Birth of a New Nation

Club Overview for Season 2010/2011

AFC Posul

Media Prediction: 11th

They have established themselves in the First Division, will they be able to build on it and start to push for a top half finish?

Argyres Myrmidons

Media Prediction: 4th

Narrowly missed out on European football last season, and struggled in the Intertoto as well, they should have the ability to challenge for a top four finish once again and look to enter Europe once again, will their top training facilities, and excellent youth facilities start to make a difference? The average age of the squad is only 23.

Bozarburg

Media Prediction: 5th

In their first season back in the First Division they came 6th which is a tremendous achievement, they’ll be looking to build on that and push for a spot in Europe. They now have top training facilities, and state of the art youth facilities, with an average age of 22, is this starting to have an affect?

Diamond Heights

Media Prediction: 12th

They’ve been predicted for the drop by the media in each of the last three seasons, they truly are the underdogs, with the media now acknowledging they deserve to be in the EFD, will they struggle and face a relegation battle?

Faradafry

Media Prediction: 13th

Predicted in 15th and came 13th, they’re likely to struggle again but can the fans get behind them and help keep them up? With Newtonia dropping out of the division, they now have the smallest stadium in the top flight.

FC Jasque

Media Prediction: 1st

The first two time winners of the EFD, are they going to exert their dominance for years to come? An average age of 23 suggests this may be the case. Can they also build on their domestic success by being the first Ellisian team to make the group stages of the Champions League? It will be difficult but if any team can do it, the Atoms can.

Grimme Athletic

Media Prediction: 9th

Followed up a Championship winning season by finishing 11th, Grimme Athletic were the biggest underachievers this year and they also struggled mightily in Europe, crashing out in the first qualifying round. Predicted 9th this year, are the average training and youth facilities going to hinder their chances of staying as a top club in Ellisia?

Grimme City

Media Prediction: 16th

Avoided relegation, just, avoiding it on the last day of the league season, and in a tight playoff with Rayleigh. Now that they have a second season in the EFD, will they be able to stay there for many more years or will they do as the media predict, and get relegated.

Lantisia City

Media Prediction: 5th

They’ll be disappointed with an 8th place but happy they won the Isoeph Cup for some silverware. They’ll be looking for a top half finish and continued success in the cups.

Nodnol City

Media Prediction: 6th

Nodnol performed well above expectations, noone predicted a top four spot or European football for the team fast becoming the “other team†of Nodnol thanks to FC Jasque’s success. The large stadium, good facilities and excellent youth system should help them start to maintain good finishes in the league. Can they be the first Ellisian team to get to the UEFA Cup First Round via the Intertoto?

Port Nelson Admirals FC

Media Prediction: 2nd

Port Nelson were once again challenging last season and their victory over Argyres in the Emperors Cup has guaranteed them UEFA Cup football again. They reached the First Round last year where they narrowly lost to FC Barcelona, one of the biggest clubs in football. This year they will be looking to do one better and reach the Group Stage of the UEFA Cup. A first round placing would still be an excellent result however.

San Angel Club Eagles

Media Prediction: 14th

They struggled for the first time last year, finishing 14th. It remains to be seen whether the flurry of transfer activity will make the difference to this club next year. A tough season lies ahead.

Shasarazade FC

Media Prediction: 8th

Not as good a year as last, especially on the scoring front, but their goals record still stands and they’ll be looking for another top half finish after 7th and 5th positions respectively. Unlike last year, the media expect it too.

Stravchine Balanvinski

Media Prediction: 3rd

The 5th in 2008/09 was followed up by a magnificent 2nd this year and UEFA Cup football for the first time having failed to progress through the Intertoto in the first season. They’ll also be looking to challenge up at the top again as the big club they are.

Wegason Dragons

Media Prediction: 10th

Their lowest position yet for the Dragons, 12th is not what the fans wanted and a club with the fourth biggest stadium in the league will be wanting to start finishing in the top half and competing for trophies. Top training facilities and excellent youth facilities demand it!

Whitefield United

Media Prediction: 1st

They bounced straight back up, and will be looking to stay, as the media predicts. They need to invest in their facilities to consistently challenge but they should still be playing EFD football next year, whether they can reach former heights remains to be seen.

