunderland games. But it was not to be. Despite spending most of his time in the first team squad, making just 9 reserve appearances with an excellent 9 goals and a 7.44 rating, Juan couldn’t force his way in to Harry Redknapp’s starting XI at any point in the season. Redknapp clearly preferred to play with two other men, rather than Juan King. While this may have disappointed King, his international form was excellent as he earned his sixth cap for Northen Ireland and took his international goal tally to four. Next season Juan will hope to follow Clatworthy’s example by seizing any first team opportunity he can get in the 9th placed side.

Quincy Klapatross - Earlier in the season Quincy was considering the prospect of Champions league football with French side Valenciennes FC. But as the season progressed, the team’s form trailed off, although they still finished beyond pre-season expectations in 9th place. Klapatross’ contribution was 9 goals in 28 games with a 6.79 rating, form which earned him a £5.25million valuation. In addition to his good club form, Quincy went on to win his fifth Under-21 cap for Holland, also bagging his first international goal. With Serie A side Livorno interested, Valenciennes may struggle to hold on to their young star.

Callum McCarthy - Callum found himself becoming a regular fixture in Derby county’s promotion campaign, although maybe not in the way he would have hoped. Appearing in 21 games, the England Under-21 made just 11 starts and got an average rating of 6.38 as his side won promotion finishing second. Callum also won his ninth England Under-21 cap. Although disappointed with his form, Callum is enthusiastic about his future and will look forward to Premiership football next season.

Brendan Petersen - While the young Aussie keeper helped save Burnley from relegation last year, this season proved to be too tough a prospect as the side finished 22nd and were relegated on goal difference. Brendan did what he could, in 35 starts he conceded 55, keeping 5 clean sheets with a 6.60 rating. In better news, Brendan sealed his place as Australian Under-21 keeper ahead of Dean Bouzanis as he went on to win his seventh cap. While Petersen has stated that he is happy at the club, it is hard to see a player of his potential compete in their League 1 campaign.

Loic Philippens - After a flying start at Pompey, Loic’s season slowed somewhat as his side pushed for the playoffs. In total he scored 13 goals in 27 starts and 4 sub appearances with a 6.81 average. Although his last 13 games saw just 3 goals from the Belgian, it would be considered an acceptable blip in form for one so young. But it wasn‘t good enough for Boothroyd, who dropped his starlet from the playoff semi-final squad to face Southend. And it looks like they may have missed Loic, as despite losing 5-3 on aggregate, no goals came from the strike partnership of Utaka and Nugent. Philippens also went on to win his sixth cap for the Belgian Under-21 squad, scoring his first international goal having played just the one match as a striker. After Portsmouth’s playoff failure Loic is considering his options. And with Zaragoza said to be watching him a third transfer in as many seasons could be on the cards.

Tom van der Fish - Since joining West Ham, Tom has spent the most part establishing himself in the Under-18 side. In which he showed good form by scoring 8 in 16 starts with an average rating of 7.00. And following the injury of Dean Ashton, which broke up his successful partnership with Alan Smith, an opportunity for first team football presented itself. But as Ashton returned, Tom must have thought he had missed his chance. However, between UEFA Cup legs against Juventus, Alan Smith was rested, and Tom made his debut away to Portsmouth in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Tom made a dream start when he scored in the first minute. Although his side eventually lost 2-1, the explosive striker received an 8 rating, even after picking up a knock. And undoubtedly raised his profile in the Hammers ranks. Tom also won his second Northen Ireland cap.

Arthur White - In the wake of a big money move to Newcastle, White would have expected to be thrust in to the first team. But Kevin Keegan is known for what could be described as eccentricities, and after spending £15.5 million on the striker Keegan gave him just three starts before the end of the season. But in those three games, Arthur showed everyone what he could do. Making his debut away to Charlton, White hit the net in the 24th minute after going 1-0 down, and received a rating of 8 as he help his side win 2-1. Two games later, White was given another start and scored again in a 2-1 victory over Reading. Although it took Keegan a while to get White involved, even after he scored 5 in 4 with a 7.75 rating for the reserves, he must certainly be the focus of next season’s plans. Arthur also couldn’t stop scoring in the England Under-21 side, netting 7 times in just 5 caps. And the season was capped off when White was awarded the English player's young player of the year for his 11 goals in 18 appearances for West Brom and Newcastle with a 7.39 rating. The wonderkid is really proving to be something special.

