Sheer Class
Well first of if your in this thread you must want a serious challenge as Pompey now are not as cash rich as they once were. Read on for all the handy bits that fellow Pompey managers will give you but to start the ball rolling heres my assessment of the situation. Portsmouth Football Club (also known as Pompey) are an English professional football club based in Portsmouth, Hampshire. The club's colours have traditionally been blue, white and red, however for the 2008/9 season they are wearing an all blue strip at home for the 110th anniversary. Club Information Name: Portsmouth Founded: 1898 Ground: Fratton Park, Portsmouth (capacity 20,600 all seated) Chairman: Sulaimen Al Fahim League: English Premier League Rivals: Southampton, Reading Training Facilities: Good training facilities Youth Facilities: Good youth facilities + academy Media Prediction: 11th Transfer Budget: £0 Affiliations: Home Farm First Team Squad The numbers in brackets are to quote the game help system "each player will receive a star rating based on their expected standard within the team. This can range from 1 to 7 stars, with 7 exceeding expectations and 1 falling well below. Youth players are compared to similar players in their own age group". GK – David James (3.5/3.5), Jamie Ashdown (2/2), Antti Niemi (2/2) DR – Steve Finnan (2.5/2.5) DL – Herman Hreidasson (2.5/2.5) DC – Younes Kaboul (3.5/3.5), Tal Ben Haim (3/3), Linvoy Primus (2.5/2.5), Marc Wilson (2/2.5) DM – Aaron Mokoena (3/3), Richard Hughes (3/3), Angelos Basinas (3/3), Hayden Mullins (2.5/2.5) MC – Papa Bouba Diop (3/3), Michael Brown (3/3), Kevin Prince-Boateng (2.5/2.5) AMR – Tommy Smith (3/3), John Utaka (2.5/2.5) AML – Nadir Belhadj (3/3), ST/FC – Kanu (2.5/2.5) Reserves Squad GK – Asmir Begovic (1.5/2.5) DC - Mike WIlliamson (1.5/1.5) MC - Gauthier Mahoto (0.5/2.5), Tom Kilbey (0.5/1.5), Matty Ritchie AMR – Gael Nlundulu (0.5/2.5) SC - Omar Koroma (1/2.5), Danny Webber (1.5/1.5) Paris Cowan-Hall (0.5/1.5), Danijel Subotic (0.5/1) Highly rated U-18 squad members GK - Liam O'Brien (0.5/1.5) MC - Florent Cuvelier (0.5/3) Players on loan MC - Hassan Yebda (Benfica) MC - Jamie O'Hara (Spurs) DR - Anthony Vanden Borre (Genoa) SC - Aruna Dindane (Lens) SC - Frederic Piquionne (Lyon) Players out on loan SC – David Nugent (Burnley) AML – Matty Ritchie (Notts County) DC – Callum Reynolds (Luton) Analysis Basically its a real struggle to survive this year. One thing to do before the game start sis swap Fahim and Faraj around as Chairman and Director and add Avram Grant as Director of Football. Also when the game starts un transfer list O'Brien and Begovic who for some reason always get listed. Other than that enjoy and good luck