NOTABLE SECOND DIVISION CLUBS

United Commonwealth Club

Media Prediction: 1st

After getting relegated they almost came back up but fell away at the end when victories would of given them the chance of promotion, they are predicted 1st this year, and with their stadium expansion completed, they have a top class stadium which deserves to be in the EFD. They need to get back up, soon.

Newtonia

Media Prediction: 2nd

Having avoided relegation the previous season to last, they got relegated last season and will be looking to challenge UCC for automatic promotion this year. They had the smallest stadium in the EFD, but it’s quite decent for the ESD, will it make a difference?

BIRTH OF A NEW NATION

Season 2010/2011

Transfer Market

The summer of 2010 saw a change in the trend as Championship and lower Premier Division calibre players were purchased in bulk by EFD clubs. Port Nelson went on a spending spree, spending £7.2m during the summer, with the £4.1m signing of Jordan Spence from West Ham, and the £2.3m signing of Anthony Gardner from Hibernian. Other major signings were Stephen Husband by UCC, who were showing their ambition to return to the EFD with his £2.5m capture. It was however the Admirals and the Myrmidons who were said to have caught the imagination of fans with big name transfers.

European Competitions

Ellisia’s entrants into the Champions League were League Champions, FC Jasque, competing in the competition for the second time, having come so close to reaching the group stages last time around, being denied by the away goals rule. Their campaign this season started off in the First Qualifying Round with a match against Murata of San Marino. A 3-0 victory at home was followed by a 1-0 victory away from home to advance to the second qualifying round where they were to meet… Turkish giants, Fenerbahce.

Playing at home, FC Jasque lost 1-0 to Fenerbahce and had to travel to Istanbul knowing they needed a victory. A minute before half-time and Mackail-Smith scored when he knocked in a rebound from a Rossa shot that Mackail-Smith had created the opportunity for. The second half goalless and the two teams went into extra time, where Jay Varela was sent off for two yellow cards, meaning FC Jasque were down to ten men! Despite this, FC Jasque got stuck in and prevented Fenerbahce from scoring, taking the game to penalties to decide who’d go through to the third qualifying round.

First up was Keogh for FC Jasque and he tucked it away to make it 1-0.

Mehmet Aurello took the Turkish side’s first penalty, and scored to make it 1-1.

Berkley took the next penalty for FC Jasque, but sent it wide of the goal. Disaster

Appiah could give Fenerb ahce a lead in the shootout, he shot and… Hennessey saved! It was still 1-1!

Irwin then scored for FC Jasque, and then Can had his saved once again by Hennessey! 2-1 to FC Jasque!

Danny Murphy was calm and collected as he converted his penalty, leaving Ilhan needing to score to keep his team in it, but he ballooned it over the bar!

FC Jasque were through!

After the joy of facing and beating the Turkish giants, FC Jasque were hoping for an easier opponent in the third qualifying round and in the form of Slavia Prague, one could argue they got it. A 1-0 victory at home thanks to Mackail-Smith left them needing only a draw to progress in the return fixture. They went ahead early in the away fixture which meant Slavia Prague needed three goals to get through, they could only manage the one. FC Jasque won 2-1 on aggregate, and were through to the Group Stages of the Champions League

Switching our attention to the Intertoto Cup where Nodnol City were competing, they had to face F91 Dudelange of Luxembourg in the first round. A 3-0 win and a goalless draw put Nodnol through. Nodnol drew KV Mechelen of Belgium in the second round of the competition but could only battle to a 0-0 draw despite dominating proceedings. Fortunately, they managed to achieve a 1-0 victory away from home to secure a third round tie.

With a lot of lesser known teams left in the competition, Nodnol were hoping to avoid the big guns, teams like Sevilla, Lazio, Boavista, and Marseille. They were drawn against... Hertha BCS Berlin of Germany and travelled to the Olympiastadion in Berlin knowing they had a tough job on their hands. They conceded a penalty early on but Hertha failed to convert, they did take a 1 goal lead shortly after and this was cruelly made into a 2-0 lead thanks to a penalty in injury time. Nodnol would face Hertha Berlin at the Temple, needing to win by three clear goals. Things started well when Spicer scored for the Royals after 20 minutes, and were even better after half time when Hunter scored a second. With time running out it looked destined for extra time when Peter Winn got on the end of a Kearney cross two minutes into injury time and buried it to give Nodnol the 3 goal victory and send them into the UEFA Cup.