Ben Whitehead - Whitehead has thrived since his move to Sunderland. In the Under-18 side he has established himself as a truly great prospect and a credit to Redknapp’s scouting system. The young winger plucked from Non-league obscurity scored 18 and created 8 in 36 games, with a 7.19 rating. And the goal-getting wide man impressed enough to remain in the England Under-19 squad for the remainder of the season. As other youngsters begin to get their chance for the ever improving Sunderland, 17 year-old Whitehead will be hoping for his chance to shine soon.

Was going to ask who the new Pompey manager was and was going to applaud him for giving young Loic a chance. But after being dropped for the playoffs Mr Boothroyd got just what he deserved, nothing. That said hopefully he'll see sense again come next season and we can get Pompey back in the big time

Relegation, a rating of 6.6, only 5 clean sheets and reasonably poor mental stats despite being a beast physically. It could be better for both Burnley and Brendan so hopefully a transfer beckons to change my fortunes.

Brief 2009/10 pre-season update

Adaminho- Looks like Adaminho could be a first team regualar following last season's breakthrough heroics. Pre-season he has played 3, scoring 1 with 1 assist, 1 MoM and a 7.67 rating. In the first team squad it looks like Adaminho will partner Kris Boyd up front for Rangers' title defence.

Jose Manuel Arevalo- Jose seems certain to leave relegation battlers Sheffield United after his club accepted two bids in excess of £2.3 million from Nantes and Toulouse for the centre-back. Although United have offered him a new contract it is hard to imagine the Andorran turning down the opportunity of Champions league football with Toulouse.

Mike Bird- Mike has returned on loan to Australian side Perth Glory. He will hope to repeat his excellent form in his last spell at the club and enchance his reputation back at Man City.

Bobinho- Currently in the Middlesbrough reserve squad, Bobinho hopes to repeat last season's successful loan spell at Bristol Rovers this year. Although no loan move is arranged yet.

Peter Brown- Brown will hope to continue last seasons steady form in the West Ham reserve setup this year. Brown established himself enough to be included in the England Under-19 squad for the Euro U-19 championship. Starting each game of their ill-fated campaign.

Adam Clatworthy- This season Adam finds himself in the first team squad competing for a Premier league place. His pre-season form has been solid, if not impressive in his two games, scoring none with a 7.00 rating.

Alfonso de silva Santos- Looks set to retain last season's place on the fringe of the first team. At just 17, Alfonso is very much a part of the Villareal plan of attack, even when competing for a place with the likes of Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Robert Dillon- Has attracted interest from Nurnberg and Celta in the pre-season. Although no bids have been made the promising forward could be forced to leave Ipswich if he wants to play at the top level. Dillion was also included in the England Euro Under-19 side where he scored the winning gol in his nation's only victory.

Fredino- Fredino remains at Scunthorpe for now. But the striker has made it clear that he feels he has acheived everything he can at the club and will need to leave to further his career. No teams have declared an interest yet. But teams who want to land the Welsh striker will have to part with over £3 million.

Frketson- The signs look good for another season of first team football for the Croatian. And despite interest from Werder Bremen it is unlikely that the player, now rated as a wonderkid, will want to move just yet.

Pablo Gonzalez- Pablo has made a good start for Celta pre-season, scoring 2 in 4 games. The Mexican looks to be very much a part of his side's plan for the Spanish campaign.

Haowan- Haowan is set to be loaned out from the Portsmouth reserve team to gain first team football experience. If no temporary move is found and Haowan continues to be left out of the Pompey first team, he may look for a more permanent move.

