It's difficult to avoid comparing any AI experiments with Kipfizh's legendary Bandits experiment, but this is the first one I've seen that measures up to it, great work Wegason! And a remarkable amount of database-editing required, congrats.

Have to agree with Sam Reid - I'm a Spurs fan and Shasarazade are my team in this one!

And also agree with Evertonbloke about the Red Dwarf episode - Backwards, IIRC, with Eht Gnizama Esrever Srehtorb!

i have a few questions:

1. how did u set up the borderds of your state?

2. how did u pick locations for you cities?

3. do i need to place every club to be in my new country or they can be based in their old cities in other country.

4. had you changed ID of N.Ireland?

You cannot create a new nation as such, instead you have to edit an already active one for instance Northern Ireland. I could explain more, but the easiestthing would be for me to direct you to the Editors Hideaway forum, they have all that stuff in there.

have you made more clubs than what the league allows. eg: in the prem there are 20 teams, if you have created 19 or less, or 21 or more, it will not work. there probably may be other things to take in to account as well, but iv never recreated a whole 'new nation' or stuff on this scale, only small scale.

Don't pick Finland, you need to create 128 active teams bacause they have this amount in the first round of the Finnish F.A. Cup

BIRTH OF A NEW NATION

Season 2011/2012

Transfer Market

The trend from last summer continued into the summer of 2011/12 as once again Championship and lower Premier Division calibre players were purchased in bulk by EFD clubs. Lantisia, after a season that faded down the stretch, seemed determined to improve as manager Jason Striez spent big, signing three players from Championship clubs for sums totalling £5 million. There were quite a few interclub transfers amongst Ellisians clubs as teams sought to improve for the upcoming season.

European Competitions

Ellisia’s entrants into the Champions League were League Champions, Port Nelson, who started their campaign in the first qualifying round against Murata of San Marino, a disappointing 0-0 draw away from home was followed by a crushing 4-1 victory at Trafalgar Park with 21 year old Johnny Russell striking a hat trick. The second qualifying round saw the Ellisian champions drawn against FBK Kaunas from Lithuania, Port Nelson against started poorly with a 0-1 loss away from home setting up a tense second leg at Trafalgar Park. A tense goalless game for the first seventy five minutes, it was Russell who popped up in the 77th minute to give the Admirals the lead. The aggregate score was now 1-1 and if they held on it would be extra time, but that was not to be as Velkutis scored three minutes from time to put FBK Kaunas through and send Port Nelson crashing out, an extremely disappointing result which meant they wouldn’t even get UEFA Cup football.

Ellisia’s representatives in the UEFA Cup were two fierce rivals, the Argyres Myrmidons, and the United Commonwealth Club, who had done miraculously to secure UEFA Cup football while playing Second Division football the year before. They qualified via a losing appearance in the final of the Emperors Cup and secured First Division football after beating San Angel in the First Division playoff.

Argyres drew Armenian side Shirak Gyumri in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Cup with the first match at Shirak’s 5,000 capacity stadium, a big change from the 50,000 plus capacity Herodotus Stadium. Despite this, the Myrmidons secured an excellent 2-0 victory that set up nicely for the second leg. This proved to be a masterclass in finishing in front of 50,000 screaming Myrmidons fans as they put Shirak to the sword with five goals, Samaras bagging his first within a minute of the opening kickoff.

United Commonwealth Club had drawn Maltese side Valetta and the first leg at the Steward’s Centre was shown before a national television audience but unfortunately for the bosses of the television channel showing, the game was a dull 0-0 draw. Travelling to the capital of Malta to play Valetta in their 17,000 all seated Ta’ Qali stadium, the Drakes scored a crucial away goal through Cherno Samba just after halftime, despite a goal for Valetta from Gatt on the hour mark, it was UCC who advanced on the away goals rule, by the narrowest of margins.