The two teams entering the First Qualifying Round of the UEFA Cup were Stravchine Balanvinski and Port Nelson. Balanvinski failed once again in Europe, losing 1-0 on aggregate to Beitar Jerusalem. Port Nelson managed a 4-2 aggregate victory over Rijeka to progress onto a second qualifying round tie against SC Heerenveen of Holland while Nodnol kept with the theme of Ellisian teams facing Turkish giants by being drawn against Besiktas. Nodnol City went out 2-0 on aggregate to Besiktas but Port Nelson knocked out Heerenveen with a 1-0 away victory in the second leg to progress to the First Round of the UEFA Cup.

The first round of the UEFA Cup saw Port Nelson drawn against the conquerors of Nodnol in the form of Turkish giants Besiktas. It would seem this year was the year of Ellisian teams facing Turkish giants. The first match saw Port Nelson at home to the Turkish side and it was Besiktas who took the lead with a goal in the 35th minute. A penalty in the 57th minute levelled the scores for Port Nelson but less than ten minutes later and they were one goal down again. It looked like a victory for the Turkish side until Port Nelson scored a goal five minutes from the end to make it 2-2 and give the Admirals a slim chance of progressing to the group stages of the UEFA Cup.

When Port Nelson travelled to Istanbul they took an early lead thanks to George Bull but Batuhan equalised shortly afterwards. Port Nelson scored a second time when Taylor put it in the back of the net, only for it to be cancelled out two minutes later by Batuhan again. Besiktas then scored a third, through Batuhan once again which meant Besiktas were leading 5-4 on aggregate. The good news was, that with the previous game being a 2-2 draw, an equaliser for Port Nelson would see them through. McGurk was the one who nabbed that equaliser in the 70th minute and with the game tense for the last twenty, it was McGurk again who sealed Port Nelson’s place in the group stages with a injury time goal that secured a famous victory for the Admirals. Port Nelson were through to the group stages of the UEFA Cup.

GROUP STAGES

FC Jasque were drawn in a group with Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and Glasgow Rangers, while Port Nelson’s UEFA Cup group featured Girondins Bordeaux, Fiorentina, AEK, and Club Brugge.

Port Nelson could only struggle to two draws against Club Brugge and AEK, losing to Bordeaux and Fiorentina. Had the draw against AEK been a victory, Port Nelson would have advanced into the next round. Even so, it is the furthest an Ellisian team has advanced in the UEFA Cup and will have really enhanced their reputation.

FC Jasque lost their first three matches in Group B of the Champions League, going down 3-1 to Man Utd, 1-0 to Atletico Madrid, and 3-0 to Rangers. The return match at home to Rangers saw FC Jasque record the first Ellisian victory in the group stages thanks to goals from Cunliffe and Patrick Cregg which gave them a 2-0 win. They then lost 3-0 to Atletico Madrid and 1-0 to Man Utd to record a last place finish having achieved 3 points in the group stages.

Conclusion

2010/11 will be remembered as the year when Ellisian teams really progressed in Europe and raised the profile of Ellisian football tremendously. FC Jasque’s accomplishment of knocking out Fenerbahce and Slavia Prague to reach the Group Stages will have done wonders for Ellisian football and the victory in the group stages bodes well for the future. Meanwhile, Nodnol’s fabulous victory over Hertha Berlin was a wonderful achievement which unfortunately did not translate into a victory over Besiktas, however, Port Nelson’s victories over Heerenveen and Besiktas were magnificent for Ellisian football and advancing to the group stages of the UEFA Cup has also done wonders for Ellisia. We can expect the ranking of Ellisian football to really shoot up next year thanks to these great results, hopefully these can be emulated next year.

Isoeph Cup

The teams that advanced through the group stages this season were: Argyres, Lantisia, Bozarburg, AFC Posul, Stravchine Balanvinski, Nodnol City, FC Jasque, and Port Nelson. The quarter finals saw Lantisia beat Stravchine Balanvinski while AFC Posul beat Bozarburg in a 5 goal thriller that finished 3-2. Nodnol City beat Argyres 2-0 at Red Herodotus Stadium while Jasque fell at Bastiat Crescent to a 2-1 loss against the Port Nelson Admirals.