Juan King- Like Clatworthy, Juan starts the season on the fringe of the Sunderland first team. Although he didn't have the same Premiership impact as Adam last year, his pre-season has been more impressive with 2 goals in 3 starts and a 7.67 rating. It will be interesting to see if the competition between the two young strikers will mould them for the future, or drive them apart.

Quincy Klapatross- In the pre-season Quincy was a key part of the Dutch side which domintated the Euro Under-21 championship. He was top scorer in the competition with 6 goals in 5 games with a 8.00 rating and scored twice in the 4-0 final victory over Germany. His pre-season form for Valenciennes has continued in th same vein as he scored 5 in just 3 games with a 8.00 rating. This season could be a big one for the Dutchman.

Callum McCarthy- Callum became the only sign-up player to complete a transfer in the pre-season as he signed for West Ham in a £9.75 million move. Joining a side pushing for Europe, and with a good reputation of developing youngsters, Callum will hope that his career will resume on a more stable path than before.

Brendan Petersen- Brendan did well for Burnley pre-season conceding 6 in 4 with a 7.00 rating. But in his last match he suffered fractured ribs and has been ruled out for one to two months. The Aussie Under-21 keeper who now has 9 caps will hope to get back as soon as possible an reclaim his first team place.

Loic Philippens- The Belgian has been on stunning form pre-season after netting 7 times in 5 games with a 8.00 rating. Which bodes well for the coming season with Portsmouth. But with Sampdoria declaring an interest in the forward, Philippens may find himself lured by the prospect of Serie A football if they should make a bid.

Tom van der Fish- Tom has found himself involved in first team duties pre-season with 3 starts and a 8.00 rating. And as the Ashton/Smith partnership worked so well last season, Fish could find himself as the man first in line to step in should either be ruled out. This season could see Tom get some more frequent first team appearances for West Ham. Although it would be hard to see him become a regular starter just yet.

Arthur White Wonderkid White has been on blistering form in pre-season matches. It started with the England Under-21 side where he took his goal tally to 14 in just 11 games. He has then continued for Newcastle where in 6 starts he has hit the net 7 times with a 8.17 rating. Although White may not be right at the top of the Geordie club's pecking order with Palacio, Martins and Oen in the side. His irresistable form in front of goal will surely drive his name in to the starting eleven this season.

Ben Whitehead- Promoted from the Under-18's to the sunderland reserve team, Ben will hope that he can continue to develop as he has been since being signed by Redknapp. Whitehead was called up to the England Euro U-19 championship side and was a regular fixture in their brief campaign. The potential is showing and this season may be the chance for the young winger to get his first taste of top level football.

Transfer window update, 1st Febuary 2010

Adaminho- Following last season's dramatic finale, Adaminho faced the prospect of trying to match those heady heights in this year's campaign. And so far he has more than done his part. In 27 games the England Under-19 has bagged 16 goals and has an excellent 7.37 rating. And Celtic fans must curse his name after he has scored four goals in the three old firm matches so far. While Rangers sit in second place in the SPL (surprisingly second to Motherwell, not fourth placed Celtic!) Adaminho has done all he can to help Rangers defend their title. This is form which has found his name banded about as a club favourite with such legends of Scottish football as Ally McCoist and Mark Hateley.

Jose Manuel Arevalo- Before he could play a game for Sheffield United this season, Jose found himself subject to competing bids from two French sides. And lured by the prospect of champions league football Jose signed for Toulouse, making it his third transfer in three years. Since his move the Andorran instantly cemented his place as a first team regular. And so far he has played 33 first team games with a 6.73 rating in a side which, despite making the knockout stage of the champions league, are sitting in the relegation places in the French league. Arevalo has also gone on to win his 21st cap for Andorra, most of which were in their ill-fated World cup qualification campaign.

