Carambau
Joe Baxter is back. We are in beautiful France. Toulouse in the south-west of the country. Joe Baxter, the south-african Football Manager is going to take over the helm at local club Toulouse FC. The club has won exactly ZERO trophies since it has been founded (Ok, the french 2nd division was one 2 times, but does that count as silverware?) This is reflected in the pre-season odds. The board is aware of that and expects the club to battle bravely against relegation. Sounds managable. But here comes the twist: Spoiler Edited August 3, 2019 by Carambau

Carambau
Season 2018/2019 First Team Squad Goalkeepers There´s no big competition here. Reynet is our number one. Goikochea will get some cup games. Vidal is the backup of the backup. Defenders Julien is our leader here. He will organize our defence. Shoji will most probably feature beside him. Sylla and Moubandje will fight for the left defender spot, while Moreira has no big competition in Amian on the right, because the latter is more a central defender. Midfielders We got a lot of options in midfield. Gradel is one of the top wing men, but also Durmaz, Dossevi and Mubele will have a say. Englishman Bostock will likely be one of the central midfielders to feature, with Sangaré and Cahuzac beside him. Youngsters Zobo and Taoui are there to learn from the seniors. Strikers Jean will start the season as striker number one. Sanogo and Iseka can replace him if necessary. Key Players We have a solid goalkeeper who can read the game as well. The tower in our defence. He might not be the quickest, but he is a man mountain. And he is our captain. Our flash on the wing. Once he accelerates, few can keep up with him. Tactics We aim to counter, with the wings supporting the lone striker up front. Edited May 22, 2019 by Carambau
Carambau
Season 2018/2019 August 2018 Pre-Season Friendlies Well I did not expect us to win every game but we did. Ok, it was mostly minor opposition but beating Dynamo Kiev should count as something. All in all, it was a perfect pre-season result-wise. Let´s hope to carry that form into the new season. Matchday 1 What is going on here? We played a perfect match, OM were abysmal, but still... 4-0 is a message! Gradel showed his class and the OM defence just couldnt cope with him. In the end it´s a fantastic start into the season for us. Matchday 2 Another great performance against a team that is expected to finish higher than us. An early goal and a late goal seal our deserved victory. And more importantly, it was the Garonne Derby. Our fans are more than happy about that! Matchday 3 We had to work hard to secure this victory at home. Nimes were tough but shortly before the break we scored the only goal. Ligue 1 Table We´re up there with the big boys! A great and unexpected start to the season sees us occupying 3rd place after 3 games. Fixtures recap Edited May 22, 2019 by Carambau
Carambau
Season 2018/2019 September 2018 Matchday 4 Ok, Guingamp are not one of the contenders, but scoring 5 away is quite something. The match was over at half time already. Matchday 5 Pure Magic. I still don´t believe it was that easy against them. Again, it was over at half time. Matchday 6 Well it HAD to happen some time and I am glad it did so we come back to earth finally. But it didn´t have to happen against minnows Angers... Matchday 7 We are back to our winning ways against a weak St. Etienne team, and it was a weak match as well. Honestly, they didn´t do much and we scored when we had the opportunity. Which was 2 times in the match. Matchday 8 Our counter attacking game paid off in the end. Rennes could only score 2 consolation goals when we relaxed after our third goal and so we got another victory. Ligue 1 Table We are still up there! This season starts off like a miracle. Fixtures recap Cup Draw We will play 2nd division Lorient in the Coupe de la ligue 3rd round. News I still hope we can bring him back to the club one day... Carambau
Season 2018/2019 October 2018 Matchday 9 A real fight against a strong Nice team. They tried to hack us down but we prevailed at the end. A very nice win. Matchday 10 Nantes are bottom of the league, but those matches are the most dangerous. In the end concentration was key and we went home victorious. Matchday 11 We have to thank our defence this time. Montpellier were very close to scoring in the first minutes, but we were able to weather that storm. In the end Max Gradel sealed it. Coupe de la Ligue 3rd round Jimmy Durmaz isn´t getting many games in the league at the moment, so I gave him a start in the cup. And he paid back brilliantly. Ok, Lorient are only Ligue 2, but we controlled the game from the first minute and it was lovely to watch. Ligue 1 Table Our run goes on. Unbelievable. Carambau