The second qualifying round saw UCC drawn against Bulgarian side Litex, with T.V. bosses deciding to broadcast UCC’s home leg again they were glad to see a confident 2-0 victory from the Ellisian side and this result was followed by a 4-0 hammering away from home that led to UCC’s continued involvement in the UEFA Cup. Argyres on the other hand had drawn KAA Gent from Belgium, a professional reputable club worth £13 million and playing in the Jules Ottenstadion in Ghent, a 12,790 all seated stadium. Due to the nature of the opposition, being a bigger club than most, both legs were televised and despite a boring 0-0 draw in the first leg at Herodotus Stadium, a large audience tuned in to watch the Myrmidons take on Gent in Belgium. The game got off to the worst possible start for Argyres when Lacroix scored after 20 minutes for the Belgian side. It stayed this way until shortly before the half when Antonio Volpe scored a crucial away goal for the Ellisian side, together with a goal on the hour mark from Reason, Argyres were advancing to the next round of the UEFA Cup.

With both Ellisian sides through to the First Round of the UEFA Cup knowing bigger and more challenging clubs awaited them, it was no surprise to see both clubs rewarded with ties against Steaua Bucharest for UCC, and Italian side Palermo for Argyres. United Commonwealth Club played before a national television audience as they beat a strong Steaua side 1-0 in front of a capacity crowd at the Steward’s Centre. Steaua are a side that have won the European Champions Cup and won their domestic league 23 times, though not once since 2005. The Drakes travelled to Romania in balmy October knowing that scoring once in the Ghencea would mean their opponents would require three goals to win the tie. The match started terribly for UCC as Dorobantu scored twice for the Romanians within 25 minutes of the start, giving Steaua a 2-1 aggregate lead. As a dejected UCC side were about to go in 2-0 down at the half, when Husband got on the end of a Templeton cross to put it past the keeper and score a vital away goal. Templeton secured UCC’s seemed to have secured UCC’s passage with a goal ten minutes from time, giving them a 3-2 aggregate lead with two away goals. Steaua required two goals to win the tie, there was much chewing of fingernails when Rus scored for the Romanians in the 90th minute with five minutes of added time to be played by the referee. By the time the whistle was blown most UCC fans had no fingernails left to chew and the score remained the same, UCC would be playing in the group stages of the UEFA Cup.

Argyres first leg was at the Renzo Barbera in Palermo, and in a match where the Myrmidons twice took the lead and once fought back from a deficit, a thrilling six goal saw a 3-3 draw between the two evenly matched teams set up a tense return leg at Herodotus Stadium. With Palermo needing to win to advance except in the unlikely event that the game finished a 3-3 or greater draw, it was a bitter blow for the Italian side which they never recovered from when Samaras scored a goal on the half hour mark, the Italians weren’t able to respond and Argyres advanced to the group stages along with the United Commonwealth Club.

Argyres were drawn in Group C of the UEFA Cup with such storied names as Getafe, Schalke, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and CSKA Moscow. Wolves had reached the UEFA Cup through a FA Cup Final appearance the previous season as well as knocking out Portuguese side Boavista in the first round. UCC were drawn against Villareal, Portsmouth, Heerenveen and Basel in Group E of the UEFA Cup.

Argyres started off badly, losing 2-1 at home to Wolves before triumphing in the hostile atmosphere of Moscow, Russia against CSKA with a 1-0 victory. It was to be highlight of the group stages as they went down 3-0 at home to Getafe and 3-0 away to Schalke. UCC started off badly as well, losing at home to Portsmouth by two goals to one and then 1-0 away from home to Villarreal. A 2-1 victory at home to Basel the following week did however leave UCC with the prospect of advancement if they could beat Heerenveen at the Dutch side’s stadium. Unfortunately for Ellisian football, UCC could only manage a goalless draw and they failed to advance by a point.

Conclusion

They say that consistent success is the hallmark of a great club, well then, continued advancement to the later rounds of European competitions must be viewed as the hallmark of a rising nation as once again Ellisian clubs were successful in Europe, this time it was only in the UEFA Cup as Port Nelson struggled in the Champions League but with both Argyres and UCC getting through to the group stages of the UEFA Cup, knocking out big sides on their way, the future is bright and after they both recorded a victory in the groups, it surely cannot be long until a Ellisian side progresses beyond the group stage in the competition.