Mike Bird- Following the disappointment of another loan move to Austalian side Perth Glory, Mike has shown his driven nature by working hard and playing well in his reluctant spell. In 18 starts, Mike has an excellent return of 16 goals and a phenomenal rating of 8.11. It is clear that Mike is playing in a league well below his level and he will hope to have some change in his club status when he returns to Man City. But as Portsmouth look interested in the Portuguese striker, Man City may have to impress Bird enough to keep him. And the towering striker is clearly rated as a big prospect, as Portugal have now handed him his 19th Under-21 cap, in which he has a return of 10 goals. First team, top level football is well overdue for Bird, and his career looks to be reaching a crossroad.

Bobinho- Facing another season in the Middlesbrough reserve team, Bobinho opted for a loan move to Championship strugglers Norwich to gain some valuable first team football. In his 11 matches played so far, Bobinho has netted 3 for the misfiring side. While Bobinho attempts to kick start his domestic career, his international progress has reached a stalemate. After impressing in the Welsh Under-21 side, Bobinho's choice to wait for an England opportunity obviously disappointed the setup in Wales. As such he has not been called up since. Although Bobinho has now changed his mind, it may take something spectacular for him re-establish himself as the prospect he once was.

Peter Brown- Remaining injury free and consistently performing in the reserve set up earned Brown a first team call up last season. But this season, after netting 7 times in 11 starts in the reserves, Brown has gone on to do even better. Given a start in the League cup quarter final against Liverpool, he has gone on to make 4 league starts, scoring against both West Brom and Sunderland. As Brown is still included in the first team squad, it looks like he could be a part of the West Ham plan for years to come.

Adam Clatworthy- Making an impact at the end of last season, Adam would have hoped to pick up where he left off. But this term has been a mixed success. Included in the first team squad, the striker has made four first team apearances, three from the bench, and with an impressive 7.25 rting. But The Northern Ireland international has failed to score in his brief opportunities, and it looks like he may have to break his duck to become a first team regular. Adam has also won his seventh Northern Irish cap and taken his international tally to three goals.

Alfonso de silva Santos- After impressing at the close of last season, Santos has continued this year with a first team place and impressive form. As Villareal struggle to move from mid-table to European placings, Alfonso has bagged 5 goals and an assist in 13 starts with a 7.07 rating. Very impressive for an 18 year-old competing in one of the worlds biggest leagues. And that has led to him being branded a "Wonderkid" by many aspects of the media! Alfonso has also scored his first international goal for a woeful Andorra and claimed his 21st cap.

Robert Dillon- After just one appearance this season, Ipswich accepted a £2.7million bid from German club Bochum for the explosive forward and Dillon was on the move. Instantly slotting in to the first team, Robert has enjoyed his football so far. In 17 starts, he has switched regularly between the left wing and up front, but still scored 7 and won 4 MoM awards with a 7.06 rating. And if his club continue their form they would be in place for a champions league spot, as they sit in 2nd.

Fredino- In his third consecutive season at Scunthorpe, Fredino has continued his regular form. This season scoring 9 and creating 4 in 30 starts with a 7.27 rating. However, as the transfer window closed Fredino repeated his early season statements, and went one further by declaring himself unhappy at the club and wanting to move on. Although no clubs are publicly interested in the explosive striker, it is certain he will find no lack of bidders should Scunthorpe make him available. But all the time Fredino continues to perform, will Scuntorpe be content to hold him against his will for as long as possible? Fredino has gone on to win his fifth international cap for Wales and has scored two in matches against Ireland and Latvia.

Frketson- Despite his Wigan side languishing in bottom place in the Premiership, Frketson has had a run of solid, consistent form. In 28 starts, the Croatian has scored 1 and earned a rating of 6.83. Form which makes him one of Wigan's few quality performers. For Croatia, Frketson has also sealed his place as a first team regular, winning his twelth cap in the World cup qualification playoff against Russia. As his reputation enhances, Frketson has found himself dubbed a Wonderkid. And has also attracted transfer interest from Newcastle, Sunderland and Porto. And if Wigan were to get relegated, it is hard to imagine them not cashing in on their highly rated centre-back.