Season 2018/2019 November 2018 Matchday 12 I don´t know how this match would have ended if they did not receive the red card. Before that it was an even game, Strasbourg had the better chances. But then Carole went crazy, got sent off and we scored shortly after that. Matchday 13 We survived the early scare. In the dressing room at half time I reminded the lads that we got nothing to lose this season and to just go out and play football. Then we scored 2 goals and won the game. Matchday 14 Finally it happened. Well, I didn´t expect us to even get a point in le Parc des Princes. We had no chance at all. Near the end they tired us out and we collected some more yellows. Glad no one was sent off. Ligue 1 Table Despite our first loss we are still securely in 2nd place. Fixtures recap News The board was very eager to offer me a new contract this early. Of course i agreed. Edited May 23, 2019 by Carambau
Carambau
Season 2018/2019 December 2018 Matchday 15 Our form is formidable. Dijon mustard all forces but to no avail. Matchday 16 A great match for the neutral spectator. Lots of goals, lots of chances, lots of misses. And in the end Toulouse wins. Matchday 17 Wow, OL is coming to town. And they are leaving with a defeat. We played to our strenghts, which are pace and stamina. Lyon just couldn´t cope. And our defence was rock solid again, too. A very important win against the team chasing us. Matchday 18 When the red card for Caen came, the match was already decided. We added some more goals after that, though. Coupe de la Ligue 4rd round Cup games are Jimmy Durmaz games and he again shows it. Matchday 19 They bored us to death until the 89th minute. Then we scored. And we thought we had won the game. Then Lille scored. And they thought they had won the game. A draw, nothing to see here. Ligue 1 Table Half time and we are 2nd. We continue to impress. And PSG is still PSG. Fixtures recap Cup Draws Monaco next in the Coupe de la Ligue. At least its at home. An amateur club in the Coupe de France. Carambau
Season 2018/2019 January 2019 Round 9 Against lower league opposition I always give the bench a chance and they saw it through with ease. Matchday 20 The rested first teamers strike back. One early goal, one late goal -> 3 points. Coupe de la Ligue quarter final This is why everyone loves the cup! A pacey, entertaining game with lots of goals. And in the end the underdog beats the favorite. We will play Nimes in the semis, also in January. Matchday 21 Nimes are near the bottom but they play like they are up there with us! In the end it needs a lucky goal from Gradel to seal 3 points for us. Matchday 22 Two early goals and after that we shut up shop and bore the spectators to death with negative football. Well, we got 3 points this is all that counts in the end. Coupe de la Ligue semi final Nimes were even tougher than in the league match, so after extra time came the penalties. We didn´t practice them, but were lucky enough to score more than them. We are in the final! History in the making! The very first Coupe de la Ligue finale for Toulouse ever! Lyon will be tough, though. Ligue 1 Table Another great month sees us sitting 17 points above Lyon. Fixtures recap Cup Draws Ligue 2 outfit Clermont is next in the Coupe de France. Carambau
Season 2018/2019 February 2019 Matchday 23 The self-proclaimed contenders for next season. Still, we manage to snatch a point away. Round 10 Second division outfit Clermont are swept aside as we cruise into round 11. Matchday 24 Reims first scare us, but we hit back immediately and after that wake-up call we play better and win. Matchday 25 Bordeaux came at us like bulls. 3-0 is a bit to high, but 2 games came after the red card. Matchday 26 Gradel hits a brace and once again drives us forward. Carambau
Season 2018/2019 April & May 2019 So here we go. The final. Spoiler It wasn´t to be. Our nemesis Depay scored again and OL stay our bogey team. Overall, a fantastic cup run though. Fixtures recap I decided to recap the last 2 months in brief, for there was nothing much happening anymore in the league and we remained 2nd. In the last games I gave the younger players a chance hence the mostly unsatisfying results in May. Ligue 1 Table A wonderful season sees us finish 2nd only behind the galacticos from PSG. OM came closer a bit, but only a bit. Our reserves were successful too... ...as were our U19s, only missing out on the title by 2 points. End Of Season Stats & Awards This comes as no surprise. Gradel had an outstanding season. This one made me laugh a bit, but it accurately reflects what happened this season. Very happy about that. Thanks a lot. The season stats for our team. News I didn´t know we had that many talents in our youth teams, but appreciate it nevertheless. Cameroon ended up in 4th place, losing 2-3 to Poland in the 3rd place match. Morocco even reached the final, but were beaten by Brazil 4-1. Surprisingly, Cape Verde won the African Nations! Moreira was essential and played every game, Fortes was a sub. Guinea reached the quarters then went out against Ivory Coast. Burkina Faso didn´t even make it out of the group stage. Carambau