Isoeph Cup

Nodnol City, AFC Posul, Bozarburg, FC Jasque, Argyres, Port Nelson, Grimme Athletic and United Commonwealth Club were the eight sides to progress to the quarter finals in the Isoeph Cup with Nodnol defeating Posul 3-0 and both FC Jasque and Grimme Athletic requiring extra time to overcome Bozarburg and UCC respectively. Argyres knocked off Port Nelson to round off the teams that advanced to the semi finals.

With Grimme Athletic and FC Jasque squaring off against each other, it was no surprise that this game went to extra time after an exciting two all draw, it was Grimme Athletic who advanced though thanks to an extra time goal from Symes. The other game saw Nodnol advance through a 2-1 victory over Argyres who were in the midst of a UEFA Cup run to set up a final between 2009 league champions Grimme Athletic and the reigning Isoeph Cup champions, Nodnol City.

A showery cold game was played out and it was the Nodnol side that triumphed 2-0 to record their second successive Isoeph Cup triumph and become the first team to retain the trophy and win it for the second time.

Emperors Cup

The quarter finals of the Emperors Cup saw Port Nelson lose to Bozarburg on penalties while Balanvinski secured an extra time victory over Nodnol. FC Jasque were the victors in a nine goal thriller at Bastiat Crescent with a 6-3 victory over Shasarazade, at one stage Jasque were 5-1 up before Shasarazade pulled two goals back. Grimme Athletic knocked UCC out of the Emperors Cup, just like they did at the same stage of the Isoeph Cup, though this time they did not require extra time.

The semi-finals were next and saw FC Jasque secure a 2-1 victory over Bozarburg while Grimme Athletic continued their fine cup form by advancing to their second final of the season with a 1-0 victory over Balanvinski. Grimme Athletic kept the game against Jasque to a goalless draw at the end of 90 minutes despite the domination of FC Jasque. It all fell apart in extra time though as Jasque banged in 3 goals to record a 3-0 victory and win their first Emperors Cup.

The Ellisian National team

The 2011-12 season started well with a tight 2-2 draw with Wales followed by a 4-0 demolition of Moldova in front of 80,000 adoring fans at Trafalgar Park. Unfortunately for Ellisian fans this was followed by successive losses to Holland, Sweden, and Serbia which meant that Northern Ireland finished 5th out of 7 in their group, above Moldova and Armenia with Sweden and Holland advancing.

Friendlies saw Ellisia beat Kuwait 3-1 but lose to the USA 4-0, a 4-0 victory over Andorra has built up some confidence ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers starting in 2012-13 season, Ellisia have been drawn in a group with Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Portugal, Russia, and Scotland and will surely be hoping to finish 4th.

BIRTH OF A NEW NATION

Season 2011/2012 (continued)

Ellisian First Division

A familiar sight to Ellisian football fans was theirs at the end of the calendar year with the sight of Nodnol side FC Jasque atop the table from Port Nelson who were 3 points back having played a game more. It disguised the fact that UCC and Argyres had played just ten games each compared to the 14 or 15 games most other teams had played. UCC’s points tally of 25 from 10 matches would seem them three points clear of FC Jasque had they played 14 points and continued their points to game ratio. Argyres would be sitting midtable as opposed to 15th if they’d played more games. The story at the New Year was the remarkable progress of Shasarazade, sitting bottom at the same point last year, they were now a strong 3rd in the table.

The table on the 31st of December 2011 looked like this:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

</pre>

As the season progressed and UCC started to catch up on games played they started to climb up the table to a point where having played three games less as of 26th of March, they were four points clear of second placed FC Jasque. Port Nelson had started to stutter and sputter and had slipped to sixth place while Shasarazade maintained their strong form and were in fourth place. Argyres had still played five games less than most their rivals at this point but had moved up to 10 thanks to some impressive form, which if they had played five more games would have seen them above Port Nelson.