Pablo Gonzalez- Competing mostly in the reserves since his move to top flight Spanish side Celta, Pablo has impressed with 8 goals in 11 reserve starts and a rating of 7.27. Pablo was called up for his first team debut to start against Barcelona in the Nou camp. And Pablo did well, his side coming so close to an upset until a 88th and 89th minute goal turned the scoreline 2-1. Since then, Pablo only made a brief sub appearance for the first team. But still chosen in the first team squad, Pablo is clearly rated as one for the future.

Haowan- Although Haowan looked set to face another season of fraustration in the Portsmouth reserves, he has been determined not to let it effect his football. For the reserve side he has been on fire, scoring an amazing 23 goals in just 14 starts with 9 MoM awards and a 8.27 rating! This form was impossible for manager Aidy Boothroyd to ignore, and Haowan has so far made 4 starts and 4 sub appearances in the Tractor Boys' playoff campaign, scoring 2 senior goals. Haowan has also been called up to the Spanish Under-19 squad, and has stated that he is happy to be a part of the setup.

Juan King- While Juan was primarily a reserve team player last season, Redknapp has shown himself to be a big advocate of Juan King, giving him a first team place this year. And Juan hasn't failed to perform. Given 18 starts Juan has hit the net 10 times, making him Sunderland's top scorer as they battle relegation, with a rating of 6.72. Juan King has also proved to be successful internationally, as he has won his 13th cap with a return of seven goals. An impressive start to his senior career, but how Sunderland finish could hav a big impact on his future.

Quincy Klapatross- With a successful pre-season behind him, Quincy would have hoped to take some of that form in to Valenciennes French league campaign. And despite fairly middling form which sees the side in 11th place, Quincy has done well. In 22 games he has hit the net 10 times with a 6.82 rating. For the Dutch Under-21s Quincy has also continued to establish himself, scoring 8 in 12 caps.

Callum McCarthy- Following his big summer move to West ham, Callum has done well to establish himself in the mid-table side's Premier league campaign. The driven left-sided player has made 16 starts with 4 sub appearances this season, scoring 3 and creating 2 with a 6.85 average. Most of which have been playing at left-back. Callum has also gone on to win his 19th England Under-21 cap.

Brendan Petersen- After becoming Burnley's first choice goalkeeper, Brendan has experienced a season hampered by injuries to the ribs. But despite the interruptions, The Australian Under-21 international has made 26 starts for the mid-table league one side, keeping 8 clean sheets and conceding 31 goals. As his side underperforms in the league, Petersen has made it clear he wants to leave and has handed in a transfer request. Although so far, only League 1 strugglers Nottingham Forest have expressed an interest.

Loic Philippens- After last season's good form, Loic has impressed further this campaign. As Portsmouth look to challenge for the playoff places, the Belgian Under-21 has been a key player, scoring 15 in 33 starts with a 7.06 rating. Loic was also named captain of the Belgian Under-21 side and won his ninth cap, with 4 goals. While Philippens is happy at the club, if Portsmouth fail to acheieve promotion for a second season, he could be on the move.

Tom van der Fish- After making a good start pre-season and for the reserves, where he earned a 7.50 rating from 6 starts. Tom was quickly called up for first team duties, and went on to get 4 first team starts scoring 2, creating 2 and getting 2 MoM awards with a brilliant 7.75 rating. But after such a promising start, Tom suffered a torn calf muscle and still has two months until he recovers. At just 19, it could be a big blow to his future. But other players like Peter Brown have proven that it doesn't always have to be too much of a setback.

Arthur White- As Newcastle sit in a strong fourth place, they owe a part to their young wonderkid Arthur White. Although he has only made thirteen appearances so far this season, Arthur has hit an excellent return of ten goals with a 7.38 rating, making him the clubs top scorer. In addition to his excellent club form, Arthur also went on to win his first full England cap as he started in the 0-0 draw with the Czech Rep. With a large part of the season remaining, it is hard to see Arthur not adding to his goal tally and continuing to prove himself as one of the rising stars in world football. And his reputation truely is continental, as Serie A title challengers Fiorentia are looking to add the Striker to their squad. Although he is unlikely to move unless Keegan refuses to give him more games. And the manager would have to be mad not to!