Pre-Season 2019/2020 June & July 2019 In & Out Most notable is of course Moubandje, but he didn´t want to extend his contract so we let him go. Vidal was unhappy at being benched all the time and he also was given a free transfer. All came in for free, I didn´t feel the need to spend money. New Signings The talent we snatched in winter already. He will probably be loaned out for a season first. The spanish central defender comes from Pamplona and will fit right in. He can play on both sides, thats why we got him. A likely first-teamer. We needed more creativity in the center and he fits the bill. He comes as a backup for the left side. Players Promoted From The Youth Team He has already proven his ability in the U19 and will be our 3rd GK. Loan Players Returning He was on loan at Spanish 2nd division outfit Cordoba last season where he made 39 appearances. Last season he was on loan at Amiens and made 33 appearances there. Could jump right into the first team probably. Scored 11 times in 35 matches for Montpellier, where he was on loan last season. Carambau
Pre-Season 2019/2020 June & July 2019 First Team Squad Goalkeepers No changes in goal. 1. Reynet, 2. Goicochea, 3. Himeur Defenders Donati provides quality on both sides, while Bodinger does the same in the center. Moreira and Donati - the fight is on! Julien will be captaining the team again with Shoji by his side. New signing Garcia will have to adapt first. Moutou secures we have a solid fullback backup. Amian needs to make the next step in his development if he wants to get more first team football. Midfielders Gradel rules the wings of course. I am glad we were able to extend Durmaz´s contract, he will play a bigger role this season for sure. Diallo should play alongside Bostock in the center and bring in more creativity. Blin is planned as backup but could also jump right in if needed. If you miss new signing Guiagon - he is loaned out to Strasbourg this season. Strikers Delort seems to have developed well while on loan and will start. Jean and Iseka will be the subs. Pre-Season Friendlies We played only 3, but won all of them. Carambau
Season 2019/2020 First Half Of The Season It´s PSG again. Who else. But I don´t really care about the French Charity Shield. Our league form has not been as good as last season, but I already expected that. We had 2 rather bad months in October and November, mostly because our wingers Gradel and Durmaz were injured during that time and the backups couldn´t quite contribute. But we are on a non-losing-streak for 10 games now and I hope it continues into the 2nd half of the season. Delort has proven he has learned a lot while on loan last season, contributing important goals, but still could have scored some more in my opinion. Diallo in center midfield has been a disappointment and I am already looking to sign a better player during the january transfer window. Our lack of goals is worrying me a bit, as most of our wins came just by one goal difference, excluding the slaughtering of Reims. The defence is still solid as a rock though, we conceded only 14 goals in 19 games, Captain Julien and his deputy Shoji doing a good job. New signing Garcia has not stepped up yet. Donati proves a great signing as right back, forcing Moreira out of the first team, which led to him moaning about his situation. I told him he has to be patient, as Donati is in great form at the moment, but he refused to accept it. Luckily, the rest of the team are on my side and so he can´t poison the dressing room. I predict he will leave, either in January or after this season. We lurk in 4th place. I am content and confident that we can remain up there. Dijon are the surprise package. Nice are not so nice this season. We went out of the Coupe De La Ligue pretty early, in the 4th round. Not too sad about this, now we can concentrate on the league. Well, we tried to mess with the big boys and failed. The draw could have been kinder, but at least we gathered some experience and most of the matches were rather close affairs, (for example the first match against Valencia we lost in the 92nd minute) which should give us some confidence. And the money we received is nice as well. We got one win and that is ok for a small club like us. Hope to be back soon next year. And hopefully more competitive. Carambau