Sansom
Anyone managed to get a few bargins, I got Kone from Sevilla (hasent played yet thought) for £3.6m over 48 months, sold Mullins to Ipswich for £1.9m. Also the debt got restructered but it now stands at £31m with me having to pay £9m next month (clears that part of the debt) and £252k until 2019 and £2.5m for the next 2 months then I have to repay a £31m gift loan (£171k month) until 2024 but I dont think I have to pay that back til I'm making a profit (not sure on that part) Only have 1 point from my first 3 games: drew with Bolton, lost to Chelsea and Villa. Pompeyboyz
Going to be a tough year this one. Starting with no money I sold Mullins for £2.3m and Ashdown for £800k but only got £1m to spend. With that I bought Lukovic from Udinese for £1m and then brought in Skacel, Namouchi, Van Der Meyde and Smolarek on frees. Pre-Season has been relatively easy with a tour of Slovenia and wins against Havant and Waterlooville and Black Leopards of South Africa meaning I won all games and fairly easily. August will be a tough month to start in the Prem though. Man Utd (A) Blackburn (H) Birmingham (A) Arsenal (H) Just have to see how I do.
Mike0077
Ive had a horrible time - won 1 - drawn 5, lost 7 - the board is threateneing to sack me after every game, now ive got arsenal & man u up next ill just get my coat now. I brought in for free Skacel, Dietmar hammon, Van Der Meyde and Smolarek, johan vogal, mark viduka, patrick viera who have all been pretty bad to be honest. Only Viera and Dietmar hammon have been 1/2 decent, Viduka has been extremely woeful. But through all the gloom Libor Sionko has shone, i brought him in for $140k and hes been in the prem team of the week many times and scored three 8 ratings. He doesn't look like much but he sure does a job at a crap team! No money, loosing to everyong, tried many tactics. This is going to be one hell of a challenge! Anyone got any tips for me? Welshace
dont bring in so many people.... it just disrupts the team even more.. the backbone of the team is fine.. what with james in goal , kaboul and ben haim in defence, o'hara and belhadj are good mids .. all you really need is a decent striker and you can easily stay in the prem and possibly mid table... id play narrow without wingers , play direct.. and dont expect miracles... Pompeyboyz
August update: Sold Marc Wilson for £1m to Notts Forest and Younas Kaboul to Stoke for £7.25m Bought in Krivets from BATE for £750k and Ruud Van Nistlerooy on free (had to move all transfer funds to wages to allow enough to sign him) Drawn with Coventry(a) in League Cup. First match against Man Utd I lost 2-0 but it was a good battling performance let down by a single defensive error by Jamie O'Hara to let in Vucinic, as the other goal was a 25 yard screamer from Rio Ferdinand that I had no complaints about. Next up was Blackburn at home. I fell behind early to a poor corner goal but struck back almost straight away with a cracking goal from Boateng. The rest of the game was fairly uninspiring with a few chances but it finished 1-1. The next game was Birmingahm away and the less said about this the better. A 4-0 drubbing was unpinned with a shocking goalkeeping display from Asmir Begovic (Thankfully David James was ready for a retrun from injury the next game). After the awful disply against Birmingham it was welcome relief for an easier League Cup game away to Coventry. Despite being a league below us Coventry were no pushovers and took the game to extra time after a fairly entertaining 0-0 in normal time. An inspired change of tactic from 1 up front to 2 and bringing on Tommy Smith to fill the gap was what made the difference. Smith scored 2 crucial goals without reply to ease any worries and give me my first competitive win of the season. It was back to the grind though for the next league game as the visit of Arsenal was going to bea test of character. I stayed loyal to my initial tactical choice of 1 up front but gave Smith a start. After 30 minutes I was 3-0 down and it was a woeful performance. The half time team talk was a barrage of anger and I reverted to the 2 up front that worked against Coventry giving me the chance to blood Van Nistlerooy even thgouh not fully fit. It was an instant impact as after only 4 minutes of the second half we had a goal back and it was though Van Nistlerooy. For much of the second half Arsenal never got out of thier half and the pressure finally paid of when Ben Haim scored from a corner. Unfortunately we were unable to get the third goal but I was happy with the fightback. Although I have yet to win in the league and only have 1 point coming out of the first month there are positives to be seen from it.
Pompeyboyz
September update: Sold Jamie Ashdown for 800k and sent Kanu out on loan with a fee of 100k Bought in Juliano Belletti from Chelsea for £750k First game of the month saw an away trip to wigan where an early Van Nistlerooy penalty put us in a good position but a late equaliser meant that first win was eluding me. Next up came the visit of Stoke who were riding high and looking good. When on loan Degen put Stoke 1 up it look like a similar story but Boateng and Van Nistlerooy goals either side of half time meant it was 3 points for Pompey. West Ham was the venue for the next game and Boateng showed great poise to score the only goal and give me my second league win Feeling on a crest of a wave I was looking forward to the trip to Bolton feeling confident of progressing in the League Cup. A Kevin Davies double and a late injury time score for Riga meant I was 3-0 down at half time......unlike Arsenal i just let the team go out and said nothing. Boateng got one back shortly before suffering a bad injury. That was all she wrote though. A 3-1 defeat and the Carling Cup over for another year. My final game was against wolves at Fratton Park and there was a controversial penalty awarded after Mokoena was adjudged to have fouled Doyle in the area. Milijas converted. In the second half Van Nistlerooy continued to earn his extravagant wage with a sweetly struck 20 yard volley to seal a draw. A better second month with the team starting to gel and play better. How crucial Boateng's 2-3 months out will remain to be seen as he was on a hot streak with goals. And as a nice top off I came second in the manager of the month awards
Standard liege!
Why loan Kanu out? Great signing is RVN! Also Belletti is also a solid signing. Decent win against stoke Bad news for Boateng I want to start as Pompey on the demo, but might wait to the full release. With having Smith, Dindane(although only played a couple of reserve games and brief sub appearances), Webber, Picquionne, Utaka and RVN someone had to make way and Kanu was the one. I am hoping Boateng won't be missed too much as I just had to move Krivets to his spot and it means I can play Yebda more.

Pompeyboyz
Are you guys trying just one tactic to fit all??? You need to find a common ground tactic and work out from there. jordanswinburn
Nobody knows what this Al-Faraj guy is going to do tbh. Little is known about him, but he is known to have a vast personal wealth! I kept the debts on, but put the balance up. And I didn't know about the transfer ban until after I did the editing lol Either way, he'll probs save Pompey and get them some good players, sort of like a Mini-Man City. Paul Hart was going to get a hefty budget before the ban was in place anyway. Either way, I did it lol

Why would you give us more money, when we're in debt? don't have transfer money? (hence our bargain bin buys). Especially that much money! What are you people doing! download the editor, i gave myself 100m to spend
jordanswinburn
And to top it off.. We have a Transfer Embargo! If that's the case, what about Chelsea. They have a transfer ban, but on the game it isn't instant. You could say the same about many things. Like the fact you have all the players at the start instead of the date they come in. Would you say the same about Carson Yeung at Birmingham. Promised McLeish 80m in January, does that mean they shouldn't have that either?
Ty
Yeah, when it happends.. then edit. (or might even be in next patch, who knows). If you also remember, Al-Fahim said the exact same thing.. (we was going to get a big budget, new stadium, new training).. We all got excited for that, and he only turned out to have no money! No-one knows anything about Al-Faraj, It might happen again, we haven't been given any money at the moment. Come on people, keep the games realistic. Ty
download the editor, i gave myself 100m to spend Okay that unnecessary. Totally ruins any sort of realism the game has had.