Ben Whitehead- After working hard to establish himself through the ranks at Sunderland. Whitehead earned his first team opportunity and sealed his reputation as a goal-getting winger by scoring on his Premiership debut against Man City. Ben has continued to be named in the first team squad, and has played 5 senior games to date, scoring 2 goals. The iron willed winger has done well to break through, and looks set to further his reputation in the remainder of the season.

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

well what can i say. Hes doing fantastically in Glascow, scoring goals, and is a club faveroute! We'll take the title, Motherwell wont win it,

Great updates KUTGW

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

In fairness, he has played for a relegations team every season! In the context of his sides, he is usually the teams best player, definitely the best defender. And a rare beacon of consistency in a relegation dogfight!

And doing well in the Champions league so far!

End of season update 09/10

Adaminho- As the transfer window closed, Rangers looked set to outpace Motherwell and retake the top spot to retain their title. However, the SPL this season has seen every side prone to erratic form. And this turbulence saw Celtic take the top spot, as Rangers dropped to just third! But Adaminho’s form remained strong throughout the season and he finished as third top-scorer with a return of 20 from 38 starts with a 7.21 rating. Form which now finds him with a long overdue England Under-21 call up. However, his sides domestic form has left Adaminho disappointed and considering a move elsewhere, despite his status as a club favourite and a friendship with strike partner Kris Boyd. With no teams declaring an interest yet. It will not take long for one of Europe’s big clubs to move in for the in form striker.

Jose Manuel Arevalo- Following a move to Champions league qualifiers Toulouse, Jose would have expected a big step up. However, his new teams poor domestic form throughout meant they finished in bottom place in the French league and facing relegation. Their European form was better, as Jose was a key part in a side which finished just two goals away from qualifying from the group stages. Jose was solid despite the inconsistency of his team, averaging 7.00 in the competition. Making 50 starts, Jose scored 3 times with an average rating of 6.74. Jose also won his 23rd cap for Andorra. It looks unlikely that the strong centre-back will stay for much longer as Portsmouth and AC Milan are said to be watching the youngster.

Mike Bird- After last season, Mike faced another disappointing season of being overlooked by the Man City setup when he was loaned to Australian side Perth Glory. But eager to impress, Mike simply went out to prove that he was playing well below his level. In 25 starts down under, Bird hammered home 21 goals with an average rating of 7.88. But his spell in Perth was cut short when he dislocated his shoulder, an injury which still has a week left to recover. Despite being overlooked at club level, he won his 20th Portuguese Under-21 cap, with 11 goals. If things stay the way they are, it s difficult to imagine Bird staying at Man City much longer. At 20, many of his peers have made their big break already, and Mike will feel that his progress has been stifled by City.

Bobinho- Following an early season loan move to Norwich where he scored 4 in 12 starts, Bobinho may have been disappointed to return to Middlesbrough’s reserves. And as the side were challenging for playoff places, first team opportunities were scarce. But as the end of the season rolled in, Bobinho found himself named on the bench, and brought on as a sub in the 2-0 win over Preston. A week later, Bobinho was named in the starting line-up for a crucial match against Norwich. And he did wonders for his reputation, scoring after 41 minutes and finishing with an 8 rating in his side‘s 2-1 victory. Bobinho was on the bench for the remainder of the season and saw his side lose in the playoff final. The Welsh Under-21 now finds himself named in the first team squad. But whether he remains at the Riverside for next season’s championship campaign is another issue.

Peter Brown- After making his first team breakthrough earlier in the season, Peter Brown went on to expand his ever growing reputation. By the end of the season Brown had started 13 matches and scored 6 with a 6.92 rating to help West ham to 9th place in the Premiership. Which included a brace with a Man of the match performance in a 2-2 draw with London rivals Charlton. Peter has also earned himself a regular place in the England Under-19 team where he is one of the top performers. At just 18, Brown has made a big impact and the future looks bright for the enthusiastic striker.

