  1. I do have sympathy for SI when people complain about X player being misused by the AI, it's definitely a challenge for them to solve but real life does contain countless examples of weird behaviour. I remember Portsmouth buying David Nugent then trying to sell him in the same transfer window.
  2. International selection is definitely odd this year. I've seen England select 2 or 3 players on the back of a loan in the championship, albeit their parent clubs are Chelsea/Man City. Under the hood the CA of these players is good enough to make the squad but from an immersion standpoint it is odd. I am definitely seeing a disconnect between how clubs play their young players and the national teams. In my save to 2038 Man City had a generational striker languish as a impact sub until he was 28, while being England's top striker, then going on a tear for Man City once Haaland left until he was 35. Youth development is significantly better than 23 but has some new quirks this year for sure.
  3. I think you would have to wait till the end of the welcoming period. Not sure how long it takes. It has been recognised as a bug so hopefully a fix will make it into the next couple of patches
  4. Is it a new signing? The club welcome feature is bugged and is causing players to match the welcome players personality, rather than the usual effect.
  5. For what it's worth, I think FM24 is actually a lot better then FM23 at developing players. In the game I've simmed to 2043, the game has been pretty consistent with youngsters developing and 5/10/15 years into the game the number of young players with 140/160 CA is much more balanced. At international level, the number of younger players with international caps is also a lot lot better, even at the big nations. So I don't think reputation is the immersion killer it was in FM23.
  6. Wanted to do an update on this. Decided to do a quick check of newgens with a height of between 1.72 & 1.73. Out of 3349 newgens in the game at this point, there are 1430 players who do not have a jumping reach that sits between 5 & 9:
  7. Using a save with 65000 players in a pretty standard setup, I am finding that the game produces a large number of players with really low jumping reach. In 2038 there are 16,491 players with a jumping reach lower than 5 out of 67760. At the start of the game there are 7800 players with under 5 jumping reach out of 63475 This for example is the top 40ish players in the game in 2038, removing real players. I think the culprit might be some players not being assigned the right height range, if this post is to be correct: Notable players here: Thomas Blank - 177cm & 3 jumping reach (range should be 7 - 11) Akira Kurimoto - 172 cm & 2 jumping reach (range should be 5 - 9) Edin Britton - 178cm & 4 jumping reach (range should be 7 - 11) Franco Rodriguez - 177cm & 3 jumping reach (range should be 7-11) I'll attach the save file from 2038 but have save files from other years also if needed.
  8. The only updates/fixes that aren't applied to existing save games are usually competition updates and data changes. Which is why you cannot load the J-League I can't imagine the fix to the subs issue being locked to a new save game.
  9. I will look at all of the promising youngsters in the youth ranks and assign their individual training, rather than leave that to the Manager, as I feel they tend to lump players into weaker roles that only rely on a couple of strong attributes (no nonsense centre back or pressing forward). I will often pick one or two that are prime candidates for mentoring and add them to the first team training units so they can be mentoring while playing youth matches. For training I let the managers do it and promote youth up to reserves whenever the HOYD recommends. It never seems to need much intervention from me on this part. From 18 I loan out everyone I can. The main thing is the level of football they are getting. I tend to prefer regular starter at a league with a reputation in line with their ability, sometimes I will allow squad player, but I find if the league is view only with low game detail it seems to reduce subs and you can get burnt on game time. I also check that the managers formation is consistent with the role they want the player to play, as I've had issues with that before.
  10. There are a number of factors that effect player development, but sometimes players just stall. In my current save Angelo showed consistent growth up to the age of 21, and between 21 & 22 just didn't improve at all despite having the same game time and having a good season. Yet the next season he had a big jump in ability, despite demanding a transfer, being in a bad mood for most of the year, and not playing particularly well.
  11. Ah I didn't know that! From previous threads on here I was under the impression that as far as the match engine was concerned it took into account just jumping reach now. So a 6"4 player with 15 Jumping reach would be more likely to lose out to a 6"5 player with 15 Jumping reach?
  12. This is a feature of the WTS skin and isn't normally enabled in Vanilla FM. Try shift + enter and see if it moves forward.
  13. Height and Jumping were originally interconnected, but to make it simpler they changed it to jumping reach. Height dictates a newgens initial jumping reach and the min/max it can get to.
  14. Yeah I think I found one in my test save. Man City had a 193 PA striker who was stuck at about 155/160 at 25. Thinking he wouldn't improve more than 5-10 ca I loaded up 5 years later to find he hit 185. I feel that sort of improvement wasn't possible in FM23. What's funny is he spend his entire career as a fringe player until 28, when they sold Haaland and made him their primary striker and he went on an absolute tear until he was 35.
  15. Yeah I don't mind players having weaknesses, I feel the real life players tend to be a bit too good at everything at the start of the game. I just think if a player is a natural CB they would presumably be a baseline height for a player to make it at a professional level. It feels like this guy would quite quickly be moved to full-back or midfield at youth level.
  16. Does the player have a ban in real life. Drugs/Betting won't be given as reasons for a ban in the game.
  17. Surely he would not come through the youth ranks as a natural CB, but as a DM/WB. That is my point.
  18. Newgens and player development seems better this year, with the occasional oddities. One suggestion for newgens: We could do with some minimum required attributes for certain positions. This is the worlds best natural CB in the game with 190CA, and 2 Jumping Reach
  19. The limit of 125000 does not take into account your specific setup. The only problem that will arise is the game could get slower as you get further into the game/save file is larger. But the definition of slow is relative to whatever you think that is. I play with about 135000 on a dell XPS and it's okay. It's also dependent on leagues loaded and match detail settings. Check the benchmark threads and see what compares.
  20. Unambitious personalities are not the best for development, it means the player has very low ambition, and their professionalism is not going to be particularly high either. So that might conflict with their development. Originally players in FM would grow until 27-29 with 15-24 being their best years. My assumption is that late developers have a much better rate of development than normal between 25-29 but until we have the editor/IGE it's hard to quantify yet.
  21. SI haven't told us what constitutes a late developer and there has been no testing from the FM community yet so it's hard to say at this point. He has seen some growth in a couple of attributes, what does his progress chart look like? I'd be interested to see his attribute growth between 26-30.
  22. I've noticed this for a couple of FMs. I think that real life players tend to be at least competent at everything and can play a variety of roles. Newgens seem much more niche and tend to be a really great Mezzala or a really great DLP. Personally I prefer it and think it is more realistic. I also see more newgens with really low jumping reach. Real life players rarely seem to go below an 8. I chalk it down to the challenges to researching players and game balance.
  23. One thing I've encountered is determination is dropping on a few different players. My new player has dropped by 2 in just 3 months. His mentor has 16 and the squad is generally very determined. No comment from assistant on this, must surely be a bug?
