Before we know it we are back again for this Euro 2012 Special. Everyone is welcome to play along. Of course the only real prize is just bragging rights but thats better than any real prize right? The Rules The first stage of the competition will be predicting who will finish where in the groups and who will play who in the knockout stages. The second stage will be predicting the results and scores of the matches. So if you get any predictions wrong in the first stage you can make up for them by scoring heavily in the second stage. All pretty simple. The Scoring First Stage If you correctly predict that a team will qualify for each stage you will earn yourself 1 point. If you correctly predict a teams position in the group stage you will earn yourself 2 points. If you also correctly predict a teams position in the knockout stage you will earn yourself 2 points. If you also correctly predict the correct teams facing each other at the right match in the knockout stages will earn you 1 bonus point. Second Stage The usual rules of 1 point for a correct result and 3 for a correct result and score. For Example: Predicted Group A Final Standings Greece Czech Republic Poland Russia Actual Group A final Standings Russia Greece (1 point for qualifying prediction) Poland (2 points for correct Position) Czech Republic Predicted Quarter Final Greece vs Netherlands Czech Republic vs Germany England vs Ireland France vs Spain Predicted Semi Final Netherlands vs England Spain vs Germany Actual Quarter Final Russia vs Germany (1 point for predicting Germany would qualify) Greece vs Portugal (1 point for predicting Greece would qualify) Ireland vs England (2 points each here for correctly predicting Ireland and England would be in Quarter Final 3 and the bonus point for the correct fixture) France vs Italy (2 points for predicting France would qualify) Actual Semi Final Germany vs England (2 points for predicting England would be in Semi Final 1) France vs Greece Hopefully that is clear enough for the first stage. Almost had Ukraine through ahead of England as well, but my inner patriot refused. EDIT: Correction of the QF/SF draws mean a French win now looks less likely, but I'm gonna go ahead and say they beat both the favourites anyway... Balthazars Posted June 5, 2012 Share Posted June 5, 2012 Here we go: Group A - fairly even group in my opinion, not seen much of the Czech's recently but I don't think they're doing great. 1. Russia 2. Poland 3. Czech Republic 4. Greece Group B - tough group indeed. Portugal are down on form but obviously still have star power. Denmark are actually quite decent but two very strong teams in Germany and Netherlands should pull through. I think Germany look very strong at the moment, so going to be backing them. 1. Germany 2. Netherlands 3. Denmark 4. Portugal Group C - yes, I am tipping Italy to get knocked out. They tend to go through cycles and I think they're in a bit of a down cycle at the moment. Ireland to pull the upset in this group. Croatia were hot 4-6 years ago but are off the boil now. 1. Spain 2. Republic of Ireland 3. Italy 4. Croatia Group D - England to make it out, just. Very unlikely to see France implode like they did at the World Cup. Roy's defensive style does play to England's strengths so they should scrap through against relatively mediocre opposition. 1. France 2. England 3. Sweden 4. Ukraine Quarter Finals - assuming the groups pan out as expected, there are clear favorites when we get to the knock-outs. QF1: Russia v Netherlands --> Netherlands QF2: Spain v England --> Spain QF3: Germany v Poland --> Germany QF4: France v Republic of Ireland --> France Semi Finals - now it gets hard, some real big clashes here. Really, could go any way. More heart then head stuff here.