Adam Clatworthy- Although the season started slowly for Clatworthy, his patience in the first team was rewarded later on. As his side tried to push out of the bottom half, Clatworthy contributed with 9 goals in 16 games with a 7.25 rating, which included goals against Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool at Anfield. This run of form was mostly while playing up front with fellow conference star Juan King. And both now form a partnership domestically and internationally for Northern Ireland where Clatworthy won his ninth cap. Due to his excellent form, Adam is now rated by the journalists as a Wonderkid! And is currently being linked to the likes of Tottenham, Bayern and Roma. Although loyal to his club, it may be hard for both parties to refuse an approach from one of Europe’s elite.

Alfonso de silva Santos- Continuing his impressive early season form, Alfonso has gone on to score 13 in 30 games with a 7.10 rating for mid-table Villareal. The wonderkid has also doubled his international goal tally in that time, scoring his second goal in 23 caps against Luxembourg. At just 18, his consistent performances for an average side in one of the world’s top leagues earned him interest from the world’s biggest clubs. With Lyon, Juventus, Lazio and Barcelona in the chase, it was Roma who sealed his contract after meeting the bargain release clause fee of £3 million. As the Italian giants compete in the champions league next year, Alfonso will be desperate to impress as he joins the side who finished second in Serie A.

Robert Dillon- As his new side Bochum’s early season form threatened the champions league places, their latter season form fell with a whimper as the finished 15th, just one place off relegation. However, Dillon was the one reliable aspect of Bochum’s season. In 36 starts the versatile forward scored 17 with 4 assists and 7 MoM awards with a 7.14 rating. And that goal ratio is even more impressive considering that 14 of his appearances have been on the left wing. This form has earned Dillon the tag of wonderkid! And earned him a place in England’s Under-21 side. Although his move to Germany may have been recent, it will not be surprising to see his club accept a big offer from clubs keen to exploit his full potential.

Fredino- While Fredino may have wanted to leave in the transfer window, his form showed no signs of it. The Welsh striker scored 15 and created 6 in 47 starts with a 7.12 rating this season. Performances which helped his side in to the playoffs. Where Fredino’s solid perfomances saw them through to win the final against Middlesbrough 1-0 and earn promotion to the Premiership. The club will hope this success may calm the striker’s urge to move to a bigger club, and with 51 league goals in three seasons they can’t afford to lose him. But the cash may prove too tempting if a big club comes knocking. Fredino has also won his sixth cap for Wales, whre he has scored twice.

Frketson- Wigan have had a terrible season. Bottom of the table at Christmas, they did little to confound the critics who condemned them to relegation and finished bottom with little more than a whimper. Frketson was one of the few solid performers. Starting 36 games he had a disappointing average rating of 6.67. However, his potential was plain to see and soon the player dubbed a wonderkid had interest from Arsenal, Newcastle, Napoli, Porto and Fenerbache amongst others. But it was Barcelona who signed the centre-back with a £7.75 million + clauses bid. With his move yet to take effect, the youngster who has won 14 caps for Croatia will be looking forward to joining one of the true giants of football.

Pablo Gonzalez- Pablo had what could be considered a frustrating season since his move to Celta. Although his side finished eighth, higher than expected in the Spanish league, Pablo made just 3 starts for the club, returning 1 goal. His Nou camp debut will obviously remain a great memory for the young striker. But next season he will hope to have a lot more moments to cherish as he tries to break in to the first eleven.

Haowan- Another player who is a victim of being frequently overlooked by his side. Haowan would have been pleased to end the season with 12 appearances (8 sub) and 2 goals. While it was a small contribution to a Portsmouth side who won automatic promotion by finishing second in the championship, Haowan would be pleased to finally be considered a member of the first team squad. And this was in no doubt part to the Spanish Under-19’s blistering form in the reserves, where he bagged 34 in just 24 games with an 8.08 rating. As Pompey gain promotion to the Premiership, Haowan will hope for the chance to be given a chance to prove himself at the top level.

