  1. Dribble less+ higher tempo might be too demanding and sterile that's my experience at least. I'd use dribble less only against teams who defend deep. I'm not a fan of how football looks on higher mentalities without playing with dribble less simply because wide players are able to dribble and gain space too easily. At home against some teams you might pull it off. I really like the combo of balanced mentality + much shorter passing + slightly higher tempo. Without DL.
  2. 433 is quite defensive formation it's really hard to get it to work well. It can be sterile in attack due to MCs behaviour. And it's hard to apply pressure against teams who play with DM or MCd which means almost all teams. You can play 4231 like 433 without having to deal with these two issues. That being said Real rules world on my save with fluid tiki-taka very similar to yours but with support duty MC instead of attack duty.
  3. Because they were so much better than all other at that age. And then naturally they had potential which they managed to achieve. In FM terms their starting CA was exceptional and that's what separated them not fixed PA which should be universal not fixed. All players at same age can theoretically improve by same margin, of course with many limiting factors determining it's success.
  4. I'm not sure if I understand you well but the only time I would want extra man protecting two centre backs is against two strikers. Attack duty AM or SS can count as second centre forward. So you want your back 3 against their two centre forwards. If they are using AMs or playmaker then the other combination might work better. If it doesn't just flip your centre midfielders. Anyway I agree with you this thing is very important and just flipping MCs can do wonders.
  5. Defensive shift doesn't occur naturally. What's you want is your AMC tracking back into side of opposition DLPd which means that your MCd must also be on DLPd side if you know what I mean. It's simple. Then your AMC is directly responsible for dlp, your support duty MC for their support duty MC and your MCd for their AMC.
  6. Underlap instruction will increase the likelihood of your widest player to look for pass and it works nice with WBIB.
  7. Lower mentality will make you play little more cautious in general and keeping possession much easier. But on standard or lower tempo there won't be much going on and that's where high tempo kicks in. With right players it will produce football which creates nice pressure. But of course it comes with reduced possession stats especially against equal teams. One thing I would turn off in your tactics is hold shape. Let players decide to counter or not.
  8. Play the same tactic on lower mentality balanced or cautious. Also higher tempo will put your opponent under more pressure.
  9. Having plenty of experience with dribble less and I'm pretty sure it will only make things worse. Lower mentality, shorter passing, lower tempo, underlaps or overlaps might help a little but I think wide players generally still run with ball a little too much and are too selfish.
  10. Yes him and your number 16. It looks like Christensen was free free for quite some time. Poor defending or tiredness but it happens unfortunately.
  11. You are playing already narrow formation even narrower in such congested space it's no wonder your central midfielders don't provide more. Nature of your formation is it needs more width. I would expect more problems next season when teams start playing more defensive against you.
  12. Play them as IFs or IWs. Dribble less, WBIB + underlap will help a little too.
  13. It's much more improved especially on lower mentalities interplay on the flanks is quite good. On higher mentalities blocking happens more. I don't know why.
  14. That's because all other things equal with more attacking mentality style is counter attacking and with more defensive it's safer and more possessional. Quite the opposite to what you would expect. It has always been like that unfortunately.
  15. Since you are increasing the risk you would also want few more attacking duties to create overloads I guess.
  16. Have in mind 433 isn't really attacking formation I would try to have plan b here. I would definitely change DLFs to DLFa or something even more goal scoring. Short passing game is very tricky with 433 you should try to play with more risk. Since you are using IWB you could easily play wider. Pass into space, counter, more expressive or underlaps are all good options I believe. This is my personal preference but I don't like positive mentality. Now I use balanced instead and I really like how it plays and attacking if things don't go well. Also I use dribble less TI if playing short passing game. But I admit I'm also having issues with chance creation and scoring goals (not with results though) and I was trying to figure out how AI manages to get so many chances and most importantly I think they use more tempo and width than us. Low tempo play on positive mentality is not enough with short passing that's for sure. More risk is needed.
  17. I don't think wingers width is a big deal if you are playing wide yeah they will move inside too early but there are more important things that stop FM being able to replicate real tactics. There's very little consistency with tactics you will dominate possession in one game with 700 passes and in next game you will be totally outpassed just because ai played with different mentality/passing/tempo combination. It's easier to play and dominate possession away against Liverpool than at home vs team that playes short passing defensive style. It's unbelievable how good these teams keep possession finishing match with 90 percent passing rate. This wasn't the case in older games at least it wasn't so extreme. Or for example I had no idea wingers will cut inside beautifully on balanced mentality and they will do it all the time play on positive and it's goodbye cutting in.
  18. I agree and for my liking all wide roles dribble too much. There should be much fewer roles with hardcoded dribbling especially support duty roles. Football is not played that way. It would be big step forward for the game. Wide players are still too impatient but I think the ME is heading in that direction.
  19. Thank you again your posts really opened my eyes. Wide width looks to be crucial for opening channels and bringing inside forwards into play. New dimension opened for me. Of course crossing works better too. Thanks.
  20. APs for Messi? I'd play him as TQ on the right and build tactics around him. 433 for positive and 4231 for attacking tactics.
  21. There is another thing which wasn't mentioned and it affects and increases crossing numbers a lot. Passing numbers. Passing percentages are too high and passing attempts can be really way too low. From my experience and from what I could gather from ai vs ai games which is more important in a game like FM for the sake of realism very high tempo play is "the only way to go". While I agree modern football is all about tempo it is poorly presented currently. You might easily find there are sometimes even 50 percent less passing attempts than expected. Football looks a little like hockey where there's one player who brings the ball into opposition third and tries to hold it up while others follow. This looks weird and in real football it doesn't work like that too often. That's how hockey basketball handball are played but not football. Also too much running with ball happens when playing with high tempo. Shouldn't high tempo and short passing mean quick one touch football? Usually ball gets channeled down the flanks and fullbacks start doing their thing. Maybe because they are instructed to do so? They behave like they are all Messi or Adama Traore. Compared to real football they should provide width passing options and feed more creative players around them. Only CWB with attack duty should behave as attacking like any fullback currently does. There's some progress being made it's better than it used to be bu still not good. Same goes for all wide players they dribble too much. On mentalities higher than balanced football is unwatchable without dribble less it doesn't look like football imho. Passing numbers are prove. On other hand lower tempo and dribble less will get these numbers to what is expected but nowhere to chance creation. Problem is there are far more football styles in FM than there are in real football. With this I mean mentality/passing style/tempo combinations. Difference is too big in terms of how football looks and again passing numbers are providing prove for what I'm saying. For example if we compare Liverpool with City they play two totally different attacking styles in FM while passing numbers and possession stats look very similar irl. That's why I said there are more football styles in FM than irl. It's far from balanced currently...
  22. Can you explain a little more. I find with lower tempo play too sterilne and with more width fullbacks become too involved which leads to milion blocked crosses and corners. I know lower mentality, underlaps and cross less helps a little but otherwise I am clueless about low tempo wide width combination and would love to hear your thoughts.
  23. I dont think dribling or to put it better running with ball is underpowered. Players are able to explore space on flanks so easily dribbling down the line seems piece of cake no metter the players quality even for players playing on opposite side of their weaker foot. On the other hand cutting in happens far too rarely. Then there is big problem how fullbacks defend they retreat back to defensive strata and almost never close down on wingers. Also pressing in general hasnt been imoroved much. Players waiting until ball gets to opponent before engaging is still there unfortunatly as well as players retrearing instead of staying close to opponent thing. All this leads play to be chanelled down the flanks so its no wonder how many blocked crosses happen. For the same reasons any team playing short passing can finish games with 90 percent passing rate.