Season 2019/2020 Second Half Of The Season Winter Transfers I mentioned before, we need a better central midfielder and we signed Reynoso from Boca Juniors in January for 1.4M. Marco Richter comes from Augsburg, a young talented Striker, who can play on the wings too. We got him for 2.5M. Too many draws to be able to really challenge in the league. Half of our matches ended like that. But hey - at least we also earned a draw against PSG! Our first point against them! But compared to last season it was a little disappointing. We just didn´t score enough goals to keep up with the better clubs. It speaks Volumes when your winger (Gradel) is your second-best goalscorer (12). Delort did score 14 goals, but thats about it, Jean managed to score only 4 and Richter is more a winger than a striker. I will look for a more prolific forward for next season. Our defence wasn´t as solid as last season either, but still good enough to keep me from thinking about buying some defenders. We will see. Our midfield did shine, especially winter signing Reynoso played a decisive part as our roaming playmaker. Our other winter transfer Richter didn´t feature as much and therefore wasn´t able to show what he is able to do. In the end we reach the 4th place, which secures the Europa League group phase for us. No Champions League this time, but I think the EL is more suited to us. We are no big team yet, we are still learning from the better clubs. One day... We made it to the quarter finals in the Coupe De France, but then OM was luckier as we went out after penalties. When Bostock stepped up for the second time, I already saw in his eyes that he was going to miss. Youth Intake We continue our tradition of being a good youth academy. Season Stats & Awards I didn´t expect Reynoso to have such an impact, but nevertheless he had. And of course Gradel. The season stats for our team. Portugal win it but what a score in the final! Carambau
Pre-Season 2020/2021 In & Out Young GK Himeur thought he was bigger than the team and so he was loaded off. Long time club players like Cahuzac, Dossevi or Sanogo retired or didn´t have their contracts renewed. Bodinger had a good season, but we have better options there and already too many. Again many youth players were loaned out to gain experience. Leya Iseka didn´t want to fight for his place and so we sold him. We broke our transfer record. Antony costs us 6.5M, but the other 2 came for free. New Signings As young Himeur left us, we needed backup in the goal and in came experienced Gorgelin. The Italian Box-to-Box-midfielder Bandinelli showed his class last season for Sassuolo and hopefully he can do that for us as well. The big transfer. He comes from Sao Paulo, is only 20 years old and look at his attributes already! Players Promoted From The Youth Team -None- Loan Players Returning A much need backup for the left side in defence. He comes back from loan at Spanish 2nd division club Leonesa. Edited June 17, 2019 by Carambau
Carambau
Pre-Season 2020/2021 First Team Squad Goalkeepers Reynet. He is by far our best keeper. Gorgelin or Goicochea are on one level. Defenders Donati had a great first season for us, Moreira is complaining but he needs to show more. Julien and Shoji the central duo. Garcia seems to struggle on this level, but he gets another season. Amian is always there when it matters. Sylla on the left is an institution, at least Goncalves provides a good backup now. Midfielders Gradel and Durmaz still occupy the wings as there is no real competition from other players to step up yet. Diallo is declining it seems, now that Reynoso is here. Bostock or Bandinelli alongside him, that is the question. Blin impressed last season, so he will most likely start as DM. And we still have Sangaré, who is always good when needed. Richter is a winger now. Strikers New man Antony will start of course. Delort and Mubele will surely get games as well. Pre-Season Friendlies We played 4 and won all of them. Until then he will be subbed after an hour or will come on in the second half
Carambau
Season 2020/2021 First Half Of The Season We have a perfect start with 4 wins in a row. Then we play PSG. And lose of course. In October we only manage to draw, December is even worse with only one win in 5 matches. Our new star signing Antony did not really make an immediate impact, he was only able to score a few goals, Delort did it better so far. I guess we must be patient. 4th place. But it could easily have been 8th place. Same procedure as last season. We go out of the Coupe De La Ligue in the 4th round again. This time against Montpellier. Chelsea were the obvious favorites of course. The other 2 clubs seemed beatable and we did it. Only one defeat and we finished 2nd. We will meet Lazio in the first knockout round. Hootieleece
Chelsea in the Europa League is a bit rough. Lazio is probably beatable though.

We survived Chelsea, yes. Lazio will be a different cup of tea, for I don´t know how good we will be in February...