Juan King- Given the chance of first team football this term, Juan proved that he could hold his own at the top level scoring 11 in 23 games with a 6.87 rating. And within these performances King showed his true potential which led to many people hailing him as a wonderkid! Most promising is his partnership with fellow wonderkid Adam Clatworthy up front, which could lead Sunderland on to the next level providing they manage to keep both at the club. Juan has continued to perform at international level, having now scored 7 goals in 15 caps.

Quincy Klapatross- As French side Valenciennes FC finished 13th in the league, Quincy has made it clear that he needs to move to a bigger club to achieve his ambitions. Making 37 starts, the Dutch centre-forward scored 15 with a 6.81 rating. Goal scoring form which has attracted interest from big clubs such as Lyon, FC Bayern, Athletico Madrid and Sevilla. Although no bids have yet been made, it would be no surprise to see Klapatross move away from the underperforming French side and join a side which can help him win his first full international cap.

Callum McCarthy- Big things may have been expected from Callum following his big money move to West Ham, and he has not disappointed with his form this season. Making 28 starts, split almost equally between Left-back and left-wing, McCarthy has scored 2 with 5 assists and a 6.94 rating. Solid form which helped the Hammers seal a 9th placed finish. Obviously considered a big art of West Ham’s future, Callum is also seen to be the future internationally, as he has found his name included in the likely candidates for England’s 2010 World cup campaign. Although he may not be in the first team, the experience of appearing at the biggest stage in world sport could be invaluable, and push Callum on to the next level.

Brendan Petersen- Following seasons of disappointment at Burnley, the only real positive has been the discovery of young Aussie keeper Petersen. This season again, he performed in spite of his teams inability to achieve. Making 38 starts, despite a series of niggling injuries, Petersen kept 13 clean sheets, conceding 42 with a 6.71 rating. As his side finished 8th, missing promotion back in to the Championship, Brendan will hope to be given to be given the opportunity to move up level and show what he can do on a bigger stage. Brendan has now earned 11 Under-21 caps for Australia.

Loic Philippens- After a promising start last season, Loic has now truly established himself as a quality first team player for Portsmouth. Given 46 starts, Loic repaid his manager’s faith with a 21 goal return and a 7.15 rating, making him joint top scorer at the club with striker partner Dave Nugent. The Belgian was a key part of his side finishing 2nd and earning automatic promotion to the Premiership and will hope that he can continue in the same vein next year.

Tom van der Fish- After making his first team breakthrough, Tom suffered the nightmare of 3 months out with a torn calf muscle. The injury could have shattered the player, but the enthusiastic striker has regained fitness and, although he failed to make another first team appearance this season, he impressed in the reserves where he scored 3 in his last 3 appearances. Tom is obviously highly rated as a hot prospect by manager Roy Keane as he has given him one-to-on tuition from the Premier league’s best striker in recent years, Dean Ashton. Next term Tom will hope to suffer no recurrences of his injury, and add to his tally of first team goals.

Arthur White- While Arthur made a late start in the Premiership as ‘Manager of the year’ Kevin Keegan choose to save him for the final push, he wasted no time getting up to speed. In 21 first team starts this season Arthur netted 14 times with a rating of 7.29 to make himself the team’s top scorer. His goal to beat Wigan on the penultimate day was an integral part of the reason Newcastle managed to finish ahead of the big four to win the Premier league! After becoming a key part of a Premier league winning squad after just 70 professional games, it is hard to see how Arthur’s season could get much better. But with the 2010 World cup around the corner, and White almost certain to be named in the squad, Arthur could propel himself from being a Geordie hero, to an English hero.

Ben Whitehead- Since making the breakthrough from the youth setup, Whitehead has made himself impossible for Redknapp to ignore. By the end of the season the explosive winger became the third ex-conference youngster to appear for the Mackems, as he made 12 appearances with a 6.83 rating. Even scoring in the 1-0 Premiership victory over Man City. Now considered a first team player, it will be interesting to see if Whitehead can go on to establish himself like King and Clatworthy.
