No Europe next year, and we're in big trouble. We're over 1m in debt already, we've got an ageing squad with not much talent coming through of late, and our best players are likely going to be sold for peanuts to try and clear some of the debt. It's going to be a bit of a transition period coming up, I think.

Hmmm.. What's mostly draining your finances? Maintaining the youth structures?

Good question :D

Player and staff wages are (expectedly) the main cause, but that loan the board took out to pay off the new stadium isn't helping :(

We're basically back to a net balance of £0 now, but we did have to sell two players to get some funds in:

Gibson was being primed as our future LWB/CM. Disappointing to lose him, but it's more important to get our finances back on track right now.

He was a rotational player.

The best player by far at the club - and the best player we've ever had - has a year left on his contract and it's looking like he'll be leaving when it runs out to move to a bigger club. Here he is:

What an absolutely class CB. Desperately hoping we find a way to keep onto him.

Big fan of this kid for three reasons:

  • We haven't had a 5* PA player in a while.
  • The English/Sammarinese dual nationality players are often pretty decent, and
  • We need a keeper, and I like a keeper with decent size.

Looks promising.

Good mentals on this lad. Another decent prospect.

He looks extremely solid for San Marino and hopefully he does well in Serie A. Shame they got him on a free.

Unfortunately he hasn't been used at all there, and he's moving on a free to Como in Summer (who are bottom of Serie B right now). It's a shame.

Have always followed along on your travails.  Best of luck!

How did Tre Penne become the juggernaut?

Cheers!

The other Sammarinese clubs seem to follow a similar cycle. Bring in players from abroad - usually young players from the Italian leagues who didn't make the grade there but are a lot better than the quality of player in the league here - and use them to power them as a team domestically. The players leave for bigger things in 2 or 3 years, the club runs out of money and they fall back down to earth. Tre Penne were the powerhouse for a few years but they're currently 182k in the red and came 4th this year in the league, so my guess is that they're in for a big slide and we see a new challenge emerge. Virtus, Domagnano and Fiorentino have come on strong lately, despite never having been much cop before, so chances are it may be one of them.
