It's a problem shared by turn based strategy games, which FM isn't but has the same hallmarks as: an unlimited amount of time to make decisions, a need to add complexity to the game in every iteration which the AI cannot necessarily keep up with, and large communities who can deconstruct the game at length. FM has an additional problem of trying to be an immersive simulation, which does not always correlate with level of difficulty. I think a hard mode would be somewhat popular but that often means handicapping the player and buffing the AI, which players don't really like. Playing Civ 6 on diety with all the AIs bonuses feels totally different to playing on say King, and players are split on whether that's a good thing. I don't think we'll really see anything monumental with difficulty until machine learning as a tool is cheap enough to be implemented into a £40 game. That said, if the made a mode where you had less money, more injuries, is harder to keep team morale and cohesion, then i would definitely give that a go.

Homeground advantage? Is not it too much in fm?
Dotsworthy replied to Pafnus's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
I did look at the whole league though, half the league won at least half (or just above) their home games, as opposed to just two teams winning half their away games. A brief look at the premier League for the last ten years, and most seasons the top 8 will win at least 10/19 at home, and between 2-4 will win away. The only exceptions are 13/14 for some reason and 20/21, which was the COVID season where there was no fans. -
Homeground advantage? Is not it too much in fm?

In the premier League the team with the best away record last season (Arsenal) won 12/19 games, losing 4 times, the only other team to win at least 10 away games was Man City The best home record is Man City with 17/19 and 1 loss. 9 teams managed to win at least 10/19. I know this is anecdotal but I would believe this would be pretty consistent in English football for the last 10-15 years, so 8-9% doesn't feel too much at all. -
Should the star system be revamped for FM25?
Dotsworthy replied to jcafcwbb's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
A player who is not natural in a given position will perform worse though, so it should be taken into account. While the player might have the perfect attributes they take a pretty significant hit to their decision making if they cannot play in that position. The star ratings for positions seem much better this iteration. Prior to FM24 every full back in the game could only get to 2 star rating for IWB role. I think the star rating tries to replicate the fluctuating nature of footballing talent which I quite like. In real life players can play like elite level premier league talent for two years but then regress back to their actual level, or be star players at the start of your save only to become overshadowed by better talent as your go on. It could do with a bit of clarity for the new player. -
FM24 Newgens check after 25 seasons

Ah fair enough. Are you looking at both critical and desirable attributes for each position then? -
FM24 Newgens check after 25 seasons
Dotsworthy replied to Novem9's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
I think that's exactly what he's looking at. As the game progresses the spread of attributes for players is a lot more volatile than what the researchers do for real life players and you get fewer players who are good at everything, so it's not unsurprising that there are less players appearing in some of the filters. That said I don't know enough about how role filters work as I don't use them. -

I'm referring to game time as opposed to number of players loaded. If a loaded league has a lower level of detail or is view only, they will use fewer subs in games and have lower transfer activity. I'm not sure how inactive leagues simulate game time though. As you can see every PA band has more players. That's why I am suggesting comparing CA instead. You gave examples of players who have failed to meet their CA, but if there are plenty of players in the game who are meeting their CA, then it's less of an issue. I don't know anything about the positional distribution so I'm not commenting on it. But we have issues with low levels of newgen fullback crossing and a higher number of shorter players so it wouldn't surprise me. -

What detail level are you using for your game setup. Leagues with lower level of detail/view only can cause issues with loans and use of subs. One thing to consider is the number of high pa players will inflate as the game goes on so it's not optimal for every player to make it. So you are better off looking at the ratio of high CA players compared to the start of the game to see whether the game is balanced. high PA players can also roll trash personalities which mean they don't grow very well, or don't have the ambition to find more football. Not to say there is a problem, there is definitely issues at big clubs. I noticed players on loan from prem clubs getting national team callups for England before their full club debut. You are definitely right that these players are too passive to leave big clubs to get football. -
Transfer Market too easy with premiums
Dotsworthy replied to German_Rabbit's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
I think the actual solution to this would be improving the transfer logic of the AI so that add ons are relative to the price tag so you can't just offer 50mil add on for games played (i.e. if you offered 30mil up front the AI would only accept 10-15% of that amount for an add-on, and want close to the players value in guaranteed payment). -
Improving players' aggression and bravery

I've noticed this also. It definitely seems like height is not working properly for newgens. -
Fine players and finance

It was still pretty powerful. I think it should be moved to criticising poor performances but nerfed further. -

Improving players' aggression and bravery
Dotsworthy replied to Ein's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
A couple of YouTubers (such as EBFM) have done tests on training for FM23 which show aggression doesn't improve. Im sure someone here or at FM arena did their own tests but can't remember where that would be. Dont't know if any verifiable tests have been done for 24 yet. I suspect for bravery that it might be that aerial is the only way and as such gets only a small amount of attention regardless. -
Improving players' aggression and bravery

Bravery can go up but I've always found it slow to improve. Aggression doesn't improve. One of the training sessions states that it improves aggression, but this is incorrect. -
Here's why Gegenpress is OP
Dotsworthy replied to stopazricky's topic in Football Manager General Discussion
Does this not, by extension, make it overpowered? Leaving EBFM aside, the prevailing opinion on here is that you can pretty much plug gegenpress in, without making any changes to the players you have, and have few issues. In real life there are countless successful teams but also teams that have fallen apart because their pressing doesn't work (Jesse Marsh's Leeds and Bournmouths early form this season). -

He changes pre game editor data, but it can be quite impactful. You could also argue too many players in the game have high levels of stamina. Given the discussion on here on gegenpress tactics, I wonder if players are just too good at deciding to play it safe and ignore their tactical instructions. It's very rare to actually see teams overpressing and getting caught. I'm not even sure nerfing stamina would work and giving players less autonomy would be the solution.