Extra time was required in the semi-finals between Port Nelson and AFC Posul in a derby clash in the capital city where Peter Winn won it for Port Nelson with a goal nine minutes from the end of extra time to give Port Nelson a 3-2 victory. The other semi-final saw Nodnol defeat Lantisia 2-0 at The Temple.

The final therefore saw Port Nelson face Nodnol City in a clash of bitter rivals from the two biggest cities in Ellisia. George Bull put the Admirals one goal up within a quarter of an hour but Peter Thompson equalised immediately for Nodnol City. It remained level until 20 minutes from the end when Alton Thelwell scored to make it 2-1 to Nodnol City and give them their first victory in the Isoeph Cup.

Emperors Cup

The quarter finals of the Emperors Cup saw Port Nelson beat Grimme City 3-1 while Linfield despatched of Spark Rovers 2-1. Extra time was needed for United Commonwealth Club to defeat Diamond Heights 3-1 and penalties were needed for Wegason to beat Faradafry after one all draw.

The semi-finals were next and saw Port Nelson record a 3-0 victory over Linfield while Second Division UCC beat Wegason 2-1. This meant that UCC would be the first Second Division club in the Final of the Emperors Cup. They took the lead in the final through Marc Smith, but Quentin Daniels cancelled this out just after half-time. It needed extra time to separate the two sides and hand Port Nelson their second successive Emperors Cup victory as Paul Reid scored in 115th minute.

The Ellisian National team

It was back to usual form for Ellisa as they lost 3-1 to Wales before beating Armenia 3-0 away from home. A 1-0 victory over Moldova was followed by a 2-0 loss at home to Holland. Friendly losses to Switzerland (3-0) and Uruguay (1-0) were followed by a 3-0 loss to Sweden in the European Championship qualifying.

Ellisian First Division

The beginning of the season failed to see any teams separate themselves from the pack with Nodnol, Grimme Athletic, Faradafry, and Bozarburg leading the table come Christmas. Port Nelson, hindered by their busy European schedule and Isoeph Cup run had played four or five games less than every other team in the league and were sitting in 10th with an unbeaten record after 8 games, 4 wins and 4 draws. Their average points would see them joint first had they played the same amount of games. Shasarazade were sitting bottom of the table, a predicament that saw Gabriel Indarion, long serving manager, sacked.

The table on the 31st of December 2009 looked like this:

| Pos | Inf | Team | | Pld | Won | Drn | Lst | For | Ag | G.D. | Pts |

| ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

As the season progressed Nodnol and Bozarburg started to slip away from the leaders while Argyres, Faradafry and Grimme Athletic pushed on. Port Nelson, despite having played a lot less games than every other team in the league, were lying in 4th place only four points off of Argyres with five games in hand. The table would probably not have looked so close had Port Nelson played as many games as the others. Their 11 games in 2011 had seen them record 8 victories and 3 losses and shoot up the table. In the meantime Shasarazade had dragged themselves off the bottom having recorded 4 wins and 2 draws in 13 games to move onto 21 points. They were a comfortable seven points clear of Grimme City who had achieved just a single point in 2011, their last victory was a 3-1 victory over Whitefield United on the 29th December. An eight game losing streak was followed by a draw against AFC Posul, who had been progressively slipping down the league table, and then another seven straight losses.

Due to Port Nelson playing fewer games than anyone else, there run in saw them play two games a week for most of the rest of the season while the other teams around them were playing just the one game a week unless they were still in the Emperors Cup. The fixture congestion saw them lose to Argyres 3-0 after their victory over Linfield in the Emperors Cup semi-final, they then drew with San Angel to give their challengers some hope.

With five games to go in the season Faradafry and Argyres were both on 45 points with Bozarburg and Grimme Athletic on 42 points behind them. This was before the 19th of March, at the same time Port Nelson had 9 games to play and were on 41 points in 5th place. They proceeded to draw 1-1 with Nodnol City before their challengers Argyres beat them 3-0 as stated above. A draw against San Angel saw them on 43 points with 6 games to play, while Argyres had amassed 51 points thanks to victories over AFC Posul and their victory over the Admirals but a defeat to Diamond Heights 1-0 cost them dearly. Faradafry had drawn and then beaten Stravchine Balanvinski before losing 3-0 to Shasarazade to put them on 49 points. In the midweek game on the 13th of April Port Nelson defeated Diamond Heights 1-0 to move them closer to the leaders.