When Balanvinski beat UCC 2-0, followed by UCC losing 1-0 to Faradafry, it looked like their rivals would have a chance to possibly make up the ground. However FC Jasque and Port Nelson battled to a 1-1 draw and this meant that Shasarazade and Balanvinski, each recording big wins on Sat 7th April, (3-0 and 4-1), were hot on the heels of UCC. It was the Drakes bitter rivals though who aided their cause on the night UCC beat Diamond Heights as Argyres defeated Shasarazade in a seven goal thriller to record a 4-3 victory.

This meant that at the 14th of April, with most clubs having two games to play, the top six looked like this:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

Pos Team Pld Pts

1 U.C.C. 27 56

2 FC Jasque 28 50

3 Balanvinski 28 50

4 Shasarazade 28 49

5 Bozarburg 28 48

6 Port Nelson 28 46

</pre>

For anyone other than UCC to lift the title, UCC would have to lose all three of their last games while FC Jasque and Balanvinski needed to record big victories in both their games. The title race would be narrowed as on the weekend of the 14th, Balanvinski and FC Jasque squared off in a match that saw a 4-2 victory for Balanvinski, it was however over as a title race that day as UCC won 2-1 against Wegason. With Shasarazade losing 2-1 to Nodnol, Bozarburg losing 1-0 to Diamond Heights, and Port Nelson only managing a 1-1 draw against Whitefield United the race for second was wide open.

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

2 Balanvinski 29 53

3 FC Jasque 29 50

4 Shasarazade 29 49

5 Bozarburg 29 48

6 Port Nelson 29 47

</pre>

The race for Europe had positions second to sixth having the possibility of a berth in either the UEFA or Intertoto Cup’s. FC Jasque, with their superior goal difference to Balanvinski needed to win to get second as there was no guarantee of European football unless they defeated Grimme Athletic in the final of the Emperors Cup. Shasarazade needed to see off Bozarburg and Port Nelson for the Intertoto Cup place.

The last weekend saw Shasarazade travel to Bozarburg, FC Jasque face Diamond Heighs and Balanvinski travel to Whitefield United. The result in Whitefield went FC Jasque’s way as Balanvinski lost 3-0 to Whitefield but the Atoms could not capitalise and lost 1-0 at home. Shasarazade meanwhile drew 1-1 with Bozarburg preventing both Bozarburg from leapfrogging them, and Port Nelson from doing the same unless the Admirals could win 7-0, they drew 2-2 instead. With the superior goal difference of Shasrazade though, they did finish higher than FC Jasque in 3rd behind Balanvinski.

Estaag United were relegated before the final day but 15th was between three sides, Lantisia on 28 points, AFC Posul on 29, and Whitefield on 27. Lantisia would guarantee themselves safety if they could achieve a better result than either of the other two. AFC Posul needed the other sides to lose or obtain at least the same result as one of them to finish above them. Whitefield needed victory and the one of the other two not to win. Whitefield hammered second placed Balanvinski and with Lantisia drawing 2-2 with Port Nelson it meant Whitefield were safe, it meant a loss for AFC Posul to champions UCC would see them 15th but they battled to a 1-1 draw condemning Lantisia to the playoff.

The table looked like this:

| Pos   | Inf   | Team                     |       | Pld   | Won   | Drn   | Lst   | For   | Ag    | G.D.  | Pts   |

Ellisian Second Division

The Second Division saw Midchestnut United triumph while Spark Rovers secured second place with a last day victory to keep themselves above San Angel. They proceeded to defeat Lantisia over two legs in the playoff to get First Division football for the first time, a 3-2 loss at Lantisia was followed by an assured but tense 3-1 victory at home.

I'm going to see how long it takes for Lyon to get back up, if they have to sell players (Fred) and if AC Arles could stay up.

UP THE ADMIRALS!

Firstly, thanks for your support of my experiment, but in future, perhaps if you want to run an AI Experiment you do it in your own thread rather than post your results in here.

matty_8, Fudger, Truegunner, CharlieGooner, hursty, DefoesRightBoot, thanks very much for the kind words and encouragement.

Firstly, Wegason i have a huge amount of respect for you!

How long did it take you to make the entire database?

