Hi, I too have taken the Bolton Wanderers job and are top of league 2 with an 18 point lead over second place after 31 games. No major signings as there's no wages available due to no one wanting to buy my unwanted players...hope some money comes with promotion!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but finances won't get any better after promotion. Shift the expensive older players on (I'm looking at you, Matt Gilks and Eoin Doyle). There are some quality youngsters in your youth setup. Season 2, Hurford-Lockett, Ricky Crabb and Ryan Colvin are all featuring in my first team, and Dean Campbell is in the squad and will get minutes off the bench. Hurford-Lockett has been fantastic.

An unbeaten December

1411685623_Dec2021.PNG.ff18eeb1b0e4d078799a436039d03d4e.PNG

but we dominated the Wigan game, yet somehow needed a late goal just to get a point

567628920_Wigana2021.PNG.75806233382ba8b82557758dabcc1d0b.PNG

Fleetwood played over 20 minutes with 10 men, but we failed to make it count, or only goal coming from the penalty that led to the red card. 2 more costly points dropped

698150349_Fleeth2021.PNG.20ba23f5462c048ba3f46e5fc2b66927.PNG

We absolutely battered Burton, up until they scored, but again had to settle for a point

and the League Table looks like this. If we'd taken the extra 6 points from those 3 games, we'd be 8th, and just 5 points off the playoffs. As it is, that gap is 11 points, and it's the gap to the relegation zone that's a more pressing concern.

Loads more transfer activity than I expected in January

1846555653_TransfersJan2022.PNG.3905b4f66426ad1cc243f928cb544599.PNG

as we brought Zach Clough back to the club

Clough.PNG.83f59de039709cd4de4571e73ded0546.PNG

and signed Carlton Morris to strengthen our striker options

Youngster Raymond comes in in midfield

and Trueman is brought in as first choice keeper

10 points out of 12 normally represents a good month

but we needed maximum points to cling to a slim chance of automatic promotion. As a consolation, Ipswich did win the game after we beat them, meaning we'd have missed out anyway. All that remains in the final match of the league is to find out who we will play in the playoffs

Ahead of the playoff final, with my contract up in the summer, Bolton have offered me a new deal. I've turned it down for now, as if we go up, I'll be looking to move on. If we don't, I'll likely sign a new deal over the summer. Given that we've massively exceeded board demands, I'm certain they'll offer another contract if I want one

Here is the end of season review

We kick things off with signings. The one not shown is Zach Clough, who hasn't had the impact I'd hoped for

Just look at that run in. To get to the playoffs after the start we had was unbelievable

These were the games of the season

819891002_Review22.4.PNG.9c53436d42d70b4192cff672e3fdf690.PNG

and the board are pleased with the improvement in our still-dire finances

This was our Team of the Season, although of course Connal Trueman is now first choice keeper, and Crellin probably won't be here next season

One of our own was League 1 Player of the Year

and the press seem happy with the way things have gone

It was a no from Villa as well. I keep getting asked in interviews about poor management of club finances, yet I'm under wage budget, and have been since early last season. The club was almost bankrupt when I arrived. What more am I supposed to do?

We made one signing ahead of the new season (although on the eve of our first league game, I'm trying to bring in a striker on loan). A further 7 players have moved on, either permanently or on loan

Mastny should be a good goalkeeper in the Championship

Mastny.PNG.abf66927a369b269387fc36efd651a9e.PNG

and although there is some decent talent in the squad, we have no depth up front