This meant that at the 14th of April, the top five looked like this:

Pos Team Pld Pts

1 Argyres 28 51

2 Faradafry 28 49

3 Grimme Ath 28 48

4 Bozarburg 27 48

5 Port Nelson 25 46

The weekend of the 16th of April would be crucial in deciding the title as the Port Nelson Admirals defeated Grimme City 1-0, Faradafry did all they could do by beating FC Jasque 2-1. There was a top of the table clash this weekend however as Wien Park saw Grimme Athletic battle Argyres in a match that ended 2-1 to the home team, a crushing blow to the title aspirations of the Myrmidons. Bozarburg seemed to crash out of the title race with a 2-1 loss to Diamond Heights. The midweek games after this weekend saw Port Nelson record a much needed 1-0 victory away from home at Diamond Heights.

The aspirations of the Myrmidons and Faradafry were handed lifelines when Balanvinski crushed the Admirals 5-1 at Varburn Stadium and then the Admirals drew 0-0 with Bozarburg. The table going into the final weekend on the 30th of April looked like this at the top:

Pos Team Pld Pts

1 Port Nelson 29 53

2 Faradafry 29 52

3 Argyres 29 51

4 Grimme Ath 29 51

5 Bozarburg 29 49

The final weekend of the season needed a slip up by the Admirals for the title to go anywhere but Port Nelson. The Admirals were facing Whitefield United, while the contenders were involved in top of the table clashes, with Faradafry facing Argyres at Herodotus Stadium and Grimme Athletic facing Bozarburg at Red Lion Park. Argyres did what they had to do, winning 3-1 at home, guaranteeing themselves a UEFA Cup spot unless Grimme Athletic annihilated Bozarburg, which they didn’t drawing 1-1. The fate of the title rested on the game at Trafalgar Park where only 49,212 fans saw Port Nelson defeat Whitefield United 3-1 to claim their first Ellisian First Division title and grab an all important Champions League spot.

Relegation was assured for Grimme thanks to their winless streak that stretched until the last day of the season when they beat Balanvinski. San Angel were condemned to a relegation play-off as Wegason beat Lantisia in their penultimate game to assure themselves of safety while Shasarazade beat Nodnol City to guarantee their safety in their penultimate game as well. It was just as well as they lost their final game to San Angel on, they’d gone on a 4 game winning streak before the match against San Angel to lift themselves out of trouble after moving onto their third manager of the season.

Ellisian Second Division

The Second Division saw Estaag United become the unlikely team to be promoted, winning the league by a comfortable five points from the big guns of United Commonwealth Club. Rayleigh were there again, just missing out on a top two finish. Newtonia, relegated last season were struggling all season in the Second Division and really should of done better, thankfully avoiding relegation to the Third Division.

UCC’s 2nd place saw them face San Angel whom they defeated 2-1 away from home and 1-0 at home to gain promotion back to the First Division.

FC Jasque love an up and down! winner, then mid table, winner, now 10th! At least we will win next year.

I reckon we concentrated too much on Europe, and how weel we did! Group stages, and creating Elisian history...again.

By far the greatest team in Elisian history

Predictions and Comments

A fantastic season for Ellisian football, slightly spoiled by the massive interruption that the UEFA Cup and other cup competitions had on Port Nelson’s season. Still, group stages of both the Champions League and UEFA Cup show great progress for this emerging nation and the big clubs. FC Jasque’s Champions League run distracted them from the title race as they never really got going. Port Nelson never let their European run hinder them as they started well and had a great season, doing well in the UEFA Cup, reaching the final of the Isoeph Cup at the beginning of the season as well as winning the double, the Emperors Cup and the League Title.

