Monday, June 19, 2006

'MANCHESTER United could be about to lose another young defender following Jonathan Spector's departure to West Ham.

The young American moved to Upton Park for £500,000 earlier this week.

Now, reports suggest Gerard Pique could be about to join West Brom on loan.

The 19-year-old Spanish-born centre-half is seen by manager, Bryan Robson, as the type of player he needs to get the Baggies back into the Premiership.

And after Kieran Richardson's successful loan spell at the Hawthorns, Sir Alex Ferguson probably wouldn't stand in the way of Pique's departure.

Despite coming to Old Trafford with glowing credentials, the former Barcelona starlet has yet to establish himself as a first team regular and looks a long way from doing so.' </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Thoughts?

Glad it's a championship side rather than Prem. I think especially for a central defender, the more physical nature of the game would be a good learning experience. It does make me wonder if it would mean that Silvestre is staying, to ensure we have enough cover. Although of course there is also Bardsley and Evans to take into account.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer has appointed three more members of his family to the board at Old Trafford.

Sons Kevin, 44, Edward, 36, and daughter Darcie, 37, will join the club as non-executive directors.

"The move reflects common practice - all Glazer family members are involved in all the family's business interests," said a United spokesman.

The trio join Glazer's sons, Joel, Ave and Bryan, who have been on the board since the takeover in 2005.

The United owner, 78, is recovering from the two strokes he suffered in April that left him with slurred speech and partial disability. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona are all mulling over a move for Juventus stopper Lilian Thuram, according to reports from the continent.

Thuram is currently on World Cup duty with France but still rumours persist about his future at the beleaguered Serie A champions.

The 34-year-old could be available on a free transfer should Juve face sanctions for alleged match-fixing, with the Bianconeri even facing up to the prospect of being relegated to Serie B.

And the possibility of snapping up such an experienced defender for a minimal outlay could interest all three European giants.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger may be keen on a move, particularly if he decides to part company with Sol Campbell, who has recently been linked with a move to Portsmouth.

Eager for an old head to partner Kolo Toure and Philippe Senderos in defence, Thuram could represent an attractive proposition for Wenger.

Meanwhile, reports in Italy suggest United would like to make a double raid on Juve for both Thuram and Fabio Cannavaro.

Cannavaro, who made his 95th appearance for Italy in the Azzurri's 1-1 draw with USA on Saturday, is another whose future has been the subject of speculation following the upheaval in Turin. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Why!?
