  1. Hard to say without seeing your tactic. However, I would use more width and depth to stop my attack becomeing too compressed. That will help your team to open up space between the lines both vertically and horizontal. If you play against a back three, you will gain advantage by pinning down both outter defenders by inverted wing players and have your central player drop deep. generally make sure there are staggered runs from different areas of the pitch and have all channels utilized by your team. Those are key to break down stubborn defenses
  2. It's a myth that certain styles only work if your team is world class or super bad, or whatever. You always have to see it in relation to the league you play in and the other teams. If you compare it with real life and look at the 2nd or 3rd divison, there will also be teams which press high, teams which dominate the match with possession. Of course, you may not achieve the level of City or Liverpool as they have better players.
  3. Usually an active approach where your team is trying to dominante and create something is more successful. This should be your first choice. Sometimes however, it can be beneficial to switch to a more passive approach and soak up pressure and try to create something on the break. This is especially useful if you feel like you can’t dominate the other team or if the other team is overly aggressive and regularity overcommits on their attacking moves. Your first choice should be Gegenpress / TikiTaka (or some adjusted versions) and Route One should be your situational
  4. IWB‘s will move wide if noone else keeping the width. Playing with Wingers will most likely solve your problem.
  5. There is no need to also have your striker to move into channels if your wide players already do. Someone needs to provide a threat in central areas. Make one of your wide players a Winger, keep your AF and have a deep runner that’s not moving into channels to penetrate central areas. Or make one of your wide players a winger, pick a striker that’s penetrating central areas and have a deep runner, that’s moving into channels to penetrate Or keep both wide players inverted and have a striker that’s penetrating central areas. If you want to, also have a deep runner to overload central areas
  6. One of the reasons why teams often combine a pressing approach with a high block is, that they may need time to reorganize if their pressing traps dont work. So pressing in a low block may work, but does come at a way higher risk than it would in a high block. Pressing involves multiple players and may require them to give up their position which will open up exploitable space behind them. Usually you dont want to see that if the opposition already is close to your goal. Thats why a low block often is combined with a greater emphasis on protecting space (less pressing) to cut off passing lanes and stay in a compact shape. What you can do to not become too passive is to actually approach the opposition more physically by getting stuck in. Yes, there is always a risk to receive a free kick, but that may be handable if you really want to distrub the opposition.
  7. Depends on how much risk you are willing to take and how capable your players are. But yes, if you really want to win back the ball no matter what, I would go high press + tight marking + get stuck in
  8. High Press, it helps your players to get engaged more often with the opposition
  9. I would use an AM(a) as your DLF is moving into channels (as your Wingers do). Your Team will benefit from someone staying in the central area.
  10. Playing through the middle is the fastest way to a goal, so i think playing thorugh the middle perfectly fits a counter attacking system. Playing through the middle doesnt mean you cant utilize your wide players.
  11. No, you can still see the tempo change to some extend by shortening your passing directness. However it has no impact on your treats width.
  12. As you said, right before Krauß makes the pass, Elvedi and Itakura step up as if they wanted to put terodde offside. I usually would instruct the defensive line to drop-off at this point. Maybe try it once again for a few matches to allow your defenders to get familiar with that instruction. But as I said earlier, this type of goal is produced quite often by the ME, so its not just down to instructions.
  13. It’s always useful to post your entire setup, including your tactic and some data to back it up, especially if you have such a specific problem. Fitst of all, FM23 ME does favor balls over the top to some extend, so you properbly can’t deny all of them. Did you make sure to use different settings for a few matches, to give your team a chance to settle on the new instructions? Do you provide enough defensive pressure against the ball? It’s important to actually challange the ball carrier to sone extend so he can’t take the time to make the pass
  14. I would say you need to play more vertically. pressing teams move up the pitch and open up space behind their defensive line and especially behind the first and second defender, as they are trying to close you down. If you manage to play through the lines, your players will have a good chance to break the press and turn it to your advantage. Playing out from the back is very difficult against a high press unless you outclass the opposition, but they won’t press you high then anyways.
  15. Mentality in a nutshell High Mentality = Progressive build-up and aggressive defending. Low Mentality = Slow build-up and protecting space However, you can adjust either way to your likings by distributing duties in a certain way and altering the team instructions
  16. No it should be fine, since a 442 isn’t particular made for aggressive fullbacks anyway.
  17. Lines and Diamonds. Eventhough it was written in 2015 or so, it is still up to date, especially if your looking for footballing principles and approaches. It was way ahead of FM in its state back then and is the most complete guide I’ve ever seen for FM on the internet. If you are specifically looking for current mechanics of the ME or the tactics creator of FM23 it might be outdated here and there, but it’s still worth reading.
  18. I totally understand what you are saying. When I started playing FM years ago, I was overwhelmed pretty much by everything you could change tactically. The most important thing to understand is that there is no right or wrong, there is always an alternative. Like in real life. The Guides you read are always only a guideline or a certain view of a particular person. They are not set rules which can’t vary. It’s correct if you are looking for a balanced approach to properbly choose 3 defend, 3 attack and 4 support duties. But that’s not the best approach, it’s just what it says, a balanced approach. By shifting around some of the duties, you can achieve a different approach which might even work better for your team or against a certain opponent. I would highly recommend to simply try out things to see how they affect your game. Another way to better understand the game is by posting your tactics and letting the people know what’s your idea behind the decisions you made. They will help you to understand why things might not work as intended.
  19. Wingers are still very effective. Just make sure other players are taking over the channels then.
  20. Personally I think Flut Skin is the best, especially if you use a lot of custom made graphics.
  21. That’s a known issue in the ME since the last update. I really hope they can fix it with the next patch. You can’t really fix the problem, you can just get over it :-/
  22. I think your tactic is quite sterile and predictable. I don’t wanna say it’s bad (it’s quite successful actually), but it could be a reason for the low amount of chances. There is only one direct route to the goal, through the middle. I would suggest to have one other player of your top 5 to either attack the channels or wide areas. There is no one to create width on the left flank. Maybe try using a winger or a (Complete) Wing Back to stretch the play vertically. One of the IF‘s could be a more creative role, like an IW or Winger to mix things up in your attacking patterns. I don’t really understand what you are trying to achieve by „Being more disciplined“. Especially when building up quite slowly from the back with short passes, the opposition will be fully transitioned when you approach the final third. Playing without Flair and moveing predictable might be relative easy to defend.
  23. Your Team is not familiar with that kind of tactic. They will carry out the desired instructions insufficiently. Also with 4 attack duties, it’s not really defensive. Especially if you don’t force them to regroup.