Nodnol City did well to grab some silverware but will be disappointed with their league form and will probably look to improve that next season. UCC will be delighted to be back in the top division and even more delighted to be in the UEFA Cup thanks to their great Emperors Cup run that saw them reach the final only to lose to the unstoppable Admirals. Have we ever seen a worse performance in the league than Grimme City’s? Looking pretty good after 13 games with 13 points, clear of the relegation zone they then went on a 16 game losing streak before winning on the final day. Their tally of 17 points is easily the fewest ever in the First Division.

Predictions:

I must back my team, Wegason Dragons to stay up despite the media’s predictions.

United Commonwealth Club to stay up as well.

Grimme Athletic to be there, or thereabouts.

San Angel to come straight back up.

Rayleigh to do well again.

FC Jasque to come storming back with a top four finish and possibly a cup final performance.

Port Nelson to reach the Group Stages of the Champions League.

Title race between Port Nelson, Argyres, and FC Jasque.

I just created all these clubs and created the cities and towns and stuck them in Northern Ireland. I renamed the competitions, rearranged which teams are in which leagues and left the nation name as Northern Ireland but in my updates using Ellisia.

rtik-1-one, you're the first one to notice that icon_wink.gif Or at least the first one to notice it and then post that they've noticed it.

Great idea and experiment, by the way. icon14.gif

I'll look them up again after my next seasonal update and see if we have any stars coming through, and give updates on the three I previously mentioned to see how they're doing.

Put the image you want in my documents/sports interative/football manager 2008/graphics

Create a config file or add the image onto a config file.

Set it to nation etc, get the unique id for northern ireland and that works.

More advice in the graphics section of this forum. The graphics for this will be released with the database when I have it finished.

Didn't you have to change all the Northern Irish players? Or i take it you just re-named C.I.S Elisa and upped there reputation and voila.

This is fabulous. Gonna take a little while to get a feel for who's who and which team is the plucky nearly man/giant/perennial loser, so I'm looking forward to the journey.

And hopefully I'll know who's who fast enough to be able to make predictions and stuff before you think no-ones watching.

I didn't rename any Northern Ireland players, just created a load. I didn't up the reputation of the country, just changed the rep of the competitions and upped the league standard.

It will continue, I've just been very, very busy lately due to work, Christmas, and family engagements. I should have an update for Monday.

Must apologise for the lack of updates. I experienced a system corruption which meant I had to recover my computer. I did manage to save my FM games, so, once I have my computer sorted, and some free time (this weekend hopefully) I should be able to get an update out. The database has been set back though due to the system corruption.

Excellent thread icon14.gif

Shame about the corruption though icon13.gif

Anyway, If you have to re-do the database then maybe you should chat me to James.Clench (who gave some advice on page 1) as he could help you make it a proper country and nothing related to N.Ireland.

Surely creating the non-league teams is really important too, you don't want those Irish teams coming through as in ruins the realism in my opinion.

Other than that, it's a cracker!

Interesting. I've been trying to do a similar thing and create a new nation. I've league swapped the Dutch League into one of the extinct nations and made Holland extinct in its place, but I'm having trouble getting the leagues to appear in the game. It's a bit disappointing really because it took ages to create all the teams as well and I haven't even put in any players yet. I've done other league swaps and they've all worked fine, so I'm not sure what's up this time, perhaps something to do with it being an ex-extinct nation? Anyway, I'm probably better off posting in the Editing Forums but I thought I may as well post here as it is a similar thing and there are people who seem to know what they're doing offering help.

KUTGW!

I'm doin' my own experiment, not as good as this one, but interesting none the less. I'm so fed up with Lyon's dominance in the French league that I'm swapping Lyon around with French National League team AC Arles. I'm taking away a lot of the money from Lyon and add to AC Arles and that's it.

I'm going to see how long it takes for Lyon to get back up, if they have to sell players (Fred) and if AC Arles could stay up.

UP THE ADMIRALS!

::UPDATE::

From 25th December:

AC Arles - French Ligue 1: 20th with 7 pts, 6 pts behind 19th place Lorient. In Champions League, bottom of group with 2 points. 2 draws and 4 losses.

Lyon- 1st in CFA Group B, 47 pts. from 15 games. equal with... SOCHAUX RESERVES

Despite 15 million to spend, but with limited resources elsewhere, AC Arcles spent 26k on 6 players.

Lyon didn't buy or sell any players so really should have won every game in their league.
