vandamme22
hi I try to simulate a quick direct play with man city, but its a mission impossible in this game so far. I wanna play like real madrid or dortmund, not absolutely a counter football but with quick and direct play to come to the front. Shouldn't be a passiv defending, more a aggressiv pressing like atletico. Here are some details about the tactical set up: For your record I play FM since the CM series and read all the key guides about this game, but in this save without success. Here is my overall tactic which I use at home and sometimes away games against weaker opponents: This is my away tactic against stronger opponents: Some away results with the away tactic: The next bad result will be my end. I am struggling in away games. My defence isn't really good. Please give me some advices for this tactic. I think it should be possible the have success with a direct and quick play. I don't wanna use a possession playstyle. thx
llama3
Man City can play a quick transition, but your team looks a bit static and predictable. Your right hand side has very little movement, no great amount of runs or overlaps. Your left side looks a bit better. You are playing Dzeko as an AF - he is not renowned for pace particularly, but he has great height and strength, he should be trying to link play up. Also David Silva is wasted as an AM(S) - read the description of the role and duty again - you are asking him to help out defensively! He will be better as a playmaker. Being an AP does not mean he will make your possession orientated, as your team's high tempo and direct style should still influence your team sufficiently. In your away tactic you ask your team to hassle, yet you have a counter strategy. They are generally illogical - sometimes you can get a hybrid system to work, but that formation is not built to sit deep then counter as the wide men are high up the field and there are no DM's. I am guessing your very aggressive ball-winning approach is causing you a lot of problems. You can't just hassle every opponent you play, sometimes you need to be more cautious. Which role combination would you use for the right side? Normally I use Agüero as a AF, but he is injured. I still wanna use my lone forward in a attack duty, thats the reason. The role for silva was exactly my thought. I don't wanna use a playmaker role in a direct play style and wanted to give him a support role and that was the only suitable role. Will change. You ve been right, I have to take a more cautious approach for the away games. The idea was to play counter with a aggressive defending, to win the ball quickly and play fast forward. What TI's would you use for this formation and playing style?
Jean0987654321
I would rather make Silva either an Enganche or Shadow Striker. Fernandinho should be a DLP and Milner should be a BBM
somebodyelse
where is yaya toure?
Mitja
in FM you need high mentality tactics to recreate direct style. a bit of a mess, but it's always been like that. low mentality = posessional, high mentality = direct football. much easier to succed with posessional. vandamme22
I would rather make Silva either an Enganche or Shadow Striker. Fernandinho should be a DLP and Milner should be a BBM I think Enganche is more a role for possession football. Shadow Striker could be a option, have to check his physical stats. I use very fluid and don't wanna use many specialists roles.
vandamme22
where is yaya toure? Toure is also injured. I use him as a BBM.

High mentality means Overload, Attack or Control strategy? But I wanna succed with a direct playing style not possession, who many of the community members do. You don't need a higher mentality structure at all. This season's Madrid, you are looking for fast breaks from a low block position. I would go for Rigid/Balanced, Counter, Drop deeper, Higher Tempo, More direct passing. Then its about working in the right roles, depending on which formation you choose. Doesn't counter already have a deeper d line, direct passing and high tempo? Would these TIs help the counter tactic even more?
RTHerringbone
Doesn't counter already have a deeper d line, direct passing and high tempo? Would these TIs help the counter tactic even more? Nope. It's deep, but the passing structures are that Defend Duties pass Direct(ly) and the Attack Duties pass Shorter. Tempo is low.
Double0Seven
So if the defenders pass direct and you ask them to pass more direct would they just pass over the midfield most of the times?
RTHerringbone
So if the defenders pass direct and you ask them to pass more direct would they just pass over the midfield most of the times? Not necessarily. Direct means faster, not just longer.