Many, many hours. I think I spent about five to six evenings and a couple of weekends (not solidly) on it, since the system corruption I am working on doing the database for the 8.02 patch and data update. One thing I have noticed is that there are less talented 'free agents' than there were in the old databases.

1. how did u set up the borderds of your state?

2. how did u pick locations for you cities?

3. do i need to place every club to be in my new country or they can be based in their old cities in other country.

4. had you changed ID of N.Ireland?

1. I didn't set up the borders of my state.

2. The locations were not set, only the type of weather, population and which country they are in was set.

3. If you're setting up a new country, it won't work, you need to use an old country and change the names while avoiding changing the three letter code and main name.

4. I did not change the ID of Northern Ireland.

elmullet23 the flag was changed using the uniqueID assigned to it and putting my own image in there for the flag.

argyle4ever, changing the name of a country can make it not appear, it is why, despite my references to Ellisia, the nation name remains Northern Ireland.

bendt-b, it is not possible at the present time.

Hi Wegason,

Good to see you back and continuing this experiment icon14.gif To date, I've been reading through but thought it was about time I posted.

I have one question: when you mention not changing the main name and three letter code, is that regarding editing a league? I ask because I made two new nations and new clubs and I changed those details without a problem (I did have a problem but that was due to me changing the continents of the countries icon_razz.gif). The main difference is that I placed my new clubs in other exisitng leagues, I didn't actually create a new league.

Anyway, KUTGW. This is a great thread! icon_biggrin.gif

When you refer to problems, do you mean with running it or the nations not appearing?

You must make sure that only the correct number of teams are in each league.

When I was referring to three letter codes, I was referring to the actual nation itself.

The problem I had was that I overwrote two nations with a small number of players (from the Carribean) and put them into South America. It ran for one season then crashed.

When I got it working, I didn't alter any leagues - I just removed a couple of teams from the Dutch leagues and put my new ones in (so it's just like Welsh teams being in the English leagues or Toronto being in MLS). I kept the nations in the Carribean too and now they work fine (and that's with three letter names and the main name changed).

I was just asking because I have an idea for creating full leagues for these nations in the future and I was wondering about potential problems. Anyway, I should be asking about it in the editors' hideaway. icon_razz.gif

I'm interested to know what you mean by overwrote, by all means ask in the editors hideaway, I pop in there from time to time to give advice and could help.

For those following this experiment, I will be looking to release the statistics followed by another update over the next week.

Predictions and Comments

The league continues to grow and the clubs that qualify for Europe continue to make headway in the European competitions. The surprise of the season was seeing newly promoted United Commonwealth Club, after two seasons outside of the top flight, win the First Division straight after their promotion, and they won it by a clear margin. Shasarazade had one of their strongest seasons while Port Nelson struggled throughout the campaign to mount a title challenge. Balanvinski were strong for the first time in a while and Wegason avoided the drop as I predicted. I thought San Angel would come straight back up but they failed, and with former First Division sides San Angel, Lantisia, Newtonia, Grimme City, and Estaag United all in the Second Division, it should be a very competitive season. Lantisia, former title challengers, were the shock team to be relegated this season.

I also stated my belief that FC Jasque would come back with a top four finish and a cup final performance, they did both which was heartening for their vast legion of fans throughout Ellisia and their growing foreign fanbase. Rayleigh never came close to a promotion challenge down in division two and it was surprising to see San Angel fail to finish inside the top two.

Predictions:

AFC Posul and Spark Rovers to get relegated

Lantisia to win the second division

FC Jasque or Port Nelson to win the First Division title

United Commonwealth Club to finish in the top six

Diamond Heights to flirt with relegation

Just read through the thread myself, It's unbelievable! It must have taken you ages, its such a fantastic idea, and a brilliant thread. I look forward to the long term, waiting for a team to win in Europe, and simply to see if all of your predictions come true. And after your finished, of course, it would be amazing to play!

For some reason, I've become a Grimme Athletic fan. Come on you Austrians! Glad to see they won the league in the second season, I became a fan of them after the first season, but since the second they havn't been amazing. They will win the league this season, you watch them icon_biggrin.gif
